What other great watches are there for under £500?
Glycine Combat Sub gives you a lot for your cash, 200m WR, AR Sapphire, ETA/Selita and super slim :)
Hamilton Khaki Field Automatic.
Pick up a steinhart ocean one. I believe new they're around 460 euros. Used more like $350. I purchased one several years ago and I'd have to say it feels better constructed than my explorer 1. People think it's a Rolex 90% of the time and ask if they can try it on. Eta movement as well.
CWC?
Steinhart, Lorier, Zelos
Lots of people match the watch with their outfit...not many people go to the trouble of matching the dial colour to the landscape!
hahaha.
I match my watch with my wealth. As such, only £5k and above for me.
What a legend
Or matching the landscape to their watch ;-)
Sounds like a Chuck Norris fact in the making lol
The wife said “ more like 4 inches “
😂😂😂😂😂
“She always says that” looks down 😂
sorry chap!........compensating with watches?
@@S-A-M. Because then the viewers can like the comment to let the creator know how great the joke was.
So dry, such good timing.
HAHAHA LITERALLY I WAS GOING TO COMMENT THE SAME THINF Hahahha absolutely brilliant. “She always says that....” *looks down* hahahaha
I’ve had the exact model for over a year and absolutely love it. I’m a US Army Veteran and love the military heritage of the watch and company.
You get a much more natural flow when you do outside-vidoes. Please go out more, it suits you! :)
Yeah I've noticed that. I feel the indoor videos come across really forced. I much prefer being outside and the content is more natural.
yes I agree, even the one in cafes, or the watch shopping eps feel more natural
My dad gifted me this watch, and I love it. Very simple and something that I can wear every day. This is the watch that has gotten me into the watch scene and appreciating watches.
I’ve got the regular black dial. Owned it since December. I must say I love it and it has become my daily. As I’m in lockdown I don’t need to wear anything fancy, it’s small and therefore not really cumbersome. I’ve still not got bored of the novelty of winding it. It’s my first manual wind and it’s made me want to get another. I’ve been looking into the vast array of watches that use the 6498 movement.
The newer Aviation Pilot Pioneer has that movement, Im really happy with mine 👌🏼☺️
I can't sincerely think of another better watch at this price point. I had one, totally regret selling it! I'll get another one as soon as I figure which color! About the episode, I love the way you present the watch, just walking about in the middle of nowhere, talking to us like we are walking there with you! That is simply amazing! If it's possible, do more videos like that! Congrats on the great content!
I’ve been wearing Hamilton’s for 20 years. They are my favorite brand far and away over any other. It’s not a bang per buck issue, they are just the best looking to me.
Adrian these drone shots are SUPER impressive, I'm just glad to be here for it. Cheers man (also upload your photos to your website so I can rip some for a wallpaper)
Great video as always. For those who don't want to remember to wind their watches there is an option. Hamilton Khaki Field Automatic. It's been my daily driver for over a year now and I have to say. It's a great piece! However after watching that video I want to switch to Khaki Mechanical 😂
Same here. The Khaki Automatic 38 on a bracelet is one of the best watches in my collection.
Same here, bought myself one for Christmas, I've worn it every day since
Why do u want to switch to mechanical?
Glad I’m not the only one sporting the lock down hair cut😉 super video, lovely setting. 👍
Haha. Don’t look too closely at the hair! Turns out cutting hair is much harder than it looks.
@@BarkandJack I wouldn’t worry, I look like Peppermint Patty from Snoopy this time around!
Hello Adrian. You probably won't see this comment now, but after seeing this video I started saving for this very watch and yesterday I bought it. All of my other watches, apart from a Casio F-91W that I gave to my son, have been gifts or inheritances, so I feel that the Hamilton is my first real foray into watch collecting and it is down to the strength of this video. Next? The Hamilton Khaki Murph (38mm) perhaps, or the Baltic MS-002.
My Hammie is the bronze mechanical khaki. So many people compliment the piece. The price is somewhat higher than the other Ham's but you get an impressive looking piece of kit.
