Excellent review. First time seeing any of your videos. Definitely won’t be the last. I just got this BBQ for an anniversary/Father’s Day gift and I couldn’t be more excited to cook with it.
Just bought the 780 last night your review is awsome.
One of the best reviews ever. I enjoyed it and it was exceptionally informative.
Great review .. just bought my 780 and cant wait to start using it..
Just picked up my 780 today. Putting it together tomorrow and breaking it in. Saw your video yesterday and so glad you did a review. Makes me happy to know I picked a good smoker. I do think the front shelf at least should be included for the 1000 i just spent but whatever. Keep the smokes coming and looking forward to new videos.
Awesome Review brother! I’ve got a Pro 22 and wanted some more grill space, so I Just purchased my Pro780, can’t wait to get cooking!!
My pro 780 comes in tomorrow. Can't wait. ... awesome review. Subscribed
thanks for the review im looking at upgrading from my pro 22 works fine but its just time to upgrade, looking at the Ironwood 880. but the 780 looks great too
Just purchased this grills these review reassured me can’t wait to use it
Good choice!
Another great review. Lots of people are saying that Treager has stepped up their quality. But you have really stepped up the quality of your videos over the years. Great job Sandy.
Thanks so much for this comment. I truly appreciate that!
Fantastic review. I bought one of these today. Retiring my OK Joe stick burner. How highly you speak of your experience with the 780 makes me feel better about the purchase already.
Just got my 780 brother you gave a great review.
Thank you for the review. My husband got this for me for Christmas 😍. I’m a happy griller!
Congrats Tricia!
Just got one for my birthday. Thanks for the information...
Great review. I really enjoyed it. Thinking about getting one myself.
Thanks for the review! Helped me decide to get this smoker. Looking forward to your other videos!
Thanks for the comment Steven. Looking forward to seeing what you cook!
Just pulled the trigger on this grill. Found a site online out of Louisiana with free shipping and $100 off, packaged with the cover and shelf. Out the door for $1045 before tax. Thanks for the great review.
890 views is a damn shame. Get this man a 4k cam plus a mic and it will be 20k. Solid review. very informative
Great honest review. Thanks brother! Keep smokin'
Very nice review. Keep up the great work!
14:50 Priceless!
Magic!😉 Treager didn't think about that 🤣
Excellent review. Definitely going to this.
Great review just brought mine today and I’m excited to put it together an get it going. Ps favorite part of the review was him going off about the pellet bag and hooper size. I agree 😡😡
Sandy, you are good at doing reviews. Very thorough and detailed with the mostly good, as well as the small amounts of bad. I don't have a pellet smoker (yet) but you helped give me some more great facts to chew on. This upgrade seems to have many good improvements. I'd rather have SS grates too, but I tell ya the porcelain enamel coated stuff is tuff and can withstan high temps. I've got one I use to burn charcoal on and gets very hot but after washing it off it is good as new. Thanks for the great review.
Phil thanks so much for the comment and your time. Great point about the grates. If I can help with anything let me know. Keep smokin Phil......it's gonna be a hot summer in the south brother!
Now im excited for that 780 tomorrow!
I pick up a 780 today, after my pitboss let me down this is going to be a great smoker for doing turkeys vs the pitboss which was a bit short on hight looking forward to cooking Christmas dinner on the new Treager 780.
Great video! Very detailed, you answered my questions, Thank you!
@3:36 is when math crushes the brain! I would of done the same thing! Great video and thanks.
You hit the nail on the head with the 18 lb hopper
Great review man. I think this might put me over the edge on the 780.
Awesome review. On Point. Great Job!
Thanks for the video. I’m thinking of buying the Pro 575 for Father’s Day because their on $100 off regular price
Your review just about convinced me. Great info!
Thanks Carlos! Let me know what you decide to do.
Great video, thanks for the honesty
Nice review I ordered the 575 pro with bronze lid should be in next week can’t wait
I got a pro 575 as well. What u like and don't about it ?
This was a honest review. Keep them coming
That's my goal Guy! I appreciate that, and glad to have you.
Just picked up my 780 yesterday. Gonna season it tonight and cook ribs or tri-tip tomorrow. I bought mine after seeing your reviews. Thanks for the info. Cheers 🍻
Congratulations Eddie! Let me know what you cook on it. Cheers!
Jus' Piddlin BBQ ....I started off with the 3-2-1 ribs. I was pretty impressed with how they came out. I used the hickory pellets.
@@eddiev2o9 I like the hickory pellets mixed with cherry pellets. That is my favorite combo to cook with.
Excellent review! Thank you!
Love the review. Picked up mine today. Cooked a whole chicken (5 lb) - better than the rotisserie at the store. Family was amazed
I’m very tempted to buy this model.. just a few days I was thinking of buying the 34pro series..
Superb, informative and honest review 👍🏻
Thanks a ton
Nice review! Lots of nice features!
