Honestly you didn’t use it right. You get a ton of smoky flavor if you cook it lower at first (just the smoke setting), and then higher when it reaches an internal temp of around 115 degrees. You’ll get extremely dark chicken with red coloring on the meat. It’s very juicy and it comes out flavorful. You have to give it time to smoke. My chicken takes a little over 4 hours and crispy darker skin. Also use better pellets. Signature blend is weak. Try hickory or cherry pellets
I just upgraded to that model and I love it. When you did this review you didn't say anything about the smoke flavor in the meat which is one of the biggest reasons to use it. The smoke flavor is totally there every time and I think people who were interested would want to know that
Yeah it seems like he is rating it as an overall utility grill, rather than just a smoker. I would think anybody who is going to spend 1k on a smoker has another cooker for just grilling.
Quality Pellets definitely matter for much more flavor, burns hotter and less ash build up for easier cleanup. Also you need to do a prep cook the meat at much lower temps to get more of the smoke flavor before the actual cooking. For steaks you need to smoke it in the traeger then finish it in cast iron on a gas grill to get the sear.
I agree with your opinions GWD. I never grill on my pellet grill. It only smokes. Everything else goes on the charcoal! If I won that grill ribs would be the first thing to go on! Got 2 racks in the freezer!
Love the new series idea! Been looking at a Traeger to add to the grill collection. I would try a beef Wellington for the holiday season if I won the grill!
Been a Traeger user for years and agree 100% with your review. Flavor is always great but I throw the cast iron in there for steaks. That said, mines getting pretty old and could use a nice, new, bigger one to smoke my next brisket.
Great thorough review! My current grill is great at searing and gets nice and hot, but has no smoke component, so sounds like this would be a good compliment. Brisket would likely be first up, although those ribs looked really good!
Great review! I cook 2 turkeys for Thanksgiving, love the idea that I could do one on the deck. With everything else going on that day, the set it & forget it with the probe would be an amazing feature!
This is so neat! Such a wholesome idea 🥹 I married into a Polish family and they LOVE smoked sausage and salmon so of course that’s the first thing I’d make ❤️ for my wife and in-laws, there’s a language barrier with my in-laws and food is how we best communicate :)
This is awesome. Love what you are doing here. This definitely helps us get a better understanding of grills before buying it. Like how you share the pros and cons. Thanks for the unbiased review. I would definitely do an overnight brisket with my curry infused brisket rub 😊
Great idea to do reviews of other grills. I’m a BGE guy all day, but often wondered if Traeger would have been a better option based on the connectivity, temperature control and use of pellets instead of charcoal. I’d take a free traeger, but definitely wouldn’t purchase one. Just a suggestion on the review in general, maybe consider rating the individual parts of each grill : setup, use, each food you cooked, etc. I think it’s tough to give an overall rating when there are parts that are better than the grill as a whole Looking forward to seeing more reviews. I’d be interested to see some Weber reviews and see how gas holds up in the mix
Very cool. I have two big green eggs at home, along with one at work. This would be a work smoker and I would make a brisket for the guys at the plumbing shop.
I just purchased my first Traeger and went straight to the 780. Doing my homework to get the smoke flavor you must drop the temp down to get the smoke flavor to your food. I believe you can get the grill and get crispy you just have to know how to use it for what you are doing
First thing I’m throwing on there is a tritip with the HC Black you put me on to at one of your Ace Hardware popups. Once I get my hands on a gator I’ll have to follow your recipe and give that a go as well.
Great review, always considered one to pair with the egg and blackstone for the ultimate outdoor kitchen. I’m cooking up some of my smoked wings, smoked queso and watching the Bears with this traeger
Love Traegers! Love the new features over my old Pro 34. Traeger gets a lot of heat for being so easy but honestly for so many people, Traeger has open the possibility of smoked meals that otherwise wouldn’t have ventured to buy or cook on a stick smoker. First meal would be smoke cream cheese and 3-2-1 ribs.
Love the content and no gimmick approach to your recipes and videos. Thank you! I would try smoking a brisket first. Tried it on my smoker a few weeks ago and came out very average. Would love a new smoker to perfect a great brisket!
I just found your channel the other day..and I love it..I love to grill..so did my dad...he passed on Christmas eve..so I am carrying on his tradition of grilling..his thing was t bones..I love ribeyes and ribs..so it will be one of those...each is great.
Our grill who was a hand-me-down from my father-in-law broke this summer. My husband is looking for a grill/smoker and this would be perfect! Definitely making ribs first, then smoking some pork loin and hams!
Great review! Thank you for sharing the ins and outs! I would love to try using this to make Thanksgiving Turkey, see if we can’t out do the traditional oven or roasting pan.
