I think some of the conversation around Breaking Bad was weird when it was coming out because there seemed to be a lot of people who just wanted to see Walt do increasingly bad stuff and hated that Skyler stood in the way of his power fantasy. But that's what her character is all about - showing how Walt's power fantasy exists in service to his family while also hurting them.

When the first season was going to be 9 episodes, that was the plan. The writer's strike cut the season short two episodes and they had an opportunity to change their minds about Jesse as a character.

There is a group of Skyler haters who loudly voice their opinions under each video, but they are not representative of Breaking Bad fans. Skyler is a well-written and completely understandable character.
I mean, I think there is a middle road to be taken here. She isn't a "bad" character by any stretch, but (at least thus far), she's a little "one note," even boring. At annoying as Marie is, her kleptomania is spicy & makes her a more interesting character to follow. You can draw parallels between her & Walt each getting thrills from dipping into crime. They are kindred spirits in that way. I guess with Skylar it feels like "what you see is what you get," & there's no deeper character to explore rn. Marie's not even a great example to compare Skylar to. How about Kim from Better Call Saul? I won't spoil anything, don't worry, but those of you who know what I'm talking about know that she to this day is well liked by most fans & for good reason: she's more active, more complex, etc.
They are representative of parts of the BB fans. Don't gatekeep. @@NateS917 If you want a mindless action show with unrealistic characters with no depth or social connections, Braking Bad just isn't for you. The story and characters - and that includes Skyler - are written exactly as the creators intended. Walter could have made the decision to divorce her and become a drug lord in the very first episode. But he didn't, and so he holds himself back. Blaming Skyler for that is pretty irrational.
I'll say this much. A lot more interesting conversations can be had in the comments, once we reach the series finale. This show is ever changing and always keeps you guessing. It's hard to discuss it, knowing all the finer points from the future seasons, without getting into spoiler territory. But I'll say this much: It's one hell of a show to rewatch. Like you can leave it for a while, then return to it, and it doesn't matter that you know what's going to happen. There will be layers upon layers of stuff to pick up on multiple viewings. I have watched it 3 times, and every time I had a different experience.

Season 1 was actually planned to be longer than just 7 episodes, but then the writers strike happened and basically ended the season early. Apparently the original plan was to have Jesse die at the end of the season, so thank god for that strike
3:54 man Anna Gunn is a fantastic actress. Look at her face, she nailed the "awkward but excited" expression. I don't even know how to explain it. People are focused hating her character and forget how much of a beast she is. And S1 is her least impressive season.
I actually always liked Skyler. Sometimes she would be annoying but she is also super relatable at times as well. Great reaction. It's been so fun rewatching this through your channel.
Fun fact: the actor who played Tuco used to legit be part of a gang, selling drugs, doing bad shit. He quit that life, and got into acting, which is how he landed in Breaking Bad. Playing Tuco was actually really hard on the actor, cuz he said it reminded him, and his wife of his past life. Another Fun fact: IRL he's a bomb ass cook. That's his side passion
Raymond Cruz plays Tuco. Apparently he's a genuinely nice and sweet man who loves to read and be in his garden. His wife did not like his character and it genuinely scared her to see him play this character
The thing I love about this show is that, due to excellent writing, every character makes you hate or at least dislike them at some point (except the kids and some very minor characters). I am always in Jesse’s corner though. He could crash at my house any time lol
"I think this is where the entity that sells drugs is now confronting his wife." What an incredible perception of that scene!! Absolutely, there are moments where Walter is in the backseat of the car, and his alter ego(Heisenberg) takes the driver's seat. I LOVE your take on that particular scene. Most people don't catch little moments like that, that are important to the character development. Bravo dude! You rock! 👏👏
makes sense season 1 walt feels like he needs him to get into the drug world and jesse sees walt as a meal ticket as well as remember how passionate he was about teaching science and jessie had him in the class he prob remembers him still as a goofy teacher who was at the point a good dude.
Breaking Bad is really filled with wonderful and notable character that are all well written. For me, Jesse Pinkman is maybe THE character of all time. I've loved him and his arc for the better part of a decade and I can't really think of another character that comes close.
The guy who plays Taco, Raymond Cruz, does the badass bit really well. The Tom Clancy movie Clear and Present Danger is worth watching just to see the character Chavez from the novel brought to life by his performance.
