Love your interpretations but the song dates from 1975, well before the AIDS epidemic. Apparently the lyrics were personal to him but he never made the meaning clear. Powerful in any case. Great channel!

It was the last song that Freddie recorded with the band before he dies. And as a fact, the band was worried by the high notes on the song and if Freddie could record it by the health state of him.
Freddie looks at the band, takes some vodka's slurps and he recorded the whole song on the first fricking take man.

Freddie is speaking metaphorically. When he says he killed a man he’s referring to when he told his mother he was gay, he killed off his straight self or the person his mother thought he was all along when he was in the closet. Usually when gays “come out” their mothers tend to cry. Especially back in those days when it was really frowned upon and not accepted. So that’s what he meant by “didn’t mean to make you cry”. This entire song is about Freddie coming out as gay to his family and friends. He never made a formal announcement in the media but he never tri d to cover it up either. I once saw in an interview where he said “If anyone who just got done watching my last show still thinks I’m straight, they must be absolutely crackers”.

It's very touching that you respect Freddie and Queen and rejoice in their music so much! He truly was a great artist and also was a shy man who was transformed when he performed. But he didn't allow that information about having AIDS to be publicly announced until the day before he died in 1991. His bandmates suspected that he had AIDS but he didn't tell them until 1989. He didn't ask for sympathy and didn't want to talk about it. As guitarist Brian May said, "He coped incredibly with his illness. He never, ever complained about it in my hearing."
Bohemian Rhapsody was first released in 1979, before AIDS was recognized. Freddie may have realized that he may have been at risk from or was already suffering from AIDS around 1982 - 1985 or so, but definitely by 1987 when the tests improved - eight years after this performance. He certainly knew that he was at risk for the same thing that was killing his friends.
But some of his songs seem to have contained some intuitive or precognitive (psychic) elements. Freddie composed other songs that seem to contain precognitive elements, as in We Are the Champions, when he sings, "I've done my sentence, but committed no crime." Or "I've taken my bows, and my curtain calls, you've given me fame and fortune and everything that goes with it, I thank you all. But it's been no bed of roses, no pleasure cruise, I consider it a challenge before the whole human race..."
Of course, the line, "Mama, I killed a man" could have applied to anyone who transmitted AIDS before treatments were available enabling people to live well despite the retrovirus, like Magic Johnson. Unfortunately, Freddie's illness came before the medical research had developed effective treatments and he suffered terribly before he died.

I'm old enough to remember when this song came out. My friends and I were just blown away! We were just like, 'wtf did we just hear??' ' We gotta get this album now!'
    Thanks for the vid!

I've seen those interpretations of the song about the AIDS or the homosexuality, and they're quite interesting, but because Bohemian Rhapsody is one of the top opera rock songs, I always thought is more about telling a story than being a metaphore.
And in that sense, I've read several times that the story of the song is more or less this: There is this guy, who said to his mother "mama I've killed a man", but then he talks about he's dying and telling his mother to go on, so I think the person he killed is actually himself, he commited suicide. And the reason? Probably he did something bad, but the first phrases about getting confused about if he's living a fantasy, saying his just a poor guy, and the last verse before Brian May's guitar solo, "I don't wanna die but sometimes wish I'd never be born at all" makes me think he got sick of life. So he dies when he's saying "goodbye everybody, I have to go".
In the start of the operistic part, "I've seen a silhouette of a man", I think he's in the limbo and the chorus made by the band represents the demons (or Beelzebub itself) attaking him and demanding his soul for hell (because you know, suicide is a sin and all of that religious stuff). Then he got scared and ask for help and the angels (symbolized by the very high falsettos done by Roger Taylor, the drummer) come to rescue him from the demons and the suffering. After that when the guitar drops again and Freddie starts singing "so you think you can stone me and spit in my eye", I think that is Beelzebub yelling and complaining because he's getting defeated, and in the phrase "just get out, just get right outta here" is running away.
And so the last part of the song, the "nothing really matters" is our guy who can finally rest in peace. And that's the end of the story. I don't know what you think guys, but for me sounds pretty cool XD

Actually its a power ballad you two get your facts right before saying operatic because Freddie was not the only singer with such a talented craft in his time -.- If I must just to add more salt to the injury of such insult to an amazing artist of many other top notch legends then your also insinuating without having to say it directly that Jon Giovanni, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Scorpions, The killers, The Police, Ozzy Osbourne, Meatloaf, Guns n Roses, Journey are operatic rock?! I so absolutely do not think so nor hear such an outworldly heretic statement like my ears wish to bleed and run from what I just heard out of you two. I'm sorry but damn that was lower to the belt than needed and offensive for my liking when I grew up to every genre's old or 'millenial' artists of their time from m.c to k-ci acdc to megadeth kenny rodgers to rascal flatts jojo to rihanna roxette to darude in my first 8 years and unknowingly revisited them from 12 up to 18 and have way more songs now in my library of songs I jam to for many of the same things while practicing to create my own works despite the shadows of my youth that hindered me 20 of the 30 years to date.

I am calm its not my fault 'the populous' lacks the coherence of interpreting texts just like with music -.- if I could make a reward it'd be the mega dunce of darwinism for the loser-- I mean 'winner' to wear for 5 years to indicate the irony of their idiocy. It may be operatic metal now but I am talking back in its time so crank yourself down a few notches just because of some new age dejected journalist critic calls it that out of his/her own lack of competancy to music

@@LyrikalMaestro well, acting like a jerk it's your fault. You could've pointed out our mistake and explaining it being completely respectful and polite, instead of behave like a freaking asshole with an enormous ego. I'm a physicist and I don't complain every time I see somenone using shitty arguments to defend terraplanism or saying stupid things like the atoms are structurated in orbits just like planets, or entropy as synonym of disorder, or mass is equal to energy. So don't get so cocky, you could've made your point without behaving like an idiot
