Im impressed with this, I used one thinking that I wouldn't catch anything and I woke up to a mouse in there! It looked like he was really trying to get out so I took it outside and watched and he never got close to being able to escape. Very simple yet effective. After I released him, my cats got him but I am going to continue to use this!
These are so great. Somehow the tiny "click" the little door makes usually wakes me up, and I can take the mouse in a nice car ride out into the woods before mouse-anxiety can last too long. The mouse is completely physically unharmed, and it was so nice to see in this video that the mouse did not even get worried enough to keep from eating the treat! This is a great way to live and let live, and incredibly simple to use.
Thanks so much for this video. I have already purchased one of these from a local hardware store but was a bit worried about how freaked out the little guy was going to get once he discovered he was trapped. I only keep it baited and set when i am home and awake for this reason. But it seems, from the video, that the level of distress will be ok for the mouse, in the short term at least, with this trap. Make no mistake, he comes out and runs around with me in the room now. At first he was afraid of me but it only took about 3 days before he realized "pssh...she is not going to hurt me". So it's only a matter of time before he gets in the trap, which I had originally baited with, what I now know is FAR too much peanutbutter. So...basically thank you for saving the mouse from that horrible sounded death by choking and for saving me from a life of guilt for having perpetrated it unwittingly upon him. Thanks much!
I will definitely check it often. A) I don't want to harm him or her in any way and B) I have OCD so lol checking is my middle name! :-) Thanks again for the reassuring video. Now all I have to do is convince myself not to keep the mouse as a pet once trapped. :-)
Thank you so much for making these videos. I was really scared to set a trap before I watched these, but now I'm confident to do so. Really appreciate it.
Thank you for promoting humane mouse traps! I had pet mice, and I always kept a few Mice Cubes on hand for when the clever little devils escaped. They worked so well, and to make sure the trapped mice were safe when I was at school, I put a little bottle cap full of water in the back. Mice Cubes are also great for transporting mice and keeping them out of the way when you're cleaning cages. And if you tip them upside down so they stay open and put them in the corner of a cage, they make good mouse toilets, too. ;)
MousetrapGenius, if its a wild rat then get a trap, put cheese in the trap and then the mouse will go in and then it has to be something that scares them but then after you did that, give it a home.
Major problem I see with this design is that if the trap turns over for some reason the door will fall open and let the mouse out. Not a bad idea but needs a wide base to keep it upright.
Kudos, I used this trap years ago. It's the only one that works for me. I didn't have to worry about my dog or the kids I babysat getting poisoned or hurt. Because I was trying to catch a mice. Five years later, the mice are back. And I can't find these traps. Thanks for the link
I remember, as a kid, watching an adult setting a spring-loaded traditional trap. It was so finicky and difficult; it took ages and the adult kept cursing and pinching his fingers, etc. Then the trap would often 'miss-fire' and fail to catch a mouse. Obviously, when it did work, mouse-agony ensued. As if that were not bad enough, someone then had to deal with removing the gore-covered body from the spring-trap. Lose-lose-lose situation. Hooray for Mice Cube! Simple and kind!
This one won't be a trap, but a video about tips for baiting a placing traps to be the most effective. I do have some traps that have just been released to do videos of, but I'm still waiting to find out if they work or not before I recommend them.
Mice Cubes...gotta love 'em. Just released the first mouse of the season. If I have one complaint, it's that the dark color of the plastic makes it kind of hard to see if there is a mouse in there from a distance (my "guests" move into the attic when it gets cold...it would be nice to just poke my head up and see clearly if there is a winner waiting for relocation without having to climb up and inspect up close). Thanks for the tip on the peanut butter too.
This a very well designed trap. So simple, yet brilliant. I wouldn't use them to catch mice but I can think of other uses, such as catching chipmunks (they're everywhere in my area) and releasing them a few miles away in the forest preserve.
I bought 4 after seeing these video tried to solve my mice problem, but before this video I also watched your introduction on Tomcat live trap, and I caught 2 and solved my problem! Now after 7 years, they reappear! These time Im using two of the mice cube, just 20 minutes, I caught one already! But I have to wait till the morning to release the one I caught, hopefully it is the only one!