I’m rocking a busted DynaGlo grill and have been wanting to upgrade. Local to Chicago and would do a full Turkey from Kaufman Farms or pork belly bites!
Great review on the traeger! Love cooking on a pellet smoker. Thanks for all your info on food. If I won the traeger I would cook several chicken quarters. I love cooking for other people.
Northern Burbs guy here as well! I currently am using an electric smoker and looking to level up my game. I would definitely do the same as you and go with ribs first (baby back or spare). I would eventually move to brisket, but to really get a sense of the smoke flavor i would keep it simple first. Great idea reviewing grills!
Great review and aligns to how I use my pellet grill. The first thing I would cook on that traeger if I win would be a pork shoulder for pulled pork sandwiches.
I love that you’re doing this! Been cooking on a travel size GMG for 3 years and would love and upgrade! I would have to cook some pork belly burnt ends for the first cook and wash down with some eagle rare! Cheers!
my first grill purchase will be the 780 Bronze my dad has one and its the BEST! I have a Char Griller that I got after my graddad died. I'm so excited for my future with my dream grill!
I’m also a dad in the suburbs of Chicago. I love your content! I’ve tried smoking 2 briskets on my gas grill with a smoker box. The second turned out a little better than the first but neither were great. With this Traeger my first cook would be a Texas style smoked brisket and burnt ends and hopefully I’ll finally get it right!
Good stuff, love watching the video. You Turner me on to Hardcore Carnivore products and I love um... Had a treager for 5 years before mine broke... Time for a new one soon. Keep putting out the great content and makin polish people proud.
I'm in the Northwest Burbs as well. I've been very interested in learning the smoke different types of meats. Well with Thanksgiving right around the corner, I think I would do a smoked turkey! My buddy does it every year and it turned out so amazing!
I'm with you on grills. I have a pellet grill and like it for certain meats. Low and slow bbq but like the charcoal for high temp sear and that char flavor.
Great review! I would smoke only my second brisket ever. The first one was a request from my then pregnant wife in 2005(our first daughter). We lived in a 4 story townhouse, 5 blocks North of Wrigley on Kenmore. My wife decided she was pregnancy craving smoked brisket, seemed an odd choice, so it was off to Paulina Meat Market for a brisket. You have to understand, the 4th floor was storage and our rooftop deck. Where my 3 burner Weber Genesis GAS grill was located, looking over 4 sets of EL tracks and Graceland Cemetery. I got my recipe, my rub, removed a grill grate, wedged the brisket on the grill(it may have been hanging off a bit on one side) and started the cooking process. Quickly changing out foil packages of wet wood chips probably 3 to 4 times per hour on the flavor bars and following my recommended recipe for my size of brisket. This process went on for at least 13 or 14 hours, walking up 2 or 3 flights of stairs each time to check on the temperature, smoke and wood chips. Finally, it was done and as it rested, all I hoped for was a smoke ring. When the moment came, SUCCESS, smoke ring, somewhat juicy, but not too shabby for my first time and on a Weber Gas Grill. Now for the opportunity to meet the craving need of my pregnant wife. I think she ate like maybe a piece and a half and said and I quote, “it’s delicious. Nice job. I think I want something sweet.”🤯 2015 moved to Mokena and I’m a lump charcoal guy and my Weber 26 inch kettle grill. Based on your review about smoking meats on a Traeger grill, I’d definitely revisit 2005 on Kenmore Ave. and give a brisket another shot, as a reminder to my wife as well as relive that story with our 2 daughters. Heck! Maybe she can finish 2 pieces this time.
Really good review. Was not aware that the sear just isn’t there for the meat on the Traeger. Will definitely have to slow cook some pulled pork as I’ve only made them in the crockpot dozens of times.
Awesome idea for a non-bias review, truly your opinion from start to finish. I’d love to cook a pork butt for a first time use. Thnx and keep up the great content on both social media platforms!!
Love your channel! I have the Pitboss brand pellet grill (Laredo 1000). All Pitboss's have a sear plate in the middle, where you can expose the firebox and "grill" right on direct flames. I have been using it for over 1yr and its been fantastic.
I learned the hard way when spatchcocking chicken, to get it crispy skin, you need to dry thoroughly, coat lightly with oil, and your rub needs some salt.
