I just bought myself a Traeger for mother days. I was really nervous but My first chicken turned out great. My husband said he would keep me around for another 50 years if I keep cooking like this. Ribs are next!
I got a Traeger 124 about 20 or more years ago and it still works great. With a few upgrades. Wish RUclips would let people post a few photos with there comments ? Okay I'll make a video .
I like that you were honest with your comments, both pro and con, just like anything in life, nothing perfect .i wish I would have bought a pellet grill a long time ago instead of wasting a lot of money on store bought thriw always that only last a few years,I love my Traeger no matter what anybody says.
Me too Tim. If i would have bought one 10 grills ago, i would still have a traeger that works and money in my pocket. Like many things, if you pay the price up front, it pays you back in the future.
I love my Treagers and have never regretted buying them! Don't know about the new ones but mine are extremely well built with heavy gauge materials and I expect they will probably last another 20 years easy! Just keep them cleaned out and dry on the inside. They have seen hundreds if not thousands of pounds of meat! I have used it to cook any and everything! It makes a mean smoked cobbler!
Main difference to the new ones are the grates now separate into thirds making cleaning even easier! Also got a cast iron grate third if you want to sear that will get up to 500+ for a quick sear (pro tip use it upside down for a better sear)
When I got my Traeger,I got tons of extra stuff, rubs, sauces, cover, and a real good deal, but mines a old ☝️,and as far as pellets they have Traeger pellets at all ace hardware stores, nationwide.
No doubt. Per cooking time in hours, propane is vastly cheaper. You can offset that buying cheap pellets, but when that is your fuel source AND flavor source, why would you? It always amazes me when people spend a lot on the Traeger name and on huge cuts of meat but can’t spend a few a few bucks more on quality fuel.
Great Video. I have had my " Lil Tex " for several years. Your pros and cons are pretty much spot on. I added the flip up shelf and a bottom self. I have prepared many different meals on mine, including pizza and pies. I have received many good comments on my grilling. The ribs are always a big hit. I have used all of the pellet flavours I can find. I will not go back to any other type of grill. I do agree wind is a factor. Mine sits on a open porch with a roof overhead. I still grill in the winter, it just takes a bit longer. I have thought about the wrap you can purchase for the grill and cover it up a bit. I really have not had a problem with the Traeger Grill.
@@live.life.simple. Like most folks, mine sits on the deck outside and I live in the upper reaches of the Rockies. I've fired mine up at 40 below many times and she just keeps tickin.
Believe me, you will not regret getting a pellet grill. I own a Traeger now and my wife gets a little jealous with how much time I spend with the grill and how excited I get when I get time to use it. LOL
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I am currently looking in to getting one. Currently have a nat-gas unit but, coming from charcoal, there is a HUGE loss of flavor. Looking forward to a Traeger. Subd ya bro. Peace+
Does the stick burner give more wood flavor than the traeger? I have the traeger select and it doesn't seem to have a lot of smoke flavor, in fact very little, compared to my UDS.
Thank you for the review , I also own a Traeger and was just wondering why you never spoke about the hopper ,how much it holds , how easy it is to empty if you want to change out the pellets to a different flavour.I know myself it was important when I was buying to check that part out, but maybe that’s just me...lol , Great video though
I was raised on charcoal, then my dad got propane. 35 years later I went back to charcoal for 1 year before buying my Traeger. The move to charcoal was good, but the move to my Traeger has caused my taste buds to become spoiled. 2 years in and it is stil running top shape. here in Quebec our winters our cold and windy, but I put my Traeger in the shed (slightly opened a window to air out the smoke) and cooked all year long. I have several hardware stores around me that sell both Traeger pellets and other pellet brands too. The only con to my Traeger --- I'm gaining weight
I've had mine for 5 years. I haven't had any issues with it. I've been looking for a better one, but they are all about the same. As far as the wind affecting the temperature, I bought a oversized welding blanket heavy one, and set it over the smoker in the cold and windy Michigan days. It keeps the temperature within 5-10 degrees.
Its funny Ive always used charcoal grills. Never liked propane. One of my family members bought the Treagor and we liked it so much they bought me one as a gift. I will never go back to charcoal unless im camping.
Adrian P can you tell me what size and what the brand name is of the welding blanket you bought please and what size Treager you have? we are having a hard time with the wind here.
