Hi I'm a 65 year old woman who had the blessing to see Queen more than once live on stage. Freddie Mercury had a powerful highly controlled wide range..truly gifted. Brian May was one of the best guitarists of our day. He was brilliant and think later after his career he became a Doctor of astrophysics. For a brief time we had "quad" where certain songs came through 4 speakers and certain songs like Bohemian Rhapsody were made to be heard where certain parts came through certain speakers. The operatic parts came out in a circular pattern around you. Pretty incredible. If you are up for more from my generation..check out Locomotive Breath by Jethro Tull or Radar Love by Golden Earring. Both two of my favorites. Even in 1975, this song was off the rails. NOTHING sounded like this. People have tried to imitate the opera and structure of this song, and they get shot down. Queen's entire catalog is unique and fascinating! :-) all the best to you

Actually music wasn’t like this in the 70’s queen decided to mix opera and rock, this was one of the first songs longer than 3 minutes that got popular enough to make it onto the radio( which was obviously huge at the time)
I really love how much you're enjoying Queen and how happy you are to share this with friends and family! Freddy and Queen are on another level. Here in England this song is more of our national anthem than anything else (except for perhaps Oasis - Don't Look Back in Anger). There's a rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody here on youtube which is amazing, I don't know if you've seen it. There was a background camera recording at the warm up to a Green Day concert. The stage is empty and the camera is looking out at a 65,000 strong crowd, then Rhapsody comes on the PA system and it's just - wow. Freddy is still out there commanding his audience :D

I've loved Queen and Freddie since I was a baby. I would play Queen in my car constantly when my kids were little. They are now 15 and 20. Both love Queen!
My first favourite song . I was 14 and this was the first song that meant so so much to me. Still feels the same and I’m now aged 60. This plus hotel California. I was at Queen Elizabeth school Hexham 1975.

Your interpretation is spot-on. Although Freddie never explained what Bohemian Rhapsody was about, many people (including Brian & Roger) now believe it was about the struggles Freddie faced about his sexuality, what his family & friends would think etc etc. I love your enthusiasm for "BoRhap" and Queen in general. The fact that someone of your age is so excited about this song nearly FIFTY years later is a great testament to Freddie and Queen. Their music will live forever!
I'm 22 and have fallen in love with Queen. So sad I never got to see Queen with Freddie. But I'm so bloody lucky to be able to see Queen perform with Adam Lambert in Glasgow. I have cried over their songs! 💚
Yes I am a teen of the '70s and I heard that this song was from the pain when Freddie and his lover realized they had contracted AIDS which eventually took both of their lives.
Queen to me represents a fantastical magic accident. A group of pure hearted musicians who were extremely disciplined and courageous set out with the very best of intentions to make music. And by pure luck they found each other. Brian May was an exceptional and fanatical musician. His ability to focus on the smallest details was insane. It shows that he loves music with all his heart and this is why they could make such badass music. By comparison to other guitarists, Brian is perhaps the cleanest guitar player I have ever seen. Freddie Mercury makes it look easy. But what he does is actually hella difficult. He was a creative soul to the core and at the same time a roaring lion of an entertainer. He was strait up obsessed with being the best he could be and he toiled endlessly behind the scenes for decades to achieve this level of artistry. Freddie just had something burning within him that he had to express. It was music. The mixing and sound manipulation done during the recording process of Queen albums is absolute perfection. I feel people do not adequately appreciate the skill in this. They achieve incredible success as recording artists because of this. Legends.
But back then (and in the early 80s when I 1st heard it, I was born in 77) we only heard it without headphones, it was on the radio and if we had the equipment and had 2 speakers it would bounce between the 2 but it wasn't until years later we would truly hear the bounce of the two layers when technology caught up with their genuis!