Ouuu OK! Adrian! Loving the outside VIBES! Also! When you went inside - did you get a hair cut?! Your hair looks so good. Great video as always darling!
Scouring the comments for someone else to ask the question. 😅👍 ✂️
A field watch review done in the field? Finally! Now how about a dive watch review deep below the waves?
Would love to see that
I have about 12 mechanical watches in my collection with lots more expensive than the Hamilton but this khaki field mechanical of mine keeps the best time of any at just over a second per day and has done so since I got it a year ago
I love the Hamilton khaki mechanical. It belongs in any watch collection. I wear mine all the time. In my opinion you have to get the manual wind. It just makes it nostalgic and fun.
Just got a grey nato for my new khaki because I loved the look of it in this vid!
She always says that! Brilliant! 🤣
Just finished watching a video from Nico Leonard, he also mentioned the Hamilton Khaki - great watch. I have a Victorinox Inox, great watch.
Agreed, I’ve had one for about 5 years and worn it pretty much every day and not been pampering it . Not missed a beat and takes anything I can throw at it
You really make the white dials look amazing. I’ve been eyeballing this watch for a couple years now. Maybe i oughta pull the trigger on it soon. 🔥
Weirdest thing, I was wearing the same reference number on my wrist when this video popped up 😄 Awesome, keep it up Adrian!
Haha. Great timing. 🙌🏻
I've had a khaki field mechanical for around a year now, and I feel slightly conflicted by it. See, I've found a perfect use case for it - and it's not as a field watch.
Instead, this is the watch you pick when you're meeting someone new and you want to be sure not to make a negative impression:
It's not too big, it's not too small, it's not polished, golden, blue or red or in any way at all flashy. So if you have a job interview, date, business meeting or whatever, and you don't know who you're up against, this watch is perfect.
If they don't care about watches, they won't be pissed off at your bling. If they're vaguely inclined, they might notice that it's not quartz and maybe that it looks purposeful. If they're a watch nerd, they might know it and appreciate it.
So where's the conflict? In myself. I find myself thinking, every time, that this is a £300 field watch that's a worse field item than a £50 G-Shock. It's just, not very good for the job it was meant to do anymore. In fact, I'd argue it's not a field watch at all - instead it's a modern day dress watch for the person who wants to draw as little attention to their watch as possible.
So, I never wear it in my day to day, only bringing it out for the occasional "first impression outfit", wherein I want my watch to not piss anyone off. And that, for a former military watch, is conflicted.
Where, how and who do you meet that would be "pissed off" by a watch? If someone is pissed off because you're wearing a certain watch or anything else you might want to look for better company. I wear everything from a Casio f-91 to a Rolex gmt and no one has ever said anything. From all the years I've been wearing watches I had one complement me for my Datejust and another asked me how I liked the size of a 32mm Timex I was wearing. No one cares.
Love this watch. On days I don’t wear it, I still spend 20 seconds with it, winding it. It’s the one watch I have a distinct relationship with.
I have the green dial date version. Love it. Accuracy is superb. Mine runs +1.5 seconds per day. I've actually come to like manual wind over automatic. It also allows for a slimmer case. And this one produces a very satisfying clicking as you wind it.
When I saw the title, I thought, it had to be Hamilton, my 2nd Swiss watch that I brought with my own money (after a Longines dress piece) is the Khaki Field Titanium PVDed. So light, better PVD than some of the Rolex custom I’ve seen, the eta mod 2824-2 is robust with extended power reversed.
3 years ago was £400, now I see it for £700 #shocking
The double strap holes for the Hamilton “H” 2 pin buckle was a nice touch.
You introduction of this manual whine piece is making me go back to looking to add another Hamilton, especially with Covid, what does a watch lover do but switch up the straps on his/her collection.
Lovely snow Forrest hike shot adding to the vid.
