You are a true educator!!! I am a girl who is really not into hair at all!!! I've always had dreads, fades, and I've been doing the sponge for the past 2 years...for about a week now, I have decided that I want to go back to my fade, but it is hard to find a consistent/fly barber in my city...I also want to try color(s) (which I have never done in my life)...any suggestions would be great!!! Thank you for explaining the tools, it really helps...I don't know what my hair future holds, but one thing for sure---you'll be my teacher!!! I appreciate all of your knowledge!!! I have been a educator for 15 years and you are a true educator!!! Not everyone can explain what they do the way you do--with ease and class...you can tell you love what you do...I so want to be a client of yours!!! You are so fly!!!

Brodie, since you work in a shop, do you use soap and water to clean the combs and guards etc, dry them, then put it in the barbercide? Seems time consuming, or do you have like 10 pairs of everything and then at the end of the day you clean it all at once?

    • @KevvThaw

Matthew Hanks it is a fade blade. The crunch blade refers to the cutting blade though. While the fade blade refers to the top blade

The Barber's Table thank you for clarifying, i appreciate it! I just started following you. I’m listening to you on the Rum Barber podcast right now, lol. Thanks for the great content. I’m not a barber but I’ve been fading my own hair for 20 years and my 21 year old son’s his whole life. I’m looking to step up my cutting game lol. I recently picked up an Andis foil and started doing bald fades for the first time. Having more contrast from short to long/light to dark makes a huge difference.

To be a barber is $11,000 to start with most important fact.
2nd: learn how to manage money
3rd:Educate yourself on how to do taxes as a independent contractor
    4th: Master cutting hair
5th: Manage prices for cuts for example comb over should cost more then a bald taper.
    6th: Have communication skills
7th: Choosing your clients carefully once your skills are up.
Most youtubers speak on the fun part. The parts people already know. People want to cut hair see the money see the success but as a barber man so much more goes in to cutting besides tools, skills and clients lol. Real talk
As a barber these are important things to learn besides cutting hair. Cutting hair is a factor but learning the business aspect of the industry is key. Benefits aren't paid for you pay out of pocket. You can be a master barber with huge cliential but fail because you owe taxes, you have no benefits and you not making money gains charging a general price or median price for all cuts losing money

New to watching your videos but how can I start cutting hair in a shop?

    • @KevvThaw
      @KevvThaw  4 года назад +1

Best way to start, if you're already licensed, is by walking into the shop and asking about their hiring process. But before you do any of that id go in there to just check out the vibe in a shop to see if YOU want to work there. Every job isn't the right one for you.

The Barber's Table what’s the best way to get licensed?? And how long does it take ?

    • @KevvThaw

O Ryan that all depends on where you live, and your situation. Many go to school, others get into apprenticeship programs if their state allows it. Google search what state board requirements are necessary for your state.
