@@Terashi Nah, the game was absolute trash, and I've been playing FF since FF1 released on the NES. The story sucked ass. It felt like they took the basic ideas from 7 of being part of a resistance movement, and added a bunch of absolutely emo, unlikable characters in place of.. well, the 7 cast wasn't that much more inspiring, honestly, but they made it work. 8 had the most sad excuse for a romance I've ever seen, one of the biggest mary sues I've had the displeasure of playing.. and then there's Rinoa, the girl convinced she's the main character.. and.. yeah. I hated all of them. The story itself starts off and continues the idea of a "resistance" then throws in a whole pile of garbage that ends with the entire game being absolutely pointless - as it's rather clearly shown the characters are stuck in a more or less perpetual loop. They began together, they end together, and nothing actually gets resolved. What was that about the GF's being dangerous? Oh, right, that was a minor point, when it was pretty clear _they were the ultimate evils to begin with._ No, let's go beat up mommy and some eldritch horror instead. The leveling system is an absolute joke. Just like the story, there's no point in gaining levels, since everything levels up with you. The only way to get ahead is by using the GF's (which, as mentioned, should have been regarded as the actual evils in the first place). And, oh yeah, _DRAWING MAGIC._ I can't think of a dumber magic system than that - you have to sit around and draw spells, and then _never use them_ lest your stats drop. And those buffed stats are the only way to get an edge. Besides, of course, that monstrosity of a card game, where you're forced to mine cards from random players, then scrap them - sometimes unique ones that you kinda need to have an edge in the game in the first place - just to make the items needed to craft weapons and armor. Forcing you to play a pointless card game just to get ahead. The good points of the game was the music, and really good graphics for the day. That, I'll give it. Other than that, this game was an abomination. I'm glad it's kinda stuck in limbo as far as Square is concerned - the less we have to deal with this pile of burning trash, the better, unless they do like they've done with earlier FF titles and completely overhaul the entire game's internal engines.
@@Terashi Refute me, then. -How is the leveling engine not trash? When the world powers up the enemies to match your level? -How is the GF system not crippled, when you're forced to juncture spells that you then cannot use, lest your stats drop? -How is the magic system not utterly broken, when you have to stand in battle and DRAW spells from certain enemies, take damage, heal damage, just to get some of those very same spells required to make the GF system worthwhile? -How is the Equipment system not frustrating and needlessly time-consuming, when you have to play a card game, and sacrifice those cards, to get the pieces you need, to upgrade your gear? -How is the card game itself not needlessly, forcibly shoehorned in, when you have to do the above, to have some kind of an edge? Compared to Final Fantasy 7 and 9, which had "standard" level, equipment (minus 9's semi-optional Fusion stuff), and magic systems, how is 8's answer to these, anything but a complete downgrade in every regard? How about compared to 4, 5, and 6 as well? Go ahead. You have your opinion, I'm willing to listen if you have something that can counter my observations. Refute my points.
I don't recall the story as well, but it was decent enough and the cutscenes/graphics were the best back then. It could show the story very well@@calanon534
I just love the moment when the cutscene and music are completely and abruptly interrupted by this theme. It's so FF8.
Mmm takes me back to my childhood nightmares.. you know the good old days
This is a good rendition Tim
This sounds amazing.
FF8ではボス戦のこの曲が一番好きだった😊
Love it
cool
Great music. Horrible gameplay.
FF8 was truly one of the best.