The Khak defines field watch for me...this is such an awesome watch. - This video is beautiful, I had no idea Scotland every got so much snow 😊👍
As a serial flipper I've owned then all. However, I keep coming back to the Hamilton Khaki Mechanical. Purchased this model today, delivery on Wednesday. It's a beautiful watch. Enjoyed the review. Thank you.
yup yup - I have this watch (and the black PVD one) and love it's versatility and simplicity. Works well with a plethora of straps and can be worn with pretty much anything.
Hi mate, I'm torn between purchasing the PVD version or the white dial, which have you found yourself using/liking more longer term?
@@thomasdillon3008 Hi Thomas - I can't say that I prefer one over the other, it's the reason I own both 😅The black one has rugged look to it which I love but perhaps not as versatile as the white one which can be worn with pretty much anything. You cannot go wrong with either - just pick the one YOU prefer and wear it in good health. I also have an older version with green dial and date complication - they are that fun! 🤗
i bought one last week and love it, good video BJ
nice, enjoy it!
Loved the video, huge fan on the snow crunch of every step 😌
Point of order, sir. The H50 reduced the ETA's beat rate from 28,800 to 21,600 to increase the power reserve. Personally, that is why I searched high and low for the older versions that used the ETA. Unfortunately, the white dial didn't exist with the ETA.
Loved your video as always mate!!
Probably the best watch RUclips channel around 😉
I have this very watch with the green nato strap it came with. My daily wearer as an electrician.
I have the PRX with the green waffle dial which again is a lot of watch for around £500.
Both seem to get more wrist time than BB58 and Globemaster.
i totally agree. in my opinion, the hamilton khaki field in all its variations is the best mechanical watch you can get around 400-500 €. i own the 42 mm automatic version and it is definitely going to be a keeper in my collection. the eta movement runs within cosc standards, the watch works with all kinds of straps and the design is just timeless. so what more can you ask for at this price point? as you said, it is a no-brainer!
Hi, really liked the piece, I love the simplicity and clarity of the Hamilton. Let me give some context just so you understand I'm not a watch snob, I have a great collection of Swiss watches, mainly Rolex, many similar to your passions such as Kermit, older sub, Pepsi, Daytona etc. BUT, one of my daily wears is almost identical to the Hamilton, maybe smaller, but doesn't need winding as it's quartz. It's a lorus sports, has day and date and I've picked up a cream dial and blue dial version from eBay for about £20 each. On a nato they look great and very similar to the Hamilton, just no winding and saving circa £400 , can't argue with that !!!
Absolutely love Hamilton. I got my Khaki King on bracelet for £460.... looks great on bracelet, leather, rubber and canvas strap. Nearly sold it to fund a Sinn purchase but changed my mind.
I picked up the Seiko SPB155J1 last week for £488!... Stunning watch! But I also have the Hamilton, which I got for £295, so I'm happy both ways. 👍🏼
I really appreciate what you are doing with the camera work. As a photographer I know how difficult this stuff is. Keep up the great work!
Funnily enough I’ve been looking at this watch a lot the past few weeks. If you like this type of watch the Boldr Venture is also worth a look - a bit more of a funky design, Titanium case and it’s an auto.
Also better Water resistance I think the boldr has 200m ?
I was deciding between the Boldr and the Khaki Field and ended up going with the Hamilton because I’ve read many reviews that Boldr has had some pretty bad QC issues.
@@t-murdock that’s interesting. I hadn’t heard that - I’ll look into it!
Great video! I like the way you worked in the plug for your awesome straps! It is very natural and does detract from the main content. The outside scenery is GORGEOUS!
Really enjoyed the review... best part of receiving gifts is returning the favor and giving back with something better, then the gifts you receive will also get better!
"She always says that..."
*DED*
Every time I see this watch it immediately reminds me of my Orient Defender One.
I just acquired this exact watch a month ago!
I’ve loved every minute of it so far. It’s a really understated piece.
Loved the video. Have no need for the watch but I could listen to you talk about it all day.
Great review, I own this particular watch (white dial) and the automatic in black as well, I own much pricier watches and these two are my favorites, absolutely fenomenal watches and the 80hr power reserved is fantastic…I recently discovered another good watch at only $439 USD with a Sellita SW200 movement, the Bunker from the Swiss Watch Co.
