Seems like that’s what Sam Raimi wanted. Take the entire black simbiote out of the equation. It really feels like it’s Peter Parker trying to control his ego and not losing sight what is important in life. It’s not about success or fame but doing what’s right.

I can’t get enough of the Spider-Man vs Green Goblin fights in this movie. Also, the scene when Osborn turns into the Goblin scared the crap out of me as a kid.
Same! The goblin transformation and the disintegration of the board members in this movie, and the hospital scene in this movie, were all scary as heck when I was a kid lol. When I eventually found out Raimi was usually a horror director it made alot of sense XD
Spider-Man 3 is the breaking down of Spider Man. He's overwhelmed by everything and villains are coming from everywhere and are progressively getting stronger. Peter almost lost himself to Venom because he felt overwhelmed and lost between trying to hold onto Mary Jane and his duty as a Hero

So true. Spider-Man was the first movie series to bring us out of the dark ages and into a new era. Same thing with the video games now, they're bringing us into a new era.
@S.R Yes, I just watched Spider-Man 2, and the tone of those movies are really different from the MCU. It's always filled with jokes now, and the characters in those movies felt more relatable to me.

Spider-man: I'm not like you you're a murderer. Goblin: well to each his own. I chose my path you chose the way of the hero and they found you amusing for a while, the people of this city. But the one thing they love more than a hero is to see a hero fail, fall, die trying. Inspite of everything you've done for them eventually they will hate you. Why bother? I miss the feel of the Raimi movies. They get so much emotion out of me. There's so many scenes where I either tear up, get chills everywhere or just get a dumb smile on my face and so on. I feel almost none of these things from the more recent Spider-Man movies and it's so disappointing because I love Spider-Man and it really sucks watching a Spider-Man movie and feeling almost nothing. I'd really love to see them come back for one last time and do Spider-Man 4 and I know it's not likely to happen but I like to think it'll still happen someday
I like this version the best too especially for movies. I don’t care for the newer stand alone movies as much but the newer version fits better with the Avengers so it’s kinda conflicting. The newer ones should take some notes from the Sam Raimi Spider Man as far as the drama and character aspects go. A movie with high school drama and one obvious gotcha moment isn’t enough to draw me in.
Maybe there is still a chance we can see Tobey return as spider man in ITSV 2. Christopher Miller, who worked on ITSV said on Twitter: *We pitched the Sony brass an ambitious tag involving Spider-Ham, Tobey, Andrew, and Tom. They felt it was “too soon”*
Yeah, the feels is what makes the Rami films for me too. Even the new Marvelized ones, while enjoyable, don't have that bittersweet tone, a perfect balance of soap opera/action/comedy/drama. Sure he doesn't have mechanical web spinners and Green Goblin looks not great, but it just feels right.
This one will always be my favorite. Spider-Man 2 was good too but this one I think is still the best. I remember when I was nine it came out and we went and watched it three times in the theater 😂
This is without a doubt my favourite film ever. Dafoe absolutely kills it as Norman, Raimi completely gets the character, the tension is amazing. It does Spider-Man so well. A lot better than the Holland films.
“GO WEB!” “Flyyy!” “UP UP AND AWAY WEB!” “SHAZAM!” “GO!” 🤏 “GO!” 👍 “GO WEB GO!” 🤟 I love this movie so much 😂❤️ and Spider-Man 2 is an absolute masterpiece 🙌
I love when people acknowledge that a movie isn't perfect or a masterpiece, but it's something that means a lot to them and that's why they rate it so high. I was in my 20s when the Raimi trilogy came out, but the movies didn't impact me as it did others. I am glad to see people talk fondly about them without lashing out at those who love other Spidey reiterations. There's Spidey for everyone. And that's what we should be celebrating.
When JJJ refuses to give up Peter even though his life was on the line was amazing. You learn so much about him as a person so quick. On rewatches I tear up a little
Fun Fact: Willem Dafoe actually doing 90% of his stunts in this movie. And even he's already terrifying without wearing his Green Goblin mask. He is an underrated actor tho. People should praise him more for his powerful actings.
This movie holds a place near to my heart. My family didnt have much growing up, so birthdays where a small toy and a meal, we didnt have the money to do more. I was 5 and saw the ad on tv for this movie called spiderman coming out near my birthday and I just thought I really want to see that. I went around the neighborhood collecting cans and doing chores to find money for the movie. On the day of my birthday I said I'd go to a friends house and went to the theater with a pocketful of change. I didn't know how money worked, so I just dropped it all on the counter and said I want to see spiderman. The guy at the booth helped me out by counting my coins, helped me with the menu and brought me to the auditorium. And there I was, with my small popcorn and my medium coke, enjoying the birthday gift I had worked so hard for. I didn't really understand the plot, I was scared shitless during Norman's transformation to the point that I had nightmares and thats how my parents found out. But I was so happy. I fell in love with cinema at that moment. I can't hear the opening theme without tearing up a bit, it brings back the feeling that I could do everything and that I would work my way to my goals. It's my most cherished cinema going experience. And to this day that is still how I celebrate my birthday. I have no party for myself, no gifts (my gf and mother always plan something now and get me a little something) but I still go to the cinema and with the spare change I got through the year I buy myself a ticket, a popcorn and a coke and feel invincible. Thank you Jeremy for reviewing this, your videos mean so much to me, they helped me think about the world in a different way in a time I needed it, they even lead into meeting my said girlfriend, but thats a story for another time. Thank you for your time and effort, I will keep watching everything you make
I feel like the cheese was necessary looking back now, considering Raimi was paying tribute to the '60s Spider-Man comics and all its campiness, not to mention the soap opera of the comics. In spite of the superficial details like the web-shooters and the intellect, Raimi nailed the tone and message of the comics pretty well.
if you idk JUST remain knowledgable about its Superman the Movie inspiration and 9/11 post filmmaking, then you will eat up the cheese! It`s a timeless masterpiece!!
The one thing nobody talks about is how amazing and brutal the fight scenes are. The final battle in spiderman 1 scared me as a kid, insanely brutal. The train scene in Spiderman 2 is the GREATEST action set piece of all time, and even the subway scene in Spiderman 3 is really, really good
Tobeys Spider-Man threw hands at the drop of a hat. Garfields Spidey was more into the agility and web tricks, Hollands Spider-Boy just relies on his suit. Toe to toe the original Spider-Man trilogy has the toughest Peter Parker
Ain’t that “despite everything you’ve done for them, eventually they will hate you.” just the truth? Green Goblin predicted the cancel culture for real.

