Jessie paralyzed with absolute fear at the trauma of watching Tuco beat a man to death while Walter calmly calculates the potential profit arising from their business partnership really just encapsulates the dynamic the two have for the entire series.
I wouldn't say Walt was calm as much as that is his way with immediately coping to a situation. Applying logic and calculation as quickly as possible in attempt to ignore how the trauma he just witnessed makes him feel.
I read that scene different: that Walt was calculating how soon he could make what he needed so that he wouldn't have to deal with Tuco again. Previously, he got off on the power he thought he wielded, but now he realized he was in over his head. This is also reflected in the scene with Skyler against the fridge; he thought he was the ish the first time, but now he's lost the confidence.
Yeah it’s really curious. I mean I get it, but he’s just so energetic in the role, you wouldn’t think that he actually didn’t enjoy playing it. Speaks to him as an actor
I remember reading somewhere that his wife said she started getting a little scared of him after seeing his performance as Tuco, or something to that affect
Yeah honestly GOT was the same for me and I fell in love with both shows after their first 3 seasons, and then they gave us seasons 7 and 8💀 Other shows I can think of that got better as they went on were probably AOS and POI. Bojack Horseman and Curb too. Obviously BCS is another example but I think that's a given and doesn't need mentioning.
I think season 1 is better than 2 and season 4 is better than 5, but there's not a single bad episode, let alone season, in the whole series and that's awesome
James, we need to find a way to extend this to two episodes a week my guy. Your reactions and analysis are top notch. So much so that once a week isnt fulfilling enough. Pretty sure others would agree lol.
Funny you said that "I know that guy loved playing that role" (Tuco) when actually the actor hated the character saying he had to channel the horrors he saw growing up in East LA and that it really took a toll on him to the point he didn't think he could do it anymore.
3:25 “This dude is unhinged. He will kill you if you put pickles on his burger and, and he-if he told you not to…put them…on there man like he will…he will end you!” I couldn’t describe Tuco better
The first season was actually cut short due to a writers strike at the time, which ended up being a good thing because it allowed the show to steer away from it's original plans of having Jesse killed in season one
James I just want you to not take for granted this superpower you have right now. You're able to watch Breaking Bad for the first time, something millions of people wish they could do. Enjoy the ride while it lasts, man.
I'm glad James recognized the 737 line from Cranston that matched with the title of the episode. He's gonna love this season, and he will be hooked in deep.
According to the actor who played Tuco, he really disliked the roll. He used to be affiliated with gangs IRL, and it brought back some memories for him keeping up the believable intensity it takes to play a character. like Tuco.
Can’t wait for the next episode. It’s the best in the series up until this point. Of course, as you’ve heard, it only gets better, but is a phenomenal episode nonetheless.
Love your vibes, love your commentary, thanks for putting out so much dope content for us for free here on RUclips. Nothing but love man. Good luck on 150K!
You guys who watched this show week to week and season to season, have my sympathy with the cliff hangers. I was able to binge the whole show and caught up as the final episodes aired. Best tv show ever made because of the character arc of Walter.
All this talk about Far Cry and all I'm thinking is you're gonna yell when you get to Better Call Saul. :D This season of Breaking Bad is amazing and it introduces some of the all time great characters.
Season 1 got cut short which is why it's only 7 episodes. Fun Fact: If the season went for the full length, Jesse was going to be killed off, let's be happy that didn't happen. I can't imagine this show without Jesse
Tuco plays a detective on a really really good series I loved called The Closer. It’s a great show worth watching. You’ll see a lot of familiar faces. You’ll get hooked
I haven't seen the first half of season two but everytime you review an episode, I keeping thinking "wow, the treats that are in store for you" and you get to watch it for the first time. By the end of the final series though...this show leaves you emotionally scared. Walter now has that photo of the murder scene on his phone, be awkward if Tuco sees it eeeesh.
