I love Beau de Jour so much 😍
I picked up BdJ PB last summer. It's a stunner. I've only sampled the Signature reissue a couple of times, so I can't really comment on the differences, but I am blown away by the quality and depth of the PB edition. The closest substitute for me, though, is Zino by Davidoff, which I would actually wear in preference to BdJ in colder winter weather. Zino errs on the darker side, with that deep rose/patchouli/rosewood combo. In a different direction, substituting brighter citrus notes for the lavender, AdP Colonia Essenza also comes to mind for me (like Zino, a Michel Almairac creation).
Good stuff! I'd love to see a top list of more modern day barbershop fragrances. Something that maybe more suited for people in their mid-late 20's
Great 📹 and I enjoyed it and I'm going to try them because they are my favorite types of fragrances and have a blessed day
really surprised you didn't mention Zino by Davidoff as they smell very similar.
I'd assume because it's not available on fragrancesamplesuk. (sponsor of the video)
They're 90% similar after the dry down, and Zino goes for around $20.
Definiteley not@@CagedPaps
Great review! I do really enjoy this genre. I have Beau De Jour and really enjoy it. Also really enjoy Gravitas.
I prefer at the barbers but unfortunately it only comes in edt very strong opening but fades rather quickly it would be amazing in edp
Thanks for the video. I'm a fan of fougere fragrances. 😀
You've mentioned Gravitas Pour Homme once or twice before in previous videos, you seem to like that fragrance.
I think it's his line.
@@joallavina I know. It was just a silly joke.
Ha!
I’m a fan of bdj and the fougere genre as a whole I’d probably like all these 👍👍
does acqua di parma colonia give off the same gentlemanly barbershop vibe?
Beau de Jour sits in my #1 spot in my "barbershop" Fougere collection. Ahead of Penhaligon Sartorial, TF Fougere D'Argent and Platine, MDCI Invasion Barbare, YSL Rive Gauche Pour Homme, MMM At the Barbers, and all the rest. I do think it is "fancy". Whereas most of the others seem to be an amalgamation of smells that an actual barber would use, Beau de Jour is a "perfumy" abstraction of the genre, sort of an Ode to the Vintage classic barbershop Fougere. So to me it does break new ground. It's simply the most beautiful. And the performance is great to me.
Have you tried zaharoff pour homme?
@@Throesofdefeat Zaharoff Signature Pour Homme? Yes. It's pretty good but Beau de Jour reigns supreme.
Have had my eyes on this one for awhile now, as fougeres and “barbershop” fragrances are my favorite. 👍
At the Barber's has pretty mediocre performance on me. Smells strong in the opening but dies down quickly. It also lacks the depth of Beau de Jour which I find to have much better longevity and projection.
MR. S- I have recently purchased Milano Cento and it is indeed lovely- thank you for that discovery. Have you ever tried Lancetti Monsieur? It is very similar to Milano Cento, not as bright, more mossy perhaps. I bet you'd dig it if you've never smelled that one. Cheers!
I have Lancetti Monsieur and it sits right next to Milano Cento Him in my collection. Both have a similar medicinal undercurrent running through them. I was wondering if that medicinal streak was a feature of Italian fougeres.
Mr. Smelly. I want to purchase your Gravitas can I please get a code? They want an extra $10.00 for shipping..thanks
Discount code for Gravitas now?
Great Video, gives more options for fragrances outside of USA
😎 I like Beau de Jour layered with 1725 Casanova 🤤 To die for
That sounds like a potent brew! 😜
Big fan of Milano Cento, Great vid and loved the intro which felt very familiar 🙏
Thanks a lot Scott!
Hi Dan! Just in time! I like a lot Beau de Jour its a nice fougere.
Its, masculine, barbershop feeling its a realy good fragance.
By the way, i received last week mine Gravitas pour Homme, from Naugton & Wilson.
Yes! Its a great, great fragance, match very well with my personality.
I give for your fragance and its not a compliment its just my personal opinion a 8.3 out of 10.
Just a opinion of a colector.
So...Its very recomended by me.
As a psichology men, i dont like to recomend brands, i like to recomend first persons and second good things.
Your fragance its a realy good thing, in this case a great fragance for a true gentleman.
Congratulations!!
When i go for next special ocasion, suit and tie, your fragance Gravitas its part of my wardrobe.
In this moment im being in silence, because my country its in a bad pandemic situation.
Im being writing to persons in RUclips in psichology channels and gave them Strenght.
I stopped purchase fragances, because its time to Health, not time to fragances.
I have the oportunity, to wish good luck to all British people and all Portuguese people.
Take care Dan, and Regards here from Porto, Portugal.
