And if you watch Suzette's interview you'll know that she said the same thing. She was okay with them not hanging out with their family. The point of the series was to keep the story going and being able to give every little detail about Selena's life, all the little stories and moments that made the big picture. Y'all just like hating things too much.

This is why I will never really go back to watching the movie the same way. Yeah it showed us things that we didn’t know but what the series brought was something new, revealing, and refreshing. The movie will forever be gold, but the series is where it’s at. The movie shows her dad being the typical father figure which was not bad, but the series DEFINITELY showed his true colors.
I agree. I did not know that Selena had all of those different hairstyles. Obviously the movie was just the vehicle for Jennifer Lopez is Career. This series was needed.
You can only do so much in a movie so of course they would skip around to her main songs. There is more time in a show to explore a lot of different things.
I was skeptical at first but once I started watching I couldn’t stop. It was really good. No one is going to be exactly like Selena. Like her sister said it’s about the story and their journey. I loved learning more about the family and what it took to get as far as they did. I love how humble they are. I can’t wait to see season 2 but I also know the ending so it’s heart breaking at the same time.
In the casting/early production phase, people hated on J Lo....But after the movie came out, and people were actually able to see the finished product, J Lo shut all the naysayers down.She did Selena justice and had a similar body type.After viewing pt 1 of the Series, the tides not turning in Christian's favor like it did with J Lo.Most people are reacting like "WTF!?" AFTER seeing the finished product.Christian's not shutting them down like J Lo did.I feel like she was a miscast.
People gave jlo a hard time cuz she wasn’t Mexican, she’s Puerto Rican. & ppl were so upset about that. I personally think that doesn’t matter! She did great in my opinion.
Except that J-Lo actually embodied Selena. Maybe she didn’t look like her but she became her and the hair and makeup people took care of the rest. If you can’t act it out then it’s pretty much just doing an impression based off a near resemblance.

Me and my friend never liked Selena’s dad, I even got to meet him, not that I wanted to, and my real dad, who I don’t live with, wanted me to take a picture with him, and he was like, “Make it quick, I got stuff to do”.

personally there’s no reason to bash this series, yes the characters may not look like the real people but they did a good job to portray the personalities 💖 selena will always be LA REINA.
I actually think the parents look more like the real ones than the movie counterparts did. Suzette and Ricky look pretty close to how the real ones looked like at the time. It's hard to find someone that looks like Selena, Serratos did well and at times looks so much like her. I guess I wish Serratos wasn't so slim in the torso and arms and her eyebrows are a bit too flat and thin but she's definitely selling it with the personality. Only issues? Well AB looks waaay too good looking compared to real AB, though I feel like that was on purpose. Chris' actor needs to flatten his hair a lot more and Pete's actor's eyebrows bug me so much, but aside from that they're all pretty nice portrayals.
Not gonna lie at first I wasn’t impressed but it grew on me. I love how much more we learned about the family and Selena. Makes her even more relatable
The show was amazing. As someone who knew VERY little about Selena...this series has sent me down the wormhole. I cant stop finding old footage of her. She was incredibly talented and i feel ashamed for not knowing so before. Im honestly bothered it took a tv show to open my eyes & ears to her. Im 30. Id always heard of her but never followed her story. I had not seen the movie either but ive since gone back and watched it.. Im in awe though. A true icon. I really feel like her purpose has been magnified and will continue to be for future generations to hear her music for the first time. Its up to us to keep her spirit alive here on Earth. Great job.👏

Christian did just as good of a job as Jennifer did. She's also just as georgous and Jennifer is too. Couldn't take my eyes off of them in the movie and the series! Both great IMO
To be honest I think this whole series could’ve been called The Quintanillas, because at some point I kindof forgot that this is mainly about Selena, and I know they wanted to do this to really show details and dig deep on how they really came up and the beginning of it all and things that the movie didn’t or couldn’t include, but it just felt weird. I’ve had a weird feeling about this series ever since it was first bought up because I was just like ...why.

No complaints here. Yes dancing+lip syncing could have been better, but at the end of the day Selena+family are people with emotions+flaws. Selena is a true legend, so I'm choosing to enjoy the show. Excited for pt 2 🙏🏽💜
I heard that Natasha Perez wanted to speak with Yolanda Saldivar, but chose not to out of respect for Selena’s family. The show’s creators didn’t interview her as well and they did their research based on pre existing interviews. Maybe it was for the best, because we all know that Yolanda has a silver tongue.
Christian did an excellent job as Selena. I loved it. Maybe I’m biased because I love her as Rosita in The Walking Dead but I actually think she did amazing. I can’t wait for season 2.

