Take it from a old hiker in the Whites. Ware ankle and knee braces, along with mid top boots that cover the ankles. Get the lightweight braces that have the flexible steel in them. You could just use an ankle sleeve without the steel. I also use a hiking pole. All us old timers do. Will be 63 in February and can't wait to go hiking in the Whites this summer. Next time, add some video of the inside of the hut.
I'm a county snow plow operator in upstate NY, videos like these help me get through the long winters when the wanderlust bug bites me hard. THANK YOU!!! Maybe I'll see you up there in spring.
Also, never enjoy the view while still walking, too rocky. Meditate into each step. Don't ware Polaroid sun glasses, they throw off your depth perception going from rock to rock especially on the down hill.
I love that you got the hut croo in your video! And that you saw Greenleaf. What a beautiful day you had!
Another fine video. I agree, those hut caretakers are tough as hell!

It's not how many breaths you take, it's how many moments take your breath away.
Happy Hiking
What a cool video! Loved seeing the hut crew. I can’t wait to do the loop in the spring!! Great video Neal, awesome job!
Thank you. Appreciate you. 🙂
amazing video, what kind of device are you using to record?
I just use my iPhone and a steady hand
You said you broke your ankle on Franconia Ridge. How on earth did you get back down?
Liberty summit. I walked down with poles and friends.
