- This is a complete tour of our prepper pantry stored in a 12' x 12' room I built until we get our spare bedrooms back.
You'll see between six months to one-year (Closer to one year) of long-term food storage for my wife and me. We're at the point now where we just need to replace what we use but we do still tend to add more months over time.
I hope this video gives you some ideas and inspiration. If you're just starting out, PLEASE don't let this intimidate you. It takes time and dedication to build this around of food storage but all it takes is a plan and consistent action. Honestly, spread over time it never dug into our family budget and we never use credit.
There's also a saving aspect when you're slowing building up your prepper pantry. It not only allows you to shop sales but you're beating the rise of inflation when you begin consuming it.

Stop apologizing and saying the word ‘hoarding’. You are not hoarding. You are prepared. My family chooses this instead of purses, shoes, vacations, etc. everyone has choices, this is yours.
Absolutely Carla, my night out with the guys means hanging out with cans of groceries. No bowling nights, golf or sports. Just family, prepping and blogging. I wouldn't have it any other way. I love this life. Thank you.

Agree. People would tease, laugh and bully me because I have 6 month to a yrs of food. When this situation happen and food was gone, they called me to help them.
When it snows or storms outside I go into my pantry and look at the rows of fruit and veg I have put up and the canned and dried food preps I have. I feel like the richest and most secure person in the world. This feeling of security is so important for my peace of mind.

Thanks E K, I have three boxes put together right now just waiting to be picked up by a family that needs it. They didn't make it yesterday. I actually thought that was what got the dogs barking during the video but they probably seen a cat or something.

Yep...My grandparents grew up in great depression era. Basement shelves and 3 extra freezers were always fully stocked. They were preppers long before I had a word for it. As a child, I never fully understood it. I was happy though because they had all the good stuff 🙂. As I grew, I graduated from " helper" to the organizer and rotator. I had fun doing it and as they aged, organization, ( for them) wasn't as much of a concern as just having it. Took me a few decades (and a few kids of my own) but I fully " get it" now. Fond memories, good food, fun times and many lessons learned. ❤ ( edit: spelling error)
I hope they learn from it. The run on TP again gives me doubt.

I agree Nick. If anything we're helping community by not buying when the shelves are low. We didn't step foot in a store for months because we didn't have to.
Six months for 2 adults. You are being very modest sir. Adding some more rice and pasta 150lbs for each I would say you have about 24 months of food easy!

Hide your preps behind the furniture, under the bed, and any spare closet you can keep him out of. DONT put anything in garage. Food won't keep where gas vehicles are and temp will make even canned food have shorter life.
I just found your channel and I have to say, I am very impressed. You aren't hoarding, this is how our ancestors lived. If they hadn't, we wouldn't be here to call each other names. Since you are public with your preps, please be careful.
Thank you and we are very careful. Large family, large dogs, alarm system with 360 degree camera coverage and we're all well armed. If things got so bad we thought people might be coming from the city we wouldn't stay here. We have another place.

I also count my foods in 26 or 52 weeks. 52 cans of ground beef being one a week for a year. If we don’t eat a lot of something, I do 26. It works great counting like that. I also love checking out my pantry and seeing where I might have any holes in my preps. It is a rewarding, secure feeling.
It is Frankie, very rewarding. I've been going over hygiene supplies and doubling down on those. Even little things like eyeglass cleaner q-tips.
That’s what I do too. I’m just starting my one year food storage.
How a storm or action of war dose not effect your storage. Lose your roof and there goes your stuff.😮

Thank you for the idea of putting a date on the front. It’s visually easier (and quicker) to see the date. I’ll put my son to work adding dates on everything.
Yep, that's exactly why I do it. Seeing the date clearly without looking all over the container makes rotation a breeze.
I have started putting different colored stickers on them that indicate the year and I write the number of the month on the sticker. So and orange 3 means it is best be march 2022 for instance. I found it was a lot easier to keep a certain color sticker in the front than look at each item that closely.

