    Very nice video you did a great job. .I have hiked that area many times over the years. Last year I did the Pemi loop clockwise. I wish I could have done it in four days but I only had two nights so my first day was long, at least for me it was. Lincoln woods to Garfield Pond was a grind. It was a great hike. I am in my 60s so I remember the days of 40 plus pound pack. My pack empty was about eight pounds back then, crazy. Now all in about 18 to 20 pounds, its wonderful. I paid up and have lot Zpack gear now. Game changer. I plan on doing it again but going counter clockwise. It seems that may be a little better but maybe not. The Garfield Ridge area has my number and I think that's the hardest trail in the Whites. I really like how you took your time filming this, it really shows. Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience. Take care.

    fantastic views! Love this and give us more! Reminds me of my 1972 trip that we tackled the whole presidential range in a group of 8 out of New York. I was 16 and wow how equipment technologies have evolved!

    Extremely well shot video. Well done! Next time you are in the Bonds, take the time to summit West Bond, it's a very small detour. In my opinion, it's the best view in all of the Whites.

      We actually summited West Bond on this trip to catch the sunset and a glimpse of Comet Neowise but I didn't film much of it so it didn't make it into the video.

    This looked so different than any Pemi Loop video I've seen. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Really well shot. Also, thank you both for donning masks during the hike. I have run into too many people not respecting those guidelines.

    • @GreatAmericanHikes
      @GreatAmericanHikes  4 года назад +2

      Thanks for the compliment!
      The mask thing is certainly a tricky one. While the virus is certainly less transmissible in the outdoors we were hyper aware that we are in a pandemic. Just trying to be courteous to our fellow hikers. :)

    • @Ruckanonymous
      @Ruckanonymous 4 года назад +1

      @@GreatAmericanHikes Agreed. I just throw it on when passing or around other hikers and take it off afterwards. It takes just a few moments. But I understand people feeling a lot safer because of the lower transmittability. It's just awesome to see a great hike AND people who respect the trails and their governing guidelines. Any plans for future big hikes like this one anytime soon?

      @@Ruckanonymous Dan and I did a hike in the Adirondacks a few weeks back where we summited 6 of the high peaks including Gothics, Mount Marcy and Mount Colden. The numbers were comparable to the Pemi, 32 miles, 10,500 feet of elevation. Episode 2 will be that ADK hike and Episode 3 will come out when Dan and I hit the Catskills for the Devil's Path in a few weeks!

    As was the case with the Adirondack trip, it was nice to see so many places that I recognize and was very familiar with. I've never done the Pemi Loop, but hiked each of those mountains (actually, all 48 at least once) as day hikes.

    • @GreatAmericanHikes

    Really enjoyed this! I'm hoping to spend some time in the Whites summer '24 (recovering from an ankle injury). Love the editing and choice of soundtracks - very relaxing.
    How do you like the Tarptent? What coffee beans do you use?
    And don't be hatin' on the camp chair!

      I like the Aeon a lot but the number one issue I’ve had with it is packability. I’ve been experimenting with a few other shelters.
      Coffee depends on the season. I order often from Tandem and Sey roasters. I gravitate towards single origin African coffee, more specifically Ethiopian.

  • @cfraimondo233

    I did enjoy the format and the video out of pure entertainment and nostalgia. Maybe just throwing some text up on the screen at end of day to help people understand distance, time and elevation.
    Start of hike maybe do an intro of total weight and pack weight.
    Just out of curiosity, did you prefer clockwise our counter? I tried counter once thinking logistically it worked better. But planning a return to do the full loop. First attempt hit nasty rainy, cold windy weather so turned around after staying at Guyot.
    I'm mostly an adirondack hiker but explored NH a couple times and love it.

    • @GreatAmericanHikes
      @GreatAmericanHikes  3 года назад

      Thanks for the feedback! I overhauled the format of my trip videos to give more context to the trip. If you hike the Adirondacks a lot you might like the video I did in the High Peaks.
      Preference wise I can't really say if I enjoyed CW vs CCW with the Pemi. Both have advantages and disadvantages. If you get a chance do it both ways!

    Are you working on your 48 4ks? Great video!

    • @GreatAmericanHikes
      @GreatAmericanHikes  4 года назад +1

      Thanks! Yes and no. While I do intend on bagging all 48 of the peaks it's not a priority for me. I enjoy extended backpacking trips more than peak bagging. So, stringing together a bunch of peaks over a 3-5 day trip is what I'll probably be doing to complete the 48 4K. I think it also lends to more interesting videos. We have another pretty epic trip planned for next year up in the Whites.

      @@GreatAmericanHikes that's exactly what I am doing. I want to make all of them via overnighters. I am in NYC without a car so dayhiking them would still mean renting a car then staying in a hotel or base camping and that doesnt appeal to me at all when there are amazing places up in the mountains and long treks to be had. I am at 17/48 in this way. 2020 really put the ka-bosh on adding to my total but 2021 I a going to knock a bunch out and have some great trips, I hope.
