Mr. Toad's Wild Ride (aka Saxon Creek Trail) is an all-time mountain bike adventure that has been around since 1982. A fire tore through this area last year but things are not completely lost.

Hey Brian. Just wanted to say thank you for all your videos and you being you. I'm 42, just now getting into mountain biking. I'm also from the V! And seeing you, all your positivity, respect and gratitude for the land and the people who work hard on the trails is really encouraging. Keep it up! I especially like the vids with Sarah. I've been sharing with my girlfriend and now she's interested in MTBing!
That's great to hear! Thanks for the kind words
Yeah I’m pretty sure you’re not supposed to bike after 40?
@@neuralbliss and I'm pretty sure no one asked you
@@neuralbliss You're not supposed to ride after death, but up till then it's all good.
@@fourutubez7294 I love you.
“Luck is worthless”
Love it, some sage wisdom right there!
dude even just that fire road to the top of armstrong connector has me gassed this season. starting the climb at 6300 feet is no joke
Brian:”this is the part I’ve never gotten till now”
Sarah-casually rides through rock garden first try
haha it was my second try actually - after seeing Brian ride it! I get by with a little bit of help from my friends!
Such positive vibes. The conversation is so pleasant.. Brian + Sarah both so great, as a team, encouraging each other, in challenging circumstances... This is not any easy feat. You guys are awesome, thank you.
I wish I could get my daughter into this. Yours is a really good rider.
The boys and I love your videos ... just a joy to watch and inspirational as heck... ride on Brian ride on Sarah . We love the addition of Sarah . Its your life's progress and its nice to see you with a riding partner. Dream partner Brian. Rock on guy!!!!!
Nothing personal with Sarah but miss Yuka. Fun ride videos and she was a daredevil!
It's always a good day when i can watch some bkxc and wife.
Love the positive vibe you guys put out.
That was hella fun, guys. Thank you for another adventure.
What an amazing trail!! Great video thanks for sharing 🤙
I'm only mentioning this because of a recent experience and I could be wrong in guessing this, but Sarah's bars look particularly wide. I just cut mine down from 800mm to 770mm (might go back and cut another 5mm off each side to match my dirt jumper) and it has helped me a lot with cornering and those awkward moments when you need to maneuver your bike more like at 11:38. There is definitely a sweet spot between stability and maneuverability, and I firmly believe that stock bar width on any modern bike is just too wide. My main test has been measuring my pushup width and seeing which muscles engage and what widths I can do the most pushups and feel strongest. Narrower bars can increase control because stronger muscles are pushing that bar around. MTB Coach Lee McCormack talks about this and how you can injure your shoulders over time from going as wide as possible. This comment isn't just for the OP, but for anyone looking to improve their biking skills.
This place looks amazing to ride, and after a weekend of biking I'm itching to do MORE!
You have a really good point with that! We may need to check this out.
Just did this trail, got dropped off at Luther pass, went up the TRT, and dropped into Toads, still had energy and went up and did Corral into Powerline. EPIC RIDE!
Nice ride good handling skills both of you💪💪💪
I can't wait to do this trail....I just did the The Flume Trail 3 weeks ago or so and just loved it! It's so beautiful up there! I hope you guy enjoy the gorgeous scenery and trails!
Congrats on 500K! I have enjoyed your videos for years and now that there're two of you, it's just that much better!
Fantastic looking trails.
Génial comme toujours, bravo a vous 2 😍😉🤘
Great Video! Sarah is an Awesome addition, keep doing what you do.
So great to see South Lake Tahoe (SLT) getting more love from BKXC!
There are so many great trails around Lake Tahoe! Shout out to TAMBA for all that they do! Riding in Tahoe offers awesome views and rides for every level rider! Not to mention - there is the beautiful alpine lake with amazing water and beaches!
I wish I know your channel earlier you’re freaking awesome❤
man, i love those long flowy single track trails, as per usual the banter makes these videos seem so much shorter than they are, cheers guys, another classic
Thanks so much!
Great video and great job to both of you! My first attempt at Mr Toads was back in 99. We were riding the Punisher where you start at Heavenly, Freele pass, Star lake etc. with Mr Toads at the end. Proceeded to separate my collar bone by crashing on those stairs. Long, slow and painful ride out.
I recognize some parts of those trails. Really fun riding up there
nice trail! Watching from Davao City Philippines
I love going to Lake Tahoe! Great video, great looking trail, and give her the keys!
