From The Sticks | The Unexpected Journey of Austin Reaves | Short Film

- "From The Sticks", is an original short film about the unexpected journey of Austin Reaves, from a small town in Arkansas to the bright lights of Los Angeles.
This project is a special one to me. I grew up about 20 minutes from Austin. Being the same age we both played high school ball in the same area. I watched him and his brother take a small school and build it into a dynasty during his time there. I ended up moving to Texas my senior year, but even after leaving, I kept up with his journey. I went on to play NCAA hoops for a school up in Pennsylvania, and even then, I kept up with Austin during his time at Wichita State and Oklahoma. I watched him take the game that had drawn massive crowds to small Arkansas gyms, and mold it to fit high Division 1 basketball. I watched him sign a two-way deal with the Lakers...and to no surprise to anyone who watched him early on...I watched him earn a spot in the Lakers rotation. I'm not going to pretend that I knew he'd make it to the heights he has so early in his career. Nobody but Austin himself knew he was capable of that. But even from an early age, you could tell there was something special about Austin's mentality and approach to the game. I'm proud to be able to tell this incredible, unlikely story...and I hope it's one that inspires a new generation of hoopers from small towns or unique circumstances to always keep chasing their dream.

Austin Reaves is the best he's easily one of my favorite players on the Lakers Kobe would be so proud of him I know it 🥲💜💛
I've actually wondered what Kobe would have thought about AR
Yep. Like Labron, Kobe would have sensed that this dude got that “it” factor.
He is the exact type of player Kobe would have loved to have on his team. Smart, confident, hard working, and passionate.
As a Lakers fan I love this guy. Pay him his worth, and keep him long term. Great attitude and work ethic.
He's definitely earned a big contract this summer!
I think the most LAL can offer him is 4 year $50 mill. If I'm Reeves, i'm taking whichever team offers me the most money. Not like the Lakers are gonna win a championship anytime soon and California is an expensive poophole
@@damianpharaoh161Lebron not winning ever again. He should retire his son ain’t playing pro
Keep HIM HE IS ONF OF A KIND.HE IS HIM.
As much as I hate to say this as a warriors fan, this dude has GAME. He plays the right way and he's always under control. Respect Reeves.
Respect!!
Same bro. Outside of Curry and Giannis, this dude is one of my favorite players in the league.
I knew his brother. His brother played at my college. Cool dude. Really good. Cool to see their family succeeding
@@terriblechristiangamer9128He crossed over Giannis.
He a baller
"I'm him. I'm him." chills bruh. chills.
🗣️
I've been watching this kid play sense he was in 7th grade. His mom is a long time friend. He is an amazing young man, and always has been. Love seeing him have such great success! Everyone in his town and the surrounding towns/areas are so very proud of him. Congrats Austin for just being you and showing the world what you are capible of.
I love that! If you read the description then you'll know that I grew up not far from Newark as well. Love seeing how the community has embraced him. Feel free to share with his mom as well! Would love for his family and the community to see it.
Respect to his brother for pushing him even when he didn’t know he needed it
Facts! And the crazy thing is, his brother is probably as talented as he is, he just topped out at 6'3 so he doesn't quite have the height for the league. He's a great player in Germany right now!
My brother once pushed me . . . down the stairs smh
@@damianpharaoh161 oof
Yea, like mikes brother pushed him to win & do what it takes to do so.
Us, Lakers fans we are so lucky to have AR.
He could grow to All-Star levels. Hope he remains confident, keeps his wits around him and keeps persisting. Next step - a big contract and All-Star entry.
Could definitely see an all-star appearance in his future!
@@TriceOfficial Hey Trice! Nice documentary! You genuinely have talent.
He's a sponge absorbs everything just getting better more knowledge especially with LeBron on the squad
@@Value_PilgrimThank you! I appreciate the support.
Consistently averaging 32 points per game in highschool is amazingly insane!
If they win a Championship this could actually be a great documentary
Agreed!