Just purchased my first Traeger grill today. The same model to be exact.
Right on!
I bought the smaller size one, the 575. Im anxious to use it. Im kinda new to smoking.
Great review, very informative.
Great video, been enjoying your channel as a new enthusiast. Been a couple weeks with IRONWOOD 885 (D2 controller)... holds temp great, app is amazing, wifi connection is great, very glad I picked up a Treager (first smoke was 5 racks of ribs, 2 tri tips, 12 chicken legs).
Eddie that is awesome, and wow what a great first cook! Smoke on man!
Great Review! Very detailed.
Sandy this a great review, very thorough and honest! The new 2019 models are awesome with the new controller. I agree the grates should be stainless. I’m going to have to look at getting a jus’ piddlin sticker for my ironwood and a jus’ traegerin sign.
Awesome Jace! Let me know and I'll get em out to ya!
Jace Mills How are you liking the super smoke feature on your ironwood ?
Oh yeah, 20 lb hopper too but also wish I had SS grates ha
This was a great review!
I know nothing about grills. This made me want to buy this and grill every day
Seriously considering this smoker (I do not consider this to be a grill). Thanks for the review.
Great video
I have been waiting for your thoughts on this grill ever since your 1st video showcasing it. On that video I commented that I also have the same grill and could not be happier. I also have a GMG which I enjoy as well. I currently have some St. Louis ribs cooking on the 780 now here in sunny northern California. I laughed about the 18lb hopper! That's what's awesome about watching videos because I never thought about that.. the bad thing is now I can't stop thinking about it and I'm annoyed as well haha!
Sorry Chris LOLOL!
I'm building a hopper extension for my 780 that will take mine over the 20lb. mark powder coated and all to match :)
Best review yet! Thx
Really appreciate this video
Hello Sir, Great Review. I would like to know more about the pellet sensor that tells you when your running low? I'm having a hard time trying to find that part that you mentioned
Your welcome for stopping by
very well done vide... Sweetthing! i like it.
View informative review. I have a Yoder YS640 (The GOAT😉) and think the Timberline is what drove Yoder to upgrade their controller to a WiFi version including FireBoard control and cloud service.
Yoder is the G.O.A.T.!!
Apex Brewer love my 640 also, but all major brand pellet grills on the market today are fantastic and do a great job!
It just comes down to your budget and whether you have a certain loyalty to a brand.
Traeger, Yoder or GMG for example are all excellent grills for the money.
Yoders rust had 2 . Don’t pay good money for rust
Great review. How's the actual smoke taste when using it as a smoker? Thx
I like the thought of a 20# pellet hopper, but why not 22# ? Most people will not let the hopper run out completely or empty extra pellets out to switch pellets , so it will always have extra pellets left. 22#’s will give ya the extra room. Excellent review!👍
Hi your video is very helpful but is there a selection for "smoking" only before desire temp?
Awesome video, does this girl come with the super smoke option you may have said it I just missed that?
i would recommend a 22 lb. hopper so you can fill it with a full bag when it get low, before it completely runs out
God Damn I am buying this smoker now
Good video, Sandy! I love your honesty. That's why I sub'd. 😉
I like that Traeger is stepping up their game. At that price point, Traeger needs to include the front folding tray as standard equipment along with a bottom shelf. Also, the heat deflector should be of better quality, as it looks a bit flimsy. I agree with you on the hopper capacity should be 20. Just my two cents.
Going to watch your Grilla Chimp video now. Thanks for sharing.
👍🏻 👍🏻 🔥🔥
I agree about the heat shield. I'm sure their engineers have a reason for it, but I would rather have a more sturdy heat deflector........
Very well done review and very honest. I like how you gave the good and the bad in your opinion. I do have an answer regarding the hopper size. There is no reason why anyone should have a 20lb hopper. You will never go through all 20lbs in one cook. Unless your using it every day the hopper should be emptied and pellets stored correctly. When moisture gets in the hopper the pellets tend to go bad. Some people don’t know this and after a few weeks and some rain they turn the grill on & next thing you know the auger locks up because the pellets turn to sand once heated going through the auger. Then you need to take entire grill apart to clean it out and it’s a pain. Always store unused pellets after a cook in a sealed container to keep them optimal.
I appreciate the comment Nozzy. I do actually use my pellet grills on most days at some point. I go thru about 2 - 3 bags a week. Now I have an XL, so it isn't an issue anymore with a 42lb hopper LOL. Cheers!
in the event of an auger jam the 780 will run backwards and clear its self ! no need to tare it apart .but yes store them properly .
you made me laugh about the 18lb hopper, when you get that fixed, work on that square pizza box for a round pizza. Great vid
Is there a specific increment you can increase/decrease the temperature? Or can you set it at any random temp?
