I think the moment at 8:40 is the most beautiful moment I've ever heard in jazz. The buildup throughout the whole solo, and then it all cuts off for a moment, and then starts building back towards the melody. And then as if it could get any better, Pat jumps in.
I’m a bit late to this, but how are you able to pick apart drop 2 voicings by ear? I know what they are, and I have a good enough ear to hear changes and transcribe solos, but how do you identify voicings by ear? What do you listen for? Love this recording by Emmet Patrick Russel and Kyle
:: It doesn't get any better than that!!!! Emmet, Russell, Kyle and Patrick may be standing on other giant jazz masters, but we can clearly say they own their craft as well!! Cheers from Montreal. Can't wait to see you guys live soon!!! ::
Just hand clapping good!!! Loved the piano solo - I was just listening to the Dexter Gordon rendition of this song and I think the musicians on that recording would be super proud of each of these talented musicians
wow... what a joy to listen to. jubilant, lyrical alto sax solo followed by a change of mood in the piano solo which builds and builds up again. All the while with a truly great Rhythm section..absolutely love this.
2:00 sounds like “what else could I do? I’m so inspired by you.” Billy Joel from For The Longest Time quote maybe? Anyway, this was SUPER fun to listen to guys!

@karvakeisari9359 I mean, the language is there, but the tone is nowhere near to Bird's.
Bro this is like a masterclass on how to jazz
For 11 minutes the world stops and the pure Holy Spirit of jazz speaks sings dances and spins the universe into existence.

absolutely infectious!!
It was indeed a good one.
Holy crap when Emmet started soloing and the whole song got this whole ethereal floaty feel I lost it.
Felt very Evans- it was an interesting reprieve from the orgiastic energy that Bartley brings to the table.
yes I loved it
Greetings from Mr. Adderley
lol
By far the best named jazz standard...
Just listening to Emmet comp - is a lesson in harmony, listening and great voice leading. Thank you, sir!!!
And perfect use of drop 2
@@rthomaspiano yep. Drop 2 is part of the harmony and voice leading.

From 7:55 to 8:46 is just bliss
This so hip, and I love Lyle's Muppet impressions at the end. Pure poetry!
ジャズの伝統を受け継ぎながら、新な方向性を感じさせる演奏に大満足です。若い世代にはこの音楽がどのように聴こえているのか知りたいです。とにかく、このジャスト・フレンズ本当に洗練されてますね。
Patrick and Emmett are two of the best right now. Kyle and Russell are beasts as well
Emmet Cohen, you are such a great pianist. Great in comping and soloing. Thank you for the great music and videos you are sharing man !
This swings so hard 🔥
I feel like all my life iv'e waited to hear what real jazz is.
And this is it
i think these guys are transcendant
My god, Russell swings hard, yet so loose, just like Paul Chambers - that's some seriously cool stuff. Thanks man!
True. Fantastic rhythm section
Should be a sin to have this much fun.🎹🎹🎶❤️
The juxtaposition of each musician's restraint and simultaneously losing themselves in the music blows my mind...
Wondeful ! And With a diminished chord bar 7, YES !!!
Hahaha bIII diminished all the way!!
Wonderful endless creativity.
Bartleys tone, timing, phrasing, I subbed. and I will now go looking or his as well as your recordings ... .... .. .
