Thanks so much for this video. I have never done this and this video is encouraging! I may attempt to do this tomorrow, provided that the weather cooperates. Thanks!
We used to have a Big-O tire store right down the street from where I live on Alameda street, so I was thinking along those lines. Yeah I was born there (Castle A.F.B.) but I never tell anyone.
I just bought a 2002 chevy prizm or as some have told me toyota corolla & it has about 155k miles on it. I bought it because its a necesity to me and wanted to know if you could estimate how much longer it could last me ?
I have 1996 geo prizm 1.8 liter. It just turned 300000 miles. The water went out .But no worries, I will replace it myself. Toyota dealer thought it could go another 100000. With proper maintenance. Good luck Timing belt and water pump replacement , and oil changes. Which I do myself. These cars just RUN...Take of it and it willtakecare of you..
2000's models aren't as good as their 1990's counterparts (they started needlessly over-complicating the engineering around then), but they're a far sight better than current models for damn sure. Otherwise, what really matters is IF the previous owner(s) actually had it serviced on time. Chiefly, changing the oil. There's spring-loaded oil bearings around these pistons and once those seize, they're done - it'll start burning oil rather badly, shortly followed up with carbon fouled valves (when you will notice a problem, as there will be unmistakable loss of horse power) and then it's about totaled without a tear down and rebuild. If that's not yet going on, then I'd have to recommend looking up Marvel Mystery oil, sure corny name BUT it is legit one of the few "additives" that actually does work. It will clean up and lube your top-end over time, and buy you additional engine life. It doesn't cost much and nor is very much of it required. You put in 4oz for every 10 gallons of GAS (if your gas tank is also a 13.2 gallon, then its 5.20 ounces of MMO), and you add between 10-20% MMO of your OIL volume. If you put too much MMO in, however, the damn O2 sensor may pitch a fit (the carbon will be being burned off of the crankcase and fuel injection system... and with that sensor, you want to happen SLOWLY. So do not ever over-do it). But its been being used in all kinds of motors since the wee 1920's. It really works, it doesn't hurt anything in the engine proper. Great stuff.
I did the same thing with the "air ram" tube. But I used a mesh in front so I don't suck every bug and leaf up in there. Works and sounds good. How many beers were consumed during the production of this video?
thought I'd mention ign .coil cracks the cap in the distributor sometimes shorts blows 10a.ffuse in car. left strut spg. broke 40$ junk yard looked almost new.
I also have a Geo Prizm and was wondering what was it exactly you did on the air filter part. I couldn't really hear and also want to add an air intake.
Anthony Martinez I ran tubing from the front, a coupler, also you need to reinstall the air intake sensor. I got everything from the hardware store and auto parts store of choice.
I’ve been looking everywhere for that timing belt cover not the top part but the longer bottom part I’d highly appreciate if anyone can send me a link to buy it online I can’t find it anywhere
Check to see if the #1 piston is at the top stroke by putting a screw driver in the hole and see if the timing mark is at 10 BTDC if you do not see the mark the belt was put on with the cam and crank gears 180 off so its on the exhaust stroke, it can look correct but you must check #1 piston to make sure it is on the compression stroke and you can see the mark on the timing plate. I also changed the distributor, got it on Amazon that made a big difference in performance as it had 150,000 miles on it.
+ladyslovethisman Try turning the distributor back and forth when someone is cranking the engine.. also make sure spark plug wires are correct. Even I get that wrong.
Tengo un geo prizm 95 4 puertas automatico, el alternador no esta funcionando, cuando trato de encender el vehiculo las luces del panel no prenden y lo quite y se lo lleve a un electricista y este dijo que el alternador esta bien, cual puede ser el problema
You need a timing light and at 27:24 I show how to do the jump thing if it's not posted on the hood with the vacuum hose routing. You do not need to jump but the timing mark is jumpy other wise.
Hello my friend, I hope and I hope to get this book because it is not available in my country. Please, please help me with this thing and I will continue to owe you my life Toyota Corolla & Geo / Chevrolet Prizm (93-02) Haynes Repair Manual This is the title of the book. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and do not forget to help me
Texass? No! I am today in the land of Fruits and Nuts, you know the things that keep you healthy. F that 64 oz soda with my Pink cookie, tell me what to do!
Thanks for the help.

You did so much more work than needed!
How would you do it?
Hey man great video. Thanks. Any advice with the timing light? Not sure how to go about that
@Taxminia0311 - The Prizm/Camry from this era are an exception--the water pump can be replaced without opening up the timing belt.
How many liters of automatic transmission oil carry those boxes is bad if it is over-level I have one from 1994 Toyota corolla
Better than nothing that is on RUclips so far