One thing I love about AR 15 is his fearlessness on the court. He's not afraid to take big shots and he's got the skills to back it up. It's always exciting to watch him play.
Love his confidence!
U know wats crazy is that it was unexpected by nobody but it was expected by him he staying committed
Let AR's story show that anybody out there, it doesnt matter where u come from! Put in the work and you can do ANYTHING!!!! 💯💯
That's a fact!
Amen broda
not if you are 5' 5"
@@glennhfriedman4571dont tell that to Mugsey Buggs, with Charlotte or Sud Webb 2x slam dunk nba champion w/atlanta...watching them was like watching a ball w leggs, they cud go anywhere & jump shoot.
My family is from Newark, and I lived there for about 10 years. I will say right now this kid will be the biggest thing that ever comes from that town. And we r all so proud of him. Hope the best for him. I’ll b cheering him on for his entirety in the game and beyond. Let’s go Austin💪🏼🏀
“Put the middle finger up and move on” 👏🏼
I love this player so much! Every time I hear him speak about himself, I get Kobe feels. The drive, the work ethic, the composure... It is so obvious that Kobe would have been so fond of him and would have probably mentored him. It gives me chills because seeing Austin perform at a high level is truly paying tribute to Kobe
Agreed!
@@TriceOfficial and congrats to you for a great video! I truly enjoyed every second of it, great work :)

As a Lakers fan, Reaves is my favorite player on the team and in the league. HE LOVES THE GAME OF BASKETBALL AND HE ISN'T AFRAID TO SHOW IT.
Rui & Reaves, the future core pieces of the Lakers.
Haven’t watched my Lakers much the last couple years, but watching the last couple regular season games up to today….this kid keeps that fan spirit in me!!
Salute to you AR15.. let's go for champ's bruuh..
Let's go for champ's Lakers lakeshow ❤.
as a Laker fan it is nice see another home grown player from Lakers
He's the BEST the most INSPIRING undrafted player in my opinion.... He's MY GOAT !
I love Reaves swaggers
Hard work pays off. Don’t matter your color, background, the money you come from. Work hard and succeed.
Facts!
But height ,, determination and speed do matter
As an OU fan I just love how Reaves overcame all the haters and is now playing for the Lakers. Hell even get better too... Boomer Sooner baby..
“I got a lot of $ht for chasing my dream.” Dang, how sad but on the flip side, good for him for keeping the pedal down and proving EVERYONE wrong. What a great story.
Agreed!
he makes really good mid range shots on top of all his craziness
AR is my guy so happy for him
Crazy to see how reeves made more of a good impact than west broke just his first year young kobe in the making
Such a humble and calm kid, yet so perfectly build for the Lakers on the court. Dude is a whole show.
Agreed! Can't wait to see what he does next season.
Another absolute classic. First Derrick Rose and then Tatum, now this.
You spoil us Trice.
I appreciate the support!
@@TriceOfficial Good lookin out homie!
Even Austin’s manager is a cold blooded mf haha he said “are you complaining?” To the college head coach 😂 COLD!
Facts!
I love him as a Lakers fan. Also, props to Pelinka and Lakers front office. They’ve been spot on in almost every move for the last couple of years.
He will be an All-Star next season... mark it!!!
THIS TAKE DIDNT TURNOUT WELL LOL 😂
Want to see him in Lakers uniform next year ! Give him a contract that he deserves! Lets go Lakers ! He’s a Hooper !
Facts! Pay the man.
Watched him in Arkansas tournaments his whole 4 years of high school. He and his Brother Spencer Reaves were the real deal
People don't realize that his brother is probably just as talented, he's just a little undersized. He still plays overseas and he's had a great career!
@@TriceOfficial I think Spencer Reaves could've played in NBA.He was the best shooter I've ever seen playing high school ball.
@@kyleperkins2368 Agreed! He is insanely talented.