Some people don't think it gets hot enough to do steaks (max 450 on mine, i think the new one goes to 500). Hamburgers are the best ever. Here's my burger video: ruclips.net/video/b4jwOuYI2kU/видео.html
Retired at 40- Live.Life.Simple. I don’t know about you but smoking a steak for an hour and then turning it on high and cook for 3-4 minutes is about the best I’ve had.
I used my grill ONCE just to prep it to use. turned it off and now NOTHING, won't power on. Yes the cord and power source is just fine. So now instead of cooking on the damn thing I have to become a freaking mechanic. For the hundreds and hundreds of dollars I spent, I am furious. I'll just go back to my charcoal grill, at least fire doesn't fail. Sorry a.. excuse of a grill.
I enjoy using my Traeger, but keeping the thing working has been a nightmare. First hot rod burned out in about 4 months, and got it replaced under warranty. A little over two years, the next hot rod burned out, and I was manually starting it for a few months until I got a replacement. That one pops the fuse every time it tries to start up. Everything is traeger brand, and I've only been using Traeger pellets, and keeping it covered (in a very dry climate). It's convenient, and I get spectacular results, but man three years on I'm kinda regretting not getting the green egg every time I have to go partially disassemble it to get it lit.
@@live.life.simple. Believe it is a Pro-Series 34-Inch. It's one with the gold grill cover, but black pellet cover. Likely 2017 manufacture date if there's different generations...
I love my Traeger. I have a great rub recipe that I use and I’ve watched a lot of shows about smoking. I use both propane and my Traeger. It all depends on what I’m cooking. Biggest thing I’ve found out is try different Traeger wood pellets. This way you dial in the flavor you want. The biggest pro about owning a Traeger is the fact you never need to buy other people’s smoked meats. Just smoke your own. It’s the best grill/smoker I’ve ever had. It makes my neighbors a bit jealous because the area around the house smells so damn good.
As far as pellets go, I know they also sell them at Walmart. They’re made by pit boss, but i like them. And I bought a 20lb bag for like 10 bucks. They also sell bigger bags too.
How is it in colder/winter months? That's my only concern; does the lower temperature throw off the cooking Temps in the grill? I get the heavier ironwood and timberline versions would remedy any issues, I'm just really curious how the pro serious does. The idea of smoking in the winter without having to babysit the food outside is what I'm here for
I cooked steaks on our bonfire this afternoon. I had oak scraps from by buddies wood shop. On a bonfire you have radiant, convection and conduction heat. I have a Z grill (treager copy) I doubt if you can ever burn anything . $325 and free shipping. Better design than Treager my opinion as a 84 year old with 50 years experience in engineering. I like the easy start and the cleanliness as well as the cool condition. I will not get rid of my Weber. and I still have my gas grill with a modification that gives me 600 degrees. Iguana
I’ve had a pro 22 for awhile now it definitely doesn’t hold the temperature to within 5 degrees. Also I clean my grill after every 3 cooks 10-20 you’re food probably taste like wood dust.
I'm not sure what you mean by with dust there's never been any wood dust in mind for 9 years.... What I vacuum out of mine is called ash..... With a small $30 shop vac.
Hi. I have just learned about Traeger and very interested. Our propane grill is about to meet its demise and I'm trying to convince my husband to buy a Traeger. I would like to know if you use your Traeger if you are going to only grill 3 to 4 burgers or chicken breasts? Basically, small amounts of food. Thanks. Love your site.
yes. it is my only grill and only smoker. I think once you have food prepared on wood fired, you will never want to go back to propane. Its cost is quite a bit more, but propane grilled only last a few years at best. The traeger does not get exposed to grease like a propane does, so the barrel/ burner don't get filled with crud. If you are buying from Home Depot do your research on their model. I think it is possibly a lesser quality model built only for Home Depot.
Thanks for the video. I just ordered a Traeger Renegade Pro. My wife wanted to have it before Christmas. I am super stoked about using it. I think a pork shoulder will be the Christmas meal. Thanks for your video and the Pizza video (can't wait to try that!). I'm looking forward to more vid's from you. PS, I retired at 50.
Congrats on being retired at 50 and congrats on the traeger. Make sure you season your grill properly and follow the starting directions. Pork shoulder is awesome!
