I hope Jimmy Broadbent see this and tries something similar. Also I'm glad this video blowing up for you, you should definitely do another one like it.
Yeah, I remember Jimmy Broadbent's GT3/4 streams from 5 years ago and they were awesome, so I'd definitely watch it if he'd do something like this as well. As for the next run, I will probably start streaming it in a week or two, to make sure I don't get bored/burnt out with regards to the game.
Honestly, I went into the GT World Championship with only the softest tires. I didn't care about the extra pit stops, I could run on practically qualification pace throughout the races. Yes, I used to fall behind after the first pit stop, but it was just for 1 or two seconds, thanks to the extra pace advantage in the first stint. And being the AI not very aggressive, overtakes are easily done. It's a very aggressive strategy worth trying.

I absolutely love this series I can't get enough. maybe a beat gt with only one manufacturer of car or with different stats like max top speed low acceleration or the opposite
I don't really care about GT, since I've had PS1 like 3-4 years after PS2 came out and played only GT1, but this is well made video and I wish you all the best.
Challenge runs definitely do make replays of these games more fun. A few months back I started a playthrough of Gran Turismo 2 using only cars from before 1990, and although I haven't quite finished it yet, it forced me to step outside my comfort zone and try cars I'd never given the light of day before. Maybe something similar would work in Gran Turismo 4?
I grew up on Gran Turismo. My next door neighbour was 8 years older than me and introduced me to Gran Turismo with GT3. My family's game system was a PS1 still, so I had GT2. When GT4 came out, I remember distinctly the first weekend my neighbour hosted a all weekend long sleepover party. I have a terrible memory of my childhood but I can remember that weekend nearly in its entirety. The next spring I was given a PS2 and a copy of GT4 by my father. And now nearly 20 years later I spend most of my time and money on cars :D ahahaha I should really fire up the ol PS2 and play some classic GT4 for the good ol days.
by adding more weight to the front you increased the inertia of the front, meaning that it was harder for tyres to make the front turn, which resulted in switching the balance of the car towards understeer. We can take Audis with longitunally mounted engines as an example, quattro all wheel drive design pushes the engine far to the very front of the car and those cars suffer from understeer. On the contrary, first Porsche 911s had the engine in the rear, and while the straight line grip of rear wheels was amazing, in corners those cars were notorious for their immediate and severe oversteer and overall lack of stability. Porsche solved the issue with adding 2 cast iron front bumper "reinforcements", 11kg each. Adding weight to the car to change its balance should be a last resort, but hey, if it's the only viable option that works, then why not. So for an almost 20yo game, GT4 simulated it really well.
Yeah, it truly was a last resort option here. I had tried many different things to balance out the car, including changes to the downforce and some rather absurd suspension modifications, but nothing seemed to stop the high-speed oversteer. Luckily, the ballast solved the problem almost instantly and made it significantly easier to drive on every track I raced at afterwards.
Well said. What impressed me was, even though ballast adjustment wasn't added until GT4, you could use ride height to adjust the car's inertia and center of gravity instead, as early as GT1. If you lifted the front height on a RWD, the car would get a smoother launch off the line due to more weight on the rear wheels. The only problem was, because the car's nose would be pointing up or down, the game would get confused and think that the car was going uphill or downhill. This meant that raising the rear height was almost always optimal in GT1 and GT2, because while the car would understeer more, the 'downhill' acceleration boost from the car pointing downwards was well worth it. They sort of fixed it in GT3 by always having the car appear flat in-race regardless of ride height settings, but because of how little traction tyres offer, raising the front height became the optimal choice for inducing oversteer and improving rear wheel traction. For FF's you only want to raise the front by 10-15mm relative to the rear, or else the loss of front-wheel traction becomes too extreme. Otherwise though, a 40-50mm gap makes a huge difference for improving turning and corner exit grip in almost all RWD's. GT3 also had a weird thing where applying a VCD controller on most 4WD's greatly increased their rear inertia, improving rear wheel traction when using a 90 / 10 torque split but decimating the car's acceleration on long straights. GT4 did end up fixing all of these things, but added issues of its own, like toe barely affecting the car and the rigidity increase doing the opposite of what it's supposed to. PS1 / PS2 GT tuning was broken in a lot of ways, but learning how to use it all to your advantage is really satisfying.