I liked his character in the series more than the movie honestly. It's more true to real life cause Chris even tho he was shy he wasn't a push over the way the movie made him come off as. In the movie also made him come off as an air head surfer dude that was like "what ever" "i like it if you like it" with no real thoughts of his own. that's not how he is at all. In the series he lets Selena know he wants to be with her just as much as she wants him. He also confronts Selena about her crappy behavior towards him when she starts giving him the cold shoulder just because she didn't want her dad to find out. Again they gave him his own feelings and thoughts in the series! Loved it
Probably because of Quarantine. We are in a pandemic after all. If the world wasn't falling apart, circumstances I'm sure would be very different. And Suzette & Abraham are both behind the scenes in the development of this series. Let the story be told. Its important that Selena is legacy is never forgotten.

This show has been great. I like how it goes into more detail on how they came up on the scene. It is def a deeper dive than the movie. For those complaining about there being more Selena media in the world, this is a chance for a new generation to become fans and fall in love with Selena like most did when we were all younger
At the end of the day with out Abraham there would be no Selena. He pushed them all to be better. He wasn't perfect but he held the standards high and made them toe the line. It not easy to guide the flock. The series humanized him for me. Cause this is most hispanic dads.. no filter, no crap.
The thing is JLO had the EXACT body type and dance moves that Selena had. And JLO nailed Selena's laugh and mannerisms. So yeah, we expected someone that could look , dance and laugh like Selena AKA ALSO JLO. JLo's face doesn't look like Selena, but everything else was 100% spot on. Selena's voice is timeless, but lets not kid ourselves: Selena's body was also kind of her trademark. Remember, she was around before JLO became JLO and before the Kardashians of the world. Selena's thickness, dance moves, voice & sound made was what made her so freaking ICONIC. So yeah, Christian is a letdown.

I feel like the casting was great for each other in terms of the chemistry. The little sibling moments or father daughter moments were truly convincing and fell in love with their relationships. The performance scenes on the other hand... I found very cringy and not convincing at all.
That's what's lacking in this series! The majority of the cast never met with the family physically to really capture the pure essence of Selena in my opinion... I guess Covid could be a hindrance if they filmed this during this year. But if it was last year, they have no excuse.
I just fell in love with this series. It truly put onto screen how hard the family worked together as a unit to put food on the table. I loved every moment learning the trials they went through and then the high points of watching things come together such as the signing of the contract with EMI. I don't want it to end. I do hope they include how the family carried on after Selena's passing. I watched the entire series in a day and then I am rewatching it and picking up more things that I missed the first time.

In the face with christian they did make her look like selena more then i thought they could but the body not even close, the wigs especially in the last two episodes the black ones noooo... I enjoyed the story but no i was disappointed no soon as i saw the trailer. They could have found somebody with more similar body to selena. What were they thinking lol.

I loved part 1 and part 2 I thought the cast was amazing specially Christian Serratos I saw a lot of Selena resemblance in her. I binged watch both chapters I would love to know more and more I hope there’s more parts to come.

i’m so sick and tired of “fans” bashing the series when they did a wonderful job. christian did a phenomenal job portraying selena. I really enjoyed this series because it dug deep into the days when they were young and the movie didn’t provide that. whether people believe if that’s what really happened or not, it was very entertaining and we should be grateful that they’re evening sharing her story.
I loved Season 1 and anxious for Part 2! I have always loved Selena and everything about her! My brother used to live in CC and in 2006 I was able to go see the museum, the grave, the statue at the marina! It was all so wonderful and what some may not realize is her original tour buses are there. 🤗
Part 2 is projected to air January 2022. The cast wrapped filming part 2 in early October, but they recently began reshooting certain scenes and adding some. This is supposed to take place over the next three months. A trailer will drop in May for part 2.

I actually Love seeing pretty much Every scene they left out of the film. There was No Selena without her family, they deserve the spotlight as well once. Sad about the lack of Chris input, but overall, it feels worth creating. In the movie, Selena felt like she was in her 20s the entire time??? And the series shows how overworked her brother was 😵 I couldn't imagine. I'll Definitely tune in for Part 2! ☺️

I loved it! I was skeptical at first BUT this was really needed. The movie was GREAT and highlighted her career ONCE she became popular. BUT this series shows THEIR come up and how it was a struggle for them. It’s always about SELENA but we forget there are others who helped with her becoming this STAR. And Selena loved her family and she’s always made it know that without them there would be no her. So to be able to see that and get to k of the family more is amazing! Although CHRIS deserve soooo much better but I feel in time his story will be able to come to light.

