  • Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (27 January 1756 - 5 December 1791) was one of the most influential, popular and prolific composers of the classical period. A child prodigy, from an early age he began composing over 600 works, including some of the most famous pieces of symphonic, chamber, operatic, and choral music.

    Thamos, King of Egypt (or King Thamos; in German, Thamos, König in Ägypten) is a play by Tobias Philipp, baron von Gebler, for which, between 1773 and 1780, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart wrote incidental music, K. 345/336a, of an operatic character.
    It is not known for certain whether the music that Mozart composed was performed with the play during his lifetime. The play's première took place at the Kärntnertortheater in Vienna, probably on 4 April 1774, by which time two choruses had been written. Performances in Salzburg in 1776 and 1779-80 may have incorporated the orchestral interludes and the three choruses in their final form, respectively. The music was re-used in 1783 in a different play (set in India, not Egypt), Lanassa, by Karl Martin Plümicke.

    Mozart your music lives. I pray that it provides me with the creative juices to inspire a body of work that will live forever. Or hoping that what I do leave behind motivates someone to create.

    Indeed one of the most unknown works by the genius Mozart, with a clear fracmasonic portray. Full of dramatic music. I like the parts with choir too, which are not that easy to perform, from my previous experience with this work. Thanks for posting it.

    Wonderful hearing the development of Mozart's music. This is something like midperiod , and already Mozart's music is pretty much his mature style..
    Never heard this before, very charming.

      For everybody who reed that: Listen to Gardiner's version of the complete Thamos. It's the greatest version for many musicians, so enjoy and try not to cry ! ^^

    The first notes in the introduction reminds the cords of the begining of Don Giovanni Mozart's opera.

      @bartjebartmans  4 года назад +1

      You know that had to do with length of LP don't you? Also CD's could have those considerations. Repeats meant less room for other works. On EP's it was even worse, and let's not talk about 78's.