Buy a Nite watch, I've had mine for years and it's amazing. GTLS illumination and best of all it's made in the UK...
Hamilton are sooo beautiful watches!! And the price-value proposition from a Swiss made watch!! How could you go wrong?! These are just perfect for an every day/casual/weekend watch!! Just phenomenal timepieces!!
An exclusive ETA-modified movement such as H-50 only available for brands under TheSwatchGroup base from ETA 2801-2 with 80hours of power reserve. Nothing beats that at this price point really 👌
It’s a great watch but for the same money( $350 US ) I bought a Seiko King Turtle that has sapphire cristal, ceramic bezel, great lume, 200m water resistant, screw down crown and it’s automatic,. I’m a huge fan of your channel, greetings from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷
This exact reference arrived in the mail yesterday; blown away with the value. Great video as always!
I like the fact the title has no question mark, without doubt the best Swiss Watch under £500
Had mine for about a month and it keeps spot-on perfect time. I also think the white dial looks great. It also looks great on a strap (insert segue here). But, seriously, this watch is a strap monster. Really enjoying it. Thanks for the review - it gave me a nudge to buy the watch. Glad I did.
I have literally watched 30 second on the dot (dunno how I hit it on the nail) and can already tell I like this video! Looks amazing with the snow and trees! OK, back to watching!
ive actually been thinking about this watch for a long time as it has some sensible points of interest considering the price point. even if you dont like it, its not the end of the world unlike burning 10k on an omega
Another great video brother. I need to pick one of these up! Congrats on the new watch, very generous of your friend Ben BTW 👍🏼
A classic bark and jack video! Love it!
Thank buddy.
It's a fantastic looking watch, I just wish they would ditch that 24 marker; the clock is never 24, especially not in the military, and you do not need that scale on a watch anyway. I just find it silly, and that goes for the explorer II as well :-)
I agree absolutely. I'm wearing mine on the bracelet since it came out like this, and for my day to day it is perfect, so perfect I'm getting the white dial next.
I'm glad to hear someone else that prefers automatic watches to those that have to be wound.. I grew up in the 60s and early 70s with those and really don't want to go back. Anyway, I have the Hamilton Khaki Field Automatic and absolutely love it!
I love these outdoor video's!! Really cool where you are going with the channel!!
This was (and still is) my first swiss mechanical watch. I love it
haha! I love that stop at 2:08, where he is like: "And if we go back to the real world for a moment [..]"
I have the black pvd one which looks cool. I also love winding this watch, the feel and sound are so satisfying. Only annoying thing is how reflective the crystal is
Nice work man. Love the snow. Was lucky to get quite a bit on the east coast too. Haven't sledged like that in years ! I love my 38mm Khaki Field Automatic too...Reminds me very much of the first generation Omega Aqua Terra in terms of the quality of construction... And it'a automatic (easier) and smaller gaps between the lugs and bracelet (nicer with your B&J straps), sea-through back (fancy!), 100m water resist (aquatic!) and was only £416 when I got it last year at a discount on a steel bracelet (bargain)....Lovely in every way. Hamilton are making some fantastic watches.
You can also consider the CWC Mellor tribute hand wound field watch as am alternative, it is also a functional miltary watch with pedigree and that they have also served and issued to British military forces
I saw this "polar" white dial on a Hamilton mesh strap. I loved it. That's my plan now.
Your own-brand NATO looks fantastic on this watch, great pairing 👍
Thanks a lot Simon.
The Hamilton Khaki actually has a Khaki, or Brown color..got one after watching this video and I love it!!
Great video! But I have a small question. You said the H-50 was in fact an ETA 2801-2. But isn't it more like a modified version of it? As far as I know there were early versions of the Khaki Field with the 2801-2 and then they switched to the H-50 which has a bit less bph but more power reserve. Essentially it is the hand wind equivalent to the Powermatic 80.
Greetings from Luxembourg!