I was not a cool kid so, while I had a Walkman analog by 1983, I did not own any Queen music until much later. Still, it was pretty awesome and added an extra special layer when I DID hear the bounce. LOL

It's been nearly 50 years since I heard "Bohemian Rhapsody" for the first time. It still hits me like a sledge hammer! I knew, when I heard it for the first time, that I'd never heard anything like it before (and probably never would again.) Thank you, Freddy Mercury and Queen! My life is better (and I am a better person) for having you in my life.
Geez, I remember when I first heard it, (and I wasn't even born until '77) I was so confused / amazed that I had to call the radio station and ask "what at am I listening to?!?" It's funny to watch these rxn videos and see people just as confused as I was!
Mercury had a huge vocal range and flawless pitch and rhythm. He sang at opening of the Olympics in Barcelona with a welll known soprano and more than holds his own.
Most groups wrote their music, played their instruments, put the music together & performed their own recordings, and performed LIVE ON STAGE….THEY REALLY DID IT ALL!!!
The first time I heard this song was in music class when I was in middle school. My music teacher heard the song the night before and stayed up all night learning it and typing up the lyrics and printing them out on the old purple ink dittos for us - (people my age will understand what I mean)- he was so excited that he had us all hyped up too and we spent the next few weeks talking about Queen, Freddy, harmonies, and rock operas. I still feel his excitement everytime I hear it!
The bands in the 60"s and 70"s were the best, honestly as teenagers we were in 7th heaven all the time and I really believe life was awesome because of the musicians we had during those times, everyone had a good time 🇬🇧
I think because they were _musicians_ first, and performers second. They worked hard, gained the skills first. Too many people now want to skip the work- which is why we have auto-tune and so much mindless stuff that all sounds the same.
I love that you love this. The best interpretation of this song I have heard is that ... Freddie wrote this as a goodbye to Farrukh Bulsarra and hello to Freddie Mercury against his parents wishes. He is still known as one of the best if not the best singers of all time. His range was incredible maybe look the video on his vocals. I was born in '65 and have two sons 26 and 28 and they have said they hate all the songs out now about sex , drugs etc and the language in them. One's favourite band is The Eagles and Queen and the others is The Beatles, in saying that they like music up to some 2010s then it goes downhill. I grew up listening to this my Mum is a massive Queen fan, Saturday mornings as a child helping with the house work with this blaring at full volume, was magnificent!
Actually this was something so new and cutting edge at the time. The harmonies, the rock-Opera sound and the fusion of 4 separate songs telling a story had never been done and to my knowledge has never been duplicated.
I absolutely loved this reaction. That you are into Queen enough to introduce a friend to the band is awesome. The stage clothes at the time were called "Glam Rock attire."
All the record companies said this would never work, wouldn't be played on the radio, and would never be a hit. But Freddie and Queen stuck to their guns - and the rest is history! In the days before studio equipment to delete any flaws or making it sound better than it was. What you hear is how they sounded. Me having a very diverse taste in music, from rap/hiphop, alt rock, death/black metal to EDM, psychedelic pop, classical, n etc, without an absolute doubt, agree that Bohemian Rhapsody is one of the greatest musical creations of the 20th n 21st century.
As a late 30's man it's really interesting to see someone hear this song for the first time. It is obviously one of the best songs of all time. Don't know how RUclips decided to present this to me but I think they're both really charming young American blokes.

Was always great listening to their music and buying their albums. On the back of each Queen album you could find in fine print, 'No synths used, again'. Queen was a band that could actually sing and play instruments without relying on computerised correction. Saw Queen on stage. Had to be one of the best live bands ever. The audience members were smiling at each other as they left the concert.
The more I watch reactions , the more I feel lucky to have grown up in that era. Boy, did we have fabulous music!!! I saw Quuen 3 times and they were as good or even better than the recorded version. Remember, no auto tune existed, it was pure raw talent. AMAZING!!!

