  • Jan and I made our way to Block Island on the Ferry from Pt Judith, RI. Its a nice one hour ride to the picturesque 3 x 7 mile Island. The established bike route takes you around the perimeter of the Island on paved roads. I recommend a day trip after Labor Day since the Island may be very crowded during the tourist season.

    lucky weather and lots of exercise. i'm surprised at biking shoes! i always use 'fun flatties' just so i can bike in sandals or hikers. those stairs made your quota of steps for the day for sure.

      Hi Stephen, I love my Shimano clip in sandals. They are comfortable and easy to walk in. Block Island has many hills and those steps are a challenge, however the view is worth it. Thanks again and have a spectacular day, Steve

    I love the scenery, but I'm not a fan of riding on roads with no shoulder or bike lanes. As a matter of fact, I prefer to ride on bike paths away from the roads or at least in a bike lane where there are sensible drivers. All of the hills remind me of when I rode my bike in Maryland. I guess it's good to challenge yourself going uphill but going downhill makes me feel like I'm cheating. Thanks for sharing, Steve. Take care, David.

    • @steveretiredandcycling
      @steveretiredandcycling  Год назад +1

      Hi David, there were certainly lots of hills. The traffic wasn't bad since most tourists don't bring cars due to the high cost of transportation. There are only 900 year round residents, exploding to 20,000 during the summer. Best to visit after Labor Day as we did. I agree, bike paths are much safer, although I still use my front blinky light to prevent head on collisions with other bikers. This almost happened on the Erie Canal trail. Have a great day, Steve

    That looked like a good ride. Those stairs sure did look steep'. Lamoille Valley Rail Trail is behind schedule and should be done late spring early summer . Some parts are complete thou. Looking forward to it being done. Take care, Al

Any local website you can recommend to get recent updates? Hopefully it will be complete early this summer. Thanks again and have a great day, Steve

    Ahhhh, you were in my neck of the woods. I spend my summer boating on the water by the block island ferry. I haven’t cycled BI because of the hills and you have reiterated my position on that…LOL… looks like you had a wonderful day. Keep on making content, I love watching your adventures. We went to the cape last week and road the shining sea bike trail, wow is that a great ride. If you haven’t been on it I highly recommend. 20 miles round trip.

      You are so right about the hills on Block Island. However, its still an enjoyable ride. Jan and I hope to make it out to the Cape this summer. We will check out the trail you mentioned. Thanks for continuing to watch my videos. Take care and have an amazing day, Steve

      Hi Doris, the glasses are made by Tifosi. They aren't cheap but the tinting goes from clear to sufficiently dark as you noted. Here is the link, however they have many other styles with the same type of lens. www.tifosioptics.com/product/crit-matte-smoke-cycling-sunglasses/ Thanks and have an excellent day, Steve

    I know this video is two months back but I haven't seen this one yet. How's the weather right now in January? Can you ride or it's too cold, do you get snow at this time of year? It's warm and nice here in Florida in winter months. I just got back of my little four day biking adventure and planning soon another one. Hope you're doing well. Take care. 🙂

      Hi Thomas, hope all is well with you. It is very cold here in Connecticut. Record low of -13F yesterday. I don't ride when the weather gets below 40 degrees. Snow skiing takes over in the winter. Been very busy preparing my sailboat for sale. Got a buyer in the middle of winter. Hope to finish a few RUclips videos in the coming weeks. Lots of catching up to do. Looks like you've been very busy with some really nice trips. Take care, Steve
