“Focal Point Continuity” is definitely a phrase I am going to start telling myself when editing. Thanks for the tip!
Haha I may have made it up
@@DannyGevirtz even if you did just make the phrase up it makes total sense.
Agree. Really good point!
I have been looking around for so long to find a video that explains and shows how to film more action sport shots and angles. And this is SPOT ON! Thank YOU!
I've made my short "career" out of editing for RUclips, which is an entirely different beast than this. Love seeing the contrast between "jump cut, max engagement, super fast paced, made for younger RUclips audience" and what goes into something much more "professional," dare I say "cinematic"
Super helpful as always!
Haha just different genres! Thanks man
Who else is fully invested whenever Danny post!
Haha thank you!!
Point A to Point B. Capture everything in between wide medium, close, and details.
I love this simplification to help tell the story. Always love your work Danny. If you are ever down in South Florida, I’d love to hold a 4x4 for you!
Thanks Sean! That’d be sweet haha
Shots you'll get when Tyler's running 200m - showing lack of flexibility at starting line, significant pace fall off after 40m, cramp around 170m, limping over the finish line with some choice words, laying down in the middle of the track after, closing shot of ambulance pulling up
Lmfao!!! Love that point a to point b
Thats some great storytelling! Full of conflict and character development, and it's a tragedy lol!
You’ve been so much help to me over the last year, my creative thought process behind my videos/films have seen substantial improvement, thanks to you Danny!
Amazing to hear. Thank you!
Danny great run down for me. I loved how you broke down the whole method, showed how to do it, and then put it all together along w/ another brief explanation to why to did this the way you did it. Helps understand the whole process. I will DEFINITELY use these sound tips. Thanks!
Thank you dude!
I don't even shoot "Cinematic Action Sequences" and I loved this! 🙌🏼 Thanks Danny
Can't help but like all of your vids before I begin watching. Glad you're back!
Very awesome to see the difference in the way it’s shot. When he is performing and focused the camera is on the gimbal. Almost portraying how he is locked in. Then at the beginning and end it’s hand held almost giving the audience the feeling of feeling shook seeing the task before him and trembling after finishing the lap.
Definitely thank you!
Man love the breakdown and how you focus on the details in each shot
Thank you 🙏
Things like focal point continuity… are these things that you’re aware of and paying attention to when you shoot?
I’d love to understand what the main things are which you think of in the 5 mins before you hit record.
As a filmmaker just starting out it’s easy to get overwhelmed even with a lot of pre-planning. 🙂
And thank you man. Casey and you, my biggest inspirations. 🖤
Yeah man, I try to plan everything out before I even get there. It takes years to feel comfortable before you hit record
That was beautiful. You explaining in detail the purpose of every shot and then watching the clip unfold is art bro. Mad love from a fan in New Zealand 🙌🏽
I absolutely love your videos, they look amazing are simple but they convey the message clearly
Bro! You are sooo clever! These are things i NEVER think about when shooting. I just random shoot stuff and throw it together. This makes it sooo seemeless! Incredible! Danny you are the man. I enjoy all your videos. Also you really have some special talent with the sound. It all blends so well together!
Thank you for helping us level up our content! Definitely going to be using focal point continuity as a tool for my edits.
Thanks Joe!
Well done Danny. I was wheezing just from tieing my shoe laces. Oh to be young again.
I really appreciate the point about having a plan ahead of time. I almost never have a plan, and while running and gunning is fun, I am more-often-than-not completely overwhelmed because I don't know where I'm going. Thanks for sharing this!
Have a plan is so important!
Love videos like this that give a simple way of thinking to approach filmmaking! Great video Danny! 😄
Thanks Conor!
I love the attention to detail and that you stay aware of things like which arm is raised at the end of shot C compared to the start of shot D. It's kinda like in a movie or show when they cut scenes during dialogue from a person smiling and in the next scene they're stone faced even though the audio carried over. I don't know the technical terms for all that but you know what I mean haha.
Dropping sooooo many gems. 💎 Definitely will help add more value to my work, especially since I’m just getting started. Gratitude! 🙏🏾
So glad you enjoyed Briana! Thank you!
Just wanted to thank for all the content you put out! Your videos have inspired me to start my filmmaking career. I'm 16 and hear everyday the need to get a formal job, but you motivated me to start now following my dream career and try to build my portfolio, develop my skills and reach my goals. I am making my first short film this week! Thanks again!
Amazing to hear man! Thank you!
Super helpful as someone doing more narrative work after years of run and gun shooting! Thank you 🙌🙌
Thanks Ari!
Thanks again, Danny, I'm putting this one on loop. Kia kaha (stay strong) from New Zealand
YESS ANOTHER SPORTS VID, as a sports photographer im starting to do sports videography too
No one better than Danny to teach us 🔥🔥
Thanks Elisa!!
This is crazy good. Especially the jump cut and focal point, points. This guy is so good at this.

