    I can't stand when people say this isn't hoarding. But yet when people buy a bunch of purses and shoes and perfumes and jewelry y'all call that hoarding. This is also a form of hoarding. Its something to feel secure with. And everyone hoards differently. You wouldnt call buying purses and fancy things or a bunch of cars prepping right? Exactly. Just say everyone preps in a different way to feel safe and secure and as a coping mechanism

    • @NextStepSurvival
      @NextStepSurvival 10 дней назад

      @rachel3682 I think you've completely missed the point. It isn't hoarding because we built our stocks up over time without causing any issues for anyone else. It isn't hoarding because we're not buying and storing items we'll never use or need. When there were shortages and people needed things, many of us stayed home because we were set. This helped our communities when they needed it. And I don't know anyone who cares how many purses or shoes someone has and wouldn't dream of accusing them of hoarding. I'm not sure where that idea is coming from. 🤔

    • @rachel3682
      @rachel3682 10 дней назад

      @@NextStepSurvival i haven't missed the point, everyone is taking my comment as literal. It is some form of hoarding. If you're calling it hoarding before someone said something. Theres completely nothing wrong with some form of hoarding as long as it benefits you in some way. This is what I meant. Like me, I don't just stock up on food and supplies. I literally go to antique stores and get old fashioned items like clothing irons that you heat up on the stove, paracord to hang up clothes or I stock up on a bunch of different kinds of wash boards. Water purification tablets, lifestraws, baking soda and coconut oil things that you can use for multi-purpose. Or even some other old fashioned items so I can do everything by hand if things go down. And I buy multiples and multiples of them just in case one fails. That's a form of hoarding. I hoard all of those things. And believe it or not before I switch to this I used to stock up on purses and shoes and jewelry and I would use them all the time I would switch it up. Like I said people get things to benefit them for their own comfort. So it is indeed a form of hoarding. So for people to tell me I missed the point actually missed my point and took it as literally. Even if I did buy a bunch of things that I didn't need I would still buy them and I would still use them. I don't need a lot of the antiques but I still buy them just in case. I no longer hoard purses or shoes or buy certain outfits. But at this point I've been starting to use and reuse everything. I'll even take fabric that I got from some of my other clothes that I bought or that are old and use them for something else or shape them and something else because I used to be in fashion design as well. So I know how to crochet I know how to sew blankets or any kind of clothes and do everything by hand etc. Everything you said I already knew especially the part where their were shortages. Mainly the only reason I hoarded purses and shoes and all that even though I have used them I sold them to people in order to make extra money and it hasn't failed me yet

      @NextStepSurvival 19 дней назад

      @Lost_soul1975 I can handle heat and off-grid electricity for about a month. Beyond that, I'm in the same boat as everyone else if it's winter. Mason jars can take our winter temps, as well as the canned goods. I know this from what's in our unheated garage. I'm not sure what you consider 'most' of the food. I'd be more concerned with our family in an unheated home over the food.

    • @Lost_soul1975
      @Lost_soul1975 19 дней назад

      @@NextStepSurvival Well...a wood stove and ample supply of firewood or pellets would remedy both issues. If the grid goes down for any length of time in the cold months...food AND a heated home are equally important. Personally, I have a wood stove, pellet stove and propane heat for my home. Along with a lot of food that can freeze without issue.

    Males need to note that the cook( usually a female) put COMPLEATE MEALS TOGETHER They dont pull out meat for a week and stack it together. They pull out 1 protein a vegetable or two a fruit, dairy and a bread starch( like noodles) and everything is together so their is no hunting for items. Also snacks aregrouped together with what their used with the peanut butter and jelly needs a box of crackers or a shelf stable bread, ( a box mix would do) also a random shelf of canned vegetables is a little odd unless its all the same thing. Most families will have a single vegetable served with specifically meal. Like green beans is always served with spaghetti. Using more single serving foods is more useful in a power outage. And you showed nothing on ways to cook the food. Canned goods can be heat and serve. ALL BREAKFAST YOU SHOWED REQUIRE COOKING. ( dollar general has sausage gravey in a can. Can be eaten cold and yummy) i like salmon in small cans boneless and skinless. Can be eaten cold. If your not gonna show an easy method of cooking in a power out WHY ARE YOU SHOWING FOOD THAT REQUIRES COOKING . Dry beans and rice require cooking. ( Smaller beans like lentils, black eye peas take less time and water to cook than pintos or chic peas)and in emergency canned beans are better even if more expensive. No cooking required only a can opener and a spoon. Im in public housing and in the last 15 years my power goes out regularly.