I too got a renegade Pro awesome machine had some issues with it but they sent me the new parts with no problem pause for me to exchange them I asked him what will they do for me they sent me what I wanted I'm extra Shelf and a cover for it so don't be afraid to have them send you something for free if you're doing the work on it
You can cover your drip tray with heavy duty tinfoil and about every 3rd cook replace it....... If you're out of tin foil or don't have time to cover the drip tray its no problem scraping it off with a bent handled paint scraper.
Great video thanks for that, i'm from the uk and it's a lot harder to get a good bbq/grill here and more expensive, but i have been watching a few videos on these pellet grills and the Traeger brand is available quite freely here, one quick question in 2 years of owning your grill have you had to change the heat rod or anything else other than the control unit obviously i wont be grilling as much as you down to our bad weather but read some things on the net where people said they last about a year so???? but still gonna be my next purchase after my holiday, thanks again
Last night was my first time using my pro 575. Did initial burn the day before and watched RUclips videos on people’s advice in cooking. I cook for my family of 7 almost every night and I know what I’m doing in the kitchen as an amateur. Cooked chicken breasts and ribeye steaks together. Did a reverse sear for the first time as per video guidelines. Make my own rubs and a compound butter. Never have I tasted chicken that delicious in my life! I’m not a white meat chicken fan but it had an amazing flavor that 8 of us could not stop commenting on after every bite. Steak was amazing as well. If your thinking of spending the money, one mans advice is by all means make the investment. Completely blown away with this pellet grill. Salmon tonight on it. Can’t wait!
I love my Traeger but kept my gas grill for steaks. The Traeger is great for chicken and pork but 450 is not hot enough to properly cook steaks. Also, other companies have caught up to Traeger and you can get a pellet grill for a lot cheaper than these. Traeger is like Yeti and Big Green Egg. Other stuff is just as good but without the marketing machines that these guys have.
Traeger just released their new model and made a big deal about it being able to go to higher temps. It still only goes to 500. I think that it might have to do with the fuel source.
Had mine about 6 yrs. now and love it. They have a great customer service, had a problem, called their tech support and got problem solved. They even sent me a part free of charge. No questions asked
I've had mine about 5 years (large Texas size). It makes great food, but I think the materials are crap. I've replaced the hot rod 4-5 times, and the last one I got was defective. I also had to replace the firepot as it was rusted through and the screws were shot. Both the heat shield and drip tray are rusty and severely warped. The lid sagged, so I had to BUY the door stop that Traeger now puts on all grills because the lids sag. It also doesn't work well with anything but Traeger pellets. Like I said, it makes great food, but I wish I would have gotten a Green Mountain.
That's funny you say that. I got a trager from neighbor. He had it for 2 years. Still in great shop. He gave me a discount. Because his work gave him a wood pellet camp chef. I don't think Traegers are bad qua.ity at all.
i hate to say this.. but i will take my Big green egg over any pellet grill.. 1. it uses wood and not propane 2. if you lose power you can still grill. 3. uses less fuel than propane or a pellet. 4. i can buy fuel almost anywhere..
Your average pellet grill will run in a deep cycle battery for days. If you have an issue with power outages I'm sure you have prepared for other sources of power. I have a kamado and love it but I just don't see why so many people wax poetic about the lack of electricity. Maybe I'm spoiled. I don't know that I've experienced a power outage in something like 5 years. Anyway if I'm going for extended periods of time with zero electric the last thing I'm doing is smoking meat lol. I can easily throw some hot coals in the kamado or a cheap kettle to get something cooked fast. And for fast cooks I prefer it over either unit.
The challenge with wood as your fuel is temperature control. You’ve got to babysit that egg for 12 hours while smoking a butt? With the pellet grill, you really can set it and forget it.
I just retired, too-jaja, anyway. I just bought my first Traeger 575 and hope it's as wonderful as its reputation. Wish me luck, and I hope I don't become the first cook to burn something on my new Traeger. Thanks.
Yoder has the indirect and direct cook for searing or even cooking across the barrel but it’s not cheap,YS 640 . It really nice. I never had any issues with my Traeger with temp fluxuations all over the place but I have a American made model before 2007.
in extreme cold they will be affected some. there are moving parts in the augers that will grind and creak on mine, but I have shoveled snow off if it and cooked.
Being in Alberta, if you can afford the extra couple hundred bucks get the ironwood 650 or 885. The ironwood line has built in double wall insulation. With the insulation and the new D2 motor they are rated to run as low as -40°.
