The reason dodging feels weird is... because it is. The dodge while in Broccoli form has the I-Frames kick in and end slightly sooner than regular form, which leaves the end of the dodge technically having a higher recovery animation, while also taking a few frames longer to complete from beginning to end. Broccoli form is cool, but it seems like the devs didn't QUITE tune it properly.
Also, the Ocsplosion L2 attacks, deals a set amount of damage based on the weapon level. the %damage increases don't actually increase the damage at all. However, flat damage up increases DO increase the damage. So if you want to make an L2 build you need flat damage gems, not %damage gems.
Because it sucks. The end
@@Blittsplitt5 I wasn't saying one way or the other. I was just stating a fact about why the dodging felt off.
The dodging has hyperarmor as well.
It's not that they didn't tune it properly. It's that it's and end game gimmick. It's tuned properly. It's just not tuned to some peoples liking.

I wonder if maybe the early bosses arcane resistance was a design choice for people playing in NG+. Since most arcane builds don't (normally) come together until the late game, it means that a person who wants to do an arcane run might be more inclined to go to NG+, so they give the early bosses some extra arcane resistance to make sure they didn't just get steam rolled.
I could be completely off base here, just a thought that came to mind. Great video, Mr. Leeds.
It likely is exactly for that reason, otherwise they wouldn't have altered it for NG+ where it is available.
I think it's also lore reasons since the bosses that are wel to it are horrors where as the early game are mostly beasts
It is deliberate yes. From devs tend to do Gameplay and Story Integration like that.
Arcane stats is the equivalent of Intelligence in Bloodborne, as such, it does more damage against other being with affinity to arcane, like Kins & Great Ones. Therefore Beasts, being driven by instinct, naturally has big resistance against it.
Beast-possessed Soul, Abhorrent Beast, Bloodletting Beast are the only ones with weak ARC resistance, but there's some sort of justification to it. The first one can do fire magic; Abhorrent can talk (and in general retain sapience); Bloodletting controlled by parasite with head that lliterally looks like brain lined with (bug) eyes, constant theme in the game.
the best way to do an arcane build early is to get the fire gem at the bottom of the cathedral ward, and then go to the chalice dungeons, hope fore at least one good drop, and then get a radial fire from the big doggo. boom, you’ve got a good fire build going early on. can be used with any of the starting area weapons, but i like the saw spear since it also has the serrated bonus, and both that and fire are good for beasts, which you fight mostly early on. by the time you get to the nightmare frontier, you can then get some lightning gems for a backup weapon (put those on a church weapon for that bonus and you’ve now covered all your bases about halfway through, assuming you’re doing chalices, tho i save the latter half for ng+ anyhoo🤷♂️)
but yeah. elemental arcane is probably my favorite build. got putting that sicker together on lock down😂
i also consider lore to this because lets remember, beasts and insight DO NOT MIX AT ALL. the madness is from int but the beast is driven only by instinct and thus lacks all inelegance.
Everytime he mentions playing while his son does sth that needs to be adressed quickly, I feel the dad kinship with this man
people do not realize the feats gaming parents are capable of. changed my daughter's diaper quite a few times while lying in a stairwell somewhere in DMZ
You should do a beast claws+beast embrace Caryll rune run, it'll be cool to see how the transformations and their respective weapons hold up against eachother
i second this because it also happens to be quite a HELLA fast weapon and the dodge of it is well. also something
I've played with it and it's pretty good way better than the kos parasite and you don't need to buy any beast blood and it's pretty fast
The beast claws and beast rune is my favorite playstyle. They are just so good and fun.
I did a max NG+ run with these, they are alot of fun, makes you play smart with hit and run tactics
@@stens.8394 that sounds like a nightmare. Literaly everything would one or two shot you because of the beasthood defense debuff AND max ng+ makes everything have more health and absurd damage. Won't catch me touching that run with a 10 ft pole