I bought a series of live catch mouse traps and this was the only design that consistently caught anything. I even caught two mice in the same trap one night. It's a shame you didn't show the release, because the ease of release is one of the neatest features. I gently rolled the trap over to its side and then on its back. This resulted in the door staying open, allowing the mouse to leave the trap. Take a couple of steps back, and the little guy will make a break for it, which is what you want him to do.
I just bought this trap, and I like its simplicity and the fact that it's cheap... so you can purchase a number of them. BUT THEY HAVE NO AIR HOLES IN THEM, and they are small, so I struggle to see how this is humane unless you release the mouse within a couple of hours of capture. I drilled 13 holes in the top myself, but this is a serious design flaw that needs to be addressed by the manufacturer. Hopefully it works well, but I may not purchase more if I need to keep drilling the holes myself.
Good question. They can't chew through concrete but they can chew through many things - including plastic. But for them to chew through it, there has to be a surface that is small enough for them to get their jaws around, and this trap doesn't have any surfaces like that. They can't just take a bite out of a flat wall.
Thanks, I will check it out. The cat in my profile pic had been loyally capturing deer mice in our basement, chewing them up, and leaving them on my pillow while I'm at work. While I appreciate the gesture, I don't enjoy getting mice guts all over my pillow.
I don't think so, as it would be difficult for them to both fit. The trap is pretty narrow, so maybe if the one on the inside was extremely tiny it could be possible, but unlikely.
My only question is: does it work consistently? Mice are pretty smart, and I am pretty sure they'd notice their brethren getting stuck and take a mental note to stay far away from the trap after a while.
As far as I know they don't make a MiceCube in a larger size (which is too bad because I think it would work well - I will try to talk to them about it at some point) I recently reviewed a chipmunk trap by Havahart that works for rats as well, so you may be interested in that one if you have a large rat problem.
I have used these successfully, but there aren't many stores that carry them. It is important to release the mice quickly, of course, and to check them regularly. One time I trapped a very frightened chipmunk, so I imagine they probably work for most small critters that would try to raid your kitchen.
Actually it's wild and I catch a different one every time. If you watch my test of the "MiceDevice" for instance, the mouse in that video has a little bite in his ear. Or the mouse in my test of the Tomcat Live Catch is much smaller than this one.
Thank you for just letting it go :•) I heard a small noise in my trash can about a year ago, so I looked and I found a little mouse, he fell in side of the bag in side of a cereal box and couldn't get out, so I just put him in a jar with a little wet bread, and some air holes, and that night I went out to a big field and let him go :•)
i found a little mouse in my house, and poisoned him so he was dazed, then i put a jar on top and then i slid cardboard under him, and put him in a pillow case then in a garbage can outside in 10 below weather........
honest question - how do you let it out? it seems like you'd have to use your finger to open the door - the same exit the mouse would have to come out of? seems like the availability for it to bite you would be pretty high considering the release point. Am I wrong?
Good question. Fortunately, all you need to do to release it is set it on the ground upside down. Since the door is just a hinge, when it is upside down if falls open naturally and the mouse can walk out.
I got the Mice Cube to help with some mouse problems I've been having with my truck and travel trailer, and it worked, but a word of caution: for those wanting to humanely re-release the mouse to the wild, be sure to check your traps often. I set mine up in the early evening, but when I checked on it by mid-morning (about 15 hours later), the poor little mouse died. I'm guessing the trap should be set just before going to bed, and then checked first thing getting up(?)
We have the old fashioned mouse trap - a cat. Caught 4 last week. We did try humane traps to no effect. The mice seemed to always tip the traps and escape.
Haha, yeah, that would be nice. I actually do get a tiny commission if people buy traps through the amazon links in the video description, but it's not like the companies actually pay me anything.
Maybe if it's very small, but it's not very likely. The mouse holding the door open would be blocking the way for the mouse inside, so most likely they'd both end up trapped.
