The fact that he has Kiryu's facial hair gives me strength.
I think they did use him as a model at some point! :) Thanks for watching!!
They have, since 5
29:05 "Since someone asked me to do it, I said yes" - Kiryu in every substory
Geralt of Dojima.
That would be a pretty epic story :D
It's actually Date-san that voices Geralt
Kiryu is his own man.
I really love the fact that the origins of Kuroda's career was just a random Yakuza substory that went on a bit too long.
Haha :D Good one!
I still can't believe that's real and not a substory straight out of the game
the moment kuroda-san opened his mouth i melted
He has that effect on people :,D
The moment when u here geralt talking i melted.
Never thought I would see the day when I hear both Geralt and Kiryu in the same video. Talk about manly eargasm.
I am so happy to support Sega. The Yakuza games are just.. different. One of a kind video game franchise. It's not even about being a Yakuza. It's about being a man in a hard and tough world by having friends and family worth protecting be by your side in tough times. And they won't forget about you. This game actually change the way I view friends. I try to be someone others can count on and not regret it. I am actually a leader in a project group in school now. This is not me trying to be a superhero or someone special or something. It's just Kiryu taught me to always do what is right and of course what is best. Just bought Yakuza 0 months ago and now Kiwami is next. (I'm waiting for a big sale as I always do ;) )
This is a great point to bring up those times people say that "games don't matter" or "games doesn't help real life". Here we have a character that actually made a difference and that is really cool to see! We also love Kiryu and think he is a great character. The game itself teach you a couple of smart life lessons, really. Thank for your little story and good look with the project! :)
Thanks as well for doing this interview with them. Watched every second of it. It's always cool to listen to old people that have met success and tell stories on how did they start. And thanks again! I needed that. They are counting on me, those lazy fools lol, Never been a leader before dunno why they believe in me. But if it comes down that I am the only who can do it then I'll do it, It'll be good for me anyway. Oh god.. So sorry for my blabbering lol. It's just Kiryu inspires me to be a better man.
@@Solidude We believe in you! You can do this!
Really nice point of view.I play the series from 2005 and I must say that it is my most favorite franchise.I play games from 1993 and nothing compares to this except Shenmue.Metal Gear Solid is one of the series I love most but Yakuza takes the crown for me.If someone plays and pay attention to Yakuza he has a lot to gain from the personality of Kazuma.
Truly agree! Yakuza games = inspiration, MGS games = revelation. I love MGS as well, like Yakuza it takes itself seriously while at the same time it doesn't. Both games can make you cry in sadness then make you laugh 1 second later.
27:55 that actually sounds like something Kiryu would do
You are right about that! :D
26:21 lmao his story of how he started acting sounds like something that'd happen to Kiryu in a side mission
It does, doesn't it! :D
He started as an audition for Bungakuza, which is rhymes with the series that he famous for in later life. Sounds coincidence? I think not.
Why is this not having more views?
It's Geralt narrating a Yakuza video, also with Kiryu in it.
MIND. BLOWN.
Thanks buddy! Hopefully, it can be spread over a period of time! We really want more ppl to see it! Super glad you like it!! :)
Probably due to other yakuza videos that does not have subtitles, I know this video exist but it was only today that I watched it , they probably tought , just like me that this won't have any subtitiles as well
Takaya dressed like Jo amon
Actually, you are so right about that! Haha. It looks very similar! :,D
@@IGDBcom lol
He is Jo Amon mate!
No Jo Amon dresses like Takaya.
Sango Amon
I’m glad they acknowledge how special yakuza 0 is.
I heartily agree - I really hope Ishin is released in the West!
This is a wonderful interview!
Thank you for watching and the nice comment!
We're also hoping to see Ishin in the West one day!!
I'd love to see Ishin released in the west as well.
If Kiryu says it should be released overseas, you release it OVERSEAS!!!
@@rickyxiong1012 I'd welcome seeing Kenzan, too, though the need is less intense because there's a full fan-translated playthrough of the game.
Like, if I had to pick, my order of 'please please please' rn for localizations of what we don't have is Ishin, Y3's remaster, 4's remaster (and 5, after it comes out), aaaaand then Kenzan.
@@victoriastanton576 Not to mention, Kenzan might be a bit trickier to get localized properly because of the more "taboo" topics it chooses to show - front and centre in the main story, no less.