Thanks, I mostly listened to Drum & Bass during the racing. In fact, I had the entire Pendulum discography on during the final World Championship races! :D
Complete using only cars from before 1955. Start with the bettle, and you could complete the world championship using the 1937 Auto Union V16 Type C Streamline. I've done it. Straight up though - you'll need to use a wheel, which I can tell you're not here. Also - after giving this some thought, you can only start by transferring a modern bettle over memory card and doing the bettle cup to get the 1949 beetle. That would be the only allowed modern car.
The R390 road car without the wing already has more downforce than all the JGTC cars. It’s default setting is 40/55. The only reason why most of us missed this car is because it came with only 350 hp stock.
The main reason why I like Gran Turismo 4 through 6 is their original circuits, with 4 having my favourite ones like Hong Kong, Citta di Aria and the original variants of Trial Mountain and Deep Forest.
Fun fact: if you built a pair of wings onto a le mans car (and reduced its downforce massively) it could theoretically take off since it would go at speeds faster than an airplane taking off and it would be aerodynamic and light.
I actually think that the AI is just slow with the R390 as it has a pretty similar power-to-weight ratio and downforce level, so I’ll probably give it a try when I make something like a follow-up video. And yes, the Ford RS200 was a pretty wacky choice, although you could go for a Lexus too as it’s somehow an American brand, while Acura isn’t…
also lmao while the RS200 would be American because its ford, it pretty much is a totally British machine in that American championship. painted in red, looks like the British finally got their revenge.
Challenge Idea: Can you beat Need for Speed Most Wanted without using Nitro? Nitro is important in Need for Speed, as it gives you a massive burst of extra speed. But what would happen if you try to do without that useful upgrade? Honestly, this is a challenge that all Need for Speed games need, because it's surprisingly fascinating how much you rely on Nitro in Need for Speed. I remember one BM event in NFS Heat where you have to win the race without using Nitro.
That would be an interesting challenge indeed! Since you can also physically remove the feature by simply not installing it on your car, it would save some cash on upgrades too :)
I saw this video recommended to me multiple times and i just gave in now, i was fully expecting your channel to have more subs but goddamn this Production Quality, you got me hooked
Nice vid! At first I didn't even know whether to watch this just from the thumbnail alone, but oly when the video ended did I even notice that 35 minutes had gone by. While that may not sound well for my sense of time, it certainly does mean a lot for the retention on this video I guess. Good work!
11:00 I love the censor noise you used, lol. Also, I really like this. I'm not usually into speedrun-style or challenge videos, but this was a bit more casual while still being fun and informative!
Haha, I always try to keep my videos profanity-free (especially these kinds of videos). It's a challenge to balance the casual viewing experience while not being too generic, because at some moments it's also nice to go into some more details!
Top tip my dude if your using all white subtitles or titles in your edit give them a black border or stroke, this will make them readable 100% of the time or they can kind of blend into the background especially on videos
I had used the HPA R32 Golf to get my start. You can get it after your first car. You have to do a couple of races to upgrade your first car to win but you can do almost anything with it. I was expecting the CLK-GTR as your car.
GT4 is also my favorite in the series without a doubt and imo one of the best racing games of all time, but whenever someone says it has over 700 cars, I disagree. Most of the cars have multiple repeats. Like there’s more than 5 S2000’s in the game for example. If we’re talking unique cars the game probably has closer to 400, still amazing tho
I think you'll still be left with ~600 cars after deducting all "duplicates" (e.g. all R32s, S2000s, etc.). Either way, the high car count was still unprecedented at the time, especially considering how a lot of the cars feel pretty unique and can, for example, have a wing (the mounting of which can also vary wildly).
