    Nice, I have been waiting for it for several months and finally got a normal review 😃

    Great review. I'm eager to sell my Logitech MX Keys to ditch the number pad for this, but I truly wish there was a backlight and no durability issues. Hopefully Lenovo releases an updated version soon!

      It’s been more than a year already and I’m still incredibly happy with this purchase, squeaking of the keyboard under pressure hasn’t bothered me since the review, I really didn’t notice any, but the leg is broken. I’m still a hardcore trackpoint user as well :)
      The lack of backlight isn’t a problem once you learn touch typing.

    Small update after using this keyboard for some time.
    1) The "mouse" buttons are very poorly implemented. They are flat and very hard to grope. The barely noticeable bumps on the middle button do little to help. On ThinkPad laptops these keys are designed much more intelligently and feel much better.
    2) The proprietary software has not been properly tested on older laptops with Windows 7 32-bit. I have two old laptops with this OS and this software refuses to be installed on both of them.
    3) The inability to at least programmatically swap the Fn and Ctrl keys is hell.
    But overall I like the keyboard and TrackPoint. As a full-fledged work on a Windows computer, I would never use it, but for the iPad, for which I bought it, this is quite enough.

      Hey,
      does your middle button work as Scrolling or Middle Click?

      @@Macsharip Both. By default, the middle button works as a middle click (and this is a very important feature for me, including on mice). But if I press this button twice, holding it down after the second press, this button works as a scrolling button. This can be changed in Lenovo's proprietary driver for this keyboard. But I prefer the way it works by default (although, I have increased TrackPoint sensitivity).

      That’s arguable. T420’s keyboard was great but it won’t cope well with the media and web of 2023.

    The only problem I have had with this is the FN key location, we cannot swap it with the Ctrl.
    it's possible for the wired version but the wireless. So sad.

    • @antonijankowski3379
      @antonijankowski3379  3 года назад +1

      I have only used it with 1080p monitors and it’s simply perfect. The trackpoint behaves the same way on 14”, 15.6” and 24” screens. I really can’t complain about anything else than the broken leg, to be honest I got used to flat mode and it doesn’t bother me anymore.

      I only had problems with Centos 7, on Manjaro KDE and Kubuntu it works without any flaws. One thing I don't like at all is the paring process on Linux, Windows does this single thing much better. Once it's paired and connected there's no difference between Linux and Windows, and if you're using a dongle there's no differece at all - no paring & connecting process.

    Thanks for the review. I am big fun of thinkpads keyboard.
    As I saw in other reviews the middle button works not as on Thinkpads (it is scrolling as long as you press the middle button and move the trackpoint up and down), but it works as the middle button on a mouse - you just click the middle button and then move in 4 dimensions. I hope I managed to explain :)
    In another video the keyboard was tested not with Lenovo thinkpad, but with some other laptop producer.
    Is it the same for you when you use it with your Thinkpad?

      I use it with Linux only, and with Linux it works just like you described in the first case, push the middle button and then move the trackpoint to scroll the page up/down. It’s exactly the same as my trackpoint on T480. The only difference is that with some documents T480 goes left/right as well and Bluetooth keyboard doesn’t. Also with a very few applications (AFAIK only Telegram) scrolling with Bluetooth keyboard doesn’t work at all.
      I don’t really know how exactly all this works with Windows but it should mimic the move of usual build in trackpoint, just like it does in Linux.
      All I can say is: go for it, you won’t regret it! :)

      @@antonijankowski3379 thanks for your comment!
      Just received my keyboard. After installing Lenovo drivers from their website, the scrolling works as it should: up/down and left/right (in excel for instance)
      and tested in Telegram, also works fine.
      by the way, just for info. There are exactly the same keyboards for Lenovo Thinkpad tablets with touchpad. On internet there is instruction on how to solder this keyboard and then it can be used as external wired keyboard with any PC. I tested it. The keyboard, touchpad and trackpoint work fine, but from esthetic point of view it doesn't look nice + it is wired :)

      @@antonijankowski3379 Yesterday I received this keyboard. First impressions are very good. I like the look and feel very much, as well as the shape and layout of the keys (which is why I'm a fan of ThinkPad laptops). Of course I also like TrackPoint. I haven't connected it yet. But I got curious if it is used with a Windows computer, is there a driver for this keyboard that would allow to swap the Fn and Ctrl keys? Similar to how it can be done on ThinkPad laptops (via BIOS or Lenovo Vantage software).

      @@Oleg__ I’ve never tried this keyboard with anything but a thinkpad, I guess “hotkeys” can do the trick on windows. To be honest I love the original thinkpad fn/ctrl layout and wouldn’t ever switch them. I advise you to get used to it, it really is the better way and only takes a few days to get used to!

  • @ilyakalimulin359

    Thanks for review! So, quality it poor. I need a new keyboard to work with MBP and I see that it is better to buy Magic Keyboard. I wanted to try TrackPoint and can use Karabiner to tune keybindings, but I see that this keyboard isn't solid.

    • @antonijankowski3379
      @antonijankowski3379  3 года назад

      I don’t think the magic keyboard is better when it comes to robustness of these things. Both are unique, but only the Lenovo has the trackpoint and this alone gives it a huge advantage. On the other hand magic keyboard definitely offers better compatibility with MBP, why don’t you ask this question on some kind of MBP forum? I tried Lenovo’s keyboard only once with the MacBook and it wasn’t perfect, but I’m also not used to apple.

      What did you end up doing? I have an old IBM trackpoint ultranav keyboard that I love and used to use on everything, including my 2010 MBP. But I left it at home and I'm away at school, so I'm considering one of these new ones. Did it work out for you on a Mac?