He's also a shell shocked Starfleet Officer in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine in one of its darkest and grittiest episodes. Its intense seeing someone who we know was probably a well adjusted, calm and professional explorer has been turned into a broken soldier because of the experiences he suffered in a relatively short time. Intense acting, always. And he's so good at those roles that he had to give up acting for a while after playing Tuco because it was scaring his wife so much when she saw it.
Hands down, Jesse. His journey through this series is amazing. I know you'll love him more and more as the show progresses. He's my favorite character from the Breaking Bad universe, alongside another character in Better Call Saul that is almost his exact replica, but with some variations ♥️ You'll know when you get there

I'm enjoying this series reaction so much.. Two tv shows i strongly recommend especially for your apreciacion of the way they use the camera to tell a story, ''Severance'' and ''Barry''.
@JamesVsCinema I love that you keep comparing Tuco to Vaas Montenegro from FAR CRY 3! It's so ironic you are saying that! You have no idea how ironic it will be in this show and Better Call Saul!
I love jessie he really has the funniest lines throughout the whole story, also you got it dead on that walt is getting addicted to this lifestyle. im glad your pointing that out, most people stay in denial about his true intentions for cooking but its show early on how he truly feels after something goes his way, no matter what the consequence is (i love how YT wouldnt let you put the tuco beating in so you put it at the beginning as the preview lmao fuck YT)
I'm glad you noticed Walt's manipulation of Jesse when Jesse is trying to just move away to Oregon with what he's saved thus far and Walter is working him so that he'll stay and cook meth with him. Some people get so invested in Walt's journey they don't realize how fucked up this is.
It's funny you said Tuco is like a Far Cry villain. One of the best characters from the prequel show is played by the guy who did the voice acting/mocap for Vaas in Far Cry 3.
The guy who played Tuco, Raymond Cruz, said it was extremely hard to get into that role: ""There’s nothing fun about it. It’s a great character, but to try to pull it off is really difficult. It’s really high-energy. It’s relentless. It’s very physical and it wears you out. You get very drained," said Cruz.
When I look at the violence in this entire series it has a purpose and it's not overdone, it feels real and deeply emotional because we're totally invested in long character buliding. As opposed to Tarantino's approach to violence which is border line horror film. Tarantino's violence is entertainment vengeance rather than deeply and emotionally invested in the character. You don't expect the violence in BB, as you would with other films and series. The Coen Brothers also get you deeply invested and drop these unexpected scenes of violence in you that's a shock and surprise.
You haven’t seen anything until you see Giancarlo Esposito in season 4 premier box cutter. It might be my favorite performance of any character in tv history. He is on screen almost 10 minutes before he says his first words.
Jesse is amazing. I grew to love him more and more each episode. You can tell he’s got a good heart. Doesn’t always make great decisions but a good guy 💜
What occurs to me is how this show brought up major dramatic issues and then resolved them in the same show. Skyler finding out her sister is a klepto, then confronting her in the same show. Walter having to find a new way to make meth, then accomplishing that. A lot of dramas will bring up a dramatic issue and then tease it, leave a cliff-hanger at the end, so you'll tune in next show to see the resolution. But this show has such a wealth of dramatic moments, they don't need to cliff-hang you like that. I'm not saying there are no cliff-hangers, no longer dramatic issues that they tease out over many shows or a whole season, but at the same time there are really MAJOR dramatic issues that, for any other show they'd be the meat. here they are just the gravy and they can dole them out generously. I think every show does that, they dole out dramatic conflicts you did not even know were going to come up at the start of that episode, and then they often resolve them in the same episode because there are even bigger dramatic arcs at play so they don't need to use them as cliff-hangers to keep you coming back.
For me, the end of this season marks the beginning for a straight uphill climb until the finale. Each season after this one gets better and better in terms of the story developments, character motivations, heightened tension that doesn't stop, lessons and subtleties that grow with the progression, the list can go on. You've gotten a taste for BB, get ready to be handed the next 4 course meal! Great commentary as always James, super happy I found your channel. Love the relaxed feeling I get with each video you commentate on
I didn't catch it the first time I watched this episode years ago, because I assumed the ending was to show how unhinged Tuco is, but I think it really wasn't about the perceived disrespect but more of a warning to Walter and Jessie as to who they're dealing with.
I personally love skyler, shes a sweetheart stuck in a very, very bad position. I think the people who hate her arent rly seeing the whole point of the show and see Walter as the ’hero’ of the story, when hes actually his own villain in a sense.
