I mean........I could say Peach honestly, and even with her new game, stopping an evil from taking over the equivalent of an amusement park. Until I see her defense herself from Bowser she remains a damsel at best.
I am not into Marvel ao I never experienced these femal heroines myself but hearing about them makes me apriciate the kind female characters I love even more.

She’s always been a spell caster primarily. She’s the embodiment of wisdom.
Actually, she's primarily a McGuffin, and that's ok because every story needs support cast. And yes, when she's in the game, she's primarily a caster. No the smash don;'t count.
Well fighting and stealth characters can be Wisdom oriented as well. We've had Zelda's that can do swords and archery, and even work on machines. Link in almost every game had a toolkit, not just a sword. You had to solve puzzles and brave dangers as link.

But I imagine both being much weaker that Power, unless they work together.

This is the perfect example of how to do something like this. Instead of shoe horning Zelda into an action girl role, they play into her character of an intelligent magic user.
If Zelda was to fight with a sword, then we are basically just playing as Link in a dress.
When Zelda uses a sword, it's a rapier, and she uses fencing style. Not to mention she acts as more of a Mage knight.

Oh i remember the epidemic of generic harem isekai and etc, but they are not popular and get very bad score so is not alive and well. And a lot of harem has the girls being the heroines.

I think the ''Zelda with a sword'' mentality can be explained by certain games where we see her having one/using one such as her Rapier in Twilight Princess or her possessing Phantoms in Spirit Tracks, along her alter egos like Tetra or Sheik using and having weapons, and even non-canon stuff like Hyrule Warriors letting her use the rapier as her main weapon, this is to say that the idea of Zelda using weapons isn't as farfetched or out of this world as you made seem. BUT despite that, I do agree and prefer that, before all that, Zelda is a powerful and smart magic user, and that should be prioritized in her kit and I would not ever want her gameplay to just be link gameplay, bc at that point whats the purpose of even having her playable.
Tbh the only nitpick I have with the Trirod in EOW is that I wish/hope she had her own magic abilities apart from the rod to showcase her own magic power as well (maybe we could see these as the equivalent to runes/dungeon items if we dont get proper zelda items back), but despite that im really excited for EOW and honestly hope Link doesn't take away Zelda's spotlight at any point in the game lol
Well yes I can see Zelda with a DPS kit meaning bows not main wep sword, staves and magic. First Zelda was actually hylia so that gave her magic, all subsequent Zelda are just humans with mommy bloodline not actual hylia, and why tetra had bombs is prolly because Zelda can be resourceful despite not being like. I imagine link has a watered down warrior kit cuz sword and heavy weps and armor and less magic. But fact gannondorf can pick up and throw him, he's not physically over muscled
If there are different Links in each game there should be different Zeldas, thing is, what makes THIS Zelda different than the others?

The only time I've ever seen Zelda with an actual sword is in the first Hyrule Warriors and even then I'm not sure if Hyrule Warriors is canon. I feel like no matter the game, Zelda generally deals with magic in some why (or is associated with magic). My main question is why the fairy that helps Zelda in the upcoming game looks like a deformed Luma from Super Mario Galaxy? Or is it just me that feels like the fairy looks like a deformed Luma...

Even her rapier moveset in Hyrule Warriors has a charge mechanic that can be used for magic/light arrow strong attacks.
Age of Calamity her movesets are Shiekah Slate, Bow of Light, and, uh, Master Cycle Zero-based. Legend of Vespa?

Kinda wanted another game focusing on Link but this game seems interesting. The peach game was fun. So I might give this a try idk
I can see them making either an add-on or a segment of the game where you do play as Link in traditional Zelda fashion.
I wouldnt have a problem if she was a warrior-esque zelda ala Shiek or something. It's the people who refuse to even allow her to be feminine and magical girl and not as strong as the boys are EVER. It's okay for women to be weaker. it makes their successes very inspiring and unusual. I am fine if they make a mainline 3d Zelda with Princess Zelda going full Shiek. Maybe a Ocarina of Time midquel where she and Impa are fighting while Link sleeps in the Sacred Realm.
To be honest I agree and I don't care what weps Zelda uses as long as do kit right. I think Zelda needs DPS kit but that involves magic staves light armor throwing arrows and small not heavy swords or daggers. I see link as off tank or watered down warrior and in some games he gets very heavy armor. I just think being that each Zelda and link are diff ones Zelda shouldn't be too limited in weps