He just like, is the best MOVIE Spiderman, maybe he doesn't fit as well as Holland but he is the only Spiderman that stars in a MOVIE, not a marvel flick or a modern film, a MOVIE.
Tom Holland is fine, it's just his SPIDER-MAN that's the problem. He's written like garbage. The romance is written like some Pre-K garbage. It's not even awkward-cute, its just AWKWARD. Both Homecoming and Far From Home were written for KIDS. Meanwhile, Sam Raimi's Spiderman is written for HUMANITY. Everybody can enjoy 1 and 2. 3 is just okay, but we know it wasn't Raimi's fault, it was the studio's fault.
This movie felt like a big moment when it came out. It felt like the dawn of a new era for blockbusters and cinema in general. I love this movie. It feels weighty too - like an actual, solid piece of filmmaking. My problem with the new Spider-Man films, is that they're way too lightweight and throwaway.
Yeah, I think the new spiderman films are good, but I think the oversaturation of comic movies is a part of the reason why they don't feel... epic. I think another reason is because it's a coming of age spiderman trilogy. In theory, the next one should be the most grand yet, of the new trilogy at least.
Yeah I feel like the new movies just feel too kiddish like they are trying to cater more towards the younger generation. The stakes don’t really feel like they are there they don’t feel anywhere near as serious as the original films.
You're 100% correct about the movie being a big deal when it came out, and how it felt like a new age of movies. I think a lot of people who either weren't alive or were very young when it came out don't really grasp just how much of a pop-culture behemoth this movie was. I vividly remember the build-up to this movie, and it was *everywhere.* It wasn't a movie... it was an event. It felt bigger than even the biggest current films. I swear, I feel like I saw more hype and coverage back in 2002 over _Spider-Man_ than I saw in 2019 with _Endgame._

