I just purchased the A7C. Bought the 35 & 50mm lenses. Just about to pull the trigger on the 85/1.8. Professor Henie’s recommends this lens for street photography. This lens is performant enough for me. The major factor for me is size. It fits well on the A7C. The 1.4 is a bigger and heavier piece of glass. For me, good enough is good enough. Dude, that unboxing and intro was so sick and creative!!!🤩🤯👍 Amazing video as always! I got myself a vintage Canon FD 85mm to try out this focal length, but still have difficulties to make it work. But reason is definitely because of my beginner level 😅
Hey ... you sure have grown for the 20K subs you mentioned at the start of this video! I just received this lens last night and love it! Found a sale where it was under $500, and grabbed it
Great stuff Joris! (even though I shoot Canon!) Also let me congratulate you on the 20K, AWESOME! From mostly sunny, warming up & still relatively locked down Ireland! ☘️☮️🤘🏽🤠👍🏽☮️☘️
I really should visit Ireland one day... seems like such an intriguing country. The only taste of Ireland I've ever had is Bushmills... which I do like 😅💥
Thanks Joris for this new interesting video. It's a full-frame lens, isn't it? Can the Canon 50mm be considered an equivalent lens for cropped sensors (like my m50 for example)?
Weird 🤔 My analytics says views from notifications are normal. I wonder if it leaves out people... are you a Canon or Sony shooter... not that it should matter for notifications but who knows...
@@JorisHermans That's good to hear, maybe it's just me! I double checked all my notification settings and everything looks fine, so fingers crossed. I shoot Canon M50 now, but just switched from a Nikon D5300.
Tge equivalent for the Canon M50 is probably the nifty fifty at almsot 80mm when adjusting for crop. Sadly, I still have no use for it since I shoot at home mostly... I should probably just go outside and try it out there :)
Very nice, I’m looking at the Sony A7 3. Have you used it and what do you think of it for video. It’s between this and the canon eos r but don’t like the crop on the canon 🤷🏽♂️
@@JorisHermans it depends on the price, I’m using canon and would probably be better with the r6 but it’s a bit out of my reach at the minute. Might just have to wait a while longer 🤦🏼♂️
Hello, I have a question, please I have this lens, but I have trouble taking sharp pictures when I shoot in the vertical position, in the horizontal position I don't have any problem, the pictures come out sharp even with a shutter that is not very fast, but even with a very fast shutter and steady hand, they don't appear sharp in the vertical pictures, can you give us your impression about this? thank you
Great video as usual!! Would you recommend this one over the 50mm 2.5G for video? I've been going in circles because of the autofocus. Any input would be highly appreciated!
It depends on what you want to do with it. I only use the 85 in specific situations. Looks great but not for everything. The 50 is more of an all-rounder.
@@JorisHermans I forgot to add context for this, I already bought the 24mm and am also worried about the autofocus capabilities in comparison with maybe the newer tokina version or the new native 50 from sony (lots of event video where I cant plan focusing and stuff).. thanks for your help!!
Thanks for the good video. Although your gimbal orbit shot looks great, unless you have a very wide area and auto tracking creating this with smooth movement and keeping the object centered will not be easy. I already find this quite challenging at 35mm using my RSC2 without a Raveneye.
This has been my favorite lens. It is hugely underrated. A7C + 85f18 is a badass combination.
💯🔥
You will get 20k very soon. You deserve more subs. Best wishes.

That intro though... 🤤 Awesome video Joris! Creeping up on 20k!!! You deserve it so much!

Always trying to add something extra to my reviews... this intro was a lot of fun to make 😊💥
Brilliant Joris, thanks for the lens advise and nearly 20K subscribers, wow weldone.
Loved the way you explained techinically, to the point and in depth and also in less than 6 min💐👍🏻
Just picked up one ☝️ along with the 20 1.8. Just an insane combo of primes. Oh how far lenses have come at this price point on e-mount.
Yep, no need to spend a ton of cash anymore... love it! Great glass, great results 👊🏻💥
As of yesterday, I have this exact same pair! I might think of something in between, but I'll see how just these two go.
thank you so much Joris for the review !! just sold my Sigma art 135 1.8 weighted like a dead horse lol, to buy this 85.

Small question, what would you use as an equivalent lense on the Canon M50?
50mm! Nifty Fifty! 👌🏻💥

Cant believe I just pick this lens for USD277 only. Definitely gonna be my everyday lens for the time being.
Amazing lens!! Small, light weight and good quality!!! I just sold mind to exchange for a 90mm F2.8 Macro which hasn't arrive yet..
nice pictures and great color 😍

Great vid. Would you recommend this on a Sony A6400? The non stabilization is putting me off. Thanks in advance.
On gimbal only

There is indeed most definitely a learning curve. It takes me usually at least 10 tries to get one good shot 🥵💥
@@JorisHermans luckily your model has more patience than my wife and kids. ;-)
On Saturday I picked up the sigma art 85mm! So far so good!
I remember my Sigma 35mm Art. That thing was razor sharp! To the point where I had to soften the image a bit sometimes 😅 Good stuff, Sigma 👌🏻
I just got a Sony. What stands for full frame, the e or the f?

How's manual focus for this lens?
If I don't have a camera with stabilization, I will have problems with my photos ??? Or it doesn't matter ??
will you recommend this for product photography?
No, because it’s not a macro lens so you won’t be able to go close to small products.
@@JorisHermans so what lens would you recommend for product shoots?
Also should i go for zoom or stick with primes only?
When I still posted on Instagram, this lens made people think quite a few times I was using an insanely expensive camera 😅
Can you zoom with that len. I heard prime len cant zoom in?
No zooming
You will get 120k soon.
What about product photography?
It's not a macro so not ideal for smaller products.
@@JorisHermans How many feet did you have to get back to shoot a full body couple?
I have my eyes on this one. Half the price of the new Sigma
Why doesn’t it have a lens stabilization
Or a clicky aperture ring.