Thank you Rhonda but I'm not competing, I just was to inspire others to prepare for a rainy day. Most preppers I know are reluctant to show their pantry to me and would never record a video but I've seen a few over the years that make our pantry look like a tiny closet.
I agree with you.. not a competition... but you absolutely know what you're doing..... and it helps the rest of us fill in the gaps.... btw.... something you might want to investigate.... country salt cured whole hams....
I’m guessing that meat could go twice as far as you’ve estimated. Each of those Keystone cans is 28 oz. Granted, some of that is liquid, but there is probably still 1.5 pounds of meat. We mix in bbq sauce with the pork or beef and get 6-8 servings from a can. Paired with beans or rice it will go farther. I may have missed it as I was skipping through a bit, but peanut butter is good to keep in stock as a protein to fill in any gaps in the meat supply or to make it last longer. Excellent pantry, organization and advice!
@@rustybarrel516 It's true, there's a lot of meat in those cans. We both like the beef and when it's just the two of us we can get dinner and lunch from a can. I tend to under count servings to have a buffer. I know all those emergency food supplies we bought (They're at our other place) over count servings. The real number of servings is closer to half what they advertise. Plus most of them taste pretty bad.
Peanut butter is an awesome prep. We only keep half a dozen jars because it will go bad eventually but we also have peanut butter powder too.

Seeing your pantry makes me feel so unprepared. I was thinking i had food for at least 3/4 months. Maybe not. Wow.
@J Moore true. We have 4 plus one possibly (fiancé) if things go south too bad.
@J Moore agree. I can’t have chickens because of the HOA, but I’ve thought about rabbits for food. I already eat rabbit so it would not be much of a change. We consider it more of a delicacy here since it’s so expensive but as far as fishing, we have a pond in our back yard. Not sure i would eat the fish from it though as it’s on a golf course which i am sure has pesticides and fertilizers all washing into it. Lots of turtles in there too. Eat at your own risk i suppose. My fear is all the people coming into our property to access the pond. That’s not cool.
It takes time Nadine. You'll get there. I'm proud of you just for getting started and three or four months is an amazing achievement. How many events has there be in our lifetimes where that wouldn't carry us through? I can't think of a single time. You're doing great.

My kids think I’m a hoarder, but I live alone 30 miles from town and if I get sick, snowed in or if/when something happens I need to be prepared!
I watch minimalist videos and think, dang I am a hoarder but wonder what will those people do ? Then I watch these and think I need to kick it up a notch or 10 notches 🤷🏼♀️
You have to wonder how many minimalists have turned to preppers after shelves were empty for weeks on end. The concept of preparedness has exploded this year. People are waking up.
Trust me, you're not a hoarder if you can throw things you don't need out. We can't allow irresponsible people to redefine hoarding just to fit us in a box.
I live alone and started prepping some years ago. I was so glad that I had as I had my own SHTF moment last year when I got cancer. I'm now on the mend and my stockpile really saved me. The one thing I would recommend is removing the cardboard from inside the toilet rolls, they flatten down quite well and one bin can hold an amazing amount!

When corona hit and the toilet paper / paper towel scare and food shortages the next year , I was ready and laughing at the ones rushing around trying to find food.
I actually helped my neighbors out .

Great Job. We had some friends who lost everything to a home fire. We gave them our living room set so they could get there feet back on the ground...they had no insurance. We had our Pantry in four locations. We now converted our living room into a Prepper pantry so we now have five locations of stocked food. Keep up the good work.

Prepping goals I’m slowly working on my pantry and even made my grandma and mom start too , they thought I was crazy when I kept showing them videos like these a couple years ago and when that shortage happened they admit was right lol 😂

My husband took a count of our canned chicken and he said, "We got 22 cans. Don't buy no more." Later on, I found 6 more cans I got from a recent Costco haul....but I didn't tell him. lol
LOL If you ever need it you'll be glad you did. I just canned 14 quarts of chicken and have 40 lbs of pork butt to finish thes week. Then more chicken.

It’s nice to be on the same page with your spouse regarding prep supplies, but I’m guessing it’s commonplace for the more risk averse spouse to do some extra “secret” prepping. At least, it is in my house. 😎👍
@@rustybarrel516 My wife always supported the things I've done but mostly by tolerating them. The same with prepping for years but at the beginning of Covid when we had 7 people locked down inside without leaving for over a month and we didn't need anything, she's actively on board now. Even once we opened the doors we didn't go shopping for a couple months.
A couple weeks ago she noticed her favorite chili and bean sauce in a can was low so she bought a full case. Now I see her looking around the pantry with papper and pen looking for holes to fill.
I think a big part of it for her was being about to help family and a few friends when they couldn't find what they needed in the stores. At least once a week we were giving groceries and supplies away. We were able to give our veterinarian a case of kydex jump suits and surgical masks. We took over 200 N-95 masks to the hospital that treated her for brest cancer. I don't think she'll ever go back to that "shop week to week" thought process.