I've had the smallest one they make for a couple of years now. It's great for cooking, in the small model it's cheaply made with skinny legs and thin metal. It still cooks like a boss. I've had a little trouble with the electronics shutting down in the wind, but other than that the little bugger is great. I'm going to upgrade to a better model eventually, and I would recommend getting a higher end model in the first place.
Traeger is not a top-of-the-line brand there just a wall advertised brand. There’s been a ton of bad reviews on Traeger products, especially their crappy Pellets they may have changed their pellets, because they had a class action lawsuit against them about the quality of their pellets. There’s better brands out there with more bang for your buck, especially on the gauge of steel. Traeger is notorious for using thinner steel to lower their production costs. Pit boss, and Traeger owner on the bottom of my list for potential purchases. Grilla grills have a bout the most bang for your buck with their silver back in the gauge of steel would embarrass trigger for producing such trash. I’ve run my silver back in 22° below zero temperatures for 16 hours straight to do a brisket and it operated flawlessly. Try that with the Traeger without blankets. They may have fixed some of their blanket problems by double jacketing the lower barrel and copying Grilla on a few of their models but they’re so far off the radar from past performances. It ain’t funny .Then there’s some other brands like smoking brothers, pits and spits, Lonestar Grillz just do your research you’ll get more bang for your buck and be a lot happier in the long run. I’m going on close to seven years with a Silverback. if I had to do it all over again I would probably buy a Lonestar maybe someday. Traeger has a huge fan base because they spent a crap ton of money on TV advertisements and such doesn’t make them grest.
Just picked one up today was on sale for $624 had a 10% off coupon for sportsman’s came out to $561 added the cover and drip bucket liners all out the door was $647 on top of all that I get a $50 gift card for July for spending over $200 that will be buying the shelf for this smoker
I just received my 780 Treager pellet grill as a Christmas gift to myself. I'm going to have to learn how to use this thing which I am excited about but my question to you is " so I shouldn't use my Treager when it's super cold or windy?". I live in Georgia so it's cold and windy right now.
I just became a pellet grill owner and I'm a big fan too. But one big con for me is all the sophisticated components that can and will break over time. Mainly this is the hot rod, the combustion fan motor, and the auger fan/motor. Yes, they are not difficult or expensive to replace if you are handy. But you will never have that issue with a charcoal grill or propane grill. However, the great taste and ease of use offsets this con.
I’ve had a Graeber for 4 years and it’s not been a reliable product. It CONTINUALLY gets LFT code and shuts off, especially if there are anay pellets left in the fire bowl. It really pisses me off when it goes out after 30-45 minutes bc it overfilled the pellet bowl and can burn it off. You are basically stuck bc you can’t clean out the bowl of unturned pellets if it’s hot so, you can fire up a reliable grill or put food on kitchen oven. When it works, it does well but for me it’s at best 60/40 good to bad and I hate it.
Can you sear a steak? 450 is on the light side to put a good, strong sear on a steak. What happens when the power goes out in the middle of a long cook? It would be a bummer to come back from your day on the slopes to a brisket that's only partially cooked. Have you looked at a Kamado style ceramic cooker?
Price for me was not a factor. Someone I knew upgraded their trager and asked if I wanted their pro 22. I should have cords and haven't looked back since. Another probe is cost of fuel. I'd rather pay for pellets then propane
Does it really provide enough smoke where you can really tell the food has been smoked. Which manufacturers pellets do you think provide the most the best flavor??
I was told by the Traeger reps at Costco to vacuum the ash after ever hopper of pellets. I’ve done this and always a lot of ashes. So, your saying every 10-20 uses? Really?
Just got mine today century 34 with bottom warmer. Two things. 1) why is my thermometer like and inch and half tall. All pics videos they look like they are 6-8 tall. 2) boy it loses heat fast. Is this typical?
Excellent video. I have a "Lil Tex 34" arriving in about a week so this video is a great tool to become familiar with the parts and installation of the smoker parts. Now that I have watched the video one time, I'll be watching it again throughout the week in order to reinforce what I have just finished watching.
Bought a 780 pro a month ago. It was a waste of 1000 dollars. 1st off these pellet cookers are not grills. Its a pellet oven. Max temp is 500 degrees and will not sear. They also label it as a smoker. The only smoke you get is the little at start up. Save yourself the money and stick with gas or get a weber.
