So glad I typed in Block Island. I haven't been there since Nov. 5th, 1982. My husband was in the coast guard and southeast lighthouse was government housing at that time. I enjoyed my experience living there. I worked at the National Hotel for a short time and the corner market. Took the ferry over the mainland many times to go shopping. Never went on a moped ride but I did a lot of walking to town from southeast light. I remember Aldo's pizza. We at there all the time. I think that guy that showed you how to make the cinnamon twist is who I remember just a little. The staircase was not at the bluffs, we had to take a trail down to the beach. I had a picture of me around the lighthouse and sitting on the cliff. I enjoyed The Oar. I believe we have one there from the coast guard station. The crew of 1981 and 1982. I will be visiting Rhode Island hopefully next year. I want to experience a great summer there and hope to stay until I can see pumpkin patches, make my way to Boston. I absolutely LOVE NEW ENGLAND!! Thank you for this video. I use to go to Block Island years ago. I now live e in Florida central east coast 1 mile to the Atlantic Ocean. Now I'm home sick for my Block Island.
Giovanni de Verrazzano "discovered" Block Island in his 1523 expedition for France. He called the island, Isle of Rhodes for resembling Rhodes in Greece. The Wampanoag tribe knew about all these islands, they were friendly to Giovanni and his men. Showed them the other Islands in the Narragansett bay too. Rhode Islanders are so poorly educated, even on their own state history. There were people living in Aquidneck Island (Newport) before Adrian Block even touched foot in the West.... goofs.