Amazing video I'm definitely looking forward to more! The quality is awesome man you deserve so many more subscribers and hopefully this blows up (I found this recommend on my home page so that's a good sign for sure). Glad to see you were able to complete the challenge and it looks like a ton of fun got me wanting to try it out myself soon. Also to completing the game with used cars I mean it is *technically* definitely possible but certainly not easily or quickly obtainable; it's possible to get an all black version of some of the LM cars from the used dealer but they only appear on week 100. I checked the wiki for the R390 Road car and it does not appear in the used dealer
The Used Car Only event is actually doable with a used road car too, provided you’re very lucky with your car roster for the GTWC (although you must skip the Sports Truck event, but I’d think that’s fair due to the restrictions that event has)
finishing the tournament as Pendulum's Streamline is about to end fantastic Great video, I love seeing that GT4 is having this sort of renaissance, haha.
Yeah, the Pendulum song finish was quite coincidental but incredibly satisfying. I actually think that the mediocre player reception of GT7, along with a general interest in early modern racing games, is causing these games to become much more interesting to both new and "older" players now.
i guess thanks FIA for forcing racing teams to race with a car that has at least x road going specimens since that is the rule that leads to literal race cars minus roll cage and a few HP being road legal
The only flaw the Peugeot 905 has is it's gearbox. The shifts are painfully slow, so on tracks with lot's of up and down shifts the car kinda flunks (like HK). It really was made for only racing at LeMans and it shows.
Very well done, great video. Now could you do the 24h of Le Mans/Nurburgring with the Nissan? (If you have enough sleep before the race I guess that you could do it maybe without pausing a single time - drink and eat during pit stops and some creative toilet you could p** in during the race XD)
Don’t worry, others have (rightfully) pointed this out as well. I’ll do a continuation of Road Car Only in the future where I’ll do it again with a “true” road car.

IMO it’s a bit of market fatigue too (Raycevick’s “I love racing games, they suck!” explains it all to well…)
@@mrxbas What is driving away people is the games as a service, micro transaction, always online. Games nowadays are made to be casinos disguised as games.
I miss the times when games were games, you bought a disc and you had lots of content you just unlocked by playing.
When Sony stopped being japanese we lost a lot in the gaming industry.
road legal car PLUS GT guy
a mix of dustinEden b-spec run and your road-legal challenge
idk sounds kinda fun in my opinion
I think that would require a lot of AI driver training (as you can actually "train" the B-spec driver), but that sounds like an interesting challenge for sure!
@@mrxbas could be fun seen gt guy strugle with the nissan r390 hhhhh
who knows ?
@@fishermanwastakin I think I'll probably do this as a small tangent on-stream as I'd have to train the driver first. If I don't, I think that the B-Spec driver will just helplessly flail around...
definitely earned a sub with this one, the concept, execution and production quality are of the charts! keep it up man, ben benieuwd wat er nog meer komt!
Thank you! Over een paar dagen zal de volgende video komen :D
Still got Gran Turismo 4 on the PS2, such an incredible game. It's the game that got me into loving cars, and racing. Thanks Gran Turismo 4.
It amazes me just how fantastic GT4 still looks
Watched the whole time with much interest. Honestly didn't see the length of the video before starting and was expecting an hour long, when you said you were at the final championship, I was like ''no way, already?'', hahaha. Great video man!
I immediately love this play through as my first car in GT4 was also a FC
The RX-7 FC is indeed a superb starter car! I could have probably done more championships with it, but I also wanted to use some other cars over time.
Thank you algorithm for giving me this wonderful video.
Actually, I should thank the algorithm for showing this video to you!
Go play GT!
This is some quality content right here, inspirational for me personally! The amount of work with the commentary alone is impressive, keep it up!
I am glad you've enjoyed it! The commentary is subject to numerous re-recordings and rewrites, so I'm happy it seemed to have paid off!
Those battles with the Peugeot was intense and nerve-racking.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video, and your production was great. Hopefully you'll make more of these types of videos. Cheers for the content
Great to hear, I’ll probably follow this one up with something already :D
I always found it insane how we went from the artifacts in the graphics of GT3 (my first time playing a racing game) to GT4. Then 5 came out on PS3/XB360 and I couldn’t put it down. Skipped school a few times when it came out, and I got it for Christmas the year it came out!