You said it all. Watches that just tell the time. One of my favorite watches is my 1943 World War 2 black Faced Omega.
The dial is simple but attractive. It is a 15 jewel manual wind watch. It keeps excellent time.
I just bought the black-dial version a month ago. Keeps excellent time and I find myself looking down at it a lot. Very handsome, practical piece.
Great video!
I agree... I'd just spring for the slight bit extra cost and get the Khaki field automatc. I tried one on once and still keep thinking I really need to just impulse buy on at some point. They are so worth it in my opinion.
One thing I do want to say about hand wound watches. This is not an issue with watches who have massive power reserves. But when it comes to automatics with a 38hr power reserve, those watches if you're not paying attention lose a lot of time. When your job keeps you at a desk and you're also prone to taking off your watch and walking around the office, you do start running into the risk of the automatic movement not moving around to keep the time. At least with a manual wound watch, if you're even a little bit figity with the things around your hands, you'll probably end up keeping this watch topped off throughout the day. Less can be said about automatic watches, especially when they have a scerw down crown.
Absolutely incredible pieces, especially at that price. I love the white dial, I have a black dial hamilton but think I'll sell and trade for the white soon.
This white dialled version with mustard lume and triangular markers has hints of the JLC Geophysic
These types of videos are the ones that mean disaster for my wallet. Thanks!!
Haha, I know that feeling.
This video influenced me to get this watch. I love it!
Congrats buddy.
Great Review. Would love to see you review the Ginault Ocean Rover. Controversy is good :)
Thanks mate. I've actually already done a couple of videos on them, but I took them down after all the drama around Ginault.
@@BarkandJack thats a shame. It's definitely a watch that stirs alot of emotions. Those who have handled one all know what an amazing quality watch it is, besides the controversy.
@Abe Froman have you owned or held one?
@Abe Froman Sausage KING of Chicago? Love it 😉
I’ve always loved these watches but have never had one, i went the SARB route first and never got around to this bad boy
I've always recommended Hamilton to everyone who are looking for their first entry level Swiss made watch. I don't even own one myself but have always seen the value for money with the brand
Great looking watch that is timeless! In a similar way as an Explorer! Great value and if I may say so, looks great on your straps! I have a pilots license and when I fly, it’s the Hamilton Khaki Navy GMT that I use. The legibility is key and why! Great upload as always
I have an automatic /grey blue dial variant which is 40mm .. solid watch
A great video Adrian! Enjoy the snow 😁
Obviously there isn't quite the history there, but the new Swiss Watch Company Bunker model field watch is worth checking into. This Hamilton is classic, and I love how many variants are available.
My Jazzmaster white dial, pre owned under £500.A little beauty and auto.
Wow, so refreshing with that landscape! I really like they left out the 'Khaki' on the dial here, a version without the fauxtina would be a homerun for me ✌
Just picked up the black pvd one for 276£ from Ernest Jones in the sale. Win win!
Automatic>manual wind completely agree
I have the brown case and brown dial. Sensational watch.
Love this piece and one of fav into my collection...great content as usual mate!
I agree the Hamilton Field watch is a good watch for that price, plus your friend is a top fella. It's so diverse as it goes with all different straps and that a great selling point! I'm so jealous Adrian look at you walking through a winter wonderland whilst it's pouring raining here 😭. How you liking the new Sony mirrorless camera?
I LOVE my Hamilton Khaki King (day-date). My ONLY gripe with Hamilton field watches is no screw down crown.
Love this timepiece. However, 38 mm seems a little tiny for a man's wrist, doesn't ?
As I type this I am wearing a Mellor 72, £449, mechanical, Swiss movement, makes a nice soul mate for a G10
I wear the black version of this watch with your black NATO every day and I love it.
if you don't want to get into the minefield of buying a vintage GG-W-113 this is undoubtedly the next best thing. A good alternative is the Smiths Everest Expedition which is an auto.
I have this watch and was considering selling it (just thinning out collection) but this sort of made me fall in love with it all over again :)