It's a great game, so I also hope it gets localized at some point, but I wouldn't hold my breath...
Omg. Finally RUclips recommended something good. I love the yakuza series.
Thanks so much for uploading this insightful video.
That's awesome to hear that this interview got recommended!
Thank you so much for watching! :)
I don't get why Yakuza was not so popular in the west, it is one of the best game franchises i have played in terms of story. My only gripe was the English voice dubs in the PS2 origional. Some of the voices were good but some needed work, I think Mark Hamill was a great Majima but no where near Hidenari Ugaki and Mark is a great actor and voice actor. As far as Takaya Kuroda goes he is Kiryu....
@@Razgar_Voxel It is a shame that it hasn't become that popular in the west, yeah. But maybe that can change after they have all been released? :)
I'm ganna miss having Kiryu as main character
Kiryu is a very hard shoe to fill for Kasuga Ichiban.
Kiryu will truly be missed, yes. Ichiban seems cool but only time will tell if he's gonna become as loved.
The good thing is that the character has a great voice actor. It's the voice actor for Nishiki :)
@@IGDBcom
Can't wait for shin yakuza on ps4
I'd like to see yusuke urameshi
On kamarocho.
I don't think Ichi is indented to fill Kiryu's shoes. He is a very different person from how he fights to how he acts. He still has the old yakuza way of thinking but he is further out of time then Kiryu was. How he takes that way of thinking into modern times is interesting. Im intrigued on how things will continue going forward. While nothing has been promised they have said they would like to make more games. I think that because they decided to use the original series name "Like a Dragon" as a subtitle I think the Yakuza part will be phased out as the games have taken a more political bend over the years with the yakuza being just part of the setting rather than a core element.
So I'm here from the future to mention Yakuza 8 will have dual protagonists. Ichiban and Kiryu
the way he laughed are exactly how i imagine kiryus laugh
I'm so glad I got introduced to the Yakuza-series.Being from Norway I had never heard about these games and had no idea what type games they were, and boy was I in for a surprise! Story wise it's without a doubt the best experience I have ever had while playing a game. The way it switches tone from being a very serious, intense crime-drama to silly, funny and very charming is just beautiful! Kiryu is hands down the greatest videogame character ever created. I just finished Yakuza 6, and now I'm just patiently waiting for the remastered Y3-4-5 to be released on PS4. May the franchise keep going forever!
Thanks for the great interview.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts about Yakuza! It kinda really hit home. The franchise is great and the mix between drama and silliness is just very creative. We agree that Kiryu is a fantastic character, that's why we wanted to do this interview. Kuroda put so much love into Kiryu and Sato has been working hard as a producer as well. So it's great that we all can share this moment, so to speak! We hope that the new remasters will reach the west soon! :)
Totally agree...really good games, specially yakuza 0..
Kuroda san's "Essence of Laughing" so strong.
I'm like Kiryu, I'm awkward, righteous and I live life seriously!
That's...that's like the perfect description of the Dragon of Dojima. That guy must really _be_ like Kiryu.
He really is, yeah! The only difference is that Takaya Kuroda is way happier and laughs more than Kiryu. But being in the same room with him def. gave you that Kiryu aura!
One of the best Yakuza interviews I've seen yet! Kuroda-san is such a friendly guy and Sato-san seems very intent on making sure the whole world can play more Yakuza games. They seem like wonderful people. Thanks for sharing this!
Thanks a lot! Kuroda-san was very friendly and sweet and Sato-san truly works hard as he cares about the franchise! They both do.
Thanks for watching!
The Yakuza franchise deserves more love. I've played 5 which is my first Yakuza game and continued on with 0, Kiwami, 6 and Kiwami 2. I really can't wait for Yakuza 3, 4 and 5 remasters heading west and hoping for kenzan and ishin release as well coming west. With judgment arriving west this summer I so can't wait to play it. I will continue to support and play these magnificent games from SEGA/Ryu Ga Gotoku studios.
Thank you for the comment! We also love the franchise and think that more people should give it a try! That's kinda why we did this interview :) We wanted to bring awareness to a great franchise, create subtitles so people who don't speak Japanese can understand and then see if we could reach a couple of new fans as well :) Thanks for watching!
Not only does Kuroda have great fashion sense, but he's super funny and chill.
