A great video Jason, nice scenery and a beautiful view. These trails are really awesome and you are damn fast with your hard tail buddy. Great work. Thanks for sharing and have a nice week. Ride on🤙
Yep, it definitely belies it’s budget cost. Think I paid £1100 for it and although I have upgraded it, most bits have been more cosmetic than actually improving it’s ability. Yeah, you could argue that better brakes, wheels, cranks, bars, etc., improve performance but not massively. Biggest upgrade has been putting a dropper post on it
This loop no matter how many times you record on it is still fantastic! You certainly did have a big part in me getting the HT, for which I am grateful! Bloody love it!! As for why I love it, well I really shouldn't. Harder to ride, body feels like it has taken a beating by the end, lose all speed when hitting a rocky section, climbing is painful compared to the ebike. Yet, even with all that, I have hit features I didn't even consider on the full sus, confidence has come back in bucket loads since riding the HT. Crazy as this sounds, it makes me feel more connected to the trail, in a raw way. Totally blown my mind what it is capable of, and truth be told it is also a stunning bike to look at, basic, simple, yet stunning and aggressive ❤️ If I had to make a choice between bikes where one had to go, I know which one I would keep... Great video mate, and thank you again for making me see the light. Also think me getting the HT and you having yours will result in Marc and Jonathan getting one, dare to say Shaun will as well 😜 Great video, you fizzing gravy producer 🤣🤣
Thanks mate and yeah, it's such a great loop. Nothing bonkers but enough bits to keep you on your toes mixed with some incredible singletrack. Plus, as you know, such beautiful scenery that you end up going back and taking the family with you for a walk, as you just want them to see how incredible it is too. Hardtails are definitely harder going and they do beat you up on rougher trails but somehow that's part of the appeal. May take you longer to get down them but by the bottom, you feel a real sense of achievement (as you mend the pinch flats and put ice on your wrists 😂). I can see Marc and Jonathan being tempted but Shaun? 😂
I still don’t understand the difference between gravel and CX bikes other than a new marketing ploy to sell CX bikes. Regardless, neither have any appeal whatsoever to me 😃
Just replaced my 10+ year old On One HT with a new Nukeproof Scout. Love hardtails. So versatile and they make a lot of trails feel more exciting because you don't get that 'magic carpet' effect like on a full sus. Better for eating miles on cycle tracks etc. and drop the seat and you've got a bmx bike, way better for jumps.
Pissin fizzy gravy! 😂😂😂😂 Glad you're better mate, great vid from a beautiful area! Just about to do my edit of this ride, funnily enough where you broke your toe I actually rode into that tree... Thought I could scoot round by it and didn't see a low branch! 🤦♂️ Bloody hurt.
Thanks mate. That corner is a swine as you go into it blind and there's obstacles galore. I've caught that rock with my foot on a couple of occasions, as have others. Stupid bloody rock 😂
Perfect trails for a the hardy, they look like good old fun. And you answered a question that’s been on my mind, Orange Alpine or Orange 5 Evo, think you confirmed my suspicions.
Really are lovely trails, a great mix too with open moorland singletrack through to quite technical rocky stuff. I totally stand by my statement about people believing they need more aggressive bikes than they actually do. Thing with long travel bikes is you need to be a lot more physical with them than with trail bikes, which conversely (through having less travel) are more forgiving. End of the day, a Five's not exactly a short travel bike either 👍
Hello Jason, another excellent video, ta. Gotta love a hardtail. I'm going there this weekend. Any top trail tips that you wouldn't mind sharing would be greatfully appreciated.
Thanks mate. Top trail tip is after you have done the loop (and include the bit up to the Masts and down if you can), it really is worth the effort to climb back up to finish with the trail that is the first climb, and then drop off the road by the woods - watch out for that corner though 😃. To do the last descent, don't climb up the way I did but carry on round the Panorama, past where you park the cars and look for a trail that climbs up. You may have to push up a bit but it's worth it 👍
I didn't think i missed my hardtail until i had a go at Christian's, now i wished i had one 😃 great video mate, it looks like that part of the escarpment that i crashed on has been repaired, love this loop 👍
It’s loops like this that make you realise just how cool they are. They have kind of repaired it but it’s not quite got the shoulder it used to have, is a bit off camber and demands concentration 👍
Hard tail with 120 perfect. Keep it simple, used to have a van no air-conditioning no electric windows not even a radio, loved driving it. Same goes for Hard tail.
Yeah, I really don't think it needs more. It's a RockShox Revelation so a cracking fork, perfectly suited to the bike really (and I guess they designed it for 120mm travel so who am I to argue?).
Thanks mate, really appreciate that. I try to make my videos a bit different to others, mainly by prattling on throughout them; not everyone’s cup of tea I guess but hopefully some like it 👍
It really is; just getting away from everything and everyone, to somewhere remote and beautiful, and it makes you realise just how precious and wonderful life is 👍
Found your channel after recently getting a hardtail after selling up a few years ago. I love the look of this loop weres the best place to park mate? Full of covid at the moment so im binge watching the channel haha
Nice one, hardtails are so much fun (type two fun at times 😃). Sorry to hear you've got the lurgy, lot of people have it at the moment and it sounds grottier than the variant I had in January (snotty nose for half a day). I usually park on the Panorama, a road that runs around the escarpment. To get there, I drive through Trevor towards Llangollen and turn up past the Sun Inn (on the north side of the road), follow it up and when it meets the Panorama, turn right and just round the first bend, there's parking galore along the side of the road. If you give it a go, let me know how you get on but I can all but guarantee that you will love it - it would be hard not to 😃👍
Thanks mate. I didn't like the SDG one that came with my Orange so replaced it with a WTB Silverado, which is probably the comfiest saddle I have had 👍
It's absolutely fantastic mate. If you look on Strava, search for Stopadoodledoo and you will find the gpx for it. I've recorded this loop (or similar) a few times including one including a lap of Degla - a huge ride that one though!
Hi, I’m rubbish at stuff like that but you will be able to find the route on my Strava page (search for Stopadoodledoo). I always park on The Panorama, above Trevor and Llangollen 👍
Two things ....one this makes my desire to buy a new HT stronger (please stop it, my wife will murder me) second.....I really must ride there. I'm like a stuck record. Really glorious trails and great riding 👍. "Pissing fizzy gravy" was the icing on the cake 🤣 foul sounding cake that to be fair.

Good call on persuading Christian to get a HT. I really don’t understand gravel bikes, they are just a bit too niche for my liking.