He’s my favorite laker, if the whole team had his heart they would be unstoppable… would give anything to have had him on a Kobe team
I feel like a legend going to school with him!!! He’s a good person no doubt
Another Larry Bird he can shoot dribble playmaker donk to name a few hard work pays off the NBA World wishes him the best the kid is humble he's going to do great 👍 in the League BE WELL N.B.A WORLD 🌎
Beautiful film, great documentary elements mixed with pure golden love for a small-town dude who bet on himself & put in THE WORK! Go, Austin! We're cheering for you! You're the real deal. A big part of the Lakers' team chemistry. Once Lebron co-signs you, you're a Made Man. The world is yours!
Glad you enjoyed!
Being from a small farming town in the mid west, his is a pretty inspiring story! Thanks for putting it all together in this mini doc. Very nice.
Glad you enjoyed!
My new favorite player for sure! AR 15 MVP
From my stomping grounds. Proud that the kid made it out. It's a tragedy that the Razorbacks missed this guy
I grew up about 20 minutes from Newark in Batesville! Austin and I are the same age and played high school ball in the same area. I always knew he was gonna be special and I followed his journey all through college (we were both playing in the NCAA at the same time) and eventually to the NBA. Proud to be able to tell his story and show the world how insane his journey was!
@@TriceOfficial I grew up in Hot Springs but moved to Northern Arkansas couple years ago. But Austin came through and played us in a little Church League type thing. Nobody knew who he was, I thought I was top dog at the gym that day. I was wrong LOL

All the hard work def paid off! Love seeing him play with Lakers. 💛💜
What a nice story.
I am a life long Laker fan (grew up in L.A.) and watching AR play so well at the NBA level is a real feel good situation.
I think Austin will be playing in the All Star Game no later than 2026.
Amazing small movie. This deserves 100k plus views and I'm sure it will get there in time. Austin is seriously good
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
I got chills watching this! Thank you Austin Reeves! Laker 4 Life now lets get a chip! ;)
Glad you enjoyed!
Austin's And-1s are a staple... I'm amaze at how he makes them. Bless this kid with a long, fruitful and injury-free basketball career. 🙏
Agreed!
AUSTIN REAVES keep up the good work. You are in the next rising star with this squad and be the next face of franchise of this one of most known team L.A LAKERS ♥️
🎯
I’m from that part of Arkansas. Basketball is king in these small schools. I spent hours and hours playing basketball in school and practicing at home. Just loving the game. It is is great to see one of our own make it on the NBA level. Best for your future Austin.
No doubt! I grew up in the Batesville area and played in high school & college at the same time as Austin. It was great to see him represent the area and show the kids from those small towns that it’s possible to make it to the league! Thanks for watching!
This guy knows how to finish; a str8 Baller!
I knew he was an nba baller first time I saw him playing college ball.
My Fav Laker Player 🙌🏼💜💛
Mine too 💜💛
He has the potential to be the next superstar in NBA today no doubt.
Agreed!
Reaves is freaking adorable and relatable
he looks like he made it directly from the 50s NBA to the new era!
The minute I saw him play I knew I'd love his game.
Nice blossom in these playoffs.
If I were to play in the NBA, he is the closest I can relate to.
Can't wait to see more of him !
😢I’m not gonna lie. I love ❤his story ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
Facts!
No matter what dont let Reaves leaves the Lakers ,,Jeanie here's the superstar you looking for
I know there will never be another bird but this young man is the closest I have seen his plays look like games of birds I watched it's like a mirror image
I really hope Austin stays in LA but I’ve heard him say in an interview that “basketball is a business” & that he wants to get paid, so I can’t blame him for chasing that bag. But I’m confident that Lakers management see his value & will offer him a contract he can’t refuse. We can’t afford to lose him like we lost Caruso. And he has a lot more value & potential that Caruso
Homie is a walking bucket 🪣 🔥
Facts!!
I never knew Austin was this good. Appreciate the video, I quite enjoyed it.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed!
Simple Guy but Beastly on the Court.
Perseverance & dedication & inheritantly talented is what makes Austin a success!
Facts!
Hey Trice, this was one of the best pieces I've seen on Reeves. The editing was superb. One of the things I keep thinking about is Lebron's post game where Austin told Lebron he's having so much fun and Lebron thought it was neat to be a part of that.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed!
