We absolutely loved this- watching you speak with so much passion about this and share such valuable insights, beyond inspirational! Thank you for such an incredible video!
Understand the sport you put so perfectly, I work with a lot of professional skiers and snowboarders, I was a professional snowboarder for 14 years so it becomes second nature to know what to look for. When your shooting something you don't really know much about, its so important to almost become obsessed with it prior to your shoot, fully indulge yourself in that 1 thing so you know exactly what your doing when it comes to shoot day.
I love the confidence in bringing such minimal gear. It's a good lesson for me. If I were in those shoes I'd feel the pressure of the opportunity and want to make everything perfect, especially with lighting/audio. But that's not the point. Comfort of the athlete and story over everything 🙌
The doc got pushed to my homepage and I was like I’ve heard of this name but I don’t know much about her. Clicked to watch it and was really impressed by the production value and storytelling of it. Good work!
I also ran track in High School and I am a fan of Sydeny’s. As someone who follows her legendary performances… I saw that she posted a video on her channel sometime last week and the thumbnail of the video (the same one you are using) looked intriguing. So I watched and was immediately sucked in by the storytelling, the tone, the pacing and “cinematic” feel of the piece. Halfway through watching, I kept asking myself, “Who shot this? This looks like a movie!” and then I saw the “Directed By:” credit at the end and it all made sense. Lol. Of course, it’s Danny G. Team McLaughlin-Levrone couldn’t have chosen a better director for this project, Danny-your indefatigable talent and kind soul is such a perfect match with the dedication, light and excellence Sydeny reflects. My favorite shot of the doc was the ice-bath moment. The way Sydney hovers over the tub, while the camera hangs back to give space before eventually moving in after the plunge is simply brilliant! Thank you for making this video, giving us more insight into the process of getting the gig and what it took to pull it off. Appreciate you man, much love 👊🏿💪🏿
Watching 72 hours in Paris made me comeback here and rewatch this video again. You did an absolutely amazing and inspiring job! Keep up the great work and your great videos!
Danny this is so spot on! I've said the same thing for a while, and it's cool to hear you also talk about it. Giving athletes the space to work while you are filming is a must. I feel like sometimes sports creatives are so excited for their opportunity, especially when they get to work with a high-level pro athlete. I think anyone who gets to that level, rightfully so should be hyped and try to do the best work they can, but always keep in mind the athlete is a work and practice, the day before the game, and game day is something they need to give their full attention to... not doing things to make your video better. I take a fly-on-the-wall approach to most situations I'm in with pro athletes unless we have discussed something different. This video is really dope for anyone looking to get into creative sports video work. You the man Danny, much love.
Absolutely brilliant bro. Great advice for people wanting to work with pro athletes. Saw the thumbnail on her page and immediately recognized your style. Congrats Danny, job well done.
This is great, super useful to see how you approach working with athletes as I do that as well. I like the look of this. Feels intimate and still looks great.
I absolutely get why even after working with those other great athletes, you were stoked to work with Sidney. She, in my opinion, will be an historical athlete, and she truly does come off as a great person. Thanks for creating and you now have a new subscriber.
I literally just watched that video a couple days ago, because I enjoy watching track and field as well. Sydney is the best and I really enjoyed that short doc then to learn that the filmmaker you watch filmed it is surreal, excellent work!!
The full video is absolutely insane man! The tip about the master interview after the events have happened is pure gold, a lot of people forget this! If you are ever in the UK and need someone for BTS hit me up!
Finally found someone that I aspire to be!! You were recommended by members of the Fulltime Filmmakers group. I've been struggling to decide whether to go with the Canon R5C or the Sony FX 3 for over a month now and you finally just answered my question. Definitely going with the Sony!!! Best of luck to you, and hopefully I'll be following a few of the Golfers around the PGA tour someday! Thank you for putting this together!!
Just had to stop back after watch the doc. Really really well done Danny! The way you painted her into a normal person was beautiful. Wonderful shots and colors as always. Appreciate the simplicity to the edit. No fancy transitions, just clean shots and a wonderful story! Thanks Danny!
Danny, thank you so much for making this video about your video with Sydney. You answered all the questions that came to mind as I watched that video and found out that you produced it. It's great to know that you and your wife are track fans. I'm happy for you that you get to work with my favorite track athlete. Blessings!
Love this Danny. It's crazy to see the progress you're making with soundscapes. Every video they just keep getting better and better. It's inspired me to work on that aspect of my filmmaking. Thanks brother.