Absolutely Fantastic trap, I've used all the other humane traps and this is by far the best. They're cheap £5.99 for three from Amazon and I've caught 16 in three days in my garage. Been using chocolate covered sponge rolls in the end and a tiny bit just under the flap, so they can see how easy it is to get in. You know when you've got one as the trap steams up and it's easy to release, I put the into a mouse cage with a little houe then when I've got a few, I take them about 2 miles away to release. Friends think I'm stupid, but they're only trying to keep warm and eat, just like all of us, basically they're doing what mice do.
A lot of people using the same trap trying to make it perfect and they catch the same mouse 2-3 times.. Mouse don't only have a bad experience, they have a reward too :P
I believe the opposete, if it get food everytime and then you set it free, it will go there again. Meybe not right away but when it will get hungry its a sure thing!
I watched a video where a guy had set up a trap that didn't drown the mice but would drop them in the bucket instead, and also set up a motion-sensing camera system that would cature time-lapse photos. He did this for a week. The first time the mouse fell in it took it a few hours to get out, but from then on it got out faster and faster, and by the end of the week the mouse decided going for the bait wasn't worth falling into a bucket and it stopped.
You need to put a weight on top of the cube so the trapped mouse can't flip the cube over on it's side - if the cube is flipped over on it's side the door opens enough for the mouse to squeeze through and escape. Also, some smart mice can apparently open the door from the inside of the trap by catching their paw nails in the small space between the the side of the door and the side of the cube (I've been trying to catch this smarty pants mouse the last 2 evenings - bait gone, cube (with weight on top) not flipped over, but no mouse!).
I bought one of those sort of traps, I couldn't work out how it was getting the food and escaping. It turned out there was a small air hole down the other end which the mouse had made much bigger and escaped through. It took me a week to realise where he was escaping from every night.
Best trap is the bucket one (the deeper the bucket, the better). On the micecube, if another mouse feels the smell of the bait and try to enter, it will free a previously trapped mouse inside. Another thing is that it won't catch a big mouse.
hmmm, can it be used for bigger rats? there's one almost as big as a potato in my attic and it gnaws on plastic and wood I wonder if the mouse cube could be made in a different size :P
I have two of these and they work very well I have caught up to 4 mice at a time ...(2 adults and two babies) my cube came with Valerian a herb that they are very attracted to and it puts them to sleep for a while. but it work well without the valerian too.
Thanks for the suggestion on the peanut butter. Now I don't have to buy a trap, just put out a glob of peanut butter and the mice will gag to death on it.
It doesn't hurt to drill several small holes in the top of the trap either for better ventilation as the condensation can get really heavy in them. I'd also suggest wearing disposable or rubber gloves when handling the trap with a mouse in it and after letting it go. Remember, they're cute but they're also harbingers of disease like Lyme disease, Salmonella and Hantavirus. So remember to wash the trap and yourself well with hot water afterward - hot shower is the way to go.
You also shouldn't touch the food. They may smell human and may not enter unless they are desperate. Also these traps allow another mouse to open the trap from the outside while the other mouse slips out.
Awesome. The mice cube is a great trap. Glue traps work for snakes. You just have to bait them with bugs or meat. I would never recommend glue traps for mice cause it can rip their legs off, but they work okay for snakes.
It looks like it can hurt the tail sometimes. Unless if they dont have feeling in tail, but I don't know anything about mice. Also it can get out while another one is trying to get it. And at this point the food could be eaten and not interest the 2nd mouse to go in.
If you don't want your finger in the way, take a large paper clip and un bend it except for a 1 inch bend on one end and an L shape on the other and then pull the bent end into the door area by hanging onto the L shape bend. This will open the door, keeping your fingers away from it.
My cat loves your videos , can we please have more of the mice running around as it keeps her glued to the screen and not walking over my keyboard, by the way your mouse traps are brilliant and kind as they are so humane
Thanks so much! I've caught and moved 2 to their country home with a havaheart but they are on to it now and wont go in. Think mine are small rats, they are bigger than your little guy. Thanks again!
