I get the sound assassin floor liner is great, used it on my JTR, but im curious, yes, sound dampening like Stinger, DynaMat and such is heavier but only by 2-5lbs, it’s also a lot cheaper so why not use that esp considering the bulk packs have a lot more panels available?
@@hollywood4n6 the sound assassin seems to work better, and like you said it’s lighter. At first I was hesitant to add any floor liner at ALL because of weight. Jeeps get heavy fast with each and every single little upgrade. So each lb matters
I did this to my Jeep about three years ago. Huge difference! I also took the door panels off and was able to get quite a bit of sound deadning inside the door which made closing it also quieter. I suggest doubling or even trippling the amount of sound deadning material on the wheel wells, which is where most of the noise comes from. Especialy if you have off road tires.

I bought my first Jeep a few weeks ago. A 2017 4 Door JK. I put an OEM grill on it but I got sucked into a wormhole of jeep videos during the process. Haha had no idea this kind of stuff existed. Coming from the audio world though, these would do more for your heat and air than your sound. It will do something but it’s not going to be a life changer.
I did this to my JKU. Threw down multiple layers of asphalt deadener on the body pan and doors. Also laid in a layer of closed cell foam. Made a HUGE difference (i run 37's). I think the next most important part to sound deaden would be the doors. But they're a lot more work so I haven't done it. Plus the asphalt panels in the doors would add weight... Great video, thank you!
That factory Loctite is no joke, depending what color they used. When I had to remove the body-mount bolts on my JT to install the Ace Engineering rock sliders, the front bolts requires a blowtorch.... they had used Red on the front, which usually the bolt snaps before the Loctite does if you don't soften it up some. I have the same rock sliders in my garage for my 2023 JLU (when it finally gets back from the dealer service from hell) and luckily I have heard the JL uses blue Loctite on the body mount bolts. Either way though, I always break them loose by hand at first before I put the impact on them. Call me cautious.
I did this for my 2015 jk soft top. Added hard top and did the exact mod so I could hear my toddler when he was trying to talk to me. Totally worth it. Also helped with temp regulation
Forgot to mention I also used Dynamat, all three types in the bucket. The lining of the floor and the doors made it as quiet as a sedan. I had to pull the doors apart to add it and remove the carpets but totally worth it. Doors sound like a Mercedes door when you close them
I had the interior tub of my '05 Rubicon Unlimited done by Line-X - the difference in sound deadening was amazing! As an added bonus, it made the interior pretty much indestructible. I think it's a better alternative to sound mats which can trap moisture and lead to rusty floorboards. (Nice German Shepherd btw - I also had a black one I named "Rubicon". Hello from Ohio (2017 JK here) Great video. Have you solved the rain channel run off inside your JK? If not how does the Sound assassin and Bedrug hold up to the moisture that comes in?
The bedrug is completely waterproof, its made of plastic to resemble and feel like carpet. Itll just pool up and drain. The sound assassin is butyl rubber so its not porous and cannot retain moisture either. It could possibly retain some moisture if you didnt apply it correctly and roll it on hard enough. One thing to note is that a 3dB drop is roughly equivalent to half the noise. His dropped roughly 2-3dB. Up to you to decide how much that’s worth to you.
Dont focus on the number of the decibel. For example, a Vacuum cleaner is around 80 decibels and average office noise is 70, so a few decibels can be an insane difference. Its a huge drop in person and its a clear difference. Plus the temp difference is insane if you live in a hot or cold climate. Im sure this isnt for everyone, but i also know there are people out there who really enjoy driving their jeep long distances, and this can be worth it for sure.
2-3 decibels is a lot! The difference between an office room and a vacuum cleaner is like 5 decibels lol. The jeep is incredibly comfortable inside now, worth it for sure
These kits don’t make your jeep quieter. What they actually do is cut out really annoying droning noises and frequencies which is what most people want either ways. The Decibels remain the same but the sound is more pleasant and worth the install.

@@ut_punkn1859 why are you talking about plastic? Where is plastic/Acetone you are talking about
@JK Gear and Gadgets acetone can also damage fiberglass. Which is what the top is made of.
The frequencies of the noises have gone from high-pitched to low-pitched, which are less annoying or intrusive.
is it worth it to linex the inside of the jeep after you put all the sound deadining down
That could be a good idea…
@@JKGearandGadgets haha, I am watching more of your videos as u sent this. I like the idea of putting the lines down on top of the dead sound as well
What year is the jeep that you are putting that in?
2009
@@JKGearandGadgets I can't find anyone that makes the sound deadner for around the windows in the top for my 2008?
@@jimbradd2783 hothead headliners does. They should have it on the site, or give them a call.
@@JKGearandGadgets ok thanks
I love this video
Not to sound negative but is it worth the cost to lower it a decibel or so? I’m assuming the materials were around $800-$1000
All that for only 2-3 decibels?
2-3 decibels is a lot! The difference between an office room and a vacuum cleaner is like 5 decibels lol. The jeep is incredibly comfortable inside now, worth it for sure
You should get a mytop instead. It’s quieter than my hardtop
Should have just went with Armorlite.
These kits don’t make your jeep quieter. What they actually do is cut out really annoying droning noises and frequencies which is what most people want either ways. The Decibels remain the same but the sound is more pleasant and worth the install.
I mean, my decibels dropped.
@@JKGearandGadgets Hard to take you at your word as this is a sponsored ad. Maybe if you didn’t have a Code for purchase I would consider this response unbias.
@@armandocardona6975 I guess I somehow changed the sound in the video.
The discount code literally gets me nothing… After making the video I had a few people on IG ask if I had a discount code. I had posted sneak peak pictures on my story, after about 10 people asking for a code I reached out to Mark at Hothead to see if we could setup a discount code for the channel, he agreed.. the video was already made, filmed, edited, and posted to RUclips.
I’m glad I had to explain myself to you, a person who I have never met, nor owe any explanation to. Yet, here I am. Hope this makes you feel better? I’m not sure what you would like, but you took a good 5 minutes of my day so I could type this out for you.
Enjoy the discount code if you want, or don’t lol….
I like how the JK's are dropping price. 2dr X and Sports are getting cheaper.
Yep! They are a great price for a fun build