Great video/tutorial, as always... Invaluable tips for beginners on how to set up the shots and sequence. "Obrigado" from Portugal and keep it up!
Thank you sir!
Loved this! Definitely keep making more of these types of videos. Extremely helpful!
Particularly the explanations behind your intentions with each shot and why you chose what you did. The theory behind movements and angles. All really great.
Thanks man!!
Nice crash course on putting a sequence together. All of these things I subconsciously do 👍🏽
Thanks brotha!!

The gimbal shots look so smooth from the one wheel, and I love the creative idea to bring the ladder with you and get a super high up shot like that. Really nice Danny, thanks for sharing my bro
Thanks my brotha!
love this bro! really simplifies things and that tip on where to direct the viewers eye's is golden, appreciate it bro!
Thanks bro!!
Very well done man. This sequence could very much play in a larger narrative film.

I‘m learning so much from you! Thank you!
Pumped to hear that man! Thank you!
Great video once again Danny! I've recently been shooting some sports brand videos for a local clothing company and will definitely apply these tips to my workflow!
Thanks brotha!!
If you are ever in the Pittsburgh area and want to talk to Middle School Students, you are a natural teacher and I would love to have you in my classroom - thx for the episode!
Thanks Oliver!
In the social media age when montages are so fast you can hardly see what’s going on, it’s crazy how much more you feel when you let your edit breath. I felt out of breath after he kept going, then seeing him get ready and go again… I was winded and immediately got what you were trying to convey!
Thank you Sam!!
Me ha gustado mucho las composiciones en tus videos! Gran trabajo.
Thank you!
Wah wah wah!!! "har chhota badalaav badee kaamayaabee ka hissa hota hai" it's a saying in hindi which translate "Every small change is a part of a bigger success" wah wah Danny bhai, amazing!
Haha not sure what that means but thank you!
Such a helpful breakdown man! Always got the golden wisdom nuggets 🤙🏼
Thank you player!
Awesome Dany as always 👏
Thanks as always man!
Nice bro the ladder shot looked sweet with the shadow.
Thanks man!
master class
best teacher ever!!!!
Your face is!
Depending on the context of the story, turning jumpcuts into matchcuts could be really cool. Running in the sunshine *matchcut*, running in the rain etc. Great video Danny!
That’s a montage! Not a continuous sequence like I mentioned. Thanks man
@@DannyGevirtz That's totally true.
Hey. I’ve heard you talk about frame rate before but I have specific question related to the running / cycling vids. I was shooting a bicycle sequence at 60 fps and 125 shutter speed. The footage looks quite blurry (motion blur). Should I crank up the shutter to 250? I want to keep 60 fps if possible because I want to go in and out if slow motion at 50% speed. Thanks!
I’m learning how to use diff focal lengths and sometimes it feels off. I think that thing about the focal point was might’ve been it! I’m going to give it a try thanks Dan! 🏆🥇🔑 you’re number 1!
Thank you dude!
Thanks alot for making this video
Some really great advice! Definitely taking notes!
Thanks Cohen!
thank you I always found myself recording sports engagement without any preplanning and would up trying to figure out the story in post which was hard times, but your video gave some clarity on the process.
Thanks dude!
@@DannyGevirtz your welcome 🤗
You’re my Film coach😍 🎥🔥
Glad to be that for you!
6:18 this made me laugh so much, I wasn’t expecting it after such a serious video 😂
Hahah thanks man
Focal point continuity... I'm taking that into consideration when next i go out there to shoot. Thanks Danny 🥂
Thanks David!
Danny G.O.A.T Gervitz I like your videos bro!
Thanks man!
Glad to see you on the one wheel again! Haha
Thanks man!
This is gold Danny
Thank you!
@@DannyGevirtz I've always struggled with my handheld footage, yours always looks like it's natural but not too shaky. Do you think it could be that my setup is too light? Setup is an A7SIII with smallrig half cage and 24-70 f2.8. I don't have a top handle (might be purchasing soon) so perhaps I'm rotating the body too much because my contact points are right and left of camera, also not supporting the lens could be causing a ton of bobble....
so cool, thank you very much for the tip. After watching running short film and baseball short film, i became fan of your work danny. One thing I love is your pacing, you are master of it, do you any tips on how to pace your edits to tell story, how long to hold a shot. If I watch first 10 seconds of your videos , I will probably finish your whole video even if I have seen it countless times, thats how good they are. Your videos are inspiring man. Keep creating and keep teaching us stuff.
Thanks so much man!
