As a machinist and machine tool re-builder, I'm curious as to the value in working with an old worn surface grinder when your investment in all your inspection tools far exceed the value of your machine tools.
He's preparing his new magnetic chuck. Truing of the top face was done previously, and the proof was provided on his comparator stand at the beginning of the video. Then with use of his side wheel he made the back and front faces parallel so his fence could reference the chuck. The face of the fence wasn't to his liking with just the CBN, so he busted out the alumina oxide to finish up. As the title says this is just prep work, now when he goes to grind a workpiece, he can trust the reference surfaces on the chuck. Less time shimming, tapping with hammers, and dialing in things.

First time viewer. No explanation as to what we are doing?
Fascinating machinery.

Hope that Blue Moon ordeal helped you get through with all that grinding...lol
Hi, Stan - thank you! Very helpful. I have the same chuck and the lever and all is totally wallered out. Have you filmed an R+R of a mag chuck?
Sorry I haven't filmed taking a chuck apart.
. It is nice to see you doing some more videos always very informative and entertaining. Kimber Zelik at RUclips.
Stan, just curious. When you placed the chuck in the wet epoxy paint do you worry the paint will bond the chuck so good it will never come off again?
I have done this before, you can pop it loose from a corner with some leverage.
How's the oiling doing with the clean and open oil passages? Did the dripping stop?
No way oil is getting out, still have the hydro leak, but I knew that already ...