He seems like a real cool guy and friendly, too! Yeah Kiryu might be gone, but he will always be the Dragon of Dojima! 🐉 I’ve been playing the series for nearly 2 years now, and I gotta say it’s best series that SEGA ever put out! Better than Sonic the Hedgehog, Shenmue, and all the other games combined! And I can’t wait for more! Thanks for uploading the video, it gave me more detail about the background of the man who voiced Kiryu Kazuma!
Thanks a lot for your comment and for the nice feedback! He was a really friendly guy with a lot of humor! Agreed! He will always be the true Dragon of Dojima :)
I remember for YEARS my buddy from the EU would praise Yakuza, being from NA it was hard to get a copy of Yakuza for the PS2 or PS3. I remember he told me to get Yakuza 0 when it came out and ever since the release of Yakuza 0 I have been in love with the franchise. I used to love the Fallout Series and Zelda Series but now Yakuza is my favorite series of games. Even went out of my way to get a copy of Ryu ga Gotoku Ishin.
Oh wow! What a cool story! It's really nice that it's a bit easier now to get a hold of the games. Hopefully, everyone can play Ishin one day, as it keeps being a request from a lot of fans :) Thanks for watching!
Kuroda might actually be cooler than the character he plays :O
this is the best interview I seen for the Yakuza series, I'm so happy you guys took the time to do this and provide translations. I love the video especially the following parts,
1. the awkward moment when Kuroda realised Ishin isn't available worldwide and couldn't stop talking about it
2. Kuroda describing the majority of Japanese male fans which I sadly fit the description as well haha (skinny and nervous)
3. Kuroda life journey to becoming a voice actor is both inspiring and touching in a manly way
Thank you for the hard work and I hope there are more videos of this type to come. This video certainly deserves a lot more likes and view
Thank you for this awesome comment! Made us very happy! They both were very friendly and it felt like a conversation between friends rather than an interview. It was fun to be able to get more insight in their lives :)
One of the best interviews i've watched ever from one of my favorite people in the world, thank you for amazing trasnlation and great questions asked
Thank you so much for the sweet comment! We're very happy that you enjoyed it!! :D
Geralt of Kamurocho, The White Wolf of Dojima
Next Triple-A game!
You heard it here first folks, Takaya Kuroda is going to be in the next Phoenix Wright game :P
We were actually thinking the same thing! Hahaha! That would be epic! Or at least Kuroda as one of the baddies going against Phoenix!
You know, if the producers behind the Ace Attorney anime were to make a season based off of Dual Destinies, he could be Simon Blackquill.
Takaya looking like a legend man, dude is living his life ,
Gintama is my favourite anime of all times. And Yakuza has been the game that best encapsulated what I love about it. People in tough situations, doing their best to lead a good life with the hand they were dealt. It's amazing how they all feel human despite the absurity and larger than life moments the game has.
Kenzan and Ishin ... FeelsBadMan
Hopefully one day!! :,(
@@IGDBcom but its a cool interview. some interesting stuff regarding the language options in future games. thanks!
Thank YOU for watching!!!
if there's one thing amazing about the Yakuza, they really know how to dress up
Very stylish indeed :)
one day isshin and kenzan will release in English, that will be a glorious day!
One day indeed!
Or just get them imported!
oh, they will my friend, they will .
Sega got an open minded now, not like 10 years ago, they already release Yakuza 0 in PC and it's a huge progress
By the year 2050
Maybe not Kenzan because of some of the sensitive stuff in it, but definitely Ishin
I remember in school I would get gaming magazines constantly, so I remember seeing the ad for the first Yakuza. Never got it and, in fact, I forgot the series existed until 0 and Kiwami were coming out. I asked one of my sisters to get me Kiwami for my birthday two years ago, and I loved it so much I unintentionally played every game which came to the west last year, with the remakes substituting for the PS2 games. Nothing would make me happier than the series becoming more well-known and for Kenzan and Ishin to finally come to the west. It's the information age, so if the games get people more interested in Japanese history, like Onimusha did for me 15+ years ago, they can learn the real history easily enough.
The chad just sat there looking like a badass for 5 minutes and when he spoke I just sat there like “THATS KIRYU!! HE SOUNDS SO HAPPY AND AWESOME!!”
i remember dowloading the ishin demo from the japanese store and i loved it. I think japanese developers should try a little more with the west, there is a good fanbase and a lot of people that would love to play a "very japanese" game like a yakuza spin off set during the samurai era.
Agreed!