2000s is the best decade for superhero movies imo. The Dark Knight and Spider-Man 2 fucks the entire MCU/DCEU in the ass very hard, with TDK being one of the best movies of all time.
I don't care that Mary Jane was often in distress. Kirsten brought so much vulnerability to her that she made me care about the character. Also, her chemistry with Tobey was perfect as they were dating during shooting.
I hated the fact that there were no consequences. We pretty much knew she was never in any real danger and Spider-man and a little plot armor would save her.
@@ImQuirkless Just saw this question. Sorry about that. :) Kirsten Dunst briefly dated Tobey Mcguire during the shooting of the first film. She then dated Jake Gyllenhaal (who was rumoured to take over the role of Peter Parker as Tobey had serious back problems at the time). However, Kirsten Dunst said that she didn't feel comfortable working with Jake in Spider-Man 2 and Tobey recovered anyway and reprised the role. Also, James Franco had a huge crush on Kirsten during the shooting of the first film which caused tensions on set.

You’ll often hear Burton fanboys claim that without Batman, Nolan’s trilogy wouldn’t exist (even though Nolan never once cited Burton as inspiration). But Spider-Man is the movie that turned comic book movies into cultural movements.
I'm an Indian so let me give a foreigner's perspective. The Spider-man movies were what put super-heroes on the map. Unless you belonged to a wealthy upper class family in India you did not watch Super-man and Batman films when they came out in the 20th century. Those who did watch them liked them. But they weren't the majority. Because most people did not watch English movies. However the Spider-man films came out when more people started watching English movies. Seems like that’s what Sam Raimi wanted. Take the entire black simbiote out of the equation. It really feels like it’s Peter Parker trying to control his ego and not losing sight what is important in life. It’s not about success or fame but doing what’s right.
Still better than Andrew Garfield films and the spiderman films we have had since. I don't like spiderman as iron man jr.
Fave J Jonah Jameson line has to be when Peter calls him out for slandering Spider-Man and his response was “I resent that. Slander is spoken. In print, it’s libel.”

I feel almost none of these things from the more recent Spider-Man movies and it's so disappointing because I love Spider-Man and it really sucks watching a Spider-Man movie and feeling almost nothing. Yeah I miss the visceral and realistic aspect of it. Like you can really feel the stakes and that peter was really fighting for his life.

I hated the fact that there were no consequences. We pretty much knew she was never in any real danger and Spider-man and a little plot armor would save her.

Kirsten Dunst briefly dated Tobey Mcguire during the shooting of the first film.