I returned a Traeger 780 for the 34 pro. The new ones are too well controlled. No smoke flavor compared to the original. It’s the cooling and heating flux of the original that allows for smoke. I cooked a brisket, chicken breast, and burgers. My wife even noticed saying she misssed my old Traeger. That was it…. Went into my local ACE and told them all about it. Said I was the only person to complain ( I think not many go from old to new) I know how a Traeger should cook. They called the rep. And had a new 34pro delivered and they took that used hunk of metal back. I’ve cooked multiple hundreds of pounds on the 34 pro. Had to recently replace the heating rod. Lots of cheep aftermarket parts for the original. Stored outside year round no cover. Love it!!!!
I’m on my second Traeger and Maciek is right. Great, convenient smoker but you’ll have to light off the BBQ if you need something properly seared. Good luck to those in Chicagoland hoping to win this beauty-I’m too far away. You’ll love it.
Been thinking about a pellet and this helps a lot! First cook will be a toss up between ribs or your Dutch oven Italian beef recipe! It would be perfect for that.
The first thing I would grill would be would be a whole Turkey. Traeger has pellets and a brine specifically for them and they come out amazing. Ribs, pork shoulder, brisket, vegetables, I would use it for anything you can cook. I’m an hour outside of Chicago.
Awesome and very informative review! I’ve always heard these grills are great for smoking. First thing I would cook on this would be ribs! Always a crowd pleaser!!
Editing to change my answer. Probably a spatchcock turkey. I’m hosting thanksgiving this year for the first time ever. A spatchcock turkey looks like the way to go.
Hey man. I really enjoy your content and the info and recipes you give out. I would do a fast cook first, maybe a couple chickens. Then try a lower and slower cook. Maybe some ribs. Cook on my friend!!

I would think anybody who is going to spend 1k on a smoker has another cooker for just grilling.
I have the Pro 780 for over 3 years and Traeger Pellets do not give smoke flavor like other pellets. we use 780 almost everyday and no issues.
@@dabigeasybbqwhich pellets do you like to use for good smoke flavor?
@@bossstrick bear mountain (40 lb. bags) and jealous devil (20 lb. boxes) are the only pellets we use.
Gotta love that reverse sear!
You really don't. I smoke steaks for about an hour then crank it to 450 and sear them for 3-4 minutes per side and they're always perfect.
I agree with your opinions GWD. I never grill on my pellet grill. It only smokes. Everything else goes on the charcoal! If I won that grill ribs would be the first thing to go on! Got 2 racks in the freezer!
Try the Royal Oak Charcoal pellets. Best of both worlds
I would definitely cook a brisket on there. I’ve been looking at these grills for a while. Love the WiFi control! Thanks for your review!!
Good luck!
What a great idea for a series can't wait to see your opinion on all these grills.
Thanks
Love the new series idea! Been looking at a Traeger to add to the grill collection. I would try a beef Wellington for the holiday season if I won the grill!
Great idea!
I'm gonna go with pulled pork. I used to have a pit boss and pellets do those pretty well. I'm local. Maybe 20mins away.
Been a Traeger user for years and agree 100% with your review. Flavor is always great but I throw the cast iron in there for steaks. That said, mines getting pretty old and could use a nice, new, bigger one to smoke my next brisket.
Good luck
Great review! I go back and forth between my pellet and my off-set smoker, depending on what I'm cooking.
Great thorough review! My current grill is great at searing and gets nice and hot, but has no smoke component, so sounds like this would be a good compliment. Brisket would likely be first up, although those ribs looked really good!

Thanks brotha👊

Awesome! Thank you!
Fun series idea! I’ve been craving pork belly burnt ends. Probably first cook on the docket.
Nice

Very cool. I have two big green eggs at home, along with one at work. This would be a work smoker and I would make a brisket for the guys at the plumbing shop.
Sounds like you have a great set up!
Great content! My husband would for sure use this to make Tri-tip.
nice
Great video!! First thing would be ribs to warm it up. Then I’ll go for a brisket. I love my drums, but always wanted to get a Traeger.
Good choice
Great video! A brisket is the first thing I would try on this grill.

good choice
Enjoy the content. Learned quite a bit from you channel and Instagram. Would have to try brisket and ribs. Need to get another smoker in the stable.
both are great choices
Thanks for your honest review. I cook a ton of ribs for family. Low and slow is the only way. Thanks again
Thanks
I’m in NW burbs too. Big fan of your videos. Thanks for sharing. I’d like to see how it handles a brisket or pork shoulder.
Thanks for the support
Always thought about getting a pellet grill. First thing I’d cook is a brisket.
Awesome
Hello from Michigan! Love your channel! I would do spatchcock chicken steak and ribs😉
yum
I'm in the Northwest Burbs as well. Would love to cook a brisket on it!
Good Luck
Definitely would have to go with a nice 14-16 pound brisket Texas style! A nice 16-18 hour cook!
That's a nice choice!