Thanks so much Tim!
I love your guy's Tahoe ride. I want to ride someday.
Last time I road Mr Toad's was 25 years ago on a hardtail - putting it on the bucket list
Nice trail 🎉
I had the same problem washing out my front wheel because I was used to getting behind the saddle on steeps w/o having a dropper.
Another great video. Haven't ridden Toads for 30 years!
Watching Sarah clean that gnarly section was awesome!
That said, watching her on the flowy sections, I'm guessing she's having some occasional target fixation issues. The crash at 11:40 indicates she was looking at the flat rock on the left to avoid it - and then went left thereafter off trail - instead of simply looking at the path she wants to take. I've seen her get off-line in several other videos in similar circumstances and I'm guessing she's looking at the obstacles ahead instead of focusing on her path through. Like the comment about unweighting the front wheel too much. That's a factor too...
My $0.02.
That said, she' rocks the rocks! You both do.
When your shadow is in frame its really cool to see your bike separation while cornering.
Yeah, it almost looks like CGI!
Love your vids and, especially, the ones with Sarah. While I see some comments on her mistake with the front wheel, I've always thought how comfortable and dialed in she looks on the bike. I've been mountain biking since the late 80's (yes, I'm showing my age!), but I find myself continuing to learn from watching others and I think I'm doing that by watching her. If y'all make it to Mount Shasta, would love to show you one of our gems...the Sisson Callahan Trail. 12 mile descent with everything from chundery, techy start to flowy sections along the North Fork of the Sacramento, starting are alpine and ending at Lake Siskiyou...and a swim to wash away the sweat and grime!
Cool stuff 💥💥💥
You guys must be part goat! Great video and amazing trails! Your ability to climb AND talk is way impressive lol.
I first rode Mr Toads in the 80's on a fully rigid equipped with a "Soft Ride" suspension stem. I remember being jealous of the few guys on "Pro Flex" "Full Suspension" bikes (Elastomer Springs! think skateboard trucks🤣) The trails were smoother with less wear and tear/erosion, but back in the old days, we used to ride around the rocks.😉
Lake Tahoe Area "GORGEOUS PLACE" . . . 🤘💯🎸🎸🎸🤘🙋♂
We were a bit tight on time when I was there many years ago. Had a choice between Mr. Toad's and Hole in the Ground and did Hole in the Ground. Great trail but always wanted to to Mr. Toad's too! Looks fun!
Next time!!
What a great video and man those trails look so great! I would have to get in better shape for that much climbing though 😅
Cool video 🤩👍
even tough a fire went through there, it is still beautiful
Great job on the crux Brian and Sarah. Brian also killed the proline. Was just up there today after yesterdays rain it was really good. It’s crazy how burned the bottom is.
Take care.
Awesome cool epik trail Beautiful 🤘👍❤❤❤
Another can top tapper. Sarah, FTW. Also for the rock garden.
It is hard to relearn the forward weighting required modern geo…btdt! Great video!
Nice.
Waoo ❤❤I love mountain ride ❤❤❤🤘👌
Brian, gotta hit up Big Chief while you're up there.
You should come down to Carson valley to ride the pinion trail it’s a 5 mile loop but there’s unmapped single track all around
Hey Brian and Sarah. I love your videos and love the way you commentate them as well. My wife and I ride a lot together and it is something we really enjoy doing as well. Can you share with me your setup to where you and Sarah are having a conversation and it is being heard by your views as well? Thank you for the videos and please keep them coming!
That is an epic loop !!! bucket list for sure when i visit Tahoe, What front tire does Sarah is using ?
Brian and Sarah! Those nobby nics are probably what cause her to crash, there not as compliant as maxxis, I have had it randomly happen to me , but switch to maxxis never happens. Just throwing that out there!
Interesting!!
@@bkxc the rubber compounds are different, if you follow ruclips.net/user/DUSTINJOHNSON208 he's a huge MTB tire nerd he will explain much better then I can.
Super nice¡¡¡
What a great place. I go mountain biking on the Quantock Hills in Somerset UK, you ever been there?
Good day for bike enduro
Would love to have access to trails like this
11:39 I had same accident this year in the easiest part of the trail and now I end up with healing my wrist 3rd week straight but I still need to rest my wrist a bit more. Sometimes the easiest parts of the trail might be the most tricky.