Also, this is my fav show ever and, without spoiling anything because I want you to realize it for yourself, one of the best things about the show is the evolution of the relationship between Walt and Jesse in different aspects, you'll understand as you move forward into the next seasons!! Just keep that in mind and you'll thank me later :)
Amazing reaction and I really fw the new studio wallpaper you have such an amazing balance between fun and cinematic takes watching these the second they come out! All I could ask is that you made the episodes a little longer typically people make they’re BREAKING BAD/ Better call saul reactions about 30 - 35 mins these shows focus a TON on rewarding the viewer for paying attention a LOT of dialogue is hidden in the film making. keep up the awesome work.
The tone which everyone talks about Hugo is so tough to hear. "How did he get hired in the first place?" He was a good guy and got arrested because he likes to smoke sometimes when he's not cleaning up puke and dirt and shit. Walter's most unforgivable act lol
Bro, this is my favorite show of all time. I’ve literally watched every season like 4 times, seeing you react to it is pretty dope. 👍🏼🔥and trust me it’s only gets better and better.
Not sure if you are going to see this but I just subscribed! I can’t wait to watch the rest of your reactions. I love how you analyze what you are watching.
I'm glad you're on the Skyler appreciation train! I'm not a huge fan of her but the hate for her is ridiculous so I like when people are able to look at her character with a much more level-headed perspective because she is a complex character like all the rest.
So excited you're diving into this show. I'm a movie guy through and through, but Breaking Bad stole my heart when I watched through it with my brother. So well done in every way. Every season is fantastic, too!
9:52 the first of many manipulative speeches that shouldn't work on anyone but somehow work on Jesse. It's incredible throughout the series to see how much he believes in Walt, he just keeps on feeding him goofy speech after goofy speech to hype him up and use him for something else.
This show changes throughout the seasons. (like chemistry) You'll laugh a lot in the first 2 seasons, and by the end of Season 4, you'll be on the edge of your seat. By the end of season 5, you'll be calling Bryan Cranston one of the best actors of all time.
Jesse is the soul of the show. If it wasn't for that writer's guild strike, he would've been killed off in the first season. It still messes with my mind to this day, completely different show without him.
I just restarted season 2. The ride only gets better from here man. Loving your reactions. This is when the gas pedal gets floored so to speak in the show.
I missed the whole BB hype when it first started until the last season I started to watch it. I binged all the seasons watching 3 eps a night until I caught up just as the finale aired. Sopranos was my number 1, Breaking Bad is now my number one show, simply because the epic evolution of Walters character.
Walt gave his cancer to Jesse. The more I watch this show the more I realize that's the whole plot of the series. He took Jesse and made him his scapegoat.
In my opinion, Breaking bad is arguably the best show of all time, given that every single episode is an absolute hit. It's a show of masterful cinematography and unparalleled character chemistry that genuinely could not be done better even if it tried. You're in for a treat for sure
Episode 5: Hits you in all the feels Episode 6: All the thrills Episode 7: Hilarious This show is a goddamn clinic on how to showcase the range of the talent at work on this show, both in front of and behind the camera.
Love these man. You're in a for a hell of a ride... My favourite episode is Season 4 Ep 11 'Crawl Space', or should I say the closing scene of that episode. Quite possibly my favourite moment in TV history. Something I think you'll appreciate quite a bit. The viewers know what I'm talking about... 😉🤫
I don't get the hate on skylar either...she pregnant, hormonal, & is completely unaware that her husband has broke bad killed 2 people, & is selling meth.
This was the last show, before the writers strike. During that strike. Vince Gilligan decided to take the show in a different direction, We have the breaking bad we love today, he originally was gonna kill Jesse off in the 1st season

I think every show does that, they dole out dramatic conflicts you did not even know were going to come up at the start of that episode, and then they often resolve them in the same episode because there are even bigger dramatic arcs at play so they don't need to use them as cliff-hangers to keep you coming back.
the ending of this video was phenomenal bro cuz we all know what happens and i could visualize it without even seeing a video clip!
Love the relaxed feeling I get with each video you commentate on
The part RUclips wouldn't let you show, dude just seeing you wince was hysterical! Thank you James :) I'll bet you love all of these episodes.
Now we are getting into my favorite season
Bro coming home after a 12 hour work shift and seeing you have uploaded just makes my day so much better. Much love
Tuco is one of my favorite characters. Raymond Cruz knocks it out of the park every time! And he's so intelligent and understated in interviews. LOL!!
I didn't catch it the first time I watched this episode years ago, because I assumed the ending was to show how unhinged Tuco is, but I think it really wasn't about the perceived disrespect but more of a warning to Walter and Jessie as to who they're dealing with.
