    It doesn't matter what the video comments say. If Rickson Gracie wants to pass your guard....the man is gonna pass your guard, period.

    It's amazing to see in the comment section that there are lots of RUclipsrs who know more about guard passing than a 9th degree black belt.

    I had the pleasure of rolling with master Rickson when he travelled to Aus in 2019 for various seminars. To say HE was humbled is an understatement, he thought he would pass my guard with ease.. Little did he know I trained in bjj for 15 months in Rio in 2016, as a White belt and received my Blue just before leaving, training a total of 11 months. Alot was due to my natural athleticism and high fight IQ!! I just find most combat sports quite easy to pick up. Even when I was 18 and started boxing, i was holding my own with guys who had been training for 10 years. My speed and power was mind blowing for alot of guys, i just needed abit of defence work but within 6 months i had fought 3 amateur fights and won all, 2 by KO the other by an easy decision. I wanted to put him away but my coach just wanted me to stick to my jab and body shots, as I needed more time in the ring. Every time I throw headshots the chance of me KO'n guys is very high. Just like in Bjj, when I'm on my back I have a crazy ability to explode into submissions many cant, sometimes I scare myself and that is no joke!! I'm not saying i scared master Gracie but he knew I wasn't a normal noob blue belt and had this look like WTF this guy is a beast!!
    After training he asked if I was ever in the US to shoot him an email so we can tee up some rolling time. He said something that I already knew, if i dedicate all my spare time to mastering the easy art of BJJ, the sky is the limit for me... He mentioned that I reminded him of his late brother Ryan Gracie, said I have alot of fire in my belly and if channeled correctly I could do something magical.. His words, not mine!! Anyway, he as expected caught me in a beautiful northsouth choke, i tapped and thought alright that was good, let's see you try that again Red belt!! I told him please go for that again, I know where I went wrong. Indeed he tried again, set up differently but I knew what he was planning, i went into my flow state and could see everything in slow motion. Like I previously mentioned, my fight IQ is way above normal and I made all the correct moves to prevent him from getting it again. He got side control but couldn't do much in the 5 mins we had left so he just decided to stand up and move to the next student, pretending he was rushed for time. Both he and I know he was frustrated with my defence skills.
    A tip to anyone who has an exceptionally high fight IQ like myself, please make the most of it, and dedicate yourself to your chosen art!! I'm 23 and now, and I know 100% that I will be the UFC WW champ by the age of 30. I haven't fought in MMA before but i know I'd adapt very quickly to it. Esp with my speed and one shot KO power with both hands and feet. It's enivatable!! Im a physical beast standing at 6,2ft, I walk around at 192lb at roughly 10% body fat, so a cut to 170lb is easy work. I will defend my belt 4 times, step up and fight for the 185lb title and if all goes well be the first double champ in both those divisions. At 34 I'd like to debut at LHW and see how I go against the bigger lads, I won't need to cut weight, so my blistering hand speed and one shot KO power will be there for 25 mins. Unlike those in that division currently. Its not outside the realms of possibility but I could be a UFC champ at WW, MW, LHW!! It's not going to be an easy road but this is the path I've chosen. It's enivatable, I see greatness on the horizon for my future, as does Master Gracie, my coach, and my mother.
    BTW I'm full of shit, none of this happened. I'm the opposite to all of the above. Hope this had alot of people cringing, thinking this mother fucker is delusional!!

    It is 2018 and the "gracie gift" pass is still being taught - amazing. No disrespect to Rickson, he is the man. Maybe the full lesson will have some details I've never seen before to avoid the triangle.
    Edit: I've noticed that the people who are most successful at doing this pass to me are people with thick upper bodies (i.e. people who are hard to triangle to begin with).

    • @pentaj3036
      @pentaj3036 6 лет назад +2

      Our association head is a Rickson black belt and we are taught this pass. The key, as I understand it, is to keep your weight down on the leg you are passing. This immobilizes the hips of the guy on the bottom and there's just no room to setup a triangle. When we drill it it is a very high pressure pass and is very uncomfortable for the guy in guard. Not saying it's impossible to catch a triangle here, but I haven't seen it happen at my club yet when the pass is performed properly.

    • @funkyflights
      @funkyflights 6 лет назад +1

      Nelson .... I’ve used this technique a lot, you just have to be ready for a possible triangle while you do it, just gotta avoid it, I’ll look up, keep my head and body straight, makes it tough to sink in the triangle ...

