Brilliant film Jonny, strikes so many chords with me. "Don't throw it away, modify, update, revitalise it". Good message. Congratulations to Barbour & Selfridges.
What a wonderful film and you got to meet the increasingly talented experts at electric classic cars. What these guys do to vehicles is mind blowing and we are all privileged to have electric classic cars on our doorstep. To take a dirty diesel icon that I love and worked on during my apprenticeship; and bring it bang up to date with incredible performance just shows that electrification and upcycling is totally the way forward.
Really nice video. It's a great ethos to have in this day and age. We need more companies like Barbour to show us the way in renewable resources and recycling. I'm off to buy a second hand Barbour coat...
They say that once the internal combustion engine is removed is taking out weight and adding back that precise balance for everything to work harmoniously.
Nice project. Would love to see a national ICE2EV retrofit scheme to allow people convert their petrol or diesel car to electric for approx £10-€15k combined with 0% 'green' financing over 5-12 years so they can use the money they save from fuel, tax, servicing, etc to cover the repayments.
But you have the other problem. The rest of the car, and it's parts. Manufacturers and aftermarket will stop making parts past a certain age, unless it's a popular model.
Interesting. The Defender is such an icon I hope it lives on the in the new age of EVs. Although was it just me of was that one sitting quite low on the suspension?
Great video Jonny! Love the fact that the original Defender is getting a new lease on life via an electric powertrain. That's nice. But sustainability really ought to be more closely examined. What's vegan leather? Vinyl (aka plastic). And Alcantara is another material derived from plastic. Sustainably sourced and treated leather -- created from by-products that would normally be discarded -- seems to be a more ecologically friendly approach and more in-tune with Barbour's ethos.
Brilliant 👏 how about a drive up to Orkney , where we are based , and where over 100% ( since 2013) of our electricity is from renewables ! ( solar , wind and tidal turbines )
If/when I had the money, I'd convert a 70s Peugeot 504 estate or an 80s E200 estate to and EV. Just curious, how much would that cost? Would it go down in the future?
Ideal for electric conversion I'd say, no worries about the heater taking too much power, no real need to bother with a vac pump for the brakes, and noone would ever want to do more than 100 miles in one sitting
I have seen the new Land Rover Defender on test.. it looks like it was designed by drunk Tuk Tuk owner! It was terrible looking at the back. It was worse than a council house's xmas decorations put up in October.
Jonny is in my opinion one of the very best tv/RUclips presenters out there. Brilliant video as usual from him. Love that car
love Barbour, love Defender 90, love Jonny Smith's youtube's. Win, Win, Win.
Enjoyed the film - nice conversion & good ethos shown in re-using instead of buying new. Big Up to all 3 partners (and you Jonny too!).
Brilliant film Jonny, strikes so many chords with me. "Don't throw it away, modify, update, revitalise it". Good message. Congratulations to Barbour & Selfridges.
This is fabulous. The underlying message is so quintessentially British.
Congratulations for this video and winning Jonny Smith for the role of narator. He is the best.

Great work, as usual, Jonny!
Brilliant video and exciting repurpose...wish o could find this in the States.
I think Barbour’s get better as they get older! That probably holds true with Land Rovers too! Great video.
Land rover's were never good. Unreliable, uneconomic, barn door engineering.
Both my Land Rovers are getting better with age. And come to think of it, my barn doors are still working and looking the business.
@@nidgen5523 You wife's "barn doors?"
This is incredible! You need to do a proper feature on this Defender.
How much is the conversion?
Loved it. Now ship some of those to Canada 🇨🇦 🇬🇧
Man.... too cool for school. I needs me a '78 Bronco retro-fit.

I'm off to buy a second hand Barbour coat...
Great vid JS and great project.
Well done all round.
excellent choice to get Jonny Smith to do this! Some collaboration you guys pulled off!
Absolutely gorgeous!
Bloody brilliant! Inspired.
Man I love this car. Perfect old and new combo. This is proper ev conversation. Well done!!.

Superb solution to 4WD retro-motoring.
Beautifully done!!
Thanks for the hard work to all involved
I WANT ONE!
Great vision of the future! Classic and sustainable
Great little video. Presenting style was very spot on for the brands involved.
Amazing truck! Looks like it has been lowered? What about diff locks? And general off road performance? We want to know more!!
Fantastic film !
Interesting. The Defender is such an icon I hope it lives on the in the new age of EVs. Although was it just me of was that one sitting quite low on the suspension?
I thought the same, wonder if it could be part of an attempt to make it more aerodynamic?
amazing!
Great fun Johnny, loved it :)

Very Interesting,good stuff.
This is a seriously cool car!
Brilliant.
Great episode! Love the ideal of converting existing vehicles,
I would love to remove a 2.5 diesel lump from my vw T5 camper to go electric .
I want an EV Landy more than ever now!
Awesome initiative! 👌🏻 love it! Inspired me for some cool stuff in the future
this was great Jonny love it - id have one - I'd love a kit to do it myself with donor car
Love the Defender conversion except the tartan dash! Bet you could buy a new Defender for what it cost though?
Love the idea. What is the price tag on converting the idea into your own vehicle
What were you doing behind that bush?
Have you felt a lot of Drunk Rugby Players Jonny?

Did you stay with Robert in the Cotswolds Jonny?

Galvanise the chassis, make 110kw or 90kw batteries removable, maybe regenerating shock absorbers and you’ve the ultimate car.
Future proof.
Fab!
Only £150k... not bad

The tartan on the dash looks horrendous. Not practical either.
Prefer a real engine, like A V8,.carrying half a tone of battery all the time doesn’t make sense, even to a greenie
Take the plastic all away from the supermarkets, it’s all bollox.