Having been a rock musician for over 40 years I started to see a decline in musical artistry once the digital age kicked in. It allowed people who were not great musicians to used technology to make them sound good. Rock musicians had to be able to replicate the sound live on stage in order to get a record contract. If you couldn't reproduce the sound on stage you had no chance.

My recommendations are- Hypersonic Missiles, Will We Talk, Getting Started, Spit Of You and Seventeen Going Under. His live performance sounds better than his songs to me. His lyrics are out of this world.
Just home from seeing Adam Lambert and Queen live in concert, out of this world .Brian May at the age of 74 is one hell of a guitarist. What was really good , was the amount of young people, who were not even thought of when Queen first hit music scene....
Check out the tribute concert at Wembley for Freddie the year after his passing - George Michael singing 'Somebody to Love'. He sings with the rest of the band - and it's amazing! If you want to know about them at present, then they still do concerts with Adam Lambert as the lead vocal. He's pretty good but not Freddie - but the best part is, he never says he is. He just sings the songs he loves - and he's doing great...
I'm 57 and English and I remember clearly when this came out. It was No. 1 in the charts for 16 straight weeks and I hated it! This is one of the greatest pieces of music created EVER! Also, Brian May PhD, the guitarist, built that guitar with his dad, and its still his main guitar all these years later. Thanks for doing this, lads! 💖
@@MaRoach7 I think it was because back in those days we had 3 TV channels, only 1 of which had a weekly music programme, and 4 radio stations and only 1 of those played contemporary music. I hated this song at the time because it was played every 20 minutes, every 24 hours, 7 days a week for four months! I'm an older man now and I recognise it for the classic piece of music that it is. Freddie Mercury was an absolute genius! 💖

Most folks get into Freddie's collab with Montsy by starting with "Barcelona", which was created for the Olympics hosted in Barcelona. Golden Boy is my favorite off that album.
Barcelona was used in the opening ceremony of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. My favorite is also Golden Boy, Freddie’s brilliant fusion of Opera with Rock/Soul/Gospel.
The whole album is such a trip it takes you all over the place but you enjoy it so much. So many different styles of song. The album is called “A Night at the Opera”.

Actually the rock of the 70's was far from what Queen was. Queen were like the royalty of Pop Rock, and were doing experimental progressive concepts so far outside the box , that they took the world pretty much by surprise. They were what every rock band in some way strived to emulate in the 70's. I was a young kid in 1975/76 when this song was released and Queen were the very reason I went on to play guitar , and perform in my life.

Brian May is the lead guitarist he is a electrical engineer he and his father built the guitar that he’s playing and still plays to this day! The drummer was the dentist, and the bass player if I remember correctly forgive me I’m 77 years old worked in Insurance
Not quite, Roger Taylor (drummer) degree in biology: John Deacon (bassist) degree in electrical engineering and creator of the Deacy Amp. Brian May (guitar) Doctorate in Astrophysics and of course Freddie held a degree in graphic arts.

I am just about a week from being 70. I am loving your reactions to the songs I grew up with.
Your interpretation is spot-on. Although Freddie never explained what Bohemian Rhapsody was about, many people (including Brian & Roger) now believe it was about the struggles Freddie faced about his sexuality, what his family & friends would think etc etc.
I love your enthusiasm for "BoRhap" and Queen in general. The fact that someone of your age is so excited about this song nearly FIFTY years later is a great testament to Freddie and Queen. Their music will live forever!
I'm 22 and have fallen in love with Queen. So sad I never got to see Queen with Freddie. But I'm so bloody lucky to be able to see Queen perform with Adam Lambert in Glasgow. I have cried over their songs! 💚

Yes I am a teen of the '70s and I heard that this song was from the pain when Freddie and his lover realized they had contracted AIDS which eventually took both of their lives.