💙 I’m so glad I found this channel as well as Roflwaffle and DustinEden!!! GT has been an important part of my life since I was a baby. My father was a car enthusiast and GT was the first game I ever played!! I’ve played and owned every GT since!! Unfortunately my Father Orlando, took his own life in 2016, but playing GT and being a car enthusiast myself has always helped me feel closer to him 💙
I hope Jimmy Broadbent see this and tries something similar.
GT4 is such a gem of a game
That's why I'm still playing it :)
incredibly well made and fun to listen to while grinding laps on ride 4, quality video mate
Thank you!
GT4 nuzlocke. If the car loses a race, it's gone forever.
Good idea, I also haven’t seen many players do this before!
you win at the youtube algorithm. love the content
Thanks!
If it was played in third person it would be 10/10 video
Glad to see my childhood game come to my feed in 2023, one of tge reasons i keep coming back to old games. Also if you want you can use some mods like adaptive gas n brake to controll them with ur triggers so it cant be 100% or 0% , gt3 chase cam etc
I’m actually using both mods in my latest playthrough! The triggers mod in particular is incredibly helpful with more powerful cars.
@@mrxbas thats tough man, they do really make a diff, though idk, the triggers still have a dead space till they activate, really excited for a remaking of the sounds in the game, truly one of the only things lacking from the game
Bro is playing gran turismo 4 in 2023 (love this, thanks❤)
As a french guy, i love the fact that your pronunciation of peugeot is spot-on, not pewgeot, peugeot.
I have literally never played grand turismo in my life nor shown any interest in the series before
But this video had me intrigued and enticed the whole way through.
Very enjoyable
I absolutely love this series I can't get enough. maybe a beat gt with only one manufacturer of car or with different stats like max top speed low acceleration or the opposite
There’ll be more, that’s for sure :)
@@mrxbas I can't wait!
exquisite racing music choice i have to say
good challenge for GT4. Definitely a worthy try in GT6
Oh, this is a great vid. Great racing all around! 27:40 good slide
Thanks! The car was nearly undrivable at 27:40, so I tried to rely on the downforce, which almost backfired badly as you may have seen…
I don't really care about GT, since I've had PS1 like 3-4 years after PS2 came out and played only GT1, but this is well made video and I wish you all the best.
The Group B challenge. Your choice of game but with each car requiring 200 production units. No LM specials.
I think it will work well in GT4 thanks to the large amount of pre-1990 cars in the game (especially Japanese ones like the R32 and old Silvias).
My man's old here listening to Pendulum. Amazing taste in music, I like you already.
Yep, the band has really shaped my music taste.
You my dude have quite the taste in music, and skill in driving. Keep up the good content!
Thanks, I mostly listened to Drum & Bass during the racing. In fact, I had the entire Pendulum discography on during the final World Championship races! :D
Please continue with this type of content! That was incredibly fun to watch!
I love turning Road-Legal Cars into Race Cars, and this challenge is just wonderful!
I'd say so too, but in a way it's also strange considering how there are many Japanese cars in GT4 that can easily reach over 600 horsepower.
Man i wish we had some of these custom *fake* courses in gt7. So much nostalgia. Some were so fun. Throw in some gt3 ones too
The main reason why I like Gran Turismo 4 through 6 is their original circuits, with 4 having my favourite ones like Hong Kong, Citta di Aria and the original variants of Trial Mountain and Deep Forest.
Fun fact: if you built a pair of wings onto a le mans car (and reduced its downforce massively) it could theoretically take off since it would go at speeds faster than an airplane taking off and it would be aerodynamic and light.
What's crazy is how well Gran Turismo 4 holds up graphically for a late PS2 game.
Yeah, especially with a deinterlacer and HD HUD pack applied (will be visible in the next video)!
Very glad this got picked up by the algorithm to show me!
I’m glad you liked it as well :)
Winning a race to Channel 43 is baller
R390 LeMans Race Car: "w-who are you???"
R390 Road legal Homologation Special: "I am you but stronger"
I actually think that the AI is just slow with the R390 as it has a pretty similar power-to-weight ratio and downforce level, so I’ll probably give it a try when I make something like a follow-up video.
