    Here's my favorite part of the interview:
    "I know who the best Hendrix was, I know who the best Django Reinhardt was, I know who the best Yngwie Malmsteen is and one day I want to be the best me that there is. So I think that's really what it's all about. Music can't be viewed as a competition, I don't think it's an Olympic thing where you have to beat the other guy. I think if you have to beat anything it's you a week ago or a year ago, you have to be better then that. So everyone's on their own course, and you never succeed. It's not like you win one day, like "cool now I sound like me, now I'm the best". I think the more you work on music, the more you search music, the more you realize actually you know nothing. And that's a beautiful thing as it gives you more motivation when you wake up the next morning to pick up your instrument with humility and learn some more about it"
    Guthrie is a very inspiring person, both with his amazing music and humble personality. He seems like a very down to earth guy.

    The key to Guthrie Govan's technique is economy in motion; he barely lifts his fingers above the strings' surface. His picking hand and fret hand are in perfect synchronicity. He has to be one of the greatest guitarists of all time!

    Can you even imagine what the reaction would have been if somehow this man were transported back to 1970?! Even today with our senses overstimulated and sated by 30 years of various super shredders GG is still gobsmacking to witness with his total mastery of his instrument. But he also seems somehow to embody the more innocent spirit of the early 70s in his approach, it's just that he performs at a level no-one then could even have imagined.

    • @richardmg9903

      They would consider him being above any guitarist of that era and will probably affect the guitar world of this current time…….but still it’s hard to say that Guthrie Govan is a product of what his been listening to over the years since he was 3 years old

    • @alannkevin
      @alannkevin Год назад +3

      You know, I imagine the same thing. I’ve never liked the old school guitar players from the 80’s to say. I hate the appearance they adopted, like spandex and creepy personality plus their ego ugh I hate slash and Yngwie just because they look like douch$&@ with guitars, specially Slash with that stupid hat and that guitar hanging almost around his knees, geez i know that was kinda the norm back then but damn it why it had to be so cliché, If we transport this guy back to the 80’ with his humble appearance he would have change completely that stereotype

    • @eddiepigg5333
      @eddiepigg5333 Год назад +4

      @@alannkevin if you didn’t live through it, you couldn’t understand. There was a lot of innovation going on in the 80’s and the guitar became a definite focal point in rock music as well as a lot of jazz. Check out Shawn Lane, Al DiMeola (great 70’s albums, too) Joe Satriani and a ton of other guys. I think you’ll dig it because it’s about the music not the fashion, right?

    • @alannkevin
      @alannkevin Год назад

      @@eddiepigg5333 I was born in 1987 so I am not from that era but they still had a strong influence back in the early 90’s. The thing I hated the most was the fashion and their lifestyle. Almost all of them had a very dissolute life and they pushed it like if they were gods, and I’ve never accepted that stupid crap because I believe that if you are one of the lucky ones to get to fame you should take that platform as an advantage to send some positive vibes and encourage the young kids or fans to have a better life and be productive. Some of them played drunk like Slash and some were addicts to the fullest. Steve Morse and Steve Vai and you mentioned some others, were along the few that took it seriously and impacted everyone with their talent and taught us that you don’t have to act like a moron or dress like a drag queen to be a successful guitar player or rock star

The conversation would be an ample lesson for any compassionate Human being. These two guys checked their Egos at the door many snows ago. This encounter would melt plasma..........................Period! Oh to be a fly on THAT wall. Your ear will thank you for listening to Scott's musical message. Please do not misunderstand me, I do not intend to discount Guthrie Govan's unique Mastery of the guitar in any fashion, I'm simply running a beautiful scenario in own picture frame....One Love!

      +Calum Lewis he's good, but he hardly stole the show. If anything I'd say the bassist is nearly at Govan's level, he's shit hot. whoever he is.

      Have you heard the version of Fives on Lee Ritenour's "6 String Theory" album? It's a newer studio version (than Erotic Cakes) with Tal Wilkenfeld (and Govan, not Ritenour.) Just wondering 🤔

      @Harry Roberts well, i heard the newer version first and it's perhaps biased me (to it). I'm a new-ish Govan listener, but I kind of feel i may have started at the top. It's on here.

    GG is far ahead now of most all who have influenced his sound historically. Yet he treads lightly in both style and variance while he continues to progress. This fellow is a gentleman in the present but does in no way allow that achieved level of respect to curtail ['mo and 'betta] sounds to come. Is he technical? Certainly. Does this detract from his latest renderings? NO. Not at all. This fellow is the consummate gentleman who was, is , and will be pressing the envelope of method and style while quite staying out of the way of the finished product. This is known as "Genuine Respect for the Music". Digest, won't you?

    It's true about Govan : he is, to use your expression, outstanding. And you're totally on point regarding Frank Gambale. In fact, I remember seeing an interview with Dweezil Zappa and he stated that, when preparing his chops for the initial Zappa Plays Zappa tour, he turned to a Gambale instructional d.v.d. for picking guidance in order to be able to play his late father's compositions.