I wonder if Part 2 will go into more detail with the 4 times Yolanda tried to kill Selena before she actually did, I doubt it though but that’s a major plot point that was missing in the movie that had me confused the first time I watched it
Christian really /is/ beautiful. Even though she didn’t nail the performances she nailed Selena’s kind, bubbly and magnetic nature. You can’t help but love her. I also feel she did a good job at her speaking role. I do understand the comparisons to Jennifer. Despite, Jlo being Puerto Rican she had similarities to Selena such as height and body type. They used make up and hair to take care of the rest. I’m rooting for part 2. We’re finally out that bad wig phase. I hope when Selena and Chris elope in the series, it has the same romantic feeling Jennifer and Jon were able to capture. That is literally one of my favorite scenes. You could feel the freedom and Selena felt. The way they looked at each other like this was just the beginning for them.

I agree. I did not know that Selena had all of those different hairstyles. Obviously the movie was just the vehicle for Jennifer Lopez is Career. This series was needed.

I was skeptical at first but once I started watching I couldn’t stop. It was really good. No one is going to be exactly like Selena. Like her sister said it’s about the story and their journey.
I loved learning more about the family and what it took to get as far as they did. I love how humble they are. I can’t wait to see season 2 but I also know the ending so it’s heart breaking at the same time.

I actually think the parents look more like the real ones than the movie counterparts did.
Suzette and Ricky look pretty close to how the real ones looked like at the time.
It's hard to find someone that looks like Selena, Serratos did well and at times looks so much like her. I guess I wish Serratos wasn't so slim in the torso and arms and her eyebrows are a bit too flat and thin but she's definitely selling it with the personality.
Only issues? Well AB looks waaay too good looking compared to real AB, though I feel like that was on purpose. Chris' actor needs to flatten his hair a lot more and Pete's actor's eyebrows bug me so much, but aside from that they're all pretty nice portrayals.

The show was amazing. As someone who knew VERY little about Selena...this series has sent me down the wormhole. I cant stop finding old footage of her. She was incredibly talented and i feel ashamed for not knowing so before. Im honestly bothered it took a tv show to open my eyes & ears to her. Im 30. Id always heard of her but never followed her story. I had not seen the movie either but ive since gone back and watched it.. Im in awe though. A true icon. I really feel like her purpose has been magnified and will continue to be for future generations to hear her music for the first time. Its up to us to keep her spirit alive here on Earth. Great job.👏

To be honest I think this whole series could’ve been called The Quintanillas, because at some point I kindof forgot that this is mainly about Selena, and I know they wanted to do this to really show details and dig deep on how they really came up and the beginning of it all and things that the movie didn’t or couldn’t include, but it just felt weird.

I heard that Natasha Perez wanted to speak with Yolanda Saldivar, but chose not to out of respect for Selena’s family. The show’s creators didn’t interview her as well and they did their research based on pre existing interviews. Maybe it was for the best, because we all know that Yolanda has a silver tongue.
Christian did an excellent job as Selena. I loved it. Maybe I’m biased because I love her as Rosita in The Walking Dead but I actually think she did amazing. I can’t wait for season 2.

I liked his character in the series more than the movie honestly. It's more true to real life cause Chris even tho he was shy he wasn't a push over the way the movie made him come off as. In the movie also made him come off as an air head surfer dude that was like "what ever" "i like it if you like it" with no real thoughts of his own. that's not how he is at all. In the series he lets Selena know he wants to be with her just as much as she wants him. He also confronts Selena about her crappy behavior towards him when she starts giving him the cold shoulder just because she didn't want her dad to find out. Again they gave him his own feelings and thoughts in the series! Loved it

Selena's voice is timeless, but lets not kid ourselves: Selena's body was also kind of her trademark. Remember, she was around before JLO became JLO and before the Kardashians of the world. I feel like the casting was great for each other in terms of the chemistry. The little sibling moments or father daughter moments were truly convincing and fell in love with their relationships. The performance scenes on the other hand... I found very cringy and not convincing at all.

