      What I do is that I have thin hair and I hate it down but I also don’t like ponytails so what I do that looks like a bun is that I pull my hair up like I’m doing a ponytail but then I like insert my hair inside the ponytail (idk how to explain it) and then I would spread it so it looks more full

      Hair like that can at least look sleek, and that's so pretty. My hair is thin but it's frizzy, so it looks awful and I can't do anything about it really. Either it's thin and frizzy and I look like a thin haired version of the "before" in Princess Diary, or I have to put minimal amounts of oil, seriously like a drop evenly distributed, which will make it flat and greasy looking, while still frizzy at the top because I refuse to put oil near the roots. 😓

    Hi ladies I am in "the industry" of hair and spa and have very fine thin hair. I wash my hair and condition it twice a week and use Aveda thickening tonic from about mid shaft to ends, Pure Abundance spray on the crown. When hair is mostly dry I use bumble and bumble hair powder, which has color in it on my head to fill in any areas that show too much white scalp which is generally towards the front of my head. It is a bit sticky and adds good texture. Also I recently ditched my Redkin and Aveda Shampoos which made my scalp itch, for shampoo with NEEM in it. This is an ayurvedic ingredient which helps repair and rebuild your strands and conditions your scalp in a way that does not weigh hair down. This is working for me at the moment. Good luck ladies!

    I used to think the same thing about not washing everyday. After 2 years of dry shampoo I started noticing hair loss. I went to a scalp specialist where I was told that is the worst thing to do for fine thin hair. The oils and dry shampoo build up causing hair follicles to become clogged and eventually kill your follicles.
    Through the specialist and my own research, daily washing with properly ph balanced shampoos, brushing with proper boar hair brushes (or synthetic) daily staring at the bottom and working up to the root when hair is mostly dry. Brushing/massaging the scalp is of utmost importance for increasing circulation to your hair follicles.
    Again, I used to follow your same regime, stopped brushing as frequently in fear of breakage and stopped dying my hair as I thought that was the problem. I started following the specialists advice and now my hairline has improved with new hair growth, including my whole head. PLEASE look into this before you end up where I was. Anxious bc I was loosing hair, thinking I would be bald by 36, go doctor was dismissive etc etc.

    • @JessLudlam
      @JessLudlam 4 года назад +3

      Washing your hair too much is why your scalp over produces oils creating it to get greasy faster. You strip your natural oils out of your hair when washing so your scalp tries to make up for it. You will have to go through a awkward phase of over producing oils while skipping washing your hair but it's short term. Eventually your scalp will calm down and not try to produce as much oil once it's not getting stripped away as much.

    I had glorious, thick, long hair till I was 66. At that time I stopped coloring it just in time to get hit with severe Covid. My hair was fine and healthy for the next year. My doctor retired and and her replacement changed my thyroid med and my hair started falling out!
    The thyroid med has been readjusted but I think I’ll start the vitamin D again. I also am trying to eat jello because along with the hair problems my nails are flaking away.

    3:51 When it comes to diet, see your doctor in order to get your nutrient levels checked via blood tests. However, see a nutritionist when you are looking to see if you need to change your diet or include/exclude certain supplements. It's important to remember that the majority of doctors do not receive training in nutrition so they are not usually the best professionals to seek when you are looking to change something in your diet.

    Something that a lot of people might find ridiculous but works for me is using conditioner before shampoo. That way your hair gets conditioned but after being washed with shampoo doesnt get weighed down AND you can use it in your roots without the hair getting greasy after that (it also gives me more volume). Also personally for me washing with cold water is a big no because it makes my hair super flat and shapeless and it looks even thinner, i always use warm or lukewarm water. Blowdrying isn't a problem if you use low heat.

    Actually using a fine tooth comb on fine hair and hair stylists do, causes your hair to look and feel smoother because it doesn't separate the strands as much as a wide tooth which makes it look less stringy.

    I wear wigs. I have them all possible styles and lengths. I wear short hair in the summer and go gradually longer towards winter, so in the winter I wear my hair just past my shoulders, and sometimes long when I go out. I camouflage the in between lengths with curlier wavy styles. Wearing wigs protects my own hair, I don't need to wash my hair as often and never need to use products, or even color. Doing this has caused my own hair to become much healthier and have even been able to grow it long for the first time in over 20 years. There are many realistic monotop lace front wigs these days that cost less then when I used to get my hair done, and I get complaments on my hair now, which I never did with my bio hair. I love my wigs :)

    I have had very fine hair for 66 yrs! I've been told I look so much younger than I'm am...my face skin is really good shape with only 2 very tiny wrinkles. It's my hair that's hard to handle with! I do take very good care with my medium blonde hair (no grey!) I don't bleach or color it, I trim it myself, it's not dry or damaged. I dont even need a hairdryer! I have the length below my shoulders so I can I can wear it up. I do take supplements but no big difference.
    My mother had very fine hair so it's a heredity factor for me. She dyed her hair, perm it, teezed it & lots of stiff hairspray....wow!!! A lot of work!!! She never went to salon.
    I've had to wear hats, scarves, clip on hair pieces or a wig to go out in public. Sometimes I don't want to go outside because it's too much trouble. I've used a lot of hair products...it's so costly!🙁
    *I haven't tried the cold water technique but I'm not going to like it. I have thin skin also & HATE the cold!!! Maybe...I'll try using ice cold water in a spray bottle on my wet hair after the shower with my thick terry cloth robe🙄🤕

