      That is what disgusts me about AJFA, in a tribute song to Cliff they cut out the bass, I understand people make mistakes but it should either be audible or nonexistent, at least on this song, I have nothing against the whole AJFA album by just this song. The nonexistent would also be powerful because as a tribute to cliff it could be saying," no one can replace him" instead this

    "Cliff Burton received co-writing credit on "To Live Is to Die" as the bass line was a medley of unused recordings Burton had performed prior to his death. Because the original recordings are not used on the track, the composition is credited as written by Burton and played by Newsted. The spoken word at the end of the song ("When a man lies, he murders some part of the world. These are the pale deaths which men miscall their lives.") was written by German poet Paul Gerhardt, but was erroneously attributed to Burton in the liner notes. The second half of the speech ("All this I cannot bear to witness any longer. Cannot the kingdom of salvation take me home?") was written by Burton." (Wikipedia)

    It's sad the very tribute to Cliff didn't even have audible bass.. His own instrument wasn't even acknowledged in the song.

    It's ironic to me that the two best Metallica albums without Cliff Burton, ...AND JUSTICE FOR ALL and DEATH MAGNETIC, both have mixing issues. Everyone knows the "There's no bass on ...AND JUSTICE FOR ALL! " thing and DEATH MAGNETIC has a distorted quality in parts, mainly during some of the snare drum hits. The funniest thing, at least to me, is that not only do I but pretty much everyone else let's it slide because those albums kick ass.

    • @mkfanforever58
      @mkfanforever58 9 лет назад +3

      I would say you could barely hear bass in Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets. They're not as bad in terms of mixing issues as AJFA is though. I think Kill Em All has almost perfect mixing when it comes to mixing in bass. And Cliffs tone was pretty overdriven on RTL and MOP is that what you mean by distorted?

    • @sirhuebertcumberdale5959
      @sirhuebertcumberdale5959 9 лет назад +1

      Now that I think of it I never know the bass line for mop songs... I like some of the cool arts in ride the lightning, like cliffs part in the call of ktulu. It's a good use of that style to me

    • @ElectronHVChannel
      @ElectronHVChannel 8 лет назад

      You can hear the bass on AJFA.

    • @DenSvartaStjarnan
      @DenSvartaStjarnan 7 лет назад

      They wanted Death Magnetic to be as loud as possible, so they used compressors excessively, until there were no dynamics left. Still, they raised the volume more than the audio could handle and thus the sound is digitally distorted at some parts. It's such a rookie mistake I'm really surprised it was made by expert sound engineers.
      Oh, and Death Magnetic is mostly forgettable. Especially the instrumental...

    Your tone is better than Newstead. As much as I like his tight playing, I find the added original bass tracks on the songs weird, like they dont belong. Your track makes it sound fuller. Great Job!

      A New Horizon There's a video called Cliff's Last Song. Apparently he played it himself. The part that sounds like a guitar (I'm not sure if its a guitar or a bass with a pitchshifter) in that video is used in this song. Maybe that's why he gets writing creds?
