    I clicked just out of curiosity and remained glued as it was so engagingly presented. I didn't realise I was interested in this topic, but I am now! The top-down pain regulation idea was something I'd never come across and found fascinating (and with hindsight, of obvious value from an evolutionary perspective).

      I noticed when she said that but I assumed she just made a mistake. That's easy to do when you're lecturing. Were you really confused about it or did you just want to nitpick?

      @@katiekat4457 I think I saw some nervous tics recently after the slip, she definitely figured it out but wanted to maintain a proper conversational pace and not jump back to something and confuse the viewer, plus it was something that people won't consider paramount, it was a very easy mistake to make too

    I love the fact that the sound is good. That is a great step forward. The next thing to do is to use the input of the camera for the microphone. That way the visual delay is matched with the compression / storage and playback of the video.

    The philosopher Patricia Churchland also refers to the genetic roll in the moral and other behaviours of prairie and montaine voles. Neurotransmitters are not the source of the information they transmit and receive. We all exist in the spectrum of our culture’s emotional depression unless you exist within the spectrums of depressive realism or, autism. Your thought process is dominated by the selfish emotions of your ego. The last thing it wants you to think of is how and why the ration and meaning of our emotions function within our thought process. The key to free your thought process from, not the influence but, the dominance of our ego’s selfish emotions, is to think about the ration and meaning of empathy. You will be thinking from and with the source of selflessness, mindfulness, biologic objectivity, compassion and love etc etc. With empathy, Pete. I enjoyed the subject and your presentation of it very much,thanks.

      @@voraciousfred unfortunately they actually work quite well, at least where my mental health is concerned, without them I hear voices really badly and very aggressive, but with the medication they're tolerable to the point that I can ignore them for the most part, so yeah, they I definitely do need them sadly 🙃

      @jamesdozier3722 3 года назад +2

      Unfortunately, I think you are correct with your statement. The speaker did touch on the need to make drugs that target more specifically the receptors causing mental health problems. Until then, we are forced to deal with the side effects. As I’m sure are aware different antipsychotic have different profiles from person to person. Hang in there, my friend. With mental disorders they can be managed but there is a genetic cause so gene editing tools like CRISPR would be a cure.

    • @DoctaOsiris
      @DoctaOsiris 3 года назад

      @@higreentj Hmmm... I'm not quite sure that would quite do it, mental health issues affect the brain for the most part, that's why the majority of mental illnesses are diagnosed using brain scanning techniques and the last I heard CRISPR isn't capable of restructuring the human brain, if it were a possible solution I'd be more than willing to volunteer myself to the research but unfortunately CRISPR is gene editing, not brain pathway editing 🙃

    Those who have fewer vasopressin receptors are less monogamous, but wasn’t it that there were actually multiple copies of a gene responsible for vasopressin receptors which made species more prone to be polygamous, that is, those with 0 copies of that gene are less likely to cheat and are more monogamous whereas those with 1 or more copies reported more marriage problems and polygamous tendencies?

    21:14 Maybe different temperaments are needed for the proper functioning of society, and we happen to have discovered one way that a range of possibilities is manifest in reality.
    In a society, it's necessary for some people to be hyper-alert to threats. But it would not do to have the vast majority operating in that state.
    Some people like more salt. Their sweet spot is different. Not every human difference is a clinical condition.

      I really don't mean to sound nasty, I truly don't, but praying isn't going to help her, however going to a doctor who knows what they're doing will, it's at times like this that we need to look at reality, not fantasy, to help our loved ones.