Queen to me represents a fantastical magic accident. A group of pure hearted musicians who were extremely disciplined and courageous set out with the very best of intentions to make music. And by pure luck they found each other. Brian May was an exceptional and fanatical musician. His ability to focus on the smallest details was insane. It shows that he loves music with all his heart and this is why they could make such badass music. By comparison to other guitarists, Brian is perhaps the cleanest guitar player I have ever seen. Freddie Mercury makes it look easy. But what he does is actually hella difficult. He was a creative soul to the core and at the same time a roaring lion of an entertainer. He was strait up obsessed with being the best he could be and he toiled endlessly behind the scenes for decades to achieve this level of artistry. Freddie just had something burning within him that he had to express. It was music. The mixing and sound manipulation done during the recording process of Queen albums is absolute perfection. I feel people do not adequately appreciate the skill in this. They achieve incredible success as recording artists because of this. Legends.

But back then (and in the early 80s when I 1st heard it, I was born in 77) we only heard it without headphones, it was on the radio and if we had the equipment and had 2 speakers it would bounce between the 2 but it wasn't until years later we would truly hear the bounce of the two layers when technology caught up with their genuis!

I was not a cool kid so, while I had a Walkman analog by 1983, I did not own any Queen music until much later. Still, it was pretty awesome and added an extra special layer when I DID hear the bounce. LOL

It's been nearly 50 years since I heard "Bohemian Rhapsody" for the first time. It still hits me like a sledge hammer! I knew, when I heard it for the first time, that I'd never heard anything like it before (and probably never would again.) Thank you, Freddy Mercury and Queen! My life is better (and I am a better person) for having you in my life.

Geez, I remember when I first heard it, (and I wasn't even born until '77) I was so confused / amazed that I had to call the radio station and ask "what at am I listening to?!?" It's funny to watch these rxn videos and see people just as confused as I was!

Mercury had a huge vocal range and flawless pitch and rhythm. He sang at opening of the Olympics in Barcelona with a welll known soprano and more than holds his own.

The first time I heard this song was in music class when I was in middle school. My music teacher heard the song the night before and stayed up all night learning it and typing up the lyrics and printing them out on the old purple ink dittos for us - (people my age will understand what I mean)- he was so excited that he had us all hyped up too and we spent the next few weeks talking about Queen, Freddy, harmonies, and rock operas. I still feel his excitement everytime I hear it!

The bands in the 60"s and 70"s were the best, honestly as teenagers we were in 7th heaven all the time and I really believe life was awesome because of the musicians we had during those times, everyone had a good time 🇬🇧

I think because they were _musicians_ first, and performers second. They worked hard, gained the skills first. Too many people now want to skip the work- which is why we have auto-tune and so much mindless stuff that all sounds the same.

I love that you love this. The best interpretation of this song I have heard is that ... Freddie wrote this as a goodbye to Farrukh Bulsarra and hello to Freddie Mercury against his parents wishes. He is still known as one of the best if not the best singers of all time. His range was incredible maybe look the video on his vocals. I was born in '65 and have two sons 26 and 28 and they have said they hate all the songs out now about sex , drugs etc and the language in them. One's favourite band is The Eagles and Queen and the others is The Beatles, in saying that they like music up to some 2010s then it goes downhill.

Actually this was something so new and cutting edge at the time. The harmonies, the rock-Opera sound and the fusion of 4 separate songs telling a story had never been done and to my knowledge has never been duplicated.

All the record companies said this would never work, wouldn't be played on the radio, and would never be a hit. But Freddie and Queen stuck to their guns - and the rest is history! In the days before studio equipment to delete any flaws or making it sound better than it was. What you hear is how they sounded. Me having a very diverse taste in music, from rap/hiphop, alt rock, death/black metal to EDM, psychedelic pop, classical, n etc, without an absolute doubt, agree that Bohemian Rhapsody is one of the greatest musical creations of the 20th n 21st century.
As a late 30's man it's really interesting to see someone hear this song for the first time. It is obviously one of the best songs of all time.