I love pantry tours because it’s inspiring and I enjoy seeing what others stock and I think about if I might also need/want that. It’s interesting how varied pantries are. Initially this was hard for me because I wanted a literal list of what to stock. It took me a long time to realize the beauty in each pantry being different because each person is different.
Yep, they're as diverse as we are. It would be easier if one size fit all but we have different needs, goals, diets, and budgets.
This video was so inspiring and gave me a lot of very helpful ideas. You certainly are not bragging. From my perspective and personal experience, preppers are a very special type of human. We care about others and their welfare. So much of we do is for others to be safe, warm, fed, and taken care of. My husband loves that I've tried my best to get a very good stockpile for our kids and family! I'm a brand new subscriber today and I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos! Thanks again!

It's true, at least family and friends that know you're prepping. You have to wonder about those that say their family will be met with a shotgun if they show up hungry because they didn't prepare. I think that's mostly talk. At least I hope so.
Figure about 750 pounds of food for one person per year including protein, fats, carbs, fruits and vegetables. Water at a minimal of one gallon per day...more if you plan to bathe, cook, wash laundry and do dishes.

@@NextStepSurvival Probably just talk but I can understand why they wouldn't be receptive to family rocking up to their door expecting to be fed. Some have sacrificed a lot to build a stockpile while family & friends went out to eat, had holidays, bought cars & clothes. Lot of peppers struggle to put away a little each shopping trip. Why should they feel obligated to give to others who were in better position to prepare for themselves.
Oh, I totally understand Lynnette, I'm one of those people. It's frustrating to work so hard and watch family better off financially have three days of food. I was referring to the folks that act like their gonna shot ain't Jane of the porch if she comes. It's a little extreme. I might say, "Sorry but no" but hopefully things won't get that bad. They absolutely might but I hope not.

Sweet! I don't have the ability to "see" all my storage, particularly the longest term storage (and I was inspired to split it into two locations 70 miles apart--- JUST 2 weeks prior to a 7.5 earthquake it turns out), so I have NOW fully inventoried it on to a spread sheet. This helped me a lot in "seeing" what I have (in both locations) and strategizing my next purchases and plans. I'm impressed with your supplies. It's clear you've done a great deal of work-- so organized!
Sounds fantastic Francine. Our other place isn't setup the same and I need to inventory it. We're here everyday and using the food. It's all long term foods there and packed up.
I have been canning and dehydrating everything in our freezers, it sucks but we lost everything in ours freezers a few years back do to an ice storm and long term power outage, lost a few grand just in fish alone. With everything happening now I just feel better knowing most of our food is shelf stable.Thankfully I HOARDED jars and lids!
That's a nice option. BTW, you can buy freezer alarms that chime when the temperature gets too high. You can also see the actual temperature of each freezer on a display. I have one in each of ours but they do go through batteries fast.
I grew up where we raised most everything we ate. Meat chicken duck fruits and vegetables and we had milk cows. Lots of hard work.
We bought potatoes beans flour and sugar as well as lard in huge quantities each fall.
We seldom went to town and never bought bought groceries but that it was in big quantities if what we didnt produce.
It wasn't hoarding it was getting by.
Being snowed in for weeks did not stress us because we couldn't get to the store.
I think those that don't stock up are nuts.
That kind of incredible upbringing makes you light-years ahead of most. Very cool. 🙂
Pumpkin is good for pets if they getting a upset stomach. So good to have if You have pets

People stock up on meat today i went to the meat market I paid $7 dollars for ground beef it was only good for 1 hamburger unbelievable I bought it to make a point and show my family that thing as are getting worse
We got some good deals this week so I'll be canning some meats. Our freezers are stuffed full.

Wow! You have done an Amazing job! Very informative and impressive. I feel like such a underachiever seeing your set up. But you have given me some inspiration. Space is an issue for me at the moment. But when I move to my new place it must have prepping ability and storage.
I'm glad it helped a little. Space and money are the biggest obstacles for us. I have three bedrooms that are being used temporarily and when those are available again I have to be careful. If I fill those up with food someone should have me committed. 😆

Prepping isn't that big in Australia, but I've been doing it for more than 20 years. Started off small, grabbing a few extra things here & there each time I shopped. Now I grow so much of my own food, raise livestock, can my own food. Becoming more & more self sufficient each day & enjoying off grid living. I easily have 5 years of food stored. One thing I couldn't do though is post online. I like to keep it covert. In an SHTF situation I don't want crazies breaking down my door. So many people around me are ill prepared. They have no idea of the storm that is coming!! Failing to prepare is preparing to fail!