With it being fall in Chicago and Halloween; I think I'd cook some chili - > use a crock pot and set it and leave it.
Yum
First thing I’m throwing on there is a tritip with the HC Black you put me on to at one of your Ace Hardware popups. Once I get my hands on a gator I’ll have to follow your recipe and give that a go as well.

This is awesome! Thanks for doing this! The first thing I would cook on this is ballet slippers, no wait brisket 😅
😂 Good luck
Great review, always considered one to pair with the egg and blackstone for the ultimate outdoor kitchen. I’m cooking up some of my smoked wings, smoked queso and watching the Bears with this traeger
Great review!! I have been looking to upgrade from typical Weber gas grill cooking. On this grill I would try cooking large bone in beef ribs
Good choice!
Not in the Chicago Area! But I loved this review! Exactly the input I needed now that I’m looking for a Smoker/grill next spring.
Thank you
Definately doing some tri-tip steaks for main course and jalepeno cream corn as a side. Love the channel amigo.
Yes!!
Hey Dad, first thing I’d make would be to try to recreate the chicken you hooked me up with at Windy City Smokeout this year!
Nice!
Love Traegers! Love the new features over my old Pro 34. Traeger gets a lot of heat for being so easy but honestly for so many people, Traeger has open the possibility of smoked meals that otherwise wouldn’t have ventured to buy or cook on a stick smoker. Ty..
Pork belly burnt ends is a must! Great video, thank you for the insight and the review on the grill
Nice
Our grill who was a hand-me-down from my father-in-law broke this summer. My husband is looking for a grill/smoker and this would be perfect! Definitely making ribs first, then smoking some pork loin and hams!
Sounds delicious!
Great, thorough video! Big fan. First cook on this baby would be some nice thick beef ribs!
Thanks and good luck
Great review! Thank you for sharing the ins and outs! I would love to try using this to make Thanksgiving Turkey, see if we can’t out do the traditional oven or roasting pan.
Good luck
I’m rocking a busted DynaGlo grill and have been wanting to upgrade. Local to Chicago and would do a full Turkey from Kaufman Farms or pork belly bites!
Good luck
Nice review GWD! Definitely would be doing pork belly to kick off the new grill!
Thanks and good luck
Great review on the traeger! Love cooking on a pellet smoker. Thanks for all your info on food. If I won the traeger I would cook several chicken quarters. I love cooking for other people.
Thanks and good luck
One of your recipes for RIBS! I can’t fit a whole slab on my tiny Weber 🤞🏼
Great choice!
Ribs all day! Good to know the issues with smoking be grilling with this one. I have thought about it for a while.
nice
I would finally try a brisket. Using a PK Original and just not big enough for a Brisket cook. Love the channel and instagram. Keep it up!
Thanks for the support and good luck
Northern Burbs guy here as well! I currently am using an electric smoker and looking to level up my game. I would definitely do the same as you and go with ribs first (baby back or spare). I would eventually move to brisket, but to really get a sense of the smoke flavor i would keep it simple first. Great idea reviewing grills!
Sounds great!
Great review! Would love to upgrade my current smoker. First thing I would cook would be some game day classics: pulled pork and some wings!
Good choice!
Great review and aligns to how I use my pellet grill. The first thing I would cook on that traeger if I win would be a pork shoulder for pulled pork sandwiches.
Good choice!
I love that you’re doing this! Been cooking on a travel size GMG for 3 years and would love and upgrade! I would have to cook some pork belly burnt ends for the first cook and wash down with some eagle rare! Cheers!
Sounds like a good time!
Great idea giving back. I’d either go with some baby backs or a shoulder. Hell, maybe a Turkey for Thanksgiving this year.
Thanks and good luck
Great review. I would definitely start off with some Arrachera.
Good luck!
my first grill purchase will be the 780 Bronze my dad has one and its the BEST! I have a Char Griller that I got after my graddad died. I'm so excited for my future with my dream grill!
Awesome review. Would love it if when you are done with all of the reviews, you do one video to summarize your overall rankings.
Great idea!
Good luck!
Great review. I would definitely start off with some chuck roast burnt ends.
Sounds good
This is so cool! I would do pork shoulder and cook it for the block!
That's awesome!
Good stuff, love watching the video. You Turner me on to Hardcore Carnivore products and I love um... Had a treager for 5 years before mine broke... Time for a new one soon. Keep putting out the great content and makin polish people proud.

I'm with you on grills. I have a pellet grill and like it for certain meats. Low and slow bbq but like the charcoal for high temp sear and that char flavor.
Nice
Great review!
Great review. Agree that it is only a low and slow grill and not good for the high seared recipes. I would do a brisket first.
good luck
Great review! Think we’d do pork burnt ends or boneless pork loin on the Traeger.