Pellets can be had any where in Phoenix, Ace Hard ware carries Traeger but Lowe's, Walmart, and Home Depot carry pellets just not always Traeger. I go through a LOT of hickory, pellets. I have tried three brands and Traeger, the burn times and flavor is comparable. Save your self time and money get which is closest to your home.
This is s nice cooking machine. But, what is moisture being outside going to do to the electronics. How much is it going to cost to replace the computer or any of the motors. I do like this smoker but I will have to say, my Big Green Egg is still top of the line. NO drop chord or anything mechanical to wear out. JS Also, the BGE has a lifetime warranty on the ceramic.
hey i have the same traeger as you and i have an issue with my temp when i set it to 180 it gets to temp settles for like 5 minutes and then drops to like 160 and then goes back up to 190 and then 180 and drops again whats the reason for this and is this normal traeger said they have a plus or minus 25 degrees but mine just fluctuates up and down constantly
Does it have Wi-Fi? I so want to buy a chinese device and plug it into my wifi network so I (and them and anyone else) can have a point of entry into my home network.
You're not smoking with propane. I would rather use charcoal than propane. If anyone is using propane, then you may as well use your gas oven in your house or an electric oven.
Great video, thanks for the review! I have to say I like Traeger but since their patents opened up to the free world there are a lot just as good but at 1/2 the price. I personally own a Pitt-boss 820 and the comparable price is about half! I will not get into quality, they are I would say about identical. Mr Traeger who started the company now woks for Pitt-boss.
I forgot to mention, there is a plate you can pull back on the Pitt-Boss and open the food to the flame and actually sear! No other pellet stove that I know of has that!
I have not heard that. Interesting. Well, I guess i already own one, so at this point when my traeger calls it quits in 10-15 years, i'll explore other options. Happy grillin' thanks for the info!
The Louisiana Grills have the seat feature. When I’m done smoking something i want the grill marks on, I up the temp to 400-500, slide the cover over and plop the meat directly over the flame. It works well and no need to fire up a separate grill to get the seat.
Also anyone looking for advice on smoking weathe its pellet or stick fire. On facebook there is a group called smoking meat low and slow. There are 181k members so if you have questions there are always people to answer
agree with everything but 450 being enough to sear a steak. Not even close. But I wouldn't use a grill to sear a steak period. Cast iron skillet on a high output burner is the way to go.
OK, I was just informed by my wonderful wife that I'll be getting a Traeger for a combination birthday and Father's Day present. I ALMOST bought a grill at Costco in late February...just before the world changed. Yeah...that stuff. Now I'm doing some research and I found your video. THANK YOU! Very well done! I'm sold...merely need to pick out which model I want. I especially liked your comments about the lack of storage / shelf space with the "saw horse" base. QUESTION #1: Where did you get that shelf and are they made for all units sold? QUESTION #2: Have you looked at or used the wifi feature that I now see advertised? QUESTION #3 I don't think I need anything as big as what you have. I don't want a tiny grill however. Should I pay more attention to the controller than anything else (when comparing models)? Thanks!
I'm not as informed as i should be on the new models, but many have wifi. It was an option when i was looking, but i just saw it as something that i wouldn't use and another thing that could break or fail. It works great for some, just wasn't for me. The shelf is made by Traeger and i am sure there is a shelf made for all models, they have lots of aftermarket and customization options. They also make a lower shelf for storage. My model is no longer in production and the 34 has taken its place with the controller upgrade already in place. They make a smaller version is the pro 22. It has the pro controller with 2 probes and you can check the grill temp without lifting the lid. That is very important you will find out because you let all of the heat out every time you lift it. The bells and whistles are not my thing, nut they work well for others. Good luck on your search. Let me know what you decide on! Happy Grillin
The oringnal Traeger were American made thick heavy steel body and barrel.they stop making them in 2007.the oringal pellet box was round just like the main cooking chamber,it was a tank and heavy, they are very hard too find..but built too last for years and years.
Propane depending on where you live can be a hella lot cheaper per BTU than good BBQ / Smoker pellets, but aint as tasty IMO, I have a Rectec pellet smoker/BBQ out of Augusta Ga which is awesome. Which like the Traeger doesn't sear well at 450ish. Pellet smoker vs offset wood smoker vs komodo green "egg" smoker or is another story.
I have heard some good things about the rectec. I am happy with the traeger especially at the price. Pellets are more expensive than propane, but really if you are going for something that tastes good, what difference does it make?