I've seen a better version of the mice cube that uses a weighted door rather than spring. and you can open the front part. The one in the video looks difficult to clean.
Should be called the "Mouse Cube" not "Mice Cube" since it doesn't look like it will work for more then one. If another mouse comes along, it's highly possible to let the first one out again. That's why many live traps like "Tin Cats" have two gates that need to be crossed to get in.
out of interest, what species is it. looks like a US version of wood mouse (uk species). the bad mice to get in homes are the house mouse which are like mini rats and only live in houses. wood mice are not really pests and usually live outdoors, and so you can just release them a few miles away and they will be ok. also, does the camera switch on when detecting movement or does it have to be left running.
Im impressed with this, I used one thinking that I wouldn't catch anything and I woke up to a mouse in there! It looked like he was really trying to get out so I took it outside and watched and he never got close to being able to escape. Very simple yet effective. I think it's really great that you're using the traps very humanely. Nice job!

I got one of these a few weeks ago and finally caught the bugger last night. Safe, humane and indeed it works.
Dear MousetrapGenius, I had never thought of being good to mice, how kind of you to be my teacher. Blessings, pierre
Thank you for promoting humane mouse traps! I had pet mice, and I always kept a few Mice Cubes on hand for when the clever little devils escaped. They worked so well, and to make sure the trapped mice were safe when I was at school, I put a little bottle cap full of water in the back.

So you have a never ending supply of mice in your house? Or do you really just use pet mice for the experiments?
Jon Watcher We catch mice a lot of place. We have since run out of mice in the house, but we find them in sheds and friends houses. :)
MousetrapGenius, if its a wild rat then get a trap, put cheese in the trap and then the mouse will go in and then it has to be something that scares them but then after you did that, give it a home.
deep is that mice deth is all i need
I think it's just a computer generated mouse.
He has a pet mouse.
Major problem I see with this design is that if the trap turns over for some reason the door will fall open and let the mouse out. Not a bad idea but needs a wide base to keep it upright.
that's a good idea! all it would take is some cardboard and tape!
Or add a small spring to keep it inplace

I love this, so humane and caring. There are few people like you who capture the mice and free them. I hope....
I bought 4 after seeing these video tried to solve my mice problem, but before this video I also watched your introduction on Tomcat live trap, and I caught 2 and solved my problem!

Thanks...I was just trying to decide which trap to buy...these are cheap on Ebay...would have loved to see how you released this guy...
I bought a series of live catch mouse traps and this was the only design that consistently caught anything. I even caught two mice in the same trap one night.

I find this really sweet that you care about the well-being of the mice! what a cutie!
+Kelsey CoCa Who cares they are mice the hawks will just eat them anyway....
Jared Fogle I know, but you feel the same way about kids, Jared. "they were going to get molested anyway"
that's what Jared Fogle did!
I actually did a joke about that on my channel!
Kelsey CoCa
I know it's funny though that you knew
If you have a problem with the mouse turning the trap upside down and escaping, you could weight the trap down or attach to something.
I appreciate your concern for living creatures. Your cartoon mouse is funny. Keep up the good work
this is such an amazingly simple design! makes me wonder how I didn't come up with it!

Your trap is too small to use in my country ( Malaysia ).
Our local rat is big like the cat..
its a mouse trap not a rat trap
Duh!
Mrdiscovery123 then you need to use a rat kill trap or an air gun
Actually it's wild and I catch a different one every time. If you watch my test of the "MiceDevice" for instance, the mouse in that video has a little bite in his ear. Or the mouse in my test of the Tomcat Live Catch is much smaller than this one.