Sounds great!
It’s getting to be smoked meatloaf weather here in Chicago. I’d probably do that first with the traeger.
Yes!!
Great video! First Grill would Definitely be that new smoked Pork shoulder/butt Salsa verde Tacos!
Sounds good!
Nice good luck!
Love the review. The very first thing I would cook on the Traeger is some whole trout!
Thats awesome!
Really good review. Was not aware that the sear just isn’t there for the meat on the Traeger. Will definitely have to slow cook some pulled pork as I’ve only made them in the crockpot dozens of times.
Thanks!
Awesome idea for a non-bias review, truly your opinion from start to finish.
I’d love to cook a pork butt for a first time use.
Thnx and keep up the great content on both social media platforms!!
Thanks for the support and good luck!
Love your videos. My husband is the cook in our home and the first thing I’ll have him make on the new grill is salmon!
Thanks for the support
There is a wedge shaped part of the packaging that is shaped so you can lay the grill down softly into it during assembly
Great video! I would definitely go for some smoked salmon recipe or try some other sea food.
Sounds delicious!
I would love this grill. You got me into grilling and I love it. I would probably do ribs first, so tasty. I live in central Illinois off I-88. Thanks
That's awesome! Stay tuned
Love your channel! I have the Pitboss brand pellet grill (Laredo 1000). All Pitboss's have a sear plate in the middle, where you can expose the firebox and "grill" right on direct flames. I have been using it for over 1yr and its been fantastic.
Thanks for the support! I might have to do a review on that grill!
Great review! I live in Virginia so I don't qualify for the giveaway. I would like to see you review the PK360 grill. It grills and smokes.
thanks for watching. Stay tuned, hopefully I can figure out a way to get these giveaways outside of the chicagoland area in future reviews
Been looking at a Traeger for sometime now!! Brisket would be my first cook
Good choice!
Love your videos! I need it in timer for Thanksgiving Turkey!!!!
Good luck!
Awesome! I would have to go with brisket for my first cook!
Nice
This is awesome! Down here in South Carolina I only wanna put one thing on a new grill -- nothing but a brisket for a long smoke 🤙🤙👌
Good choice!
Great review 👍🏻 I would start with your version of lamb gyros, they looked awesome but I haven’t had a chance to try them yet
Good choice!
I learned the hard way when spatchcocking chicken, to get it crispy skin, you need to dry thoroughly, coat lightly with oil, and your rub needs some salt.
I have been thinking about experimenting smoking some wings and messing w sauces for forever but haven’t got around to buying a smoker
Now's your chance. Good Luck
I’m on my second Traeger and Maciek is right. Great, convenient smoker but you’ll have to light off the BBQ if you need something properly seared. Good luck to those in Chicagoland hoping to win this beauty-I’m too far away. You’ll love it.
Right on
I would have to say my first cook would have to be poor man's brisket aka smoked chuck roast. It's an absolute must for anyone to try.
That's such a great cook!
Great review! Like the format. I think reviewing a PK grill would be a good idea.
Coming soon
Just introduced to your videos and Instagram. Great stuff. First thing on this a nice tri-tip.
Thanks for the support! Good luck!
Love it! We'd definitely be doing ribs first on that bad boy. My husband has an obsession with BBQ. Great review. Thanks for the honesty.
Thanks for watching!
Nice review! I’d have to try those ribs for my first cook, looked great.
Great choice
Fantastic review! I want to make a beef tenderloin on this
Thanks! Good luck
Been thinking about a pellet and this helps a lot! First cook will be a toss up between ribs or your Dutch oven Italian beef recipe! It would be perfect for that.
Oh yeah!
The first thing I would grill would be would be a whole Turkey. Traeger has pellets and a brine specifically for them and they come out amazing. Ribs, pork shoulder, brisket, vegetables, I would use it for anything you can cook. I’m an hour outside of Chicago.
nice
Awesome and very informative review! I’ve always heard these grills are great for smoking. First thing I would cook on this would be ribs! Always a crowd pleaser!!
It sure is
Would love to cook a rib roast on that beaut. Been watching your stuff for awhile from Yorkville!
Thanks for the support. Good luck
Editing to change my answer. Probably a spatchcock turkey. I’m hosting thanksgiving this year for the first time ever. A spatchcock turkey looks like the way to go.
Great Thanksgiving choice
Hey man. I really enjoy your content and the info and recipes you give out.
I would do a fast cook first, maybe a couple chickens. Then try a lower and slower cook. Maybe some ribs.
Cook on my friend!!
Thanks for the support and good luck!