Zelda doing more than being saved by like dates back to the first Zelda game (1986) where she spilt the Triforce of Wisdom and hide its pieces so Ganon could not have it
My problem is wondering if there's going to be a shi*on of scrolling for every action.. or if only a few is saved at any given time

Well said. This just makes sense how someone with wisdom as their forte would go about saving Hyrule. I’m personally very happy she isn’t cut and paste Link.
I think for the timeline placement I believe just by looking at Ganon, Echos takes place on the Like fails timeline as this Ganon looks like the one from A Link to the Past.
Its not cannon but hyrule warriors she used magic an a sword if i recall correctly. I think its cool shes got a staff that can copy things though i do wish she was useing a bow or spells
Let’s not forget that Zelda is the Sage of Time, and while she normally needs rescuing or have great moments of self sacrifice, she’s capable of doing her own thing. I for one am looking forward to this game, as she is not a girl boss.

She used a Sword in 2 Games. But Zelda had other abilities in Hyrule Warriors too. Magic related.
But She isn't a Girl Boss, which is described by Modern Audiences. As a character that replaces a Man, uses his equipment and abilities and thinks Her self better then Her Male lead. Which She is not.
Zelda is a feminine Hero who is Intelligent, kind and a powerful caster. In Her Game She has to save Her Kingdom using Magic and not relying on Link's strength.
i 100% agree with you on zelda playstyle! i always see zelda as a mage with the triforce of wisdom. sure she use a bow more in the timeline then the one or two times she use a rapier in twilight princess but that's it, she's always a mage in my eyes and if you want to see zelda use the rapier more then play hyrule warriors even though it's a spin off and non-canon.

Zelda’s Rappier from Twilight Princess was an amazing weapon in Hyrule Warriors. I think I’d like to see her use it to battle in a main timeline Zelda game.
Zelda has been a mage knight. She used a rapier in Warriors, and her style was more magic focused. It depends on her incarnation, but magic is also her forte. Don't know why it has to be one or the other.
5:45 not just the art style, at the beginning of the trailer Ganon is a blue, bipedal boar-like humanoid beast.
That’s the case only in the “fallen timeline” of og zelda, alttp, albtw, etc. (And of course, oot final boss fight), as in the other two Ganondorf either did not became Ganon, either he was defeated.
Of course, ww, tp and botw have a “hog-beast phase”, but note that it’s not humanoid, but animal like, and is not blue or with armour. I guess Ganondorf was a hog all along and the triforce of power just manifested that😂
I never had a problem with Zelda having a wand. I remember reading on _TV Tropes_ that Ganon, Zelda, and Link, as well as the Triforces of Power, Wisdom, and Courage, follow the RPG class dynamic of Warrior, Wizard, and Thief.

I was happy to see that too. After the massive derailleur of Peach, it's nice to see Link wasn't useless or anything, he just got tricked. And Zelda's not picking up a sword, she's using her existing and established magic skills.