That's what's lacking in this series! The majority of the cast never met with the family physically to really capture the pure essence of Selena in my opinion... I guess Covid could be a hindrance if they filmed this during this year. But if it was last year, they have no excuse.
They started shooting before COVID happened but just recently finished shooting season 2
I just fell in love with this series. It truly put onto screen how hard the family worked together as a unit to put food on the table. I loved every moment learning the trials they went through and then the high points of watching things come together such as the signing of the contract with EMI. I don't want it to end. I do hope they include how the family carried on after Selena's passing. I watched the entire series in a day and then I am rewatching it and picking up more things that I missed the first time.
I really want to see part 2 I don’t want to wait but I know it will be out in come summer/Spring.

I loved Season 1 and anxious for Part 2! I have always loved Selena and everything about her! My brother used to live in CC and in 2006 I was able to go see the museum, the grave, the statue at the marina! It was all so wonderful and what some may not realize is her original tour buses are there. 🤗

Maybe thats why I feel Christian lacked , Selena’s spirt and her amazing performances bc she didn’t even meet the family jlo didn’t really look like her but she captured her personality Christian didn’t and well jlo lived there maybe they should have put more of an effort training Christian

I actually love the series nobody will ever be Selena she’s one of a kind but at the end of the day it’s not about the wigs or clothes it’s about engraving heart end soul and seeing that a strong family survives any kind of ups and downs it’s sad people attack her and judge her just from the original movie this isn’t a movie it’s a series that the family put together for Selena fans I stand behind the family and can’t wait for part 2 Amazing Job ❤️

I actually Love seeing pretty much Every scene they left out of the film. There was No Selena without her family, they deserve the spotlight as well once. Sad about the lack of Chris input, but overall, it feels worth creating. In the movie, Selena felt like she was in her 20s the entire time??? And the series shows how overworked her brother was 😵 I couldn't imagine.

Incredible Series! I learned more about her life through the Series.. I remember her growing up & she lived in my neighborhood.. but I am more of fan now.. she was an Incredible Person ❤️ & her legend will live on ⭐️
The fans should demand a movie on a Love Story only. Chris ❤️ Selena movie. And make it for the big screen movie theater, release it when in hopes the Coronavirus has died down .
I loved it! I was skeptical at first BUT this was really needed. The movie was GREAT and highlighted her career ONCE she became popular. BUT this series shows THEIR come up and how it was a struggle for them. It’s always about SELENA but we forget there are others who helped with her becoming this STAR. And Selena loved her family and she’s always made it know that without them there would be no her. So to be able to see that and get to k of the family more is amazing! Although CHRIS deserve soooo much better but I feel in time his story will be able to come to light.
Why wouldn’t you want to hear how to play someone that is literally them and are alive!?!?!?!

Where do I start coming from south TEXAS I grew up with Selena still at my age I still cry this bought many memories to my heart every song she sings is a memory In My life I was reminiscing my years my tejano years Selena you got what you always wanted in 24 hours you made number#1 in America and Latino Netflix international your fans have not forgotten you I made sure my grandchildren know who you are we know the love of your life was Chris but dad just felt he worked so hard by the time you met Chris you were already signed up with emi records there were so many hardships sacrifices he worked hard in believing his daughter could be number one ☝️ he was right I could relate with loosing a husband loosing a child and loosing a sister Chris you are loved deeply but Selena belongs with her family at the end of your journey with her you moved on Selena’s family hasn’t the love and the lost of a child is just like yesterday god gives us opportunities to find love again you were fortunate to remarry have 2 children sad to say the Quintanilla family will never have that opportunity RIP SELENA ❤️
I wonder if Part 2 will go into more detail with the 4 times Yolanda tried to kill Selena before she actually did, I doubt it though but that’s a major plot point that was missing in the movie that had me confused the first time I watched it
Christian really /is/ beautiful. Even though she didn’t nail the performances she nailed Selena’s kind, bubbly and magnetic nature. You can’t help but love her. I also feel she did a good job at her speaking role.
I do understand the comparisons to Jennifer. Despite, Jlo being Puerto Rican she had similarities to Selena such as height and body type. They used make up and hair to take care of the rest. I’m rooting for part 2. We’re finally out that bad wig phase.
I hope when Selena and Chris elope in the series, it has the same romantic feeling Jennifer and Jon were able to capture. That is literally one of my favorite scenes. You could feel the freedom and Selena felt. The way they looked at each other like this was just the beginning for them.
