Also, if a person wears eye glasses for distance, there are prescription inserts that can be purchased from various vendors. If your distance vision is good but you wear glasses to read, then you don't need these inserts, normally the focal point in VR is 3 meters to infinity. Make sure you have your IPD (distance between your eyes pupils) is set as close to perfect as you can and make sure your eyes are aligned with the sweet spot of the HMD's optics for the best clarity, also, the closer your eyes are to the HMD's optics, the better the FOV (Field Of View) will be for any given HMD. As mentioned in the video, start slow and don't stay in the HMD for too long, if things don't feel right, you can always close your eyes while in VR. I don't agree with not starting with a roller coaster ride, the trick is look straight ahead, do NOT look to the sides or up and down, my 1st few VR experiences were roller coasters and as time went on and I got use to it, I started looking to the sides, I can't say it felt great at first but after a few times, I got use to it and now it doesn't bother me at all. I've been into VR since 2017 and love VR, sometimes in VR, you just have to tell yourself "This isn't real" LOL :) Also, if the HMD supports 90hz refresh rate, go with that, any lower for VR newbies can help accelerate the ill feeling, once use to it, you can lower this if you wish.
Your description of how you handled the roller coaster is specifically why I don't recommend it for a first playthrough. To enjoy the experience, you have to limit what you do. One of the great immersive things is VR is to look around at the world you've been transported to. So it feels like a waste. I'd rather stick a newbie in something where they can take it all in. Thanks for watching!

@@liveopenmike not sick but I feel it but I got advice from my oculus friends and I can at least play five minutes now without wanting to throw up! And I just got done playing 30 mins ago
So, in console and PC gaming, a narrow FOV in FPSers can make me super nauseous (non VR). Interesting that vignetting would reduce nausea when it essentially reduces FOV. I wonder if a larger FOV headset would create less nausea when playing FPS games or increase it, whereas in flat gaming, a large FOV reduces it.
I think the vignette helps specifically because of foveated rendering. Blurring the things you're not directly looking at (this doesn't include eye tracking foveated rendering) is essentially another form of motion blur.
Also, for FPS specifically, which is more fast twitch reaction than any other game, narrower FOV is absolutely a bad thing because you're TRYING to look everywhere. For a flying or racing game, the motion blur especially as you're turning quickly will send folks loopy. I've seen it personally.
Doesn't that only matter if using controller to turn? If you turn around physically irl the fov shouldn't matter. Try in Google Earth, since that allows for a "reduced fov while rotating" option or comfort mode.
Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that. Rec Room does have comfort settings last time I checked. Gorilla Tag... yeah not a great starter game. Hope you're feeling better!
Oh no! Yes, shooters are BAD choices. I have a video on this channel about good games for new users. If you want a shooter, check out Drop Dead Dual Strike or Hyperdash (free). Hope the sickness didn't last too long.
Walking Dead's not a great first game. If you want a zombie shooter, try Zombieland Headshot Fever or Drop Dead Dual Strike. Both easier for new VR users but still all the zombie killing you want.

