      Can’t speak to most of those ideas but years ago, I think it was 60 minutes or dateline, something along those lines, had a reformed career car thief on to talk about theft prevention measures and the one question I remember so clearly - “let’s say there are two identical cars you want to take. One has “the club” installed on the steering wheel, the other doesn’t. Which one would you steal?” Without missing a beat the ex thief says “both”. 😂

    After 3 attempts of stealing my Jeep, I just lost it and did this lol. Now I'm at 5 attempts but the hood alarm scares them off, you gotta love the Tazer Mini. (The hood alarm should be enabled by default from Jeep, I don't understand why it's not).
    - TAG/Domino GPS system from my dealer
    - Key fob Faraday bag
    - Steering wheel lock
    - Electrical Kill Switch with remote
    - Tazer Mini for the hood alarm and also the PIN number to lock the wheels if the PIN is not entered in timeframe.
    - My own GPS system with removal and motion sensor.
    - Ring Cam pointed at the Jeep
    I know this looks like overkill, but these guys are relentless. They just don't care, and the police care even less. Insurance costs are insane up here in Canada and now I can sleep with both my eyes closed. Hey, if they steel it with all of the above installed, they deserve it lol.

    My first Jeep was a 2005 TJ. I had an alarm installed that had a proximity feature. They dialed it in so it would only go off when someone reached into the Jeep since I had the top off so much. There's probably a lot better tech now but it worked really well!

    I have the tazer definitely would get that, it has a pin lock setting where you have to put in a code before driving. It locks up all the brakes, ive tried it and put the jeep in neutral and neutral on the transfer case and it wouldn't budge. And i also have it set for a alarm to go off when the hood is open when the alarm is set. Theres many other settings you can do and there not all about security.

    Some good (and bad) ideas. I’m nearly 48 so I remember when the steering wheel club was a new thing. Those are easy to bypass.
    The two best ideas are the pin (which I had no idea existed and is awesome) and a kill switch. I’m buying a 6-speed manual so that’s a third layer of protection for my Willys.

  • @CRXUGLYKID
    @CRXUGLYKID 2 месяца назад +6

    Forget the steering wheel locks, or any locks that deal with the steering wheel. They cut the steering wheel to get off. Been a victim of that.Use the brake/clutch pedal lock. that is good and I use on my jeep. Not too expensive($70) and it works. The wallet rfid wallet works.

  • @CRXUGLYKID
    @CRXUGLYKID 2 месяца назад +3

    The best is the compustar t13 alarm combined with the Igla alarm system. All together you have live gps and with the igla you put a specific code combo, for example. Left turn signal, horn, hazard combo then it will start. So they can have the key fob,alarm fo, your keys or if you have a charger, the red key fob. Unless they know the code combo it's not going anywhere.

    I have a C&L Throttle Response Controller which has a "Lock" setting. When that is on you can put the accelerator to the floor and the Jeep will only go about 1 mile per hour.
    Also, sometimes I will put the transfer case in Neutral and put a hat over the lever. A lot of times if someone is trying to steal the Jeep they will start to panic not knowing why the Jeep isn't going anywhere and will bail.

    Great anti-theft review! Another option to add to the anti-theft list is a kill switch for fuel pump and/or starter (this would be a custom DIY project idea since your hiding a switch somewhere). Oh, and Trunk Monkey.

    How about just disabling the passive entry, and add a kill switch. That will slow them down.
    Couple places on line sell prewired harnesses for our jeeps that interface with the start stop button. Those are cheap ideas. The IGLA are better solution. Oh yeah my radar detector companion app will tell me anytime it picks up an air tag or tracker. I'm sure the thieves have even better.

    9:20 a issue with this, is that when your Jeep has zero power it also can't set the alarm off and honk to scare people away or alert others.... also, Instead of bothering with that on your battery, just unhook your battery terminal for long term, it takes the same amount of time/effort for a thief to bypass it! BUT
    Instead of putting it on your battery, put it on your STARTER feed wire! Then the jeep will still retain power, and the security system will work, but won't crank over unless you "unlock" the device! :)

  • @HardcountsAdventures
    @HardcountsAdventures 2 месяца назад +1

    The reason why the clubs failed is because your steering wheel is the weakest part of the interior and you can just hacksaw a piece out of it and take the club off so not a good deterrent. The brake lock works pretty good though and can be used when the top is down and the doors are off.

  • @Peoplearesheeple
    @Peoplearesheeple 2 месяца назад +1

    Just wondering why you couldn’t take the power lock switch and just install it on starter wire only. Then you wouldn’t lose all your setting. Starter still wouldn’t work. 😜

    My 2022 392 was stolen last year from AUS airport parking garage. At the time I was told the "club" was best for theft deterrent and hidden air tag was best for recovery. I had nothing but UConnect. I was gone less than 30hrs when I came back to it gone. Vehicle was not recovered, but was tracked about a week after it was stolen. Even had GPS and UConnect contacted law enforcement because the vehicle reported it was in an accident on the property where GPS showed it. By the time law enforcement were allowed access by the property owner there was no sign of the vehicle. Our thinking was that the thieves corrected whatever mistake they made disabling the system which reported as an accident. UConnect stolen vehicle recovery was useless.
    Trade offs for all theft prevention. Would love to have OC Spray into the cab of the vehicle if the alarm is triggered or glass broken, door ink packs like banks use (in the color of your Jeep) to mark the thieves... anyway.. great content, as I am sure you can tell I still miss my Jeep and won't forget that event or the attempted recovery.

    All of those don’t work, good at helping but don’t work. Best thing to do is kill switch the OBD2 port. All of them trackers don’t work at the moment they have your Jeep they will use a signal jammer. Dont waste your money on any of these. Buy a switch anywhere from $5-$10 switch and tap to yellow wire that goes to the OBD2 port. And hide the switch. Don’t tap it near the OBD2 port. Tap it away from it like somewhere between the ECM and OBD2 2 port. I know all this because my neighbor son is actually one that steals cars. And sells them. His life not mine and no I’m not telling the law about his. Not my business to.