You got it. I hope it is working out well for ya.
Ain’t nothin wrong with the Traeger,I love it.but I have a stick burner too,I love them both.
Does the stick burner give more wood flavor than the traeger? I have the traeger select and it doesn't seem to have a lot of smoke flavor, in fact very little, compared to my UDS.

Dude looks like Ed Bassmaster
Pssshhhhh unreal
I've had mine for 5 years. I haven't had any issues with it. I've been looking for a better one, but they are all about the same. As far as the wind affecting the temperature, I bought a oversized welding blanket heavy one, and set it over the smoker in the cold and windy Michigan days. It keeps the temperature within 5-10 degrees.
Good tip. Less expensive than the Traeger blankets.
Its funny Ive always used charcoal grills. Never liked propane. One of my family members bought the Treagor and we liked it so much they bought me one as a gift. I will never go back to charcoal unless im camping.
Adrian P Where can I get a blanket?
Adrian P can you tell me what size and what the brand name is of the welding blanket you bought please and what size Treager you have? we are having a hard time with the wind here.
forwaring for those of u who listen at high volume turn video down when he is about to vacuum u will thank me
John Wolff thank you
Just got mind in December of 18! I got to say my smoking and BBQ has gone to the next level overnight! You hit the nail on the head. Thanks
It takes an average griller and makes them a hero....myself included
How does it do just grilling hamburgers or steaks with no flame? Do you get a chargrilled flavor?
They will warranty it.....? It has a 3 year warranty
It's convenient, and I get spectacular results, but man three years on I'm kinda regretting not getting the green egg every time I have to go partially disassemble it to get it lit.
bummer. Which model do you have?
@@live.life.simple. Believe it is a Pro-Series 34-Inch. It's one with the gold grill cover, but black pellet cover. Likely 2017 manufacture date if there's different generations...
Thank you for the great video. It was really helpful as I was searching for a nice pellet grill.
How many pounds of pellets to cook steaks or burgers?
@@micheleolson9914 I have no idea to be honest. But a 20 lb bag lasts me a good while.
Why transition when you can have both!! I prefer propane for my fast cooks like a nice juicy steak! And my pit boss for smoking.
How is it in colder/winter months? That's my only concern; does the lower temperature throw off the cooking Temps in the grill? I get the heavier ironwood and timberline versions would remedy any issues, I'm just really curious how the pro serious does. The idea of smoking in the winter without having to babysit the food outside is what I'm here for
You should be a spokesman for the company You answered all my questions and more Thanks looking forward to my Traeger grill
Order the Traeger shelf. It’s super awesome. Buy one today!
Mine usually holds within 5 or less. It spends much of the time with 2 degrees
Thnx for the review. The edits are annoying.
Thanks for the input
I use the put boss competition or the Cabela's competition. They are both great pellets that produce a good blue smoke.
Great info. Thanks so much.

I like your Rocking Chair!
1st thing I noticed was that rocking chair.

I too got a renegade Pro awesome machine had some issues with it but they sent me the new parts with no problem pause for me to exchange them I asked him what will they do for me they sent me what I wanted I'm extra Shelf and a cover for it so don't be afraid to have them send you something for free if you're doing the work on it
1000 dollars ,we have this slang saying in Spanish. (1000 dolares me Los Paso por Los huevos ) . Meaning that amount is nothing to me
no comprende. 1000 is nothing?
Ceramic for the win💪💪
We purchased one for Christmas, combination grill/smoker. Foods are amazing! My husband really loves it! Can’t wait to try pizza 😍
You can cover your drip tray with heavy duty tinfoil and about every 3rd cook replace it....... If you're out of tin foil or don't have time to cover the drip tray its no problem scraping it off with a bent handled paint scraper.
sometimes i use a power washer as well.
I have not had to replace anything. The controller was just an upgrade and the old one worked fine.
I love too smell the smoke once it ignites, smells so damn good.
How do you compare to a Big Green Egg or Komodo Joe?
Just put my Traeger together today. Very informative video, thank you.
Glad you found it helpful. Happy Grillin'
i hate to say this.. but i will take my Big green egg over any pellet grill.. 1. it uses wood and not propane 2. if you lose power you can still grill. 3. uses less fuel than propane or a pellet. 4. i can buy fuel almost anywhere..