Thank you for just letting it go :•) I heard a small noise in my trash can about a year ago, so I looked and I found a little mouse, he fell in side of the bag in side of a cereal box and couldn't get out, so I just put him in a jar with a little wet bread, and some air holes, and that night I went out to a big field and let him go :•)
So he could infest someone else's house? You're a crappy neighbor! Jerk!
thanks for being kind to animals! We need more people like you in this world.
i found a little mouse in my house, and poisoned him so he was dazed, then i put a jar on top and then i slid cardboard under him, and put him in a pillow case then in a garbage can outside in 10 below weather........
holdem5180 subtle lol
Ricardo Quintero lol

AH... I didn't know how much retention was in the spring if any. Thanks man :)
Chuck Reynolds
all gravity no springs attached
Excellent, and simple. I'm building a home version big enough to catch anything)
All you have to do is turn it upright and the door opens

It has no air holes unfortunately.
***** I believe there's enough of a gap around the swing door to allow enough oxygen in. It might not hurt to drill a few holes in, though.
jug time * < >
***** That explains a lot - reminds me of octopi, except half as many legs.
+GearUpGamer lol, they're still vertebrates so of course they have bones. But their bodies are designed to burrow through small openings.
We have the old fashioned mouse trap - a cat. Caught 4 last week. We did try humane traps to no effect. The mice seemed to always tip the traps and escape.
I want to catch ratatouille, he is such a great cook.
Shoaib Alam,
Disney is awesome! Btw ratatouille is a rat. Lol
Haha, yeah, that would be nice. I actually do get a tiny commission if people buy traps through the amazon links in the video description, but it's not like the companies actually pay me anything.
I have used one of these and LOVE IT ,, i dont want mice around even though i raised them as a kid so this is a much better way to go
Maybe if it's very small, but it's not very likely. The mouse holding the door open would be blocking the way for the mouse inside, so most likely they'd both end up trapped.
Nice catch. Now you've got a perfect cat toy. Hours of fun for Fluffy!
Mice Cube works well but you do need to check them frequently, there is not a lot of air in there. I've also caught some small moles in them.
Absolutely Fantastic trap, I've used all the other humane traps and this is by far the best. They're cheap £5.99 for three from Amazon and I've caught 16 in three days in my garage. Wonderful! Glad to hear you've had such success with it. Thanks for letting us know!

Fortunately, only one mouse can fit in the door at once, so if one is pushing in to keep it open the other can't come out.
The only problem with live capture and release is if the mouse returns, it will likely have learned and will refuse to go near a trap like that again.
A lot of people using the same trap trying to make it perfect and they catch the same mouse 2-3 times.. Mouse don't only have a bad experience, they have a reward too :P
Thessaloz George Maybe not the first time, but after enough times mice will learn how a trap works and give up on going for food on/in them.
I believe the opposete, if it get food everytime and then you set it free, it will go there again. Meybe not right away but when it will get hungry its a sure thing!
Mice and rats are smart. They learn from each others mistakes.
This is my favorite trap. Thanks for sharing!
That was what I was thinking to. Thanks and I am going to buy the mouse cube anyway because I need it for some traping
Maybe, but it would have to be a pretty small snake. If it was long enough for its tail to stick out under the door, I think it could get out.
Great video! Time to catch Mickey!
PETA makes a mouse trap that works quite nicely you might try that one as well
You need to put a weight on top of the cube so the trapped mouse can't flip the cube over on it's side - if the cube is flipped over on it's side the door opens enough for the mouse to squeeze through and escape.
Today was a mice day.
Get it? The trap is called mice cube
almost lol
Ba dum tssssssssssss
Nice day so you have ice cubes?
Gustajuy good jock
Gustajuy miced that mouse
Thank-you so much for making these types of traps. I would much rather catch and release than kill
The mice in my house are now having peanut butter nightmares. I am seriously considering suing you for mouse damages.
I bought one of those sort of traps, I couldn't work out how it was getting the food and escaping. It turned out there was a small air hole down the other end which the mouse had made much bigger and escaped through. It took me a week to realise where he was escaping from every night.
Glad you think so :)
Bless you, your trap saved the food from getting eaten by a mouse.
I like this trap. Nice review, thanks.
Best trap is the bucket one (the deeper the bucket, the better). On the micecube, if another mouse feels the smell of the bait and try to enter, it will free a previously trapped mouse inside. Another thing is that it won't catch a big mouse.
