We’re all controlled by rent and taxes pretty much 😞 that’s why we want to strike gold, maybe we can escape the vicious cycle.

to be honest for a game or mobile app i enjoy have 2 branches.
purchased game and free version, player gets to choose.
if you wanna play free you can; however, there will be ads etc. and unlocking things will require ad views overtime.
if you buy the game in full, no ads and you play the game to unlock things. no pay walls since you bought the game. no special currency
It depends on a game. If it is casual or hyper casual, market shows that this strategy works/is correct. But what if it is normal game which takes months/years to develop and polish?! The game which goal is not simple shut brain for a minute or two fun, but gives player the rich story and immersion (there are good number of great games on mobile). Having free version which has Ads in that kind of game would Kill anything close to enjoyment, which would kill the game. The solution is to show/make Free Demo, which has a level or two and afterwards ask for buying full game. But having decided how many to make free to hook the player is another challange in itself. And even this strategy needs correct marketing or people will start complaying about this, too.

If I were a developer, and someone asked me this after years of hard thought and work, here's what I'd do:
1. Make a website that seems like it's ment to pirate your game specifically
2. Actually have a download of your game
3. The game is just a nalnk screen that says: "you thought you can actually get this for free"?