The timeline is either before A link to the past or after zelda 2 connecting all timelines due to the rifts (in dimensions maybe?)
FYI Nintendo cares about the timeline, Nintendo if America just doesn't translate what they say in Joana about the Timeline. Hyrule Historia was given to a western audience with no idea of what the Japanese audience had already known
I mean. She’s a tragic hero. So obviously. Link is also a tragic hero. They don’t want to be the hero. They are forced to be.
Depends on the Link and Zelda. The Hero of Winds just wanted to rescue his sister, was asked if he could save the world as well, and he just went, “okay sure”. Most of the Toon Link’s are natural heroes. But yeah, some of them feel obligated to.
I am not excited for Echoes of Wisdom NOT because Zelda is the lead character, but because this game looks too easy and since there are (probably) lots of echoes to use, puzzles may have no challenge. I never bought Link's Awakening either. This game still looks WAY better than Peach Showtime by a long shot but I'm not interested enough to pay 60 dollars for this lol. Peach from the Mario movie is a Girl Boss and I hardly saw any criticism about it.
That’s because the male characters weren’t made to be useless, and she was as peachy pleasant as usual. When someone says “girl boss” as a negative, it refers to the ones that are written badly, and the story gives everything to. It’s not that much of a problem, but it is a bit of a writing problem.
Zelda still is a "girl boss" like sure the saying is ridiculous, but she is a boss of her OWN KINGDOM, her own name, royalty and of her profound magic, she can control enemies, she outwits her opponents, like what is not "boss" about that? If a man did the same thing, a king taking up upon his own game, in the field of combat he specializes in, is he too "not a man boss" because it's so bad to give credit to a rightful king, a man worthy of his appearance to step up? Oh right, because if it were a king/man it would be pretty boss and bad'a' to see one step up from behind the foregrounds, but it being Zelda, oh no it could never be a boss move/cool, just a wittle princess "stepping" up but not a totally cool and leader like way, because well "female icky" and hurts those individuals little egos.
A Bow and Arrows would fit Zelda too. She Did use one in both The 80s Cartoon And Captain N.
I have nothing against Zelda with a sword. I found her Hyrule Warriors version where one if the weapons she rocks is a rapier pretty freaking cool.
But I also love mages and summoners like Yuna and Shantotto from the Final Fantasy series.
This is kinda oftopic but I did grow a fondness of axes as a weapon for female characters. 2 of my favorite playable female characters use the axe to great effect and look cool doing it.
Tetra from the Wind Waker also used a sword in the manga. The mangas also show other abilities Zelda has.
Zelda maybe didn't have the Tri-force of wisdom when EoW happens, we only know two Zeldas having the Tri-force of wisdom in the Downfall split, Albw and LoZ.

Exactly, still a boss of her own self, her own powers, her own will and intelligence, and of royalty (the highest of all in the land of Hyrule) she was and always been a "girl boss" before this game
As someone who hasn't played a Zelda game before (I plan to play Skyward Sword HD at some point), maybe my opinion doesn't matter. But it does make sense to me that Zelda would wield a staff over a sword, though I'm certain she'd be just as cool with one, maybe get some training from Link. She's a sorceress above all else, so it's natural for her to be more reliant on magic than physical power. But whatever she does in this game and future Zelda-only games to come, I just hope she gets actual combat spells and not just the echoes to fight. Peach was a total beast in her game, so I just feel like Zelda should get the same treatment.
I hope EOW plays like Oracle of Ages, the much more puzzle-based Oracle game. Although with the Magnetic Gloves from Seasons too because that item was awesome and definitely could be used in puzzle solving.

imo, not an issue that she is gets the staff from a fairy. Link get's his sword ussually by accident (from a blacksmith or a friend). If you want to go further, he does EARN the master sword from Hylia, so you could say that Zelda should earn the staff. BUT, in Skyward Sword, Link is just given the Master Sword (Goddess Sword form) outright.

As for Echoes of Wisdom, I'm actually pretty excited for it! People have been wanting a proper Zelda game where Zelda is the MC instead of Link & the Botw/ToTK creativity concept being used in a top down, 2D Hyrule is perfect for her. Not every leader needs to be a Swordswoman like Asuna from SAO & Zelda has always been shown using mostly magic or a bow. The only thing I'm not a fan of with the game is the artstyle, but it's a minor nitpick. Story & gameplay are already making EoW look more mature & replayable than Princess Peach: Showtime.

I like to think of this game as the end of one zelda game that leads into another. Link defeats Ganon and saves Zelda like usual, but Link gets lost and now Zelda has to figure out how to save him with her own skills.

Shes a strong female lead done right for over 30 years always helping Link on his quests and delivering the final blow on Ganondorf 3x once in Wind Waker 2nd in Ocarina Of Time and 3rd in Twilight Princess. And frankly Im happy this version of Zelda has her own game!
Yeah, it's Link's schtick to hit monsters with the pokey stick. Magic has always been Zelda's bread and butter, pajama ninja alter ego not withstanding. Heck, Shiek doesn't even use a sword in ANY of his/her appearances!
She’s had a rapier as a secondary weapon before. Wand is definitely better though.
Okay it's like Zelda is a magic user, Link is a melee/range.
Think of this as Link uses swords and bows because he level up this strength and poise, while Zelda leveled up her intelligence and focuses on magic damage.

