Beating the post holiday blues
All good things come to an end, and it's sometimes hard to find the motivation to get back to normal life, normal riding spots, etc.
I knew that if I was to get my motivation back, there was one place I needed to go, and it didn't disappoint.
Embrace the rain, the mud, the sliding around because we sometimes don't realise how lucky we are in this country, having so many amazing riding spots.

4000 Metres of descending - from the Mountain to the Med | Switch-Backs.com

This was a huge and rather incredible ride, starting at 2400 metres above sea level, descending 1000 metres to breakfast and then continuing all the way to the Mediterranean. Already tired from the previous days of riding, this one was tough going but so worth it; the feeling of dipping a toe in the sea after such an epic ride is something that will stay in my memories for many years. This is t...

Day four of our trip to the Sierra Nevadas in Spain with Switch-backs.com and this was a big one, involving a fair bit of climbing but worth every bit of effort. There were three main trails on this day: Flowtastic is, as the name suggests, a flowy trail that goes on for miles on end through stunning open land Hurt Locker was rocky with switchbacks, a lot more technical in nature than Flowtasti...

One of the main draws of riding in the Sierra Nevadas with Switch-Backs.com is the sheer number and variety of trails you ride. On this day, we moved over to the hills above Lanjaron and rode three incredible trails, all different in nature. This was after starting with a local to Bubion one called Wakey Wakey, which lives up to it's name! If you want to experience riding incredible natural tra...

This is the trip that I have been looking forward to for months on end; riding in the Sierra Nevadas in Southern Spain with Switch-Backs.com, quite possibly the best MTB holiday I have ever been on. @ElectricMountainBiker , @TrailFinder, Tony and I headed out for a weeks riding in stunning scenery, in amazing weather and on incredible trails; every trail we rode was perfection, our hosts and gu...

I'm off to Spain again in a few weeks and will be taking my Orange Alpine so in preparation and to ensure there's nothing that needs fixing prior to going, I took it out on my favourite local loop. Funnily enough, this is the bike I would always have taken not so long ago but of late, I've not really used it much and have chosen to ride my Orange P7 instead. But for this loop and much of the ot...

An early morning blast around Eastridge Jonathan (@MTB_Derbyshire) and his wife were holidaying in Shropshire and lucky him, she was happy for him to take his bike with him and get out on some rides. As such, we chatted about meeting up at Eastridge on Thursday morning; I, however, must have missed the bit where he said to meet at 7am! So, up I got at 5am, drove down and we had an absolute blas...
Making a stupid idea reality - a brutal ride

Lockdown seems a long time go now, a distant memory. At the time, I was riding around Chester and to be honest, getting very tired of riding the same flat trails all the time. In the distance, I could see the hills so hatched a plan to go and ride in them. In the end, Lockdown was lifted and I never got round to it, but the seed of that plan was sown and it's been in the back of my mind ever si...

I didn't expect to enjoy this ride. It was sold to me as an XC ride starting with a big climb and then a bit of exploring, some moorland trails and only one descent. Probably not selling it to you as a prospective viewer either really. However, not only did I absolutely love the riding (pure old school singletrack for much of it) but we basically laughed and joked around all day. As a result, t...
The trails are riding so good - dry at last!!

Remember when the trails were last dry? I actually struggled to recall, all I could think of was Spain back in February. My mate Tony contacted me on Friday evening about going for a ride so I suggested he headed down from North Lancashire to sample some of North Wales's finest; he was not disappointed. The conditions being dry and dusty just added to the day
Mountain Biking, YouTube and Technology - where I draw the line
Просмотров 8495 месяцев назад
For me, one of the beauties of mountain biking is that it allows you to get out into the countryside, away from the modern world and all it's trappings but as time moves on, as with everything else in life, technology is influencing this great sport/hobby. Much of it is in a very positive way that doesn't detract at all from why I love mountain biking and as time goes on, it is bound to enhance...

Enjoying riding regardless of RUclips - even in spite of it It's quite easy at times when making RUclips videos about mountain bikes to fall into the trap of thinking about what do do and where to ride in order to have a video that will hopefully pull in views, sometimes to the detriment of your enjoyment of riding. The most bizarre MTB video ever? Probably. I don't 'do' normal though. Normal is dull.

It’s the long dusty descents I miss; not dusty (far from it) but I am going to head up the Lakes and do a big ride soon, some hefty descents up there. Definitely harder to get motivated to ride in the winter in the UK. Like you say once you've thrown your leg over the bike it's ace. Surprisingly I'm really getting into night riding, gives a totally different riding experience on familiar trails, although getting usable footage is a challenge. I've switched from chest mount to chin mount and this has improved the stabilisation in low light.... You know what they say..... Winter miles equals summer smiles.

Plus, by the time we got to the ridgeline down to the beach, my brake pads in the rear were shot, leading to the lever pulling back to the bar on a couple of occasions; nerve racking to say the least (especially given how quick you picked up speed and how loose the trails were). @Stopadoodledoo 2 месяца назад

Hi mate. Flights aside (as the cost of those are dependant on when you go, etc), we paid €595 for 7 nights. For that you get: - Transfers to and from the airport (2 hours drive) - Accommodation in a lovely house/apartment with all amenities (incl. WiFi, kitchen, 2 bathrooms, 3 bedrooms, verandah with the best views ever) - Uplifts in mini-buses with specifically made bike trailers - full professional guiding on the trails, including training and advice as and when required - As Christian found out, they'll even have a go at fixing your bike if it breaks! It's self catered but as mentioned above, there's decent kitchens in the accommodation and to be honest, the food in the bars and restaurants in Bubion is so damned good and so damned cheap compared to what you pay over here, our kitchen went untouched. Beer was about €4 a pint; we did go out for a few beers in the evenings but also stocked up on beer in the convenience store to keep in the fridge - cost pennies!