Parasites aren't supposed to be beneficial, especially when it turns you into a squid.
just fyi the backstep spooge attack benefits a TON from being free aimed, it's actually a fairly medium ranged projectile if you angle the camera up. also it becomes a multi-shot when the weapon is transformed
I gave your mom a free aimed backstep spooge attack
One reborn is either total cakewalk, or the get one shot festival, no in between
i love the kos parasite but its weird cos the sentiment of "its good when gemmed properly" is a common defence of it but...so is every weapon, like every weapon is good when gemmed properly thats kind of a given
It’s up there with “Skill Issue” and “Git Gud” as defences, yes it is possible to use anything to beat the game, but it doesn’t actually mean anything
The main difference with parasite is that it NEEDS to be gemmed properly to be good. It has insane damage output with good range and versatility. You've just gotta be willing to put in the farming time.
"It's good in minmaxed pvp" is an elaborate way of saying "it's useless for 99% of the game".
And if you spend the time to farm the right gems to make Kos parasite good, you're chokeslamming everything in the game because you're overlevelled anyways.
You wanna know some stuff that's great even if you build your character and weapon in the dark? Hunter Axe. Beast Saif. Ludwig's. A pocket full of molotovs and throwing knives.
@@aprinnyonbreak1290 you act like it's difficult to farm for gems without leveling up
@@MinervaNeuhart
Technically, you are correct. Nothing says you have to spend your souls on levels.
However. It's also absolutely asinine to go out and grind for the purpose of getting stronger, but not level when you have the souls to, except being weird and arbitrary about this one weapon at the deliberate expense and exclusion of others... or minmaxing for PvP. So again. Useless for single player, because for it to matter in single player, you have to be playing in a way that means you've already beaten the game more or less and are doing weird challenge builds, in which case cool, you do you, but what's done in those isn't indicative of an average playthrough.
god I love the dodge animations. They truly look like the character is possessed by a parasite.
Fun fact: I went through the game using nothing but bare fists and hunters tools until I could beat orphan for a micolash cosplay. Using the parasite without the milkweed rune just adds it's damage to your bare fist moveset, making it ideal for the funny run man build
The benefit of arcane scaling is that the soft cap doesn't hit nearly as hard when reaching 50 stat points (especially for hunter tools), unlike all the other stats which has a much harsher drop-off in damage from any stat investment beyond 50. This makes arcane builds very strong at very high levels. The flipside is that it's pretty bad at low levels, also because (most) arcane gems and (most) arcane tools can't be found until lategame.
P.S. I just remembered that a common use for the kos parasite was to have a pure glass cannon arcane build with high/max arcane and strong arcane gems, then invade someone (or get invaded) and use the Messenger's Gift (transform into a message on the ground) at a chokepoint, and once the enemy player comes close, you use the L2 AoE attack to one-shot them.
The high arcane of early game enemies is thought to be a lore thing, beast type enemies (you mostly fight beasts rather than old ones early on) in particular have high defense, arcane being damage of the old ones, it's implying beautification is an evolution style thing that came about to fend off old one fuckwithery.
Kin enemies are also weak to lightning, suggesting darkbeasts evolved to piss off kin.
I wonder why Ludwig has more arcane resistance in his second phase then. It's an inconsistent choice
And for mechanic reasons, if they didn't have high arcane resistances, moltovs would be busted early game
@@gregoryporter-gaming2559 No that makes more sense because again beast = acrane resist so when he becomes more of a beast he should have more arcane resist (I realize I may have written this thinking about the wrong boss)
@gregoryporter-gaming2559 My idea was that the Moonlight Greatsword is actively protecting him. As a beast, the second head with the white vomit kinda implies that he's some ungodly mish mash of someone becoming a great one and a beast. Granted, I got that idea from the unused Great One Beast.

Broccoli is a funnier word to say, but I do agree
Numbing mist invalidates the run, and my favorite pizza topping is psilocybin mushrooms, nothing like dominos and ego death.
I'd say the Kos parasite is probably my favorite weapon just because how unique it is, but it isn't a great bosskiller. The move set is great for dealing with normal enemies as it has a lot of stagger, reach, hyper armor and doesn't bounce of walls. It is very good for dealing with some of the more human sized bosses in the chalice dungeons, like the Pthumerians and the watchers. Also good against NPC hunters.
The thing about arcane builds in Bloodborne is that you want to use a varied toolkit more so than other builds, and the parasite is just one of those tools, not *the* tool. It isn't really a defense of the weapon itself, but just the reality of how the game is designed. You want to be able to switch elements depending on what you're fighting.
A pure physical build will generally do OK against most things, while an arcane build can do great granted you're willing to switch up what element you're using.

Now that that's out of the way, I'm counting that single point the same as JRose using the Badge Boost Glitch in any of his solo runs of Red and Blue. As of now, it's unavoidable. If you can't outpace her healing, use what you have to.
If you do a future challenge run, then here's a tip for the shark giants (yes, even the anchor variant). They can be parried. I did it by complete accident once cause I panicked after dodging early. I tried it again after realizing what I did to confirm if I saw that correctly. Hopefully this helps. Great video as always!
Your son is giving you an extra challenge on the Cleric fight. I Love that 😂
Just went back to Bloodborne to remake a Maria character I lost, and the game has held up so well. Much easier than ER sure, but it's actually fun to run through and beat all the bosses and DLC (besides the well with the Rakuyo).
Honestly the Kos Parasite is my favorite weapon. I usually just run past everything and grab tonitrus while leveling my arcane stat, then speed run myself to beat Orphan before I do anything else, then I go through the game as usual lol
Is it really "as usual" when you kill orphan before 85% of the bosses?