Was always great listening to their music and buying their albums. On the back of each Queen album you could find in fine print, 'No synths used, again'. Queen was a band that could actually sing and play instruments without relying on computerised correction. Saw Queen on stage. Had to be one of the best live bands ever. The audience members were smiling at each other as they left the concert.
The more I watch reactions , the more I feel lucky to have grown up in that era. Boy, did we have fabulous music!!! I saw Quuen 3 times and they were as good or even better than the recorded version. Remember, no auto tune existed, it was pure raw talent. AMAZING!!!

Having been a rock musician for over 40 years I started to see a decline in musical artistry once the digital age kicked in. It allowed people who were not great musicians to used technology to make them sound good. Rock musicians had to be able to replicate the sound live on stage in order to get a record contract. If you couldn't reproduce the sound on stage you had no chance.

Just home from seeing Adam Lambert and Queen live in concert, out of this world .Brian May at the age of 74 is one hell of a guitarist. What was really good , was the amount of young people, who were not even thought of when Queen first hit music scene....

Check out the tribute concert at Wembley for Freddie the year after his passing - George Michael singing 'Somebody to Love'. He sings with the rest of the band - and it's amazing!
If you want to know about them at present, then they still do concerts with Adam Lambert as the lead vocal. He's pretty good but not Freddie - but the best part is, he never says he is. He just sings the songs he loves - and he's doing great...

I'm 57 and English and I remember clearly when this came out. It was No. 1 in the charts for 16 straight weeks and I hated it! This is one of the greatest pieces of music created EVER! Also, Brian May PhD, the guitarist, built that guitar with his dad, and its still his main guitar all these years later.

I hated this song at the time because it was played every 20 minutes, every 24 hours, 7 days a week for four months! I'm an older man now and I recognise it for the classic piece of music that it is. Freddie Mercury was an absolute genius! 💖

What most of today's music is missing is the harmonics. You can't get that with a computer. It only comes from a group of people feeling the music together. That's what makes these reactions so good. Hopefully it will change the musical direction and start bringing that type of music back. ✌️

Worth pointing out; that high soprano is the drummer, Roger Taylor. Freddy Mercury is the lead singer and plays piano & guitar. The lead guitarist is Brian May, who also has a PhD in astrophysics.
Most folks get into Freddie's collab with Montsy by starting with "Barcelona", which was created for the Olympics hosted in Barcelona. Golden Boy is my favorite off that album.

Actually the rock of the 70's was far from what Queen was. Queen were like the royalty of Pop Rock, and were doing experimental progressive concepts so far outside the box , that they took the world pretty much by surprise. They were what every rock band in some way strived to emulate in the 70's. I was a young kid in 1975/76 when this song was released and Queen were the very reason I went on to play guitar , and perform in my life.
Not arguing that they weren't unique but, come on, you had Bowie, Yes, Rush, Floyd, all doing really diverse unique things. I mean Bowie, dude.

Just research it . These bands to name a few have been noted to admit they were directly influenced by Queens stellar craftsmanship. Luke Bryan , Lynard Skynard, Mike Shinoda, the Backstreet Boys,The Foo Fighters, Def Leppard, Nirvana, Blind Guardian , Ben Folds Five, Anthrax, Nuno Bettencourt and Extreme were close personal friends of Queen, Garth Brooks claims he entered the Music Field because of Queen , and Believe it or not Kiss. Lady GaGa was such a huge fan and directly influenced by them that she took her name from one of their songs (Radio GaGa).

Brian May is the lead guitarist he is a electrical engineer he and his father built the guitar that he’s playing and still plays to this day! The drummer was the dentist, and the bass player if I remember correctly forgive me I’m 77 years old worked in Insurance
Not quite, Roger Taylor (drummer) degree in biology: John Deacon (bassist) degree in electrical engineering and creator of the Deacy Amp. Brian May (guitar) Doctorate in Astrophysics and of course Freddie held a degree in graphic arts.