My hair gets very tangled when its wet so it just helps with the aftermath when you get out of the shower. I definitely would not recommend using a small toothed comb as that will ruin your hair in the shower

    Your hair will look thicker too if it's all the same color! Also, for people with naturally curly/straight hair, don't straighten it because straight hair looks thinner. Don't have very long hair if it's super thin. For my hair, if I'm doing a bun then I'll wrap my hair around a scrunchie (so that you don't see the scrunchie), and it'll make it feel way thicker. Or I will do like a side braid, and have a long piece of fabric that I intertwine with my hair, and it adds thickness that way. For bald spots at the top I use Febron (it's like a brown powder that sticks to your hair) but you can use any hair thickening spray thing.

    I've started using the Herbal Essence bio:renew shampoos and I love them, I really feel like my hair is being cleaned. It's made a huge difference to the overall volume of my hair. And I've started shampooing twice in one shower. So I'll shampoo, condition and then lightly shampoo again. I find that although I'm careful only to condition the tips, it still manages to creep up close to my roots. Another trick I've found for fine hair is to use a volume mousse on my roots, gently blow dry the roots only, with my head upside down and leave the ends to dry naturally with little twists or something for a gentle wave. This keeps my hair looking fresh for so long and I only have to shampoo like twice a week (with a little help from dry shampoo).

    Very helpful :) I most often use a hair mask instead of a conditioner, but only in the lower parts of my hair. Furthermore I LOVE the Aveda light elements smoothing fluid to put in my ends. Keeps them looking super healthy (and the smell is amazing too)

    A blunt haircut has made all of the difference for me! And I love Living Proof’s leave in conditioner. And I use a blow dry protector (I prefer air drying, but I also shower at night.)
    Also, I only curl my hair once a week! I use Paul Mitchel’s Hot of the Presses, which is a light hold hairspray with heat protection. I spray each section really well and then curl when it’s dry. The curls hold for days (usually they don’t last more than a few hours) and don’t feel crunchy.

    2drops of castor oil in shampoo! I’ve been doing hair for 😳 30 years, best trick for fine, bleach damaged hair...

    I have fine hair in an area with hard water. My stylist recommended that I use apple cider vinegar instead of conditioner. The vinegar keeps buildup from occurring and my hair is silky soft. I also only wash my hair every 5 to six days. It took a few years to move from daily washing to what it is now, but definitely worth it.

    Hello to all my fine/thin hair suffering sisters out there! Thank you, Erin, for your video and I can tell you know what it's like to live with fine hair. I've tried all of these things and they do help somewhat, but I've learned there is a difference between thin and fine hair. I actually have a lot of hair (according to all stylists I've been to, so it's not thin) BUT the texture is very very baby fine. So, in the hands of a good stylist, my hair can look decent. However, any hairstyle I do falls down almost immediately. I've spent all my life trying to make my hair look fuller, but haven't found anything that really works. I never give up hope though! One day someone will come up with a product that does work....?

      My mother and grandmother claim they can't grow their hair past this length either! But my hair fine and relatively thinner than average, but the longest mine has been was belly button length. You can do it! We just can't wash our hair all the time or use styling products. You kinda have to embrace the flat straightness for a while until it gets long and beautiful and shiny. Our hair types do have some advantages!

    • @FallingSkywardz
      @FallingSkywardz 6 лет назад +5

      Sara D I disagree. My hair does well with them as it's very long and gets tangled easily. Id rather have silicone and make sure to do a deep clense once a month than have horrible breakage from detangling

    • @Dagoya04
      @Dagoya04 4 года назад

      @@FallingSkywardz yup, same here. I went silicone free for a year and I lost half of my hair. Some of it broke in half and I now have these chunks of hair that are way shorter than the rest which makes the rest of my hair look even thinner. It's a nightmare...

    Thanks for the video!
    I may have missed it, but a definite "don't" is roughly drying your hair with a towel.
    I have very fine, straight hair that refuses to cooperate. It's almost impossible to get any kind of volume. I have tried not washing it every day, or even every other day, but it's soooo greasy on day two. I have given it months, and I have tried dry shampoo and it seems to make no difference at all! I switched to Non toxic products a while ago, and finally found a shampoo and conditioner I like (Raw Sugar) but I still wake up looking like I slept in an oil pan. Grrrr.
    If I could make a wash last more than a day - and squeeze a little volume out of it, I'd be a happy camper!
    Oh...and let's not even mention the middle of my forehead cowlick from hell! :p

    • @MJF1958
      @MJF1958 5 лет назад

      I feel your pain. I can wash my hair tonight and wake up looking like someone soaked my head in Crisco. I have mismatched cowlicks on my forehead. Washing my hair every morning and creative blowdrying to tame the cowlicks is a must.