Yakuza Zero is one the most anticipated when you want to start the series.

This is the first time I’ve actually wanted to know more about a team behind something I love, I’ve been wanting to become a voice actor for a while so I wanted to know more about the voices behind my favorite characters and Kuroda Takaya-san became a big inspiration for me. I love this man’s personality and righteousness as well as his ability to acknowledge alot of what he’s done all while sounding super humble. Thank you for sharing this wonderful interview and I wish I would meet this man someday !
Watch me learn Japanese just to play Yakuza ishin... I'm genuinely interested in the game and it seems so good. This series I've only played yakuza 0 recently but it has already caught my attention, I really wish they could translate all the games.

They should have asked Kuroda-san if he could preform the Karaoke songs live.
You mean live in the video or live overall? He has a band called Kuroda Takaya & Goodfellas. Usually during those lives he sings a couple of songs from Yakuza! Hopefully, they can release a DVD one day to the public :)
@@IGDBcom Really? I knew about the band, but I didn't know he sang the songs live as well...
@@dave9020 He has done "Baka Mitai", "MachineGun Kiss" and a few other songs live before :) He also sang a couple of songs during a Yakuza event in Japan. Sadly, we outside of Japan haven't gotten the chance to experience this yet :( One day!

@@dave9020 Yeah, sadly they haven't recorded anything on video :(
Weird hearing Geralt narrate the opening portion of the video. Doug for Kiryu dub in the future?
Doug as Kiryu, now that would be something :,D

Sure, aslong as they keep the option to stick with the original japanese voices. I prefer that over any dubs tbh.

@@IGDBcom either him or Kevin Conroy, cuz the first game got Mark Hamill as Majima
Friend got yakuza 0 for me as a Christmas gift but I waited till I had an external harddrive before I installed it. Before that I knew nothing about the yakuza series. Then I started chapter 1 and before I knew it I was hooked. I was into the story since the moment the tv showed the death of the one guy at the beginning of the game, fell in love with Majima when he was introduced and spent a few hours facing the amons. Playing kiwami now and I’m in love with the leveling system
This was a great interview! Good vibes and interesting questions and answers.
I'm really happy to see that they know how popular it has become in the west and I hope they reconsider bringing Isshin and Kenzan over here. I've followed the series since 3 and the lack of those two games hurts me physically.
I think they underestimate how well versed western Yakuza fans are in Japanese culture and history. I can't know for sure myself, but I would assume most of them have an above average interest in Japan.
Thank you for your nice comment and great feedback! The fans really want Ishin and Kenzan which is understandable! You want every game in your collection right? We also feel like fans should know enough about Japan not to get confused by the setting. Hopefully, we can get them all here one day! :)
Best moment i heard from him is "UUUURIIIEEEE!" in Yakuza Kiwami 1&2 when he attacks the enemies and when he was talking a bit English (well at least he tried, in Yakuza 6 side quest greeting the kid with "Nice to meet *Stopped* ".
Haha, both great memories! Kiryu has some fantastic sounds, doesn't he :P Also that sidequest is indeed hilarious! Thanks for sharing and watching the video.

This is a great interview! Interesting questions and answers too. I love the insightful remarks and personal stories here and there throughout the video. Was it hard to prompt them to have a conversation like this? Other interviews with them I've read or watched were kinda dull and at times felt scripted and forced. But the one here are natural and actually entertaining. I meant I was here for Yakuza, Kuroda, and Sato in the first place, but I definitely stayed for the actual content. Thank you for making this happened!
Wow! Thanks for the great feedback. It was a bit stale in the beginning, perhaps because they weren't sure how much Japanese we knew (plus that we were nervous!). But after a while, everything just fell into place and it truly turned into a conversation rather than an interview. When's Kiryu in tekken ? would make more sense than negan
Kiryu in a fighting game would be to die for
He would really belong there yeah!!
going to Smash Ultimate
He definitely would have been a better guest character then Negan. I would have go back and play Tekken 7 if he was in it.

I find kinda funny how Nishiki keeps making fun of Kiryu's fashion sense in Yakuza 0 while Kiryu's voice actor is always dressed stylishly as heck.
I love yakuza 😁 0 was my first in the series and I’m a huge fan of this series. Sonic was my favorite sega franchise but after playing the others (except for 3 and 4) yakuza is my favorite sega franchise and JRPG franchise of all time. Also I thank this series for getting me more into JRPGS 😁👍 believe it or not I got persona 5 and final fantasy XV royal edition ( a game that I wasn’t interested in before yakuza) after playing 0 and kiwami 😄
Thanks for your comment! Yeah, Kiryu is an awesome character! Same goes for others in the Sega franchise! JRPGS is truly awesome when done right. Persona 5 and FFXV are all good games so hopefully, you'll enjoy them as well. Thanks so much for watching! :D