I 100% agree with you. The way nintendo handled this game is perfect, and yes, she is a magic user for the most part and doesn't need a sword ...however if this is an argument that she never used a sword in a good game means you obviously never played hyrule warrior games. In the first one, she used a Rapier (a sword). In the second game, in age of calamity she was a spellcaster and also used the sheika slate instead of the sword. So she can use both, and yes, she doesn't have to be a boss warrior, but I would argue that she's a boss leader. Holding her kingdom together when her father failed and is incredibly smart, as you have pointed out.

I assume Tri IS her part of the triforce or atleast something to do with it.
Having Zelda use her wit and spell casting to defeat enemies to me is far more interesting than if she just used a sword. Not only is it true to her character, it’s more engaging because there are so many possibilities, making for unique and creative encounters.

Magic spells would be tight and anice throwback to powers Link used in ALTTP. It would be cool to see how much stronger those same magic abilities would be using Zelda's talents 😊

Zelda has already proven herself to be a hero in both BOTW and TOTK in her own way. She keeps the seal on Calamity Ganon for over a century so that Link can recover and fight his way back and she selflessly sacrifices her human form in order to spend many millenia repairing the Master Sword so that Link has a fighting chance against the newly revived Demon King. This game understands that and is made around her own unique abilities. Plus, Zelda has already been the main character in two other games but....yeah. She's worthy of her own game and one that doesn't suck no less.

Reasons why we haven't had a stand alone Zelda game is the same reason we didn't get a Super Princess Peach sequel. Love game. In the game she is the avatar and no one can't change my mind with that lol.

Mostly all the Zelda games I pass on. I not saying they are bad, it's just doesn't stand out like other Zelda games like Echo's Of Wisdom. I know some one is going to hate me for not playing all the Zelda games but I'm good in that 😅 and I die on this hill alone if I have to 😅

When it comes to its placement in what timeline, don’t base that on the art style. Remember: Twilight Princess is in the same timeline as Majora’s Mask and Four Swords Adventures.

They might as well call it The Legend of Link since Zelda is the hero of the game.
I’m excited for this game because I’ve always wondered why Zelda wasn’t playable until now‼️ In my opinion it seems like Zelda needs a personality other than being a damsel in distress or links side kick. I haven’t went down the rabbit hole for the lore or timeline of the story behind the games but I believe that it’s great that she’s not a warrior type or carbon copy gender bender of link. Just because she’s not fighting with a sword and shield doesn’t mean she’s not a boss in her own right.👀
I have been wanting a spin off with Zelda for a long time. Partly so people could stop insisting in turning Link into a woman, but mostly because I always thought Zelda had great potential as a playable character.
That being said, I wonder if it would be a good idea to have a unlockable Link mode after beating the game to expand the game even more.
I'm perfectly fine with Zelda in the mage role. If people want girlboss Zelda I'm still down for a Sheik game covering the seven years HoT Link was sealed away or even a retelling of Ocarina in the TotK timeline with That Zelda taking up the mantle. But I'd really want the ninja kit and not sword and board.
If warrior girl is really what people want in a Zelda title we've got Impa, multiple Zora princesses and the entire Gerudo tribe to pick from.
Why are people trying to ruin this: we fans have wanted to play/thought we were playing as Zelda since the game started. Spirit tracks was fun (not talking about the Warriors games) and that's it, we never had a chance to play as her. And when we do: a bunch of morons complain.

Also even tho zelda primarily use magic she CAN use a sword in clever ways like a magical makeshift blade or even a rapier imbued with holy magic and whatnot. She's even pure enough to touch the ms and can communicate with it which the botw incarnation of her has done b4.
Zelda is the triforce bearer of wisdom, she may not be as physically powerful as the other 2 but that in no way makes her less of a hero she simply has to go about things differently than link. But that mainly depends on the zelda incarnation.