And yes, the Ford RS200 was a pretty wacky choice, although you could go for a Lexus too as it’s somehow an American brand, while Acura isn’t…
also lmao while the RS200 would be American because its ford, it pretty much is a totally British machine in that American championship. painted in red, looks like the British finally got their revenge.
@@mrxbas it is nonetheless hilarious of course
I thought the sections with live commentary were slightly sped up, due to how quickly you talk! Game got ya pumped :P
I dont know what a car is but this video was extremely entertaining! would love some more challenge runs

Deserved too, love to see it
Nice vid! At first I didn't even know whether to watch this just from the thumbnail alone, but oly when the video ended did I even notice that 35 minutes had gone by. While that may not sound well for my sense of time, it certainly does mean a lot for the retention on this video I guess.
Good work!
Haha, at least I'm glad you've enjoyed it!
I thought this guy would have more than 700 subs production quality is so good
Would be nice for sure, I’m glad it’s as good as I expected it to be!
One of the first games I got as a kid. Genuinely could not complete the first license class. Never played it further than that.
Dude make more of these kinds of videos on Gran Turismo. Loved this.
I remember 'beating' the toughest race in GT1 with a fully tuned DC2 TypeR... 1st place except High Speed Ring(4th place everytime).
Cool idea as well, I guess High Speed Ring was impossible due to a lack of power.
I love to see the r390 do this! A couple of years ago I set a handful of class records on fh4 with a r390. One of the coolest road cars ever!
I just want to say, the championship race finish jingles are the best in the game, especially when you finish the final race
Challenge ideas:
Only one make of cars is allowed, Win GTWC.
Only one type of tires is allowed, Win GTWC.
No NoS., Win GTWC.
One make is particularly interesting as it had a wide variety and is pretty doable. I’ll also try to refrain from using NOS in future playthroughs.
Heavy ballast at the front of the car to stop dangerous oversteer? Ah the 911Turbo solution....
the tire gambling at 24:00 was intense
The Used Car Only event is actually doable with a used road car too, provided you’re very lucky with your car roster for the GTWC (although you must skip the Sports Truck event, but I’d think that’s fair due to the restrictions that event has)
If you used racing slick tires, then the car wasn't road legal
hearing the Forza Horizon 1 ost with GT4 in the background at the end off the all american section threw me for a second 💀
Haha, that’s probably pure coincidence since I had a random song playlist up at that time. I can see it being quite strange though!
keep up the great work! you've got lots of potential!
Thank you!
finishing the tournament as Pendulum's Streamline is about to end
fantastic
Great video, I love seeing that GT4 is having this sort of renaissance, haha.
Yeah, the Pendulum song finish was quite coincidental but incredibly satisfying. I actually think that the mediocre player reception of GT7, along with a general interest in early modern racing games, is causing these games to become much more interesting to both new and "older" players now.
1:50 i started my first gt4 playthrough as 7yrs child with that rx7 too😂
i guess thanks FIA for forcing racing teams to race with a car that has at least x road going specimens
since that is the rule that leads to literal race cars minus roll cage and a few HP being road legal
You only have 2,1k subs?! Just by the first 5 or so minutes I thought you had like 7-8k. You have so much potential, keep it up!
Thank you for the kind words!
Video popped up in my recommended, i had a feeling the name looked familiar! Took me on a trip down memory lane, Viva la revolución!
Much love, Xbas ❤
Thanks, we're indeed witnessing a retro racing game renaissance at the moment!
@@mrxbas Indeed, but i wasn't referencing that! An even bigger throwback to the CoR5 community we helped create ;)
@@TzarJek Oh yeah, I remember that time indeed! That was way too long ago for me to immediately recall...
Would be a good idea for a stream if I have a free weekend! (maybe even with some friends)
I love how it let you do the American championship in a British Ford...
I don't want to be that guy, but R390 is one-off concept car locked in museum since it was created
Don’t worry, others have (rightfully) pointed this out as well. I’ll do a continuation of Road Car Only in the future where I’ll do it again with a “true” road car.
