In case you are wondering, walters death is described like this in the script:
“Bird's Eye View: We look straight down on Walt as he tumbles into frame, lying flat on his back on the floor. His eyes stare up at us, lifeless. And yet, his final expression is one of faint satisfaction.
We slowly CRANE UP, UP and AWAY from him. Walt shrinks smaller and smaller in frame. POLICE OFFICERS approach him now -- four, six, eight of them. They move in cautiously, their guns aimed.
They’re too late. He got away”

The title of this episode is so intricate. From a Chemistry perspective FeLiNa, is iron, lithium and sodium. Iron in blood, lithium in meth and sodium in tears. Felina is also an anagram of finale. As well as this its also the name of the woman in the song that Walt hums while building the gun.

The song links to the plot. Both are about wanted men returning to town for a final confrontation. Both are there for their love; in Walt's case the love of his life was Meth.

The last shot of Jesse laughing and crying as he’s driving away is one of the most powerfully emotional things I’ve ever seen in my life. About makes me cry along with him. As satisfying as El Camino’s ending is as an epilogue for Jesse as a character, I didn’t need it. All the catharsis I needed I got in seconds of screentime with no dialogue and Aaron Paul, as usual, delivering some of the best acting I’ve ever seen.
I’m very much in the same boat with you on being able to be on Walt’s side in that final scheme. It’s a nice bonus from the production team that the final bosses for him are the most monstrous people he’s ever come across, and he absolutely wrecks the shit out of them.

I haven't seen this mentioned but Walt was actually going to Kill Jesse once Skinny Pete and Badger told him about the blue meth. up until Jack brings out Jesse; Walter actually thought Jesse and Jack/Todd were working together. It wasn't until walt saw what they did to Jesse that Walt spared Jesse and forgave him basically.

Now you have a firm grasp on why this show was so beloved. The storytelling, the acting, the character developments, the cinematography, and the fact that they just continued to up the stakes and make call-backs while still being unpredictable make this arguably the greatest series ever made. With the way people consume entertainment nowadays this series will be hard to ever top imo! And people thought Brian Cranston couldn't play a serious dramatic role. 🤣

One of the elements that makes this such a brilliant finale is the fact that the writers weren’t afraid of doing what was CORRECT - even if it was also EXPECTED. In other words, they weren’t so intent on “surprising the audience” or “subverting expectations” that they ignored the narrative payoffs already baked into the story.
Instead, they focused on doing the best and most satisfying version of those payoffs, and in doing so almost made us feel like gleeful co-conspirators with Walt and his final plan.

The bullets that look like lasers are called tracers, meant to look like that so that you can guide your aim because otherwise you dont see where the bullet is actually going. And by the way, a tracer usually comes *every 5 bullets,* so mutiply by that for perhaps the real number of bullets fired.

Keep shit rolling until you can't make money off of it anymore. Leaves a bad taste in your mouth, eh. But these writers knew there had to be an end.
Breaking Bad (and BCS) has so much care and amazing work put into them, it's undeniable. Also actually has respect for its audience's intelligence.

A bittersweet ending. I was also sad to see the show go, but glad it ended so perfectly. They coulda dragged the show on for another couple seasons and ruined it, but they knew the story they wanted to tell and told it. Tough to see it go, but you are still only halfway through the whole story. Enjoy the rest of your ride.
Love Walter's delivery: "Elliot, if we're gonna go that way, you'll need a bigger knife." That was so Mike. Mythbusters did a Breaking Bad episode, and one of the myths was recreating the car gun, and they got it to work nearly identically using the same components Walt used. There's a great moment you can probably find on RUclips as well of Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul reading the script for the finale together. Very touching moment between the two actors who became close friends. Just some stuff to check out on your own when you miss Breaking Bad.

I love the symmetry in the finale. In the pilot, Walt is wearing washed out colors, soft spoken, described in the script as having an "impotent" mustache, and really resents blending in with the crowd. In the finale he's lurking the shadows, still blending into the background but it's a strength, his beard is full, and he's fully accepted his role as the bad guy in the story. The series is also a study of change.

One little detail I've never noticed until now:
The pressure gauge at 25:50 says "Weiss" means "White" in german!
(Even tho you'd write "Weiß" for the color, but "ß" is basically just a sharp s and that's also literally what it's called :D)

Also another thing that is a good call back is when Jessy says a few episodes back about how lucky Walt is. At the beginning of the episode he’s trying to get the car to start to he can escape the cops… then he takes a second to breathe… then keys fall from the driver mirror. Pure luck and he was able to escape and finish his journey.