What is your shelf you have on the front? Model number and where do you purchase it? BTW great review Thanks
Which one do you prefer Treager or Silverbac
Thanks man
How well does it hold a temp? I have a different brand and the temp will fluctuate 15 degrees or so and only sets at 25 degree changes.
I thought the tabs on the back were for the power cable.
Curious as to whether or not you have noticed a difference in the food between the Traeger and the Silverbac?
Well said sir!
what about the noice of the grill at lets say 6,5 feet. can you relaxed socialize or is it to close to the table? i want to buy one but that keeps me busy? thanks for sharing this vid
Can the bottom cooking grilled be moved up?
Do you have to prime the Auger with every cook?
For the record I think it’s better that you used it a few times before reviewing. Gives it more validity.
I don’t hardly get any smoke out of mine even at low temp, can you help?
I am so frustrated with my Traeger not staying connected to WiFi, I have a strong mesh system to boost my signal so I know it has nothing to do with that, I have it for 2 years now and it continues to not be able to link up to my phone, Sad to say I am glad there are so many more companies out there making pellet grills as I will never buy another from Traeger.
Grilla gills has a 20lbs hopper and thicker steel. Other than that great grill.
One of the best reviews I've seen for ANY traeger. Does this model have super smoke and how does the wifire do after you've used it a while? Does it lose signal often?
No super smoke, but the wifire works great from the back corner of my backyard.
Great review Sandy! What are your thoughts on the build quality of the burn pot and heat deflector? The deflector seems very thin imo. Cool looking stickers by the way.
Thanks Bill. Only issue with build quality that I have is heat deflector, lid catch, and the 18lb hopper design. I forgot to mention the deflector, but I think it should be more sturdy, but it does what the name implies, so we will see how it lasts.
Have you had good experience with WiFi and app communicating with eachother
20 lb pellet bag but 18lb hopper is a great point but maybe traeger assumes the other 2lb's of pellets would be in the auger?? Idk maybe I'm wrong.
I’m guessing it’s for priming and some spilled
Hey there! First time watching your videos. I already subs, too. Just purchased a Traeger 780 yesterday. Where can I get the orange lettering like you've got, to name my grill?
18 pound hopper...20 pound bag of pellets? PREACH brother! You are talking to me right now. Solid review. Nice job!
I believe the ironwood has 20lb hoppers, but why they didn’t just make pro with 20lb is unknown
Did you get rid of the Gorilla grill? I was thinking about getting the Silverback Pro, but now I might be changing my mind to a Traeger.
What would happen if you put all 20 pounds in the hopper?
Great video, thank you.... Does it come with temp probes ?
It does.
The 18lb capacity is a good idea. It leaves you with a 2lb reserve if you aren't paying attention to a long cook and run out. After you cook just put the 2lbs in the hoper. That's just my thought.
Put all 20lbs in and you don't run out. 20lb hopper should equal a 20lb bag. I love the 780....but I prefer the 20lb hopper that my GG Silverbac has.
I just got one of these today. Haven't had the chance to try it yet. I also like the fact that its taller than the Pro 22,Pro34. I could probably do a turkey in this grill. Or Beer Can chicken where maybe the before mentioned ones may not be tall enough to do that.
Congratulations!!
@@JusPiddlinBBQ Ran across this channel and realize I didn't update. So far I like the grill very much. I found out unfortunately how durable it is when 2 times the wind took it and tipped it over(I was leaving it outside, now I roll it in the shed when I'm done with it. Chicken turns out phenomenal in this thing. Burgers and brats(I'm from Wisconsin LOL) also work well. I did the thanksgiving turkey in it as well. The Turkey was about a 17 pound one and it took about 4 hours at 350 degrees. I used the Traeger pellets and brine kit. Everyone love it. Ham works well too but that took a little longer than doing it in a regular oven. I do agree with you why didn't they just go ahead and use a 20 pound hopper? They do in the Ironwood and Timberline ones. Sometimes the Wifire is a little stubborn about wanting to connect but I can get it to do it.
You can put the extra 2 pounds of pellets in a smoker tube, and add extra flavour and smoke in the chamber. That's what i do with the extra pellets that don't fit in the hopper! :-)
Where do you place the tube?
@@bobbymalick9684back, right corner of the chamber. Open side towards center of the grill
Under the drip pan?
@@bobbymalick9684 no no. On the main grill. The air flow from below will help the smoke to saturate the chamber. It works great.
Thank you I’ll give that a try
Thinking of getting one of these to replace my masterbuilt smoker. Would this replace my grill too or should I keep my grill? Was thinking of getting rid of my grill also
If you are a guy that loves sear marks, then I would keep your other grill. Personally I think the marks are overrated. But it will cook most anything, however I rarely cook anything over 300 degrees on any of my pellet grills.
Nice review. Considering buying one. Can I ask, how long (on average) does a full hopper of wood pellets last?
Obviously it depends on ambient temps., cooking temps., etc...but I usually estimate about an hour of cook time per pound of pellets. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.