I think I responded to your other comments? Either way, no GTag is not a good first experience. Sorry you got sick. :(
@@liveopenmike not sick but I feel it but I got advice from my oculus friends and I can at least play five minutes now without wanting to throw up!
@@x1c3x Vignettes in most games don't trigger during IRL turning, so yes. That tip is specific to using artificial turning.
Who is the thing in 20 minutes in the game when I first got it I didn’t even feel sick and I played till 3 AM because I got it on December 31
Nice! You are one of the lucky ones.
I got my VR a couple days ago, and gorilla tag did not make me feel good
Not really surprising. Hope you didn’t get too sick. 😷
I went to the rec room and Gorrilla tag and ran straight to the bathroom. 🤢
Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that. Rec Room does have comfort settings last time I checked. Gorilla Tag... yeah not a great starter game.
Hope you're feeling better!
Jumped into contractors zombies first thing in my quest 3, lasted about 10 mins 🤢
Oh no! Yes, shooters are BAD choices. I have a video on this channel about good games for new users. If you want a shooter, check out Drop Dead Dual Strike or Hyperdash (free).
Hope the sickness didn't last too long.
@@liveopenmike ty man excited to see what the quest has to offer!
LOL I tried Epic Rollercoasters as my first game and for the first time in my life experienced motion sickness.
Def not a good first choice lol.
Oof. Yeah that's a rough first outing. My kid keeps putting her friends in that game and I tell her not to.
@@liveopenmike i like the poker game. Lol.
I was playing ghosts of tabor all day and yk I felt terrible
Ouch, sorry to hear that. Even now I have days where I will stop pretty early if I'm not feeling right.
Was looking forward to vr finally got a quest 2. Im not a motion suckness kinda person but man vr got me vad. Tried walking dead
Walking Dead's not a great first game. If you want a zombie shooter, try Zombieland Headshot Fever or Drop Dead Dual Strike. Both easier for new VR users but still all the zombie killing you want.
Sucks I can’t. Barely stand well playing vr and I’ve had it for about three days probably gonna have to return it
@@Anbu1ROK2326 sorry to hear that, was anything in this video helpful?
@@liveopenmike I hope so ima try
What game is he playing where he's fighting
Where I'm punching some cartoonish looking enemies? That game is Path of the Warrior.
Starting with Horizon on PSVR2 is too much?
Yes. The reprojection and motion blur in that game made several VR veterans sick, according to their reviews.
I cant figure it out? Im usually good for about 45 mins. Then the damn tbing needs to come off. But the psvr2 seems better than meta quest 2. Well im gonna buy the 3 and see what happens
I have so many follow up questions. What games are you playing? Are/were you new to VR? Comfort settings?
@liveopenmike any game tbh I'm perfectly fine playing until suddenly I'm not. Although I can play in gran turismo 7 all day long and be just fine
New to VR... I purchased supernatural, Hello Neighbor, and walking dead tourist addition. I’ve only tried the first two so far and hello neighbor took me out by the fourth scene... ❤
@ambrag2cute358 I’ve not played Hello Neighbor, but check the comfort settings. Most games have default settings for new or experienced players. Did Supernatural affect you at all?
just found your channel. you have a dope channel. in a good way. i dont mean goofy
Thank you! Glad you're enjoying the content.
Can you play roblox as a beginner with out being sick
Absolutely not. They've fixed the framerate issues in most of the worlds, but it's still pretty rough for new users.
@@liveopenmikehey Mike! I have been getting really nauseous and is gorilla tag and brick maina a good game for begginers I got my vr 2 weeks ago and I really got my vr to get gorilla tag just to have fun but it’s super annoying to see I waited months to get something that makes me nauseous
@@Drawingismefav No, I wouldn't recommend either of those honestly.
And I feel very disappointed for waiting that long for something that effects me
@@liveopenmike oh but I really waited a long time for those games :/ any tips? Expect for not playing them because I got my vr for that game and I really like to play it I just feel weird after playing not during I feel it 30 mins later so idk
luckily i have never suffered from motion sickness
You're very lucky. It doesn't happen to me often anymore because I know my triggers now, but when it does, I'm toast for at least half a day.
I can't handle the first three seconds
of the video or VR in general? I picked that almost vomit image just to really drive the point home
great one more reason
10 mins of climbing and i almost vomited
Oof. What were you playing?
@@liveopenmike a free climbing game. The second I fell I experienced the worst motion sickness I've ever experienced. Still I'm not gonna let it make me quit vr
Who vomited after playing for the first time and got here

This guy right here. Hence why I made the video. Hoping my experience can help others.
The best way to avoid it is to take motion sickness pills.
I can't vouch for dramamine as I've not taken it myself, but I've heard it's useful. Do you have to take it on an empty stomach? I always eat before I go in, which I'm told isn't very bright. Thanks for watching!
How to avoid pms 😂😂😂😂 get it
:D
I dont know Why i clicked. I have no problems with Motion sickness
I don't either, but I still like to learn in case my existing tips don't work. Thank you for watching!
Lol, same here
I go on deep sea fishing trips, long car rides never once gotten motion sickness until I just today got a quest 3. I’ve always wanted to play ghost of Tabor and other games but I’m almost tempted to return it as I got so sick playing for about an hour. I had so much fun playing but like the video said it’s tricking my brain into thinking I’m moving and looking. It just feels strange moving with a joystick and then trying to look or look and use the joystick to also look more quickly. Great video will keep trying and to build up a tolerance and go slower at first.
@@logan039 Tabor is an AWFUL first game to try in VR. Check out some on rails shooters if you really want some VR gunplay while you get your sea legs.
Zombieland, Drop Dead Dual Strike, Dead Second, Superhot, and Hyperdash are all going to be a bit easier to handle and help build that tolerance up.
Good luck! I hope you do stick with it.
To flex, of course.
Patch
??
Dramamine bro dramamine
I almost said this, but I didn't feel entirely comfortable suggesting an actual drug in a video. Ginger was about as far as I was willing to go.