edit: you really do need to go into the chalice dungeons for this weapon to work. also, once you have the weapon the messenger baths there sell the other versions, which means you can get a Triangle Gem Parasite if you don’t want to spend too much time farming.
there’s a reason this is supposed to be a ng+ weapon. arcane scaling gems seem to be the best.
edit 2: you would have been better off with the “uncanny” version of the weapon. the gem slots go Radial > Triangle > Radial, instead of shoving that crescent one at the end.
I loved this weapon and it's probably my personal favorite but yeah, it really needs a specific build, playstyle, and blood gems before it is good let alone fun lol.
The 1 point of damage does NOT invalidate the run, since it enabled you to actually bring us this fun content.
My favourite Pizza topping is, technically, the sauce- I use my Grans Bolognaise recipe so it's Tomato and Mince.
Also, "Horson Welles" sent my sides into Orbit
Everything is great when you gem them up properly.
Some are more forgiving than others though.
Having done a pure Arcane playthrough a few times I can confidently say that they're not really given the Blood Gems to succeed outside of Chalice Dungeons. By that I mean Physical weapons are generally given a streadily increasing quality of Gem throughout the game, with low quality ones early and high quality late. Arcane damage types get a few throughout the game and that's it, with a few farmable ones here and there, but with no Radials available to farm and just the one Droplet you're pretty strapped for options.
Within the main game your best bet for gems applicable to the Kos Parasite would be the Arcane Droplet, the Odd Radial one in Fishing Hamlet and a Nourishing Gem from a Gargoyle in Cainhurst. Options are that limited. I wouldn't say that Arcane weapons are inherently more reliant on Blood Gems than Physical weapons, and more that your options are just so much more limited without utilizing Chalice Dungeons.
Edt: Theoretically you could farm the Celestial Emissary enemies in Forbidden Woods for some alright Triangles and hope for Out of Shape drops but that's so astronomically rare you couldn't rely on them.
See, I absolutely love this weapon, but I used it pretty much exclusively on basic enemies. Bosses got to eat hunter tools, because the scaling on those is ridiculous. It doesn’t help that arcane builds are VERY feast-or-famine depending on damage type, enemies can be either super weak or completely immune to them. I had a lot of fun feeling out specific weaknesses for each boss, but then I’m one of those weirdos who finds no real fun in unga-bungaing their enemies with large sticks.
Honestly, my favorite thing to do with the Kos parasite was equip it WITHOUT becoming an angry tree. Sure, the damage is worse and the move set is basic, but I don’t really *need* a super powerful weapon if my primary “boss killing” strategy involves the “suddenly tentacle” and the “spooky scary skulls.” The aesthetic of the empty-handed sorcerer is worth it I feel.

24:42 Awww, definitely a Fire Keeper, good for you brother!
Why does the souls community get so sore when people have any opinion other than their own? I’ve never come across a community that is so toxic and supportive in equal measure.
It’s truly fascinating
my guess would be that soulsborne games have been lauded as "crazy difficult, no hand-holding, not for little whiny baby gamers" games for so long, and that attracts two kinds of people: those who embrace the challenge for the challenge's sake and want to build others up to share the experience, and those who see the challenge as a status symbol and want to invalidate others because they beat a game so they "know better".
These games attract people with nothing going on in their lives
Git Good Casual fool's
The fact that you feel that a community has to embrace your ideas just because you had them , shows me that people like you who think you don't belong is because you are going into this as a victim ... A victim who can't complete the game bc you won't put in the effort and therefore will never understand why this community exists.. and if you can't understand us you will never be one of us. And who are you that we should care anymore about you than someone else. Get over yourself and realize that you are either part of something bigger or you haven't found your niche . Yep, Gods fear God. Like dragons in Pokemon.
The real culprit is that the explosion is basically guaranteed to hit the head, which takes extra damage. You get similar results just from using weapons with an overhead hitbox.
yes by design and logic, i like to see knowing insight as a balanced calapse waiting to happen, your a perfictly balanced scail on the top of a moutian on a calm day, insight tips it one way, often to retain sanity you have to keep your instincts around to avoid this fall, but gain to much to quick/relay on it to much and you are suddenly are frail to it. just the same as a beast fighting a beast is but a blood bath. your fall REALLY starts once you fight amelia she has enough insight to JUST keep her urges at bay but it did not last.

