Joey I have to be honest you are the person that helped me make the decision to go vegan just over a year ago. One thing you have always maintained is that being vegan is a moral and not a political stance. By joining an sub division of extinction rebellion is completely contradictory to that. Obviously I'm not going to drop my morals however if it was now I was looking into why go vegan you would be unable to convince me as this is political. I just feel your letting your activison down by making it about politics.

The destruction of the earth is inevitable, wether or not we consume meat, there's far too many humans to live sustainably, or at least with what we would consider simple comforts: electricity, gas, clothes, clean water, housing etc. The only way we'll survive is cutting down on many of these things, and I doubt anyone, even vegans are willing to go through that, when you live in a western society that's driven by all these things and take advantage of these comforts you can't really sit there and act you give a shit without looking like a hypocrite. Unless you live completely self sufficient and don't make use of the systems benefits, you're just as much a problem for the earth as anyone or anything else.
I agree with about 99% of what vegans say, except completly cutting out meat, we should eat far far less than we do, and source it diffrently, but completely cutting out won't achieve much in the grand scheme of things, the main focus should be our decatant lifestyles of constantly buying worthless shit and using more than we need, which I think almost everyone is a victim of, also the fact that people are so unhappy with their lives nowadays we can't be bothered to change, but anyway It's near impossible to come to a conclusion when there's so muxh that needs to change, thanks for not straight up insulting me by the way, good to see people can still have civil debates.
All this things you've listed we already have the technology/solution for. If humanity went vegan, we would only use a fraction of the land we currently use to sustain us (most of it is used to feed cattle, hence the desertification in the Amazon and others).
And yes, everyone is a hypocrite, it's a matter of extent though. I'm far less of one since going vegan. However, people are born into this world, and the systems we use to run society. People can't effect it meaningfully until they become an adult. And even then, they have history, conventions and institutions to overcome, which is where we're at now.
I'm similar to you in the sense that I don't think anything will change, at least in time. However, that doesn't mean we shouldn't try.

@Fwin You're not looking at the root. There's no need to "cut down" on anything. What needs to be changed is the way energy and fuel are generated, the way water is recycled. Gas, electric, coal, radiation, all ridiculous ways of getting energy that poison the planet and make the people poor. The ancient Egyptians were more evolved than modern-day man with their pyramids constructed over aquifers and magnetic fields to generate FREE ENERGY. The sun would be a source if solar energy wasn't being deliberately sabotaged. etc etc etc.
As for the exploitation and slaughter of animals, calling for "far less" of it is the equivalent of suggesting that we molest children, rape women and use slaves "far less." Animal use and abuse was never necessary and it needs to be completely stopped, period.

Yes, then other industries. But animal farming, the land needed to grow their food, the pollution created, and other affects are also a big contributor. It is something that we can easily do as individuals to make a difference.
