I time travelled here from 100 years in the future, only to tell you that all heavy metal is now being named classical music. Dimebag Darrell and Cliff Burton's holograms are a thing by the way.
Wow' nice version here I had never heard the full Drum or Drum+Bass intro. Orion = Unbelievable musical composition I agree it really sounds like Cliff Burton's musical footprint, including the Bass solo Waltz which is round 3'45'' here. Magic, really feels like travelling in the Orion Constellation, feeling both the beauty and the violence, like the Orion from the greek mythology. Brilliant. Anesthesia, Ktuluh, Orion and later to Live is to die, without Cliff, but dedicated to Cliff : unforgettable pieces. So many thanks to you Klighning5
I consider this song to be a significant achievement, one of the best examples of composition and musicianship to have come out of the 80s. It is a great representation of a genre and an era and I hope that in 300 years time it will be regarded with the same reverence as the great classical music works are today.
26 years have passed. I still miss you, even though I was born in '95, my greatest wish would have been to bring you back to life. I started playing bass because of you, your work has helped me progress. I've now been a bassist for 2 years now, but I won't start struggling with Orion, that's my holy song, made by you, My God. R.I.P Cliff :(
There are but a few instrumental songs that I can listen to over and over again for 20+ years and never get tired of. This is at the top. Cliff you were amazing!
I'm looking for an extended intro version. The bass/drum intro is one of the best parts and way too short; extend that intro to about two minutes, then keep the rest of the song the same, that would be awesome.
i fell the same of you my frien, i'm from Chile, and i born in 94, but the first time i hear Cliff ' s solo, i dont have words to expres, i'm play the bass thanks to the music of Cliff, he is my hero and my icon.
Love me some Cliff!! Saw Metallica open for Ozzy in Louisville, Ky July 25, 1986, just 2 months before the crash.. Changed my life... RIP Cliff, you are so missed.
i was just playing the second solo on guitar while listening to this, and it genuinly brought a tear to my eye and shivers down my spine, RIP Cliff Burton
+Angel Tafolla Doblado cliff played the bass like a regular guitar, he was known for his bass soloing( check anesthesia pulling teeth). So yes, they're comparable. Kirk kinda sucks, admit it.
and can I assume that you have not actual got any guitar skills what so ever so who are you to comment on a fantastic guitar player when you cant even play !!!!!!!!!!!
You Said tell me again how you can compare the two lol.LOL!!!!!! Finger blasting a bass like he did is insane, give him Kirks guitar and it would sound like shit. FFS think lol
Cliff Burton WAS and IS Metallica! What an inspiration he was to me in the early 90's when I first picked up the bass. I do a mean Anaesthesia solo to the crowd when my band finish the set they go mental!! God bless all.
Great work you made in this extended (and finished) version man!!! Now I only listen this Orion track. Only an observation, if you don't mind: I think it will be better if the bass-line were only a little lower in some parts. Thanks & greetings ;-)
Grew up with Metallica, had all of their records and tapes, once I heard Orion I knew if I ever had a son this would be his name. Many years later I have a 6 year old son...Orion Akira!!
You know, Cliff was very influenced by classical music, and I think that´s coming through quite obviously here. It´s so magical, nostalgical, musical and just fuckin genius. It simply don´t get much better. A true, pure masterpiece. We are so lucky it was made.
Yeah, he was unique and what he did for the bass will stand forever. He is my inspiration, there is much more to bass than just being a follow up instrument!
I think even Beethoven would be proud of hearing that even metal values the teachings of classical music, this is just that classic music metalized, sublime. one of the Best Metallica Songs, alongside, To Live Is to Die, the Call of Ktulu, unvaluable instrumentals.
Born in 1978 I was. 1988 Me listening to Metallica I was. My word did I love it. Justice for all was the first cassette I ever bought. Although I'm only 34 I was listening to Metallica when I was 8! Do your maths and calculate when I bought my first CD................!
WOW you nailed it man, thank you for that brilliant commentary, no im not being a smart ass or sarcastic, I am a child of the 80s and I could not have put it any better!
I hear this song every September 27 to remind Cliff Burton and what Metallica might have been if he were still alive. Further it is also my birthday and I love this song!
the crosses in the middle have no tops after the first one in the picture. cliffs bass lead at 6:23 is the most beautiful sound ever created.primarily following hammets lead. truly a master R.I.P.
When I close my eyes at 3:47 I can see Cliff....he's sitting on a cloud & he's playing to them...all of them! Rhodes, Moon, Hendrix, 'Dimebag' Abbott & Morrison....& they're all so fucking happy...Makes me smile like a motherfucker...
I think this is the best instrumental they ever created!
The best since the time of the best classical composers.
This will be considered classical music in about 100 years
isn't it already ?
I time travelled here from 100 years in the future, only to tell you that all heavy metal is now being named classical music. Dimebag Darrell and Cliff Burton's holograms are a thing by the way.
@@getwooked3970 oh fuck yeah!
Make sure Lemmy Kilmster is a hologram too!

Oh, so Jimi Hendrix and Freddie Mercury was nothing to people in the future?
Speak for me! It is already a classic!
Wow' nice version here
I had never heard the full Drum or Drum+Bass intro.

Me too. Every time I’ve ever played this song since 1986, I’ve also wondered, every time.
That must be the first and only annotation I have ever really, truly appreciated on the entirety of RUclips.

if only Metallica was as good today as it was then! well, minus death magnetic, that has its moments!
absolutely I couldn't agree with you more
I can't start my day without listening to Orion. RIP Cliff.
Cliff played better solos than Hammett :p
Cliff was bass player, Kirk is guitar player, you cannot compare them

26 years have passed, but the memory remains. RIP legend!!
Simply the best instrumental song I've ever heard, inspirational, totally different!

One of the best metal songs on one of the best metal albums of all time.
5:00 I LOVE THIS PART OF THE SONG .... SOMEHOW IT REMINDS ME OF A LULLABY
Just read the Metal Hammer for November. Some great heartbreaking stories about Cliff Burton in there. Rest in Peace, we all miss you!
If I could choose between world peace, curing cancer or bringing Cliff back to life, I'd choose world peace.
I never really realized how much the bass drives this instrumental until I heard this version
Great work you made in this extended (and finished) version man!!! Now I only listen this Orion track.

Orion is a true masterpiece of biblical proportions. This song takes you on a journey, much like the entire Puppets album.