That's the way I took it as well. Like, if this is what I will do to one of mine, just think of what I will do to you if you cross me.
Tucos necklace is a pair of boxing gloves because he is a boxer which is why he is so dangerous to get in a fist fight with.
tuco's necklace is (I think) a pair of boxing gloves, impying he's a former boxer
I personally love skyler, shes a sweetheart stuck in a very, very bad position. I think the people who hate her arent rly seeing the whole point of the show and see Walter as the ’hero’ of the story, when hes actually his own villain in a sense.
"The entity that sells drugs"... It's name is Heisenberg.
One thing you will learn with this show is that every character goes through a lot of changes as the seasons progress. :)
Jesse and Walt are perfect together, the best part about this show is that it just keeps getting better and better throughout the seasons.
The tone which everyone talks about Hugo is so tough to hear. "How did he get hired in the first place?" He was a good guy and got arrested because he likes to smoke sometimes when he's not cleaning up puke and dirt and shit. Walter's most unforgivable act lol
So happy watching you have a great time with B.B.
Best show deserves the best reaction channel and that’s you James.
This conversation with Hank talking about pot being legal is so much more satisfying now that New Mexico is a green state.
Same
I'm glad you're on the Skyler appreciation train! I'm not a huge fan of her but the hate for her is ridiculous so I like when people are able to look at her character with a much more level-headed perspective because she is a complex character like all the rest.
Yes, we have seasons of this, and it's just getting better :D
So excited you're diving into this show. I'm a movie guy through and through, but Breaking Bad stole my heart when I watched through it with my brother. So well done in every way. Every season is fantastic, too!
Gotta wait for Better Call Saul to find out about the "balls around his neck". Lol
9:52 the first of many manipulative speeches that shouldn't work on anyone but somehow work on Jesse. It's incredible throughout the series to see how much he believes in Walt, he just keeps on feeding him goofy speech after goofy speech to hype him up and use him for something else.
New set looks great! Looks like things are working great with you, so glad you’re able to do support yourself with what you love
This show changes throughout the seasons. (like chemistry) You'll laugh a lot in the first 2 seasons, and by the end of Season 4, you'll be on the edge of your seat. By the end of season 5, you'll be calling Bryan Cranston one of the best actors of all time.
If this is all the got , your in the wrong store. Cracks me up every time. Enjoy the ride
" I can't believe we have seasons ov this??!!!!" Whaaaaaatttt!!!! Dope reaction fam!!!
Tuoco's necklace is golden gloves. He's an expert boxer.
so hyped to see you continue
you might want to watch the edited vid of Tuco snorting Thanos's infinity stones
LMAO I've not watched Breaking Bad since its initial airing and that "Dank store room", "This is my office" got me. Didn't remember it at all.
Walt gave his cancer to Jesse. The more I watch this show the more I realize that's the whole plot of the series. He took Jesse and made him his scapegoat.
Studio looking dope!!
In my opinion, Breaking bad is arguably the best show of all time, given that every single episode is an absolute hit. It's a show of masterful cinematography and unparalleled character chemistry that genuinely could not be done better even if it tried. You're in for a treat for sure
Tuco has two boxing gloves as jewlery.
I love watching along with you and seeing you get to experience BrBa for this first time
Episode 5: Hits you in all the feels
Episode 6: All the thrills
Episode 7: Hilarious
This show is a goddamn clinic on how to showcase the range of the talent at work on this show, both in front of and behind the camera.
Knowing the scene you had to cut for RUclips makes your reaction in widescreen even more ... well hilarious to be honest 😅✌
Tuco seem like a calm and reasonable dude.
If you think [blank] was [blank] in this season, wait until [blank] [blank] in season [blank], you'll be shocked 😲 😯
South Jersey?! That’s where I’m from. Grew up in Willingboro and lived all over Burlington county!
Damn... when Jessie kills Abraham Lincoln... mad respect for going against the flow.
It gets better and better! Oh, and Tuco is played by Raymond Cruz.
Love to hear this. Especially seeing that there’s 5 seasons hahaha. Gonna keep ‘em coming!
@@JamesVSCinema Nice! I knew this channel was worth subscribing.
Tuco has boxing gloves on his necklace
You’re reference to a ticking clock is perfect. Tick tick ticking😂
This was the last show, before the writers strike. During that strike. Vince Gilligan decided to take the show in a different direction, We have the breaking bad we love today, he originally was gonna kill Jesse off in the 1st season