NorCal classic
Like Yoann Barelli says, you need to charge the front of your bike! Lol
You’re the one that got me into Mountain Biking but one thing I must ask is
Out of all the things you could eat or drink on a ride, what makes you choose coke?
So I really need to ask. I loved the video and, especially when you got to the rocky/ janky sections I couldn't help but think about Spain. When you taking the new wife to Spain to ride the trails there again?
We got two of these for our daughters ruclips.net/user/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L the same size for age 6 and 9. It works very well for both girls. Gears were very easy for them to learn. Changing gears up takes some hand strength and is a bit hard, but they are learning. They did not come with water bottle holders- we actually got confused and thought the Derailler Guard was the bottle holder!! Regardless of these details, the bikes are fantastic- even our six year old who only just learned to ride bikes caught on within an hour of practice and loves it. Lightweight and easy for them to handle. All the parts are in excellent condition and the bikes are easy to assemble and very well packaged. Great choice for kids!
Hey what is Sarah hydration bag?
Did you lock suspension on the downhill
Will you show sentier du moulin to Sarah this summer. I would like to meet you. Since you Reignited my mtb passion.
Is this rideable in late May? Or is there still a great chance of it being covered in snow that time of year?
Sarah is a total bad ass 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Just curious. Have you ever had any run ins with wildlife out on your rides? Do you carry any items for protection or would you suggest any?
@14:30…all that burn is really sad. That area’s going to erode badly without trees/shade.
Great video!!! Question guys … do you have carbon wheels in your bikes??
I would love to be able to do this ride, it's a lot of climbing though.
“Pain and pleasure”
There is a way to get to Toad’s…. “From the other side”. Yes - you can climb up TRT from the other side, but if you drive up the Horse Meadow fire road further, you get to a shorter climb. The climb is about a 1 mile to Tahoe Rim Trail (TRT) and then you can connect to Toad’s, or follow Armstrong Connector down into Corral/Sidewinder.
What great ride! Sad to see the burn scars but that's natures way
“How well do your brakes wo…”
“Let me stop you right there”
~His brakes, probably
Sarah needs to watch Seth (Backyard Trail Builds) latest vid where he gets coached on cornering. They actually talk about how you need to keep your weight forward just enough to ensure you have weight over the front wheel. It's a mistake I've personally made a tonne of times.
Hey what camera set up do you use your audio is so clean
Link in the description to all the gear!
I’m watching this and liking the trail, but I’m totally confused; where are the cables at? Are those shifter 3x7 speed shifter break lever combo 21 speed shifters?
AXS wireless electronic shifting
And, wireless dropper post on the left.
What happened to opening greeting, "My Friends!"? My favorite part of every BKXC video. 😒
Hello bro big fen
I didn’t see any snacks…just cokes
Tell Sarah to slow her rebound down a little. Lol.
hope to see an update to everstoke soon
i like Sarahs riding style. fluid and fearless. it would be nice to see your riding style sometimes. i have noticed that you're good at rock climbing. bless up
She's rocking and rolling! Here's me riding earlier this year: ruclips.net/video/M6h5iagZq_w/видео.html
CHERRY COKE!
Trail has been there long before 1982, so that sign was not accurate anyway. Perhaps that is when mountain bikers discovered it and named Saxon Creek Trail " Mr. Toads". Trail is on 1956 topo's and may go way before that. Sad to see all the burned areas that will probably turn into fields of whitethorn.
Interesting!
Is it okay that you always drink soda in every ride?
Whoever took the "Mr Toads Wild Ride" sign. Jesus saw you .
Damn still not
Hey Brian, why don’t you put a camera on the rear end of Sarah’s bike so we could see you from another angel.
I think there might be a bit of luck involved in RUclips lol
Hey BKXC, the music in the beginning is not as solid as the pure sounds of just biking on trails. Simplicity often is more ideal...
Rename trail "Rocky Road Rim Rattler".
Why is it that wrecks hurt us guys so much and girls are just laugh about it. You see it all the time in those “Fails” videos. Girls just don’t feel pain. Lol
Haha! Invincible!
@bkxc Brian,
Got a message from your channel saying that I won a bike. Were you really doing a raffle?
Hey phone, stop listening to my conversations
Just because I talked about a ride I went on at Disneyland 15 years ago doesn't mean I want to type it into the search bar.
Never been first before lol
Looks like Sarah needs to cut her bars a little or maybe video perspective but her arms look too wide open .