Thanks for being so open and sharing your unique approach! Really appreciate how open you are to us who aspire to doing something like you've already done!
as I watched this video on her page I had to check who directed it because the cinematography was top tier, and to no surprise it was you listed in the credits… good work bro big inspiration for me and my film journey 🤝🏾
i got chills multiple times throughout the entire doc. I think I would just give up on a shot if the movement wasn't stable but the way you captured the entire doc...wow. made me rethink everything. the little details, the "huh" at 8:11, the slow-mo to real time at the finish line. everything! thank you for the masterclass
The composition and design of this film are genuine goals for me. Your work is remarkably beautiful and captures the emotions evoked throughout the film. Thank you for this
I watched this and then watched the final video on her page and wow. Your way of capturing visuals and telling stories is so inspiring dude. Keep doing your thing Danny!
Had the privilege of working with Sydney during her time with the University of Kentucky Track Program. She was always great to work with and destined for this level of success. Great job humanizing her throughout the piece and showcasing her personality/mentality off the track. Hopefully your partnership continues in the future. Awesome work (as always) Danny!
Wow . I'm so much excited to find this video. I am a track athlete and also a filmmaker .. I love doing both but lately my focus has been going so much in sports- track and field that at a point I got confused which one to stick with professionaly .. so at last, I decided to quit athletics , ofcourse not completely but so I could focus on filmmaking.. So I thought I should start by shooting a documtary video of one of the athletes we train together.. so it's really nice to find videos like this so I could take som tips
A huge thank you to yourself and Sydney. I absolutely loved the video - it felt like a movie. A detailed view into race prep and competition atmosphere. Needless to say I’ve watched it several times and this only added to my enjoyment and intrigue.
Just watched the video, you did a remarkable job of storytelling and honoring Sydney. Great work. She also seems like such a cool person. Awesome work. Inspiring.
Danny, great short documentary with Sydney in Paris! Great story storytelling and editings and sound design. Well put together and amazing work. You definitely inspired me to do more short docs and you showed me a better way to do it! Thank you.
Finished product turned out incredible! You really nailed the pacing too. The order of the shots and placement of master/in-situ interviews were clearly strategic and effective. Great work!
I loved the doc and this insides you give out for free, really helps a lot of us to get inspired. Would love some small insides on the color grading and editing process of this!
danny your work is so inspiring, seeing this documentary just as im finalising my first has allowed for reflection on what I need to work on to develop my own style, in saying that the birds eye view you give of your work flow and all that is truely awesome, and something that I really appreciate
Former athlete here , its a language between an athlete and your camera of knowing the limits to make sure you get all your shots, This project was literally perfect for you.
Danny I would love to learn more about your finance side of these kinds of projects. I love these kinds of videos, although I think educating videographers on your pricing, and figuring out/talking about budgets with clients, athletes etc. would be super helpful. Thanks :)
@@DannyGevirtz 100% completely understand, this stuff is sensitive for your clients as well as yourself. I wonder if you would be able to go about it in a generic, broad way, or even speak more about your process rather than numbers? Thanks Danny
Derek Wright, CJ Saunders, Damiere Byrd. In case you wanted to know who the 3rd string Wide receivers were 😊. Great video, I just shot a player profile for my cousin who is close to going pro in soccer as a goalkeeper. I tried to have a vision in mind when I shot the day, the plan went bye bye and just shot mostly on feeling and instinct.
Brilliant work you made bro, absolutely brilliant. I've seen the documentary like 10times just on the first day, I really love the editing. Hoping you can give more insight into the editing process, what inspired that editing style and how you came about the delivery. Big ups✌
Man, thank you so much for sharing this. I already watched the documentary and it was delightful. You are an inspiration. Hope I keep learning from you as I'm doing now❤
Amazing job. A bunch of commenters on her account are asking for a full documentary. Maybe you should produce an HBO 24/7 like 4 part series for the build up to the Olympics - that would be legit!
I’m a fan of Sydney’s, so when I saw she came out with the mini-doc it was a pleasant surprise reading “Directed by Danny Gevirtz” in the description. Thank you for putting your life and career out here for us to see, Danny. It’s been awesome following you over the last few years. You helped me believe I could find another passion after my athletic career. You have been a guide for me on this journey. I love you. (Danny voice)

Thank you!!

I felt exactly the same while watching all two of them!
I can’t get over the look you pulled off with a 24-70. The colour is next level too. Well done as always Danny, ever inspiring.
