I have been looking around for so long to find a video that explains and shows how to film more action sport shots and angles. And this is SPOT ON! Thank YOU!
Point A to Point B. Capture everything in between wide medium, close, and details. I love this simplification to help tell the story. Always love your work Danny. If you are ever down in South Florida, I’d love to hold a 4x4 for you!
I watched NALA and its a great film, I am from Kenya and just discovered your channel. I love the way you take us into the world of film. Watching your tutorials feels like we are right their making the film with you. I will camp here to learn everything film.
I've made my short "career" out of editing for RUclips, which is an entirely different beast than this. Love seeing the contrast between "jump cut, max engagement, super fast paced, made for younger RUclips audience" and what goes into something much more "professional," dare I say "cinematic" Super helpful as always!
Very awesome to see the difference in the way it’s shot. When he is performing and focused the camera is on the gimbal. Almost portraying how he is locked in. Then at the beginning and end it’s hand held almost giving the audience the feeling of feeling shook seeing the task before him and trembling after finishing the lap.
Danny great run down for me. I loved how you broke down the whole method, showed how to do it, and then put it all together along w/ another brief explanation to why to did this the way you did it. Helps understand the whole process. I will DEFINITELY use these sound tips. Thanks!
If you are ever in the Pittsburgh area and want to talk to Middle School Students, you are a natural teacher and I would love to have you in my classroom - thx for the episode!
Things like focal point continuity… are these things that you’re aware of and paying attention to when you shoot? I’d love to understand what the main things are which you think of in the 5 mins before you hit record. As a filmmaker just starting out it’s easy to get overwhelmed even with a lot of pre-planning. 🙂 And thank you man. Casey and you, my biggest inspirations. 🖤
I love the attention to detail and that you stay aware of things like which arm is raised at the end of shot C compared to the start of shot D. It's kinda like in a movie or show when they cut scenes during dialogue from a person smiling and in the next scene they're stone faced even though the audio carried over. I don't know the technical terms for all that but you know what I mean haha.
Depending on the context of the story, turning jumpcuts into matchcuts could be really cool. Running in the sunshine *matchcut*, running in the rain etc. Great video Danny!
Bro! You are sooo clever! These are things i NEVER think about when shooting. I just random shoot stuff and throw it together. This makes it sooo seemeless! Incredible! Danny you are the man. I enjoy all your videos. Also you really have some special talent with the sound. It all blends so well together!
Wah wah wah!!! "har chhota badalaav badee kaamayaabee ka hissa hota hai" it's a saying in hindi which translate "Every small change is a part of a bigger success" wah wah Danny bhai, amazing!
Hey. I’ve heard you talk about frame rate before but I have specific question related to the running / cycling vids. I was shooting a bicycle sequence at 60 fps and 125 shutter speed. The footage looks quite blurry (motion blur). Should I crank up the shutter to 250? I want to keep 60 fps if possible because I want to go in and out if slow motion at 50% speed. Thanks!
In the social media age when montages are so fast you can hardly see what’s going on, it’s crazy how much more you feel when you let your edit breath. I felt out of breath after he kept going, then seeing him get ready and go again… I was winded and immediately got what you were trying to convey!
Particularly the explanations behind your intentions with each shot and why you chose what you did. The theory behind movements and angles. All really great.
Just wanted to thank for all the content you put out! Your videos have inspired me to start my filmmaking career. I'm 16 and hear everyday the need to get a formal job, but you motivated me to start now following my dream career and try to build my portfolio, develop my skills and reach my goals. I am making my first short film this week! Thanks again!
I really appreciate the point about having a plan ahead of time. I almost never have a plan, and while running and gunning is fun, I am more-often-than-not completely overwhelmed because I don't know where I'm going. Thanks for sharing this!
You’ve been so much help to me over the last year, my creative thought process behind my videos/films have seen substantial improvement, thanks to you Danny!
I really appreciate the editing tips. I'm in the midst of editing my first sports sequence for an annual awards event and this was tremendously helpful.
Shots you'll get when Tyler's running 200m - showing lack of flexibility at starting line, significant pace fall off after 40m, cramp around 170m, limping over the finish line with some choice words, laying down in the middle of the track after, closing shot of ambulance pulling up
That was beautiful. You explaining in detail the purpose of every shot and then watching the clip unfold is art bro. Mad love from a fan in New Zealand 🙌🏽
The gimbal shots look so smooth from the one wheel, and I love the creative idea to bring the ladder with you and get a super high up shot like that. Really nice Danny, thanks for sharing my bro
The frickin sound design bro....🔥 definitely brought back moments of those sprint workouts for track and that internal battle to do one more! Thanks for the breakdown bro!
Also isn’t it odd that the large majority of your commenters are seemingly male? Where are all the should-be-present female videographers and fans? Oddly balanced recommendation algorithms I suppose.
thank you I always found myself recording sports engagement without any preplanning and would up trying to figure out the story in post which was hard times, but your video gave some clarity on the process.
I can always see your style! The Storytelling Cinamatic and beautiful creations to the eye s ;) The flow and pace is always sooooo Natural. Keep it up Danny 🤘🏻
I just discovered your channel. I love how straight to the point with useful info you actually are. Planning on watching rest of your videos. Thank you doing a good job! Can you please twll me what lense did you use for shooting this athlete? I have a Sony a7 iv, and i think this lens would cover plenty of needs..
Hey Danny, Great tips on another great video, you really speak to me in your way of doing things. Hope you are settling in well from the sudden move back to Continental USA. Hope this is a positive thing move for you. ( You seemed so happy and Zen in Hawaii ) maybe someday you will explain the why of the move, really interested in hearing about you and how you are really doing, I feel you are part of the family and care about you! Keep giving us the Great content. Love you man!
Wooow, looks great. You keep inspiring me to get into video so much thanks. I've watching your videos from the day you met the *_Guy_* from *Uganda*, that was great of you man. I appreciate your kindness, hope we meet one day.😆😆👍👍🙌🙌

Awesome lesson! Really learned and absorbed a lot from this.I'm always trying to get better and videos like this help me lot. Thanks so much. Love from Brazil 💙💙
I have the same setup as you but I'm having a hard time with audio. Like in your shots where you're on the One Wheel...how did you get such isolated sound without all of the wind? Is that something you do in post or are you overlaying audio from a different clip where you weren't moving? Also there were scenes where I could see cars going by, how did you keep those unwanted sounds to a minimum? Was the music just masking that background noise?

Great video once again Danny! I've recently been shooting some sports brand videos for a local clothing company and will definitely apply these tips to my workflow!
“Focal Point Continuity” is definitely a phrase I am going to start telling myself when editing. Thanks for the tip!
Haha I may have made it up
@@DannyGevirtz even if you did just make the phrase up it makes total sense.
Agree. Really good point!

Well done Danny. I was wheezing just from tieing my shoe laces. Oh to be young again.