Nelson Silva.
Great video Daniel - Many Thanks!!
Thanks Greg!
You must try Bon Monsieur from Rogue perfumery-very much like Bea de Jour, but with pine which makes me like it a touch more. I know you’re a fan of their Chypre-Siam too.
But Chypre Siam with oakmoss gives cancer and allergy.

Please not they currently temporarily ship only in the UK due to Brexit related issues. Hopefully these will be resolved ASAP.
😎 Both versions of BdJ from Perfume Parlour are really good by the way.
Those outtakes are like all my videos.🤣🤣 You tried Lomond by executive shaving yet? It has a similar vibe at a real good price and Matt created it.👍🏻🙏🏻
You didn’t specify EDT or EDP on the Milano Cento.. Any preference?
He did specify it's the EDT
Hi Mr smelly I actually reached out for some details on your website and sending you a mail regarding brexit and taxes but I have not got an answer
Dior eau sauvage edt or beau de jour?!
Love both. Vintage Eau Sauvage wins for me. I prefer B d J to modern Eau Sauvage I think . They are not very alike though.
@@MrSmelly1977 I love the modern Dior Eau Sauvage EDT. Its #2 in my overall collection. Beau de Jour is #5 in my overall collection (#1 in barbershop Fougere collection). I'm not sure what the vintage Eau Sauvage smells like because something is wrong with the Dua clone ("Cosmopolitan Vintage") I bought. Its awful. But just as with modern Eau Sauvage, the modern Polo Green smells fantastic to me. Everyone says the vintage of those two are better but I can't imagine anything better than the recent formulations I have. For reference, here are my top 5 overall:
1. Ralph Lauren Polo Green
2. Dior Eau Sauvage EDT
3. Terre d'Hermes Parfum
4. Creed Bois du Portugal
5. Tom Ford Beau de Jour
Margiela at the barber's - one of the best fougere fragrances for its price.
I agree it’s really good.
Wow we’re have I been for the last 2 years. I’ve missed a lot. An aromatic fougere by Tom Ford!
Zino Davidoff. The dry down Is excellent and almost Identical to TF beau de jour. I must confess that TF's has a much better opening
Yep. Closest among the others in scent profile to Bea de Jour would be Davidoff Zino. Still very different though.
Are there any fogeres without rosemary or thyme that are any good?
Davidoff Zino gives a similar vibe for a fraction of the price.
and heritage edt
It is very similar to Zino Davidoff!
Its beastly on me
Zino by Davidoff.Cheap and Fantastic
Dan i hate Beau de jour.I love fougeres & i’m nuts about green fragrances & I’m not shy of wearing anything that is mature leaning afterall i am getting on for half a century!! So when i read that this was a sort of modern fougere i thought bang on i’m gonna love this but it’s just dreary. Lavender, lavender, lavender hint of patch maybe some ambroxan or something at the end. It’s been done to death and way better. I just think the lavender is just to obvious for me, i have the same problem with bois du portugal its just so front & centre it feels dated, yet a fragrance like bracken which is also mature leaning & opens with a huge dose of lavender but is countered by clove & cypress so it just works imo.I blind bought a full bottle of BDJ based on the hype but it’s beyond dull Oh & my mrs detests it i’m just glad i didn’t buy it when it was a private blend 😳my advice is if your after this kind of thing get zino or houbigant fougere royal or even better get bracken man or sartorial. Still i enjoyed the review Dan but’s a no from me.
Interesting take. All noses are different. I love Beau de Jour. #1 in my Barbershop Fougere collection. And it is unique in the barbershop Fougere genre. I love and have all the other frags you mentioned. Amouage Bracken Man is the most photorealistic Fougere ever. It literally smells like a damp, earthy, green fern in a marsh. But it's not a "barbershop" scent in my opinion. It's an example of a CLASSIC Fougere that is not "barbershop". Much like Houbigant Fougere Royale 2010, Bracken Man is a modern interpretations of the 1882 original.
On me it’s beast mode
Is it me or Dan looks thinner ? 😱
Looking handsome as usual 🙈
❤👍👍👍
😁😁😁
Don’t really know why but this one is a nuke on my skin.
LOL! I feel much better about all the times I have to edit out stuff from my videos now.
Ha ha. I always have to snip a lot out!
Damn that intro gave me an aneurysm
Dan get your nose on Jil Sander MAN Pure ll
Quite a few clunkers in the TF line. This one is okay though.
HAHAHAHAHA

It's not the fact that you put "1", it's the fact you thumbs up your own comment that offends
🤣😂
can't believe anyone buy Beau de Jour, no performance at all