When you said the methlamine heist reminded you of a GTA V mission, I think you nailed it. I already giggled internally remembering Hank's commentary to the CCTV footage. Unfortunately it got cut here. XD "It's a BARREL. It can ROLL you morons." Given how smart Walther usually is, they acted very GTA-esque with adorably funny stupidity on that part. Great comedy value though with the tied up outhouse.
The early stages of the show really emphasize on that whole "a non-criminal's idea of how crime works" concept Jesse pointed out with the choice of location for transaction. Walther is still so naive and somewhat innocent in his approaches to things.
I'm a little ahead now cause once I start this show I can't stop. Even as someone who has already seen it. But I'm loving your reactions man. Awesome video. And I love the four episodes that have connected titles. The intro and those will make sense once you finish season 2.
It makes you wonder if the developers at Ubisoft were such big fans of the show that they modeled the Vaas charcter after Tuco because they loved him so much since breaking bad came out 4 years before the release of Far Cry 3. Also Raymond Cruz the actor that played Tuco almost didn't come back to Better call Sual to reprize his role as Tuco because he said it was such a hard a demanding charcter. because he is so far removed from the way Raymond Cruz is in real life. So he actually found the role of Tuco very demanding.
Great reaction. There is such a cool detail in this episode but unfortunately, I can’t reveal it due to spoilers lol. I can’t wait to see your reaction to Grilled most underrated episode in the show in my opinion.
During the first season there was a writer strike so they only had 7 episodes. Episodes 1 and 2 of season 2 were originally meant to be the finale episodes of season one.
Wait til he sees Nacho.... I never thought about it, but I'm wondering if they meant to illustrate just how pure Walt's blue meth is by having Tuco inform the plot by way of his drug addled craziness.
The guy who plays Tuco Salamanca (Raymond Cruz) was in the TV show The Closer. TIL, he is slightly older than I am. He's 61. I think I look fairly decent for my age at 59, and that dude is out there rocking his 61 year old self looking that bad-ass. Man makes look like a fool. I now have a bad case of "I wish".
Btw, Ronald Cruz didn't like playing Tuco, this is a known fact) Was too tight and crazy for him, so crazy that it made him go crazy tu, so Vince killed him much earlier than needed.
I know this is probably late, but the reason there were so few episodes was because at the time they were writing, a writer’s strike was going on. Before that you had shows that would come out with between 20-30 episodes per season. X-files is an example. (Vince Gillian wrote for that show. Also the actors that play walter Jessie, and Hank all appeared on that show.) Now the X-files is a great show, but because it has so many episodes some of them were hit or miss. (Most of them were hits lol) Because breaking bad had fewer episodes, coupled with the fact that the writer’s strike ended in the writers’ favor, you had top notch quality content. So even though there are less episodes they pack a huge punch. Breaking Bad is the show that made TV shows compete with the movies in how they are able to provide compelling storylines. It was truly groundbreaking.
Something I never really thought of is that Walt and Jesse see the immediate effect their product has on Tuco and it immediately causes or adds to a death.
I hate her too and I thought about it for ages because I'm not a misogynist or anything. The reason why she's hated IMO is because of poor writing. Now before you get defensive hear me out. Even the show runners have admitted they have problems writing female characters! Anyway the problem with Skyler is that she's a reactive character. She doesn't really have a goal of her own, she doesn't have a quest to complete, she just reacts to everything that happens to her. Compare her to the wife in House of Cards. She has her own goals she's trying to complete that are separate from her husband. She's an active character who does things. Skyler is just sort of coasting through the show reacting to everything that happens and it makes her sort of infuriating. If I could go back in time and change anything about Breaking Bad it would be to give her something to do. I don't know... maybe she's trying to be president of the school board or she's a romance novelist who is trying to write the next big hit or she's a TV news anchor, SOMETHING.
@@vashsunglasses Exactly what sort of quest should a pregnant woman with a dying husband have in order to be a better character? If you were locked in with both of these circumstances, I don't think you'd have the will to go for a president of the school board.