I started prepping a couple years ago. I don't want to be one of these crazy 2+ year end of the world preppers, but 3-4 months for me, seems prudent. I don't go into debt to prep and I haven't stopped living to prep. I take my time and have fun with it, I find it interesting, a challenge. As prepared as I am when an emergency hits is better than I would be if I hadn't started. Got 1-2 months of water, 3-4 months of food, flashlights and batteries out the wazoo, solar for small electronics, 6,500 watt tri fuel generator hooked up to my natural gas with back up propane if natural gas goes out too. As I watch videos, I add crap to my prep list to pick up as time and money permit. To those who haven't started, did I mention it it fun and interesting.
Yeah John, I'm with you 100%. Everyone has different goals and situations and it sounds like you're setup nicely. More importantly you know you "why" and work for that. I totally respect that.

Thanks Mayra, I got those at Walmart for $80 or $90 each. That sounds like a lot but I only bought a couple racks a year as we needed them. They hold a lot of weight too. I like the black racks but they come in silver too.
okay, I love your idea of that first aid box thing. Half the time I can't find my stupid bandaids and that looks like a great place to store everything!
It is nice that it stays right there. It's a little overkill but that's kind of how we do everything around here. ;)

Very impressive stock.
1. Repackage food items in plastic containers to either glass containers or Mylar bags. Plastic containers are air and moisture permeable which will cause your food to spoil. For instance the olive oil in those plastic jugs. Ditto for Tomato sauce in Plastic bottles.
2. Unfortunately Quaker Oats oatmeal has significant amount of Roundup (Herbacide). They spray Roundup on the oats to speed up drying so they can harvest them quicker.
3. Recommend you repackage your bulk dry foods (mash potatoes, pasta, etc) in Mylar boxes.
4. Upgrade your door locks for security.

I store a majority long term food storage (20 plus year shelf life). I have about 70 five gallon buckets with Mylar bags in them with rice, different beans, flour, powdered milk, etc. I have three big shelves of shorter term foods such as peanut butter, cans of meat/veggies/fruit, coffee, and the rest. Definitely good job on your stockpile. I thought I was the only one that bought a ton of canned pumpkin haha. I also make wine so I figured I’d use it for pumpkin wine; I have hundreds of pounds of sugar stored in five gallon buckets so I will be able to make a few hundred gallons of various wines. Good job, sir.
That sounds fantastic Brmic. I haven't tried making wine but I do a lot of fermenting and was making a bunch of kombucha. I need to get back into that along with sour dough bread.
We bought our 5 gallon water bottles from Walmart and then we fill them at a water kiosk for $1 to $1.25 a fill for reverse osmosis water. We number them so we use the oldest first. Just another idea that in the end costs less. Your prep room looks great. Good job and thank you for sharing.
Thanks Cherrin, that's smart. I used Wal-Mart's kiosk to fill my juice bottles. It has several filtering processes.
You can also buy replacement caps for those large 5 gallon water bottles on Amazon. They're not perfect so you need to store them standing up. At first I was stacking them on their side but a couple started leaking a little.
We do the same at wm@ .39 gal=so $1.95 (no other kiosk around) we use a sandwich bag and a rubber band to cover over the opening so nothing gets inside.
Hey there Michigan neighbor, just found your vlog. My neighbor 's mom always had a pantry like this, and her mom was raised on a farm. It just makes good sense. We started building ours just prior to COVID-19
Great timing Mary. It's never been more important in my opinion. It feels like things could go either way. Between the elections, protests, covid, lock downs, and financial uncertainty, it would be crazy to have the "wait and see" mentality.

I hope you do Marsha. A few extra items each week really adds up. You don't have to have a special pantry for your preps. You can start at the bottom of a closet or under the bed. Anything to just get started.

Wow, I need to step up my game/preps. I LOVE learning when it comes to my own survival and I for sure that watching your vid and I subscribed too. I have 2-3 years of some and 2-6 months of preps so I need to focus on my weak spots a whole lot more. I keep thinking first aid and how incredibly that supply can go to zero when SHTF occurs, so thank you for this vid it is keeping me on my toes which is the safest place to be. Take care.

And as we've already seen, what's available in the stores today doesn't mean it'll be there tomorrow.
