    2:48 = golden advice. I preach this to all new staff. Do it when YOU are ready. Everyone's journey is different. Do not get pressured by what you see around you. If you are not fully invested like she stated, you will have a hard time being disciplined as it is not your true priority. Great advice, Stephie.
    The goal is to be successful. The CPA is a great way to get there, but it is certainly not the only way. Figure out what YOU want, then plan your attack.

    I used the Wiley CPA paperback review books. At the time they were about 30-40 bucks (2010 CPA). If you are a good test taker and can learn on your own, this is enough. On the other hand, if you need more guidance and can afford Becker, than do that. Everyone is different and have different strengths n weaknesses. Best of luck to everyone.

    I finished my masters degree in accounting about 8 months ago from a fairly small local college. Took me about seven years because I was working and only felt like taking one class at a time. And very few of my classes from my math bachelors degree transferred. I took a break for about 4 months after my masters and then started studying some old Wiley books. Sure is a lot to have to memorize. I've only gone through the BEC section so far and it's tough. I'm lucky to get half the questions right. When I go through the rest of the sections and feel confident enough to get serious I'll probably get one of those Rogers or Becker packages. But I sure don't want to work for the Big 4. I want to have a life outside of work. I'm already 40 years old so I'll probably be an old man by the time I get my CPA, but as long as I don't starve or have bill collectors after me, I'm good.

    • @kensmith2796
      @kensmith2796 2 года назад

      I'm in my 40s and just finished my MAcc. I'm starting on the CPA exams and there is a lot of material to have to memorize. I'm wondering about the effectiveness of you studying old Wiley books? Hopefully, you aren't wasting your time by studying old material. Maybe someone here can advise whether the material changes that much. But you should probably get a review course and use one of those to pass. Most firms I know of will pay for the review course of your choice. Good luck and don't worry, you won't be the oldest person working towards the CPA.

I am currently enrolled in a business school majoring accounting and I plan to get some internships (with coop) during my bachelor and once I graduate my bachelor degree, I am willing to get directly to the CPA program (2 years) that my university offers. Is it a good idea studying for my cpa exams BEFORE staring my career? Because I feel like it will be "easier" to get in BIG 4 accounting firms with my cpa licence.

    i am preparing for FAR. I consider myself fortunate enough to get "study leave" although there are days I have to be present and deal with urgent shit. I am so stressed out that i had to reschedule the exam for 3 extra days so i can get some time to revise. Its been almost 7 years that i finished my college and other professional course. So getting back to study and that too when you are holding a senior position in a big 4, with an international job offer kicking off in 6 months. It does gets overwhelming. I want to be done with these exams as it has been my life long, and i dont exaggerate when i say "life long", indeed it has been a life long dream (about 10 years now) to get to the other side. I have come so far, cleared BEC with an 80, but still got so much further to be by the end of the year. I am trying my best to consume the knowledge as much as i can to the best of my abilities. Please wish me luck so i can pull off FAR and get confident about the rest.

    Note cards, note cards, note cards.
    Tip: Don't buy the ready-made flashcards. Make your own, and bring one set with you every single day. My own note cards (I made one bundle for each section of the exam) consisted of: formulas, definitions, concepts, etc. Every free chance you get, run note cards. Ask others to quiz you whenever possible.
    I failed the entire examination once (we had to take all 4 sections in two days back then), employed this strategy, then passed three sections the next attempt, with scores in the mid-to-high 80s, finishing the last part on the next attempt (also scored in the 80s).

    The more I think about my future, the more I wonder why I’m so hesitant to plan for the exam in the future. I’m so blessed to be in the position to graduate next year. I almost dropped out of college after failing my engineering courses (I originally started uni for chemical engineering but I recently switched major to accounting). Those courses I attempted and passed these past two years make me well above 150 units after I graduate. I feel somewhat called to at least try. It’s better to try now rather than later. Just a quick question that If we do CPA from Texas or any other state in the USA then can it be globally accepted or it just limited to that particular state where we have been registered.
    Can we apply for job in other states too?
    Please do answer

    I will be going starting school in 3 months to earn a BS in Accounting. This is will be my second bachelors degree and all 144 credits from my last degree have transferred to my new school. I only have 57 credits to graduate and it’s all accounting, finance, and business classes. I’m wondering if I could take the CPA exam after graduating since I will graduate with 201 credits? Or should I also go for the MS degree?

      When I was in your situation my college advisor said the masters would take just a few classes more than the bachelors, so it would be a good idea to get that. I'm glad I listened. Now I'm going for the CPA, but it's going to take me a while. Lot of stuff to have to remember.

I am starting my junior year in the fall and have been offered a student ambassador position with one of the review programs so I will get one section for free. I haven’t taken any upper level acct classes so I am wondering if it’s too early to start studying?

    • @WithStephie

      I do think if you're still in college and not taking a specific CPA prep class, don't stress about studying yet. You're gaining really good knowledge as it is. Focus on your current studies because they will help build a strong foundation for when you do start studying for the CPA.
      I personally suggest hardcore studying for the exam when you've already applied, are accepted and have a notice to schedule. Of course you can read things if you want but most studying software has a time limit - I forgot what Becker was, like 2 or 3 years from the start of using it - before it expires and you pay more. Plus you'll definitely be cramming when you are taking the exam so enjoy a little bit of a downtime while you can 😊 I wish I had when I was still in college! It flies by 💗

      I personally applied for public accounting internships starting my junior year at university. Technically you can apply for internships at any point in your college career. However I don't see Big 4 firms typically recruiting from community colleges (I went to community college too) but you could possibly get one with a company which would be great experience. I highly recommend checking your college's job fairs or career advisors.

    I just took Audit today and it was brutal. It was my 2nd time taking. To be honest, I don't think I passed but who knows, I have to wait for results. I don't think anyone is ever ready for these exams you just have to give it your best shot. There's so much information that's why. Anyways, did you find Becker to be very effective as far as preparing you well for the exam? Im using Wiley and im trying to figure out if Becker is better.

    • @WithStephie
      @WithStephie  3 года назад

      That's awesome! I suggest checking your state board of public accountancy and see if you are eligible to take the exam. There is typically a credit hour requirement, for example in Texas it's 150 credit hours with business communication, ethics, upper level accounting classes as part of them. If you don't have sufficient credits, I suggest either taking undergrad classes at an accredited university/ community college. Just make sure your state board will accept credits from them.
      That's the first step! Then once you are eligible, you'll need to apply for the exam, pass it, and get appropriate work experience (per the state board). Hope this helps!

    02:46 As a CPA, this is pretty bad advice. There is an 18 month timer that starts when you pass an exam. If you don't get all the exams done within the time, you have to repeat the exams that fell off. If you start with the easiest, this means you have a pretty small window to pass the hard ones. FAR kicking your butt? Well, what better way to make it really beat you down by also giving you a clock for it and the other two exams. Also, remember you can only take a test once a quarter, so you have 5-6 shots at ONE exam where before you had infinite. With your strategy, it's very easy to get in a cycle where you never get your CPA because exams keep rolling off and you are always playing catch-up.
    The better strategy is to take the hardest one (usually FAR or REG) until you pass it, then do all three sequentially. If you can pass at least one of those other three, you will likely get your CPA without much issue. You need to plan around the clock, and I think that's why your advice isn't very good.