      I love that you have thought things through for your situation. That's important. This was a video on starting a pantry. Not a blackout cook kit. Look around my channel, and you will find videos on cooking from the pantry. Every SHTF event doesn't mean no electricity or water, but we prep for those. I try to show options. If someone prefers green beans with pasta, they can store those. I wouldn't assume that 'most' people prefer a particular meal plan over another. Just as I wouldn't assume the female does the cooking. My idea of a working pantry doesn't assume there's no electricity, water, or gas, and it doesn't group everything into ready to eat meals. We rotate these pantry items into our daily lives and have built it up as we went. Today, we have well over a year's supply of food. But you do what works best for you. There's no one solution for all. The important thing is that you're planning for potential emergencies.

    I have never dry canned before, but I've done some food preservation (i.e. pressure cooking). Thanks for uploading the video. Watching through this though, I'm curious as to how you manage the risk with regards to Clostridium spores which thrive in anaerobic non-acidic environments. Usually in non-acidic liquid canning if you see bubbles its a sure sign to boil it for at least 20 minutes (to break down the toxin), or throw it out depending on contents, but you don't have that kind of warning with dry canning. As far as I'm aware, all foods contain pocket moisture, which is not necessarily driven off using a vacuum sealer, and since the toxin and spore in question is both tasteless and odorless it presents a hazard to most preservation techniques outside of only a few that have been proven to kill it (annoyingly so). This mostly seems to be why the USDA considers the practice unsafe generally, but we also know how a lot of standards pushed may or may not be backed by science and research (such as California benzene levels for household exposure, which have no scientific reference), but this particular area does seems to be backed so I'm curious if you take any additional steps in your dry canning process to mitigate these risks.

    You carry a gun but no tourniquet? If you make holes expect to receive holes. You will bleed in less then 3 min from a severed artery. It can take an ambulance over 15 min to come depending on how far you are from an emergency services. By the time you are dead, the emergency services would still be on their way. I’ve always said, you should not carry a gun if you do not carry a TK and trauma kit and be trained in TCCC. Get a trauma kit and get the training.

    • @NextStepSurvival
      @NextStepSurvival 8 месяцев назад

      Funny how the tourniquet is becoming the topic of choice for a get-home pack. If you watch my EDC pack video, you'll see I carry a tourniquet daily. In this case, a walk home when everything is shut down due to a severe SHTF event, my focus is to get home. Considering we're talking about the unlikely situation where cars are not even running, how effective will a tourniquet be? If there won't be an ambulance coming, how far is that tourniquet going to get me? It's just a comment I made in the video. I also said I would grab my med kit from my EDC pack if needed. If I was walking home for anything short of an EMP, I'd have my trauma kit, including a tourniquet. Although, if cars are running, I'd like to think I'm resourceful enough to get a ride home. My thoughts anyway.

    So if you get an artery injury you won't carry a tourniquet because you think you will get to a hospital on time, my friend you can die from a artery bleed in 3 to 5 minutes, good luck on that. Trauma kit is a necessary item.

      53yrs on this ball and I’ve used/needed to applied a tourniquet zero times which included 5 yrs with ems. Nice to have and I do carry them at certain times but I think he’s trying to avoid carrying a duffel bag and choosing to move expeditiously. By the sounds of it he’s in a more urban environment so avoiding cars is his biggest challenge.

    It is none of anyone's business whether they feel that is hoarding or not. It WAS a free country. I don't tell anyone they are hording clothes, pocketbooks, toys, candles whatever. They all had same info thanks to channels like yours same as us. What most people don't understand most people who prepare are normally quite generous in spirit. God bless you and. Yours and much thanks.😊.most have no idea how much is needed to supply a family for a year. Seeing your quantity should be a wake up call.

    I think the monsoon gear slinger is the biggest sling bag maxpedition makes, but yours is certainly more utilitarian. I used the monsoon on my first trip to Hawaii, and it worked for a carryon luggage solution, but I could never find a way to make it work as an edc without making it bulky and impractical. I sold it a few years ago and now over the last few weeks I’m feeling the pangs of “maybe I could make that work…”

      I addressed that a few times in the video, even showing a photo of the 20-foot walk I have. I don't carry the pack any further than from vehicle to vehicle. I'm a driver, the cab of my truck is my office. It's 25 lbs. with the water bottle.

      @@NextStepSurvival I have a similar off brand bag and it weighs 20 lbs with my water bottle and I carry it to work (pistol and fixed blade come out as I work in a hospital) and at least for me I still don't mind the weight. I just adjusted the straps so it sits comfortably.

      It can be a challenge sometimes. I imagine some people might say the same with any abundance, right? How many people have said they wouldn't want a lot of money because whatever work they perceive it costs? A big house takes more effort. A big pantry is no different. It all depends on our individual priorities.

      A lot of people don't consider things we keep close as every day carry but I do. I have an EDC pack I carry each day. As long as you have what you need when you need it. And those things are unique to us and our circumstances.