Other than fuel source, what are the advantages of the green egg?
I will try to measure the power useage on my next bout on the Traeger and see what it pulls.
The challenge with wood as your fuel is temperature control. You’ve got to babysit that egg for 12 hours while smoking a butt? With the pellet grill, you really can set it and forget it.
Yep. I agree. Less hassle overcomes many of the competitions so called benefits. There is little to no chance of burning something.
You're correct, the YS-640 is a beast that can smoke/grill/sear with the 2 piece diffuser open and grill grates
I'm seriously thinking about purchasing the 780 model... How do they operate in a winter climate? I'm up in Alberta.
in extreme cold they will be affected some. there are moving parts in the augers that will grind and creak on mine, but I have shoveled snow off if it and cooked.
Being in Alberta, if you can afford the extra couple hundred bucks get the ironwood 650 or 885. The ironwood line has built in double wall insulation. With the insulation and the new D2 motor they are rated to run as low as -40°.
For long smoke sessions why not
I just received my traeger yesterday and unpacked it and the leg whole was caved in and dents all over the back of the unit!
I got a traeger but it’s a older one,with no fancy controller,American made,the new ones are made in 🇨🇳 China,since 2007
Traeger is not a top-of-the-line brand there just a wall advertised brand.
Don't bother buying Traeger brand pellets, a Brand name competitors pellets are half the price or less.
What brand do you usually use?
But do they have the flavour and more important the same burn time?
Pit boss pit boss pit boss.. lol ok I'll stop now
Just picked one up today was on sale for $624 had a 10% off coupon for sportsman’s came out to $561 added the cover and drip bucket liners all out the door was $647 on top of all that I get a $50 gift card for July for spending over $200 that will be buying the shelf for this smoker
I just received my 780 Treager pellet grill as a Christmas gift to myself. I'm going to have to learn how to use this thing which I am excited about but my question to you is " so I shouldn't use my Treager when it's super cold or windy?". I live in Georgia so it's cold and windy right now.
Just nabbed one for $50 at a G Sale
Nice buy!
Thanks for the honest and very informative review, been thinking about buying a smoker, and it looks like Traeger's the way to go! 👌
Good choice!
Mmmm retired at 40… I see you’re wearing what appears to be a Paneri. Prolly a $5000-$10000 watch. Good review!
If you need Traeger in British Columbia go to Marysville Hot Tub‘s.They will hook you up
Pellets can be had any where in Phoenix, Ace Hard ware carries Traeger but Lowe's, Walmart, and Home Depot carry pellets just not always Traeger.
Have you had issues with it not smoking? If so how did you troubleshoot it? Ours doesn’t have a clean out door for the pellets. Thanks.
You're not smoking with propane. I would rather use charcoal than propane. If anyone is using propane, then you may as well use your gas oven in your house or an electric oven.
I never use propane. Ever. Always charcoal. How does this compare to charcoal grilling?
I’m not a propane grill user, but I have the say that propane doesn’t cost $25 at all
Great video, thanks for the review!
How much longer does it take to cook burgers and hot dogs versus a propane grill?
The oringnal Traeger were American made thick heavy steel body and barrel.they stop making them in 2007.the oringal pellet box was round just like the main cooking chamber,it was a tank and heavy, they are very hard too find..but built too last for years and years.
Good to know Tim. Mine still seems to be very good quality.
I think the timber line Sirius is made in America now. Had a cost of 1800 to $2,000. China makes the rest of them. Yoder is made in America.
I have overcooked on my Traeger and the meat still is delicous ,it’s almost impossible too fuck up your food.
How much did Tagger pay you for this BS. "Retired at 40 " 😀😀😀
Very helpful as I decide on buying a new grill. Wondering if Wi-Fi is important.
You can order them online from Traeger, See no problem. Also, tractor supply...which happens to be across the street from me :)
Why not have both? 4.5 gallons of propane only cost about $12 where I'm at. I think the treger pellet is a better value.
My company would like to contact you about show casing out Na11 everything rub! How would we get in contact?
Trager smokes propane all day long. I use the large trager smoker at my restaurant smoking brisket, pork shoulder, chicken, ribs etc.
Great content, but man -- those twitchy little cuts all throughout the video were annoying.
Hello I wanted to know if you could show how to put aluminium foil on drip tray to route into bucket?
Traeger is so over priced compared to what's on the market nowadays for pellet grills