The gate skip to get to forbidden woods early is good, but I think it's much easier to do it in the staircase up by iosefkas door. You clip out the side of the wall and out of bounds, and fall down near where the brainsucker is.
My first ever contact with the broccoli man was when I got invaded by a player using it. We did the moon pose for a solid two minutes and then we both decided to start our 1vs1, I had no prior knowledge of the broccoli's existence so I had to take it as a mini boss fight, making some space between it and myself to have time to learn his attacks and such, it was one of the most memorable moments of my first playthrough. That player even left me with a single hit left and started posing again so I could health and start over, very cool fella lol.

On the walk to the Mensis Brain (in the area with all the Winter Lanterns) there’s a droplet gem that does a flat 18% damage boost.
1) they gave the first bosses arcane resistance likely because they just needed to buff them up somehow to even out their weaknesses without impacting the fights too much, which is why they chose a stat most don’t rely on early game
2) I was kinda excited to use the kos parasite cuz orphan is my favorite bb boss but uuh, maybe not seeing that damage
The reason quickstepping probably feels so off in Lumenwood form is because normally, your character stays upright and leans a little in the direction you dodge, making your hitbox stay relatively thin. As a Lumenwood, your upper torso drags behind you, making your hitbox about twice as wide and therefore requiring tighter dodge timing to successfully i-frame through attacks.
Hearing the Balamb Garden OST from FFVIII while watching a squid slap monsters in Bloodborne was definitely not how I thought this was gunna start
Ah yes, it only took until what is potentially the final boss of the game (if you go for the shortest ending) for a single boss to be weak to arcane damage, as opposed to nearly every one of them prior being resistant...
A really fun weapon when you play with it in NG+ with all the messed up Blood Gems you farmed. My best in slot for this weapon is a Cursed Gem that decreases attack but then Increases Arcane Damage so much it surpasses anything else I have on any other weapon.

I think the Arcane resistance on early bosses is something to effect new game + difficulty, they just applied it at all times because as you said early game 99% of people won’t be utilizing arcane until later so it won’t be an issue for new players
Broooo that Ludwig figurine i've seen the 3d prints file on and been wanting to get it, it's looks so good!
I've became addicted to bloodborne again in the last two weeks, its outwrite in my top five games
12:30 The Milkweed and Beast's Embrace runes change your dodges. Milkweed gives you more lag after the dodge, making them slower, but gives you some hyper armor during them. Breast's Embrace makes your dodges even more laggy but gives them way more distance, but they don't have hyper armor.
A normal quickstep to the side is 20 frames long, giving you 11 frames of invincibility and 9 frames of vulnerability (lag). Milkweed side quickstep is 23 frames long, gives you 11 frames of invincibility, 12 frames of vulnerability, and 13 frames of hyper armor during that vulnerability (lasting 1 frame after the lag for some reason). Beast's Embrace side quickstep is 24 frames long, gives you 11 frames of invincibility, and 13 frames of vulnerability.
I'd also like to add that the Milkweed roll is terrible, having 29 total frames with the same 11 s making it roughly comparable to a DS3 fatroll.
Correct
Not even joking I actually do like cauliflower and broccoli. Not so much the Kos parasite though. What you said about it in its defense (late game grab so you've got the gems it needs already, maybe) could also be said of the Rakuyo, which also performs fine without top tier gems and doesn't lock you into a damage type... so yeah I agree it's just not that great. And it also takes up a rune slot, damning it further in my mind. But hey props to the people who get good results with it. Anyway fun video, hope your holidays are going well!
I think one of the main reasons you get this weapon at the end of the game, is so you will likely be toward the chalice dungeons that can get you gems that work well for it. and buy the other version that has a triangle slot.
I use this weapon on my arcane build, think flat arcane gems are one of the better ones for it. It shreds enemies with low arcane resistance but yeah any boss that has high arcane resistance , it is just bashing your head against a brick wall
last I remembered kos parasite doesn't get good damage till 50+ arcane
Yharnam wasn't ready for broccoli man. I loved doing PVP with this back in the day just for how goofy it was.
Micolash only uses A Call Beyond in second phase if the player is outside of melee range.
It's kinda bizarre what enemies are and aren't resistant to Arcane in Bloodborne, like, it feels almost random sometimes.
The only consistency is that the big "beast" bosses are pretty resistant to it, like Vicar Amelia and the Bloodstarved Beast, but even then, Laurence is more resistant to it in his hunter phase than in his "beast" phase.
The "Kin" bosses are usually pretty weak to it, bizarrely enough, and even great ones themselves like Amygdala and Moon Presence are very weak to it... except then the Orphan is highly resistant to it??
It's already confusing why the great ones and those tied to them would be weak to it given the obvious ties Arcane would have to their power, then the inconsistency just exacerbates that.
maybe the direct connection kos has is what gives it resiliance? the rest only know and old moon presence i suspect was weakened by you not feeding it your insight.