The best thing about breaking bad and sopranos is that they end at the peak of the audience leaving the audience wanting more, rather than other shows like The Walking Dead which refuse to die

Something I can't believe hasn't been brought up is the significance of the song playing in the car when Walt starts it up. If you want a video showing the parallels, I highly HIGHLY recommend Breaking Bad - El Paso "Felina" by iproemo here on RUclips, but the text version is this.
El Paso by Marty Robbins tells the story of a singer who falls in love with a woman named Felina (and as others have pointed out, FeLiNa translates to Iron, Lithium and Sodium on the periodic table, aka Blood, Meth and Tears), describing her as "wicked and evil while casting a spell".
One day the singer finds a cowboy flirting with Felina and, in a fit of jealous rage, challenges him to a duel and kills him. Realizing he's committed murder, he flees the cantina and steals a horse, escaping El Paso and into the desert. This parallels the final showdown with Hank (I even alluded to the two looking like they were about to duel in a western when they stood outside the garage in S5E10 "Buried") who dies thanks to Walter's actions, causing him to flee the state, but not before stealing a "horse", which could either be compared to the cleaning service van he escapes in, or the truck he buys from the man in the desert. Back in the song, the singer laments that his life has lost all meaning, and all he has left is his feelings for Felina that ultimately drive him to return to El Paso.
The part specifically that plays while Walt is in the car is "I saddled up and away I did go, riding alone in the dark. Maybe tomorrow a bullet may find me, tonight nothing's worse than this pain in my heart."
Walt is also singing an early part of the song as he assembles the rig for the M60 in his trunk.
But the song goes on to describe the singer returning to El Paso, greeted by over a dozen armed men ready to kill him for his crimes that he has to flee from to get to the cantina and meet Felina one last time. The singer takes a bullet in the side and falls down, while Walt also takes a bullet to the side while on the ground as he takes out Jack's men. The singer rises one last time and makes his way to the back door of the cantina, ultimately dying Felina's arms, just as Walt also dies in the embrace of his one true love; FeLiNa.
The significance of this song was one of my favorite things about the finale, and the idea of using songs to structure stories and to repurpose them with not literal, but thematic parallels, has inspired so much of my writing. Breaking Bad is one of the best written series of all time, and is directly responsible for making me want to truly improve my writing. That and Daredevil season 3.

Throughout the whole show, nobody ends a phone call with a proper goodbye. And it always pissed me off my first time watching, that they'd just hang up not wrapping the convos up. But the first being "goodbye Lidia" after you tell her she's dying, in the finale, made the others worth it.

When Walt shot Uncle Jack, it calls back to when Jack shot Hank, “he made up his mind 10 mins ago”. There was no amount of negotiating that he could do to make Walt hear him out, even if it had to do with the rest of his money. He was gonna kill him regardless and rightly so.

The writing for the whole show was excellent. One of the biggest reasons is they knew where they were going “Mr Chips to Scareface”. And the didn’t rush the transition. Original Walt was going to roll Jane on her back so he could get to Jesse. But the writers thought it was too soon so they took a more passive accidentally approach. The transition took time but always pointed to that end point.
I had a creative writing teacher who said that you should read the last sentence first! Then you know what your aiming for.

What a series. Masterclass of acting, suspenseful writing, character writing, cinematography, all that good stuff we want to see. One of my top 3 shows, alongside The Wire (highly recommended btw) and Better Call Saul. Can you believe it tho, that Better Call Saul is considered by many (me included) to be even better? Yeah, strap yourself in, because the ride is only half way done.
As for this ending, ooh boy. Walt just waltzed into the lives of so many competent people like Saul, Hank, Gus, Salamancas, Mike and etc. And when he is on that floor dying, this one mans big ego trip, destroyed everything around him. His family and Jesse included. Walt was a menace, but such a well written and deep menace. Truly in season 5 he was the main villain, and even his redemption of saving Jesse, came as a spur of the moment thing. He didn't go back to ABQ to get Jesse. He went back to give the money away, and to kill the gang. I think it was in the back of his mind all that time, but until he saw Jesse in chains, he may as well have expected that Jesse gave in to them willingly and partnered up. Him tackling Jesse was the moment he decided to save him. Also, so much honesty in this episode. Walt finally being honest with Skyler. And then Jesse finally demanding that Walt cut the BS manipulation, and admit that he wants it. And Walt gives in. It literally took him until his final day on earth, to be honest with the people closest to him.
Fun little thing I noticed is that Mike wanted to kill Lydia and make her disappear, and she wanted her body to be found. Then she and Walt had Mike's guys killed. And now Lydia is dying in her own bed, where she will be found. Talk about irony. And with both Walt and Lydia dead, Mike can go 'heh, serves you right' from the other side.
Anyway, hope you have an amazing ride in Better Call Saul. They learned a lot of their craft in BB, and in BCS, they both put it to good use, and improve on it.

A perfect episode. The show couldn't have ended better.
And I love the details in it. There's just so much.
The scene with Skyler is fantastic, the way they set up the reflection of her face through the smoke in the microwave door, the reveal and then the visual depiction of the rift through their relationship. Then stuff like the very deliberate focus on the Stevia with Lydia, and finally the shot of Walter tapping a pressure gauge manufactured by "Weiss", which is the German word for the colour white.
What a ride this was, I can't wait for El Camino and Better Call Saul!