Now I've got to go and release it. It's a nice medium sized Field Mouse. I think you call them Deer Mice 🙂.
hmmm, can it be used for bigger rats? there's one almost as big as a potato in my attic and it gnaws on plastic and wood
I wonder if the mouse cube could be made in a different size :P
But if its 2 mice, one can open the door so his friend can escape with the peanut butter
You also shouldn't touch the food. They may smell human and may not enter unless they are desperate. Also these traps allow another mouse to open the trap from the outside while the other mouse slips out.
Well then. It looks like you and the rats have something in common :/
Are there air holes in this trap? If not, he could suffocate.
No ventilation 😧 ?
P.S. Just this second caught one in my (more elaborate) Pest Stop Trip Trap. That's the 7th one I've caught 🙂 .
There's almost a quarter inch of space between the door and the walls so plenty of air can get in.
Youre a nice guy. Nice as in not cruel lol, i`m married haha! But seriously, good going. Its good to show compassion! :)
Yes, the door does not fit that tightly, so air can come in.
So before release you were able to negotiate an agreement that the mouse not come back to damage and contaminate your property?
Awesome. The mice cube is a great trap. Glue traps work for snakes. You just have to bait them with bugs or meat. I would never recommend glue traps for mice cause it can rip their legs off, but they work okay for snakes.
R.I.P
Mr.Mouse
cause of death: peanut butter
Wait.....WHAAAAATTT
The mouse is going to submit a formal complaint due to not receiving a peanut-free trap.
😊😊😊
Sounds like a great mouse trap to me
I made myself one, using glass, but keepin´ the same form...and it works very welll...it kicks ass!
i have a never ending supply of rats in my house too i think it's time to make my own rat traps channel
It looks like it can hurt the tail sometimes. Unless if they dont have feeling in tail, but I don't know anything about mice. Also it can get out while another one is trying to get it. And at this point the food could be eaten and not interest the 2nd mouse to go in.
Catch and release?
If you don't want your finger in the way, take a large paper clip and un bend it except for a 1 inch bend on one end and an L shape on the other and then pull the bent end into the door area by hanging onto the L shape bend. This will open the door, keeping your fingers away from it.
My cat loves your videos , can we please have more of the mice running around as it keeps her glued to the screen and not walking over my keyboard, by the way your mouse traps are brilliant and kind as they are so humane
Just bought four of these, thanks!
Great! Hope they work well for you!
Thank you, glad you found it interesting :)
Never understand why people release caught mice/rat. You know they will come back right? If its not your house it will be somebody else's.
Awesome I alredy got a trap but that was a GREAT VIDEO!!!
Great idea! I got an A on my science project! Thank you!!😊
I heard in another video that rats can even chew through a concrete wall but they cant in a plastic box? Or rats and mice are different in that?
Yes, now you can think of that whenever you eat and peanut butter and jelly sandwich ;) Thanks for the comment!
Thanks, glad it's helpful!
The door doesn't seal around the edges so air can get in.
GOOD WORK, KEEP IT GOING !
Should be called the "Mouse Cube" not "Mice Cube" since it doesn't look like it will work for more then one. If another mouse comes along, it's highly possible to let the first one out again. That's why many live traps like "Tin Cats" have two gates that need to be crossed to get in.
Thanks for these. I am in no need for a mouse trap but it's nice to know about other options. Killing them is so easy but I really rather not.
Mininick64,
Thanks for being nice :)
I used to use these traps. They were great
"Death By Peanut butter"
The new Ben and Jerry's flavor coming to a store near you!
Thanks! Glad you appreciated it!
you guys love mice so much that you should live with and talking care of them in your houses...
out of interest, what species is it. looks like a US version of wood mouse (uk species). the bad mice to get in homes are the house mouse which are like mini rats and only live in houses. wood mice are not really pests and usually live outdoors, and so you can just release them a few miles away and they will be ok. also, does the camera switch on when detecting movement or does it have to be left running.
That was my concern, just how long were you going to leave the little thing in the square tube? It must get really stressed after a hour?