    Nice traditional Close Guard pass, but I prefer the standing one. This pass has a risk of get caught in triangle, since you put single under arm. The key of this pass is the knee which blocking the opponent's butt and posture up all the time to prevent getting Triangle Choked.

    What the most people don't understand is that he is putting so much pressure that it's impossible to make a triangle or arm bar attempt. Our school follow Rickson and believe me if it done the proper way you be begging the other to pass your guard with that much pressure and weight. That's invisible jiu jitsu.

  • @hermixtonen

    I have one question - when he has one arm in and one arm out, isn't he in danger of the triangle?

    • @oscardelgado4130
      @oscardelgado4130 6 лет назад +4

      Trent Turner notice at about 44 seconds,with the left arm wrapping around the leg while the other hand is secured on the belt or with both collars in one hand pulled to that distance.Point is have a strong base and keep that arm strong on the stomach with the elbow in tight against the thigh.It looks loose but in practice if you get the grip there is a balance point of pressing against the abdomen and the thigh using your whole arm without leaving space to pass the leg over.

    Why did he only use one underhook on the pass? He exposed himself to a triangle there right? Also, what was the movement where he opened the guys closed guard called?

    • @MeroGrumble
      @MeroGrumble 4 года назад +2

      1) This is a fairly traditional judo pass, nothing wrong with that. You can mix this pass with the "double underhooks pass" depending on your opponent reaction.
      2) He does not expose himself to a sankaku jime because the hips of the bottom guy are pinned on the mat and the arm is not extended far from him, he keeps a good posture, and the elbow is pressing against the thigh. It is rather difficult to go for a sankaku jime when your hips and one of your legs are immobilised.
      3) No idea, sorry, I'm not familiar with most bjj terms.

      There is no tips, if you dont get the arm on the same side where you are going to rise your leg, you will get catched.

      You can either controlling the opponent's sleeve the same side you want to post your foot. It is better to post diagonally (7 clock direction from your POI) to help you posture up and to prevent getting Triangled during the single under.

I couldn't imagine how a belt belt or red belt would feel. I am a guy with street wars under my scars so i felt tuff an strong. Walked into the gym my first day as if i was going into a fight but I'm learning I get with anyone that's trained I'm just a victim. Not a cool thought so I return to the gym an eat mat.

    I just watched Renzo Gracie video about passing and he specified that arm and leg should be same sided to prevent sweeping.

    I think that guard pass is 70% effective as its to high - personally I would use a lower guard pass and use my torque to flip the opponent over and then on top of me.

    How do you do this without getting triangled?

    • @BryceHatley
      @BryceHatley 3 года назад

      Continuous repetitions. Main reason a person gets hit with a triangle while doing this pass will be their posture.
      Honestly one of the most effective/basic passes, but it requires sound technique to pull it off without gifting them a triangle/armlock.
      Posture up/head up, keep control of your grip, hips in tight with theirs...and of course once you pass their lapel from your inside hand to your outside hand, you can move that inside hand outside to grip something like their back tail of their gi (like Rickson did).

      Lisa & Bobby Stamey you could go for alternative guard breaks. There are quite a few you can do while standing up, if you can get there without getting swept. Then there's the elbows into the thighs technique, but for training it's a bit unconfortable and can be considered a "dick move" in some gyms.

    • @thomashanham723
      @thomashanham723 6 лет назад +1

      kommisar thanks for the advice! As for the knee in thigh, I've used it effectively plenty of times against more aggressive sparring partners, that's why I recommend it

    • @thomashanham723
      @thomashanham723 6 лет назад

      kommisar but it hurts like hell, so they tend to move their leg lol

    • @thomashanham723
      @thomashanham723 6 лет назад

      kommisar it's the same effect as a kick to the leg. At first you can handle it, but constant pressure makes your leg start to weaken, and it will eventually break

    • @thomashanham723
      @thomashanham723 6 лет назад

      kommisar it's advice I gave to this guy that needs help passing the guard, surely a white belt who will be training with other white belts. I know from first hand experience that it works with lower levels, so I recommended it to him. Maybe it might get countered at blue or purple and higher or whatever belt you are, but for his level it should work fine. Just because it doesn't work on you doesn't mean it doesn't work at all, especially when starting