I was a kid and until watching this movie I had never heard of Spider-Man or any other superhero. After watching it I went nuts and kept drawing Spider-Man all the time. I had never seen a comic-book. I loved the first Spider-Man movie and for a while I kept putting random spiders on my hands with hope of them biting me and giving me powers. 😂😂
This is the movie that made me the obsessive Spider-Man fan that I am today.
Dude, youre giving me mad nostalgia from the good ol' projectionist days!
Spider-Man: Exists
1 Year Old Me: 🤯
Spider-Man: Still Exists
Adult me: 🤯
Nah, mcu made me hate spider-man
@@znjjnj1853 I'm talking about the first movie, specifically.
I think the '90's cheese' is more about the movie being a more of a 'comic book' movie and not a 'superhero' movie.
Seeing Spidey swing through New York at the end as a 13 year old kid for the first time caused the most satisfying chills I’d ever felt at that point.
2020: Jeremy “can grow a helluva beard” Jahns
I've not been on Jeremy's channel for a while, is Jeremy auditioning for a Wolverine reboot?
I heard he got the part 😉
You’ll often hear Burton fanboys claim that without Batman, Nolan’s trilogy wouldn’t exist (even though Nolan never once cited Burton as inspiration). But Spider-Man is the movie that turned comic book movies into cultural movements.
Fact...
That’s pretty accurate
This movie is reason why i love superhero movies
Spider-man and X-men are what resurrected superhero movies after Batman and Robin annihilated them.
They reached a larger audience. And they made the concept of super-heroes common place and made other super-heroes better known.
So you're right that Sam Raimi's films made Superheroes more popular.
Those who
Just saw it yesturday again. Proabably haven’t seen it for about a decade and I didn’t forget a single second of what goes down, it gave me such nostalgia and is just as exciting as when I was a kid.
This movie trilogy will forever be legendary and iconic and forever better than any other Spider-Man movie and any negative comment against this movie is irrelevant and not true.
Editors Cut of Spiderman 3 is much better than the normal 3.
It's ok at best
I am not stoned Tom the Fish didn’t say anything negative about the movie Yk that right ?
I only hear Nickleback when watching this movie.
bbr64 bbr64 I should give you a dislike for this comment but it got me laughing so you win this round.
Agreed!
A hero can save us.
I'm not gonna stand here and waaaaaaaiiiiiit
Say what you want, but that song is dope. I unashamedly like it too this day. 😁
Adrian Estrada Without a doubt Nickleback has some good songs.
Do my eyes deceive me or is Jeremy finally reviewing the rami spider-man movies.
That TRAILER!!! I thought I dreamed that or made it up in my mind because I remembered being blown away by it because of how amazing it was, but then never saw it again!!!
But you just proved it was REAL!! And showed it !!!!!!!!!
I just about cried!!!!!! Jermy Jahns
No films have had a bigger impact on me as a person. Call them campy, cheesy, or goofy, they are! But fundamentally these movies are about morality, choice, and responsibility. These films have so many examples of kindness and compassion and genuinely have encouraged me to be a better person.
FACTS.
Spider-Man Moral of The Story: Life sucks and you are forever doomed no matter what so take responsibility even when people are giving you a hard time and treating you like dirt when it isn't your fault and they expect you to take the responsibility. "Inspite of everything you've done for them eventually they will hate you". Plus Norman Osborn will prosper no matter what so you're doomed forever in the comics Spider-Man.
Also according to HiTop Films, if you don't have a normal kids bedroom like Spider-Man with cool nerdy posters everywhere, you're not human, not normal, and a loser. He said that in his Spider-Man 1 Video Essay
@@Seasonal-Shadow_4674 Moral of the story is Life does suck, but that's okay!! It's true some people have to work harder than others, but don't pray for an easy life, pray for the strength to endure a difficult one.
I wish I could like this comment more than once. It's so true! With all the newer superhero movies getting so morally gray, it's nice to look back at a superhero who never wavered in his commitment to doing the right thing.
@@TH3F4LC0Nx Thank you!!
Jeremy mentions this moment, but its a gem in the movie.
At the site of the burning building, the officers approach in a hurry, "Hold it right there, we're taking you in!" Upon hearing a "Woman" screaming, without hesitation, Peter turns to the man who would have arrested him and tell him "I'm going" without much more than a second thought, he's ready to put his life on the line in service of others. Similar to what good cops to, and you have to imagine the Police officer knew that as well. The Cop needed a moment to think, "I'll be here when you get back" Clearly a man following his orders, and doing what he's told to preserve the law. "I'm not coming back, Chief" Gotta Love Tobey's witty remark, while also staying true to his heroic ideals. I used to interpret this as Peter didn't know what'd happen if he went back inside that burning building, and there's a chance he might go in there and never come out.
Clearly, the Cop knew in his heart, that his duty was to people and running out of time he has to make a decision but quickly tells Peter, "Go, GO!" Peter lifts himself into the air before catapulting himself into the flaming window.
The small moments of genuine heroism, something inspirational, and gives you faith in people. That's what its all about, man
“Who’s gonna stop us now???”
“Batman”

Tobey Maguire As Spider Man or not, It will always be Pizza Time in The Marvel Universe.
The first time in my life I ever felt anything like hype was at the end of the second film, where Harry begins to break, and hears the ghost of his father in his head, smashes the mirror and discoveres all the hidden goblin tech. I still get goosebumps from how good that scene was.
yeah I remember seeing spiderman 2 in cinema and seeing that scene was epic af