This is really, really, REALLY well done. Congrats from a life long Lakers’ fan. #GoLakers #beatthenuggets #AR15
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed.
Reaves is one of my favorite lakers just showing that anyone around the world can make it big in the NBA all u need is the right mentality hard work dedication and discipline sacrifice & confidence .
This season ain’t even over and I already can’t wait for next season to see how much better he’s gonna be .
Great video my man!
Hilly Billy kobe 4 Life!! 💯
Kobe would be proud of his work ethic.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed.
Austin Reaves I think that you were the best thing the Lakers got I wish mamba would off been alive because he would love your playing and mentality keep it up and hope Lakers don't mess up and lose you because not so many Players stans out from the rest keep it up and you will be the Lakers nvp if you want it and bring the 18 championship to the Lakers and the city off la we need it some things good from are lost of the mamba now we have a team we get ad out off here because he sucks and will be better good job and keep it up because you have a city and a small town supporting you I see you winning championship stay humble it's your turn even LBJ see something because he respects you more then some Players there we have a great team that has heart and one that does not but he is gone from there good job and keep it up Mr mvp from the Lakers and bring it home and you see how many people celebrate in la for winning
Everytime i watch undisputed after a lakers game that austin reeves plays well. I would hear skip bayless say he didnt see in college what he is seeing from austin right how. Its weird to me because when you watch his highlights you see him doing the same stuff in college that he is doing now. He was always supee talented. He just needed a change on a big stage. Bro decided to not hear his name called on draft night for a chance to play with lebron. And he has stepped up to the challenge tremendously. As much as the trades from rob pelinka were needed and really helped elevate the lakers. But Austin reeves growth is very important as to why this team rose from the dead. Thanks for this upload. "He is him" 😂😤😤💪🏿🔥🔥
I agree, you can see a lot of shades of his current game in his time at Oklahoma. I do think he's put in an incredible amount of work to get stronger and become more consistent as a shooter, but there's no doubt that he's been a hooper from the jump!
I appreciate the support! Glad you enjoyed.
Hey This Shows You Don't Have To Come Out Of A Big City.... All It Takes Is WHAT!? HARDWORK!!!!
The key!!
cool, larry bird meets pistol pete, great finding these new super talented players
Maaan I love this guy!
He has a great story!
Very impressive hard working young fella😊

So big Austin fan and glad to see him commit to the Lakers long term. Didnt know he had a Lebrum repair?!? I just had surgery to have mine repaired. Makes me want to push harder in PT. Video was great. Very well done. Hope AR sees it!

This was very well-made! Keep up the great work, Trice. :)
I knew Reaves was the real deal from his first season. That kid can ball! Props to him, his agent and his family for trusting the Lakers offer and refusing other team's offers. He trully plays smart, on and off the court.
Thank you! I appreciate the support!
Very enjoyable video. Nice presentation & narration too.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed!
Love his story....
As a long time die hard lakers fan we struck gold with reaves there’s nothing more that describes hard work ethic than this guy 🫡
Facts!!
Earlier, I said to keep and not trade him. His steady performance proved my point. The young man is heady and plays with conviction every game. His attitude will make him even better. AR-15 , keep firing! You are good.
Thanks for putting this story together.
AR15 had all the moves even way back then.
Truly an inspiring story to learn.
Am just very curious how scouts missed someone like him.
Unfortunately, it probably had a lot to do with the fact that he didn't play on the AAU circuit. They say if you can hoop they'll find you, but that's only partially true in today's amateur basketball landscape. Even though he put up big numbers, I'm sure many college coaches dismissed it due to him being at such a small high school. Just goes to show that there's hoopers everywhere and college scouts have to be willing to check out traditional high school games as well! As for the NBA scouts, I have no idea how they evaluated him so poorly, especially considering he was basically ready to contribute right away. Props to LA for doing their homework and getting a steal!
Thanks for the support! Glad you enjoyed.
